Microsoft Corp. tumbled 3.9%, its worst decline in more than a month. Chipmaker Nvidia Corp. sank 5.2%,extending losses sustained over the past five sessions to 20%. The stock hasn’t had a five-day run this bad since March 2020.</p><p>“There’s so much pessimism,” said Kim Forrest, chief investment officer and founder of Bokeh Capital Partners. “The war in Ukraine, higher interest rates, recession fears, China’s Covid lockdowns and then oil prices -- it’s all very gloomy.”</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e7485031c7059c7de042466c120adc76\" tg-width=\"930\" tg-height=\"523\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Those macro-economic risks are causing even some of the most outspoken bulls to grow more cautious. JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co.’s Marko Kolanovic advised clients to take some profits, citing risks from geopolitics and Fed tightening, just a month after he advised adding to stock holdings.</p><p>Kolanovic may be onto something, however, as the latest bout of selling comes after a three-week rally that sent the Nasdaq soaring 16% from a March 14 low as investors snapped up growth stocks amid optimism that they would be well-positioned to outperform as economic growth slows. Now, that optimism has been replaced by fear that an aggressive Fed bent on fighting inflation at all costs will send the economy into recession.</p><p><b>Tough Risk Environment</b></p><p>Fed Governor Christopher Waller acknowledged those risks on Monday, saying that interest rate hikes are a “brute-force tool” that can cause “collateral damage.”</p><p>The Fed raised its key rate by a quarter point last month and signaled it expects to lift it to 1.9% by the end of 2022 as the central bank seeks to bring inflation under control. Officials have said they’re open to moving faster if needed, including by hiking a half point at the central bank’s May 3-4 meeting. Falcon oversees about 1 trillion events daily and relies on artificial intelligence (AI) to keep end users safe. Shares of PubMatic are down more than 30% since November and almost 65% since hitting an all-time high in March 2021.</p><p>PubMatic&#39;s sustainable growth driver is the steady shift of advertising dollars from print to various digital formats. What PubMatic&#39;s cloud-based infrastructure does is oversee the sale of digital advertising space for its clients (i.e., publishers). Interestingly, this doesn&#39;t always mean placing the highest-priced ad in a display space. Rather, PubMatic&#39;s machine-learning algorithms will aim to place relevant ads in front of users. This keeps advertisers happy and can ultimately boost the long-term ad-pricing power for PubMatic&#39;s clients over the long run.</p><p>Although global digital ad spend is expected to increase by a little over 10% on an annual basis through 2024, PubMatic has been growing considerably faster.  Last year, the company&#39;s organic growth rate was 49% and was driven by mobile, video, and connected TV (CTV) programmatic ads. In fact, CTV ad revenue grew more than sixfold in the fourth quarter from the prior-year period.</p><p>With PubMatic profitable on a recurring basis and forecast to grow sales by close to 25% in 2022 and 2023, it makes for the perfect stock to buy following a big dip in the Nasdaq.</p><h2><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PYPL\">PayPal</a> Holdings</h2><p>A third beaten-down growth stock that&#39;s begging to be bought on this decline is fintech giant <b>PayPal Holdings</b>. PayPal&#39;s stock has fallen 62% since July 2021.</p><p>As with CrowdStrike and PubMatic, PayPal has a no-brainer growth opportunity on its doorstep. In this instance, I&#39;m talking about digital payments. Even with competition in the digital payments space heating up, PayPal recorded $1.25 trillion in total payment volume (TPV) in 2021 and expects TPV will climb to or beyond $1.5 trillion in 2022.</p><p>What&#39;s arguably the most impressive aspect of PayPal is the growing number of payments from existing users. In 2020, there were fewer than 41 transactions per active account. Last year, this figure surpassed 45 per active account (over 19 billion transactions spanning 426 million active users).  These figures show how quickly the payments landscape is going digital.</p><p>PayPal&#39;s abundant cash flow has also allowed the company to roll out new products and services. The company began allowing users to buy, hold, and sell cryptocurrencies in 2020, and is tinkering with launching a U.S. stock trading platform. It used its mountain of cash to acquire buy now, pay later solutions company Paidy last September, too.</p><p>At just a hair over 20 times Wall Street&#39;s forward-year earnings forecast, PayPal is arguably the cheapest it&#39;s ever been as a public company.</p><h2>Upstart Holdings</h2><p>The fourth and final beaten-down growth stock you&#39;ll regret not buying on the dip is cloud-based lending platform <b>Upstart Holdings</b>. Shares of the company have lost three-quarters of their value since October and are down close to 55% since the Nasdaq Composite hit its all-time high.</p><p>Upstart&#39;s claim to fame is the company&#39;s AI-driven lending platform. The traditional loan-vetting process can take quite a bit of time and be costly for both lending institutions and the party looking for a loan. Upstart&#39;s AI-powered platform can give on-the-spot answers (approval or denial) to roughly two-thirds of personal loan applicants. Furthermore, because the platform relies on machine learning, people who might not otherwise qualify for a loan under the traditional vetting process are sometimes approved using Upstart&#39;s process. In other words, it&#39;s democratizing access to financial services without putting lending institutions at a higher risk of loan delinquencies.</p><p>Something else investors should take note of is that 94% of fourth-quarter revenue came from fees and services tied to the lending institutions it caters to. In short, there&#39;s no credit exposure or loan delinquency risk when it comes to Upstart. This keeps advertisers happy and can ultimately boost the long-term ad-pricing power for PubMatic's clients over the long run.Although global digital ad spend is expected to increase by a little over 10% on an annual basis through 2024, PubMatic has been growing considerably faster.  Last year, the company's organic growth rate was 49% and was driven by mobile, video, and connected TV (CTV) programmatic ads. In fact, CTV ad revenue grew more than sixfold in the fourth quarter from the prior-year period.With PubMatic profitable on a recurring basis and forecast to grow sales by close to 25% in 2022 and 2023, it makes for the perfect stock to buy following a big dip in the Nasdaq.PayPal HoldingsA third beaten-down growth stock that's begging to be bought on this decline is fintech giant PayPal Holdings. PayPal's stock has fallen 62% since July 2021.As with CrowdStrike and PubMatic, PayPal has a no-brainer growth opportunity on its doorstep. In this instance, I'm talking about digital payments. Even with competition in the digital payments space heating up, PayPal recorded $1.25 trillion in total payment volume (TPV) in 2021 and expects TPV will climb to or beyond $1.5 trillion in 2022.What's arguably the most impressive aspect of PayPal is the growing number of payments from existing users. In 2020, there were fewer than 41 transactions per active account. Last year, this figure surpassed 45 per active account (over 19 billion transactions spanning 426 million active users).  These figures show how quickly the payments landscape is going digital.PayPal's abundant cash flow has also allowed the company to roll out new products and services. The company began allowing users to buy, hold, and sell cryptocurrencies in 2020, and is tinkering with launching a U.S. stock trading platform. It used its mountain of cash to acquire buy now, pay later solutions company Paidy last September, too.At just a hair over 20 times Wall Street's forward-year earnings forecast, PayPal is arguably the cheapest it's ever been as a public company.Upstart HoldingsThe fourth and final beaten-down growth stock you'll regret not buying on the dip is cloud-based lending platform Upstart Holdings. Shares of the company have lost three-quarters of their value since October and are down close to 55% since the Nasdaq Composite hit its all-time high.Upstart's claim to fame is the company's AI-driven lending platform. The traditional loan-vetting process can take quite a bit of time and be costly for both lending institutions and the party looking for a loan. Upstart's AI-powered platform can give on-the-spot answers (approval or denial) to roughly two-thirds of personal loan applicants. Furthermore, because the platform relies on machine learning, people who might not otherwise qualify for a loan under the traditional vetting process are sometimes approved using Upstart's process. In other words, it's democratizing access to financial services without putting lending institutions at a higher risk of loan delinquencies.Something else investors should take note of is that 94% of fourth-quarter revenue came from fees and services tied to the lending institutions it caters to. In short, there's no credit exposure or loan delinquency risk when it comes to Upstart. This means a rising-rate environment shouldn't chase investors away from this rapidly growing company.If you need one more good reason to be excited about Upstart (aside from the company crushing Wall Street's earnings expectations on a regular basis), consider its acquisition of Prodigy Software in 2021. It owns the world&#39;s largest online search engine, the most popular mobile operating system (Android), the top web browser (Chrome), the leading webmail service (Gmail), and the largest free streaming video site (YouTube).</p><p>The tech giant also owns the world&#39;s third-largest cloud infrastructure platform, a driverless vehicle division, and an experimental life science divisions. These smaller businesses could gradually reduce Alphabet&#39;s dependence on Google&#39;s advertising services over the long term.</p><p>Between 2016 and 2021, Alphabet&#39;s revenue grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23%. Its net income rose at CAGR of 31%. Its stock price has more than tripled over the past five years, and it will likely attract even more attention from smaller investors following its 20-for-1 split in July.</p><p>But for now, Alphabet still looks cheap at 24 times forward earnings, which makes it the second-cheapest FAANG stock after Facebook&#39;s parent company <b>Meta</b> (NASDAQ:FB). Butunlike Meta, Alphabet doesn&#39;t face significant privacy-related headwinds and isn&#39;t executing a costly transition toward virtual reality hardware and software. Those strengths make Alphabet one of my favorite stocks to buy and hold forever.</p><p><b>2. Adobe</b></p><p><b>Adobe</b> (NASDAQ:ADBE) is another one of my favorite long-term holdings because its ecosystem is sticky and its growth is remarkably consistent.</p><p>Over the past decade, it transformed all of its flagship Creative software applications -- including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro -- into cloud-based subscription services. That transition locked in its customers and eliminated Adobe&#39;s dependence on periodic desktop-based upgrades.</p><p>Adobe also expanded its portfolio of enterprise-facing cloud services for sales, marketing, analytics, and e-commerce teams.</p><p>That cloud-based transformation enabled Adobe to grow just as consistently as Alphabet. Between 2016 and 2021, Adobe&#39;s revenue and adjusted net income increased at a CAGR of 22% and 32%, respectively, as its annual gross margin expanded from 86% to 88%. Its stock price more than quadrupled over the past five years.</p><p>I believe Adobe will maintain that momentum over the long term for two simple reasons. First, its Creative Cloud is essential for media and design professionals, and it doesn&#39;t face any meaningful competitors. Second, its enterprise-facing Digital Experience services will profit from the ongoing digitization of business processes across multiple industries.</p><p>Adobe&#39;s stock might not seem cheap at 36 times forward earnings. However, the resilience of its evergreen businesses justifies that premium and makes it a good defensive stock to own as rising interest rates rattle the market.</p><p><b>3. Texas Instruments</b></p><p><b>Texas Instruments</b> (NASDAQ:TXN) might seem like a dusty old producer of analog and embedded chips, but its slow and steady growth has generated impressive long-term gains for patient investors.</p><p>Between 2004 and 2021, TI grew its annual revenue at a CAGR of just 2%. However, its net income increased at a CAGR of 9%, its earnings per share improved at CAGR of 13%, and its free cash flow per share increased at an average rate of 12% annually.</p><p>TI&#39;s bottom-line growth outpaced its top-line growth because it stopped competing against higher-end chipmakers like <b>Qualcomm</b> and <b>Nvidia</b>. Instead, it focused on manufacturing cheaper, less capital-intensive analog and embedded chips to reduce its operating expenses and generate consistent cash flows. In recent years, it&#39;s been pivoting from 200mm to 300mm wafers to reduce the costs of its unpackaged parts by about 40%.</p><p>That transition, which relied heavily on the secular expansion of the automotive and industrial markets, boosted TI&#39;s gross margin from 45% in 2004 to 67% in 2021. It also reduced its share count by 46% during that period, while increasing its dividend annually for 18 consecutive years.</p><p>TI&#39;s stable growth and shareholder-friendly measures helped TI generate a solid total return of nearly 150% over the past five years. That transition locked in its customers and eliminated Adobe&#39;s dependence on periodic desktop-based upgrades.</p><p>Adobe also expanded its portfolio of enterprise-facing cloud services for sales, marketing, analytics, and e-commerce teams.</p><p>That cloud-based transformation enabled Adobe to grow just as consistently as Alphabet. Between 2016 and 2021, Adobe&#39;s revenue and adjusted net income increased at a CAGR of 22% and 32%, respectively, as its annual gross margin expanded from 86% to 88%. Its stock price more than quadrupled over the past five years.</p><p>I believe Adobe will maintain that momentum over the long term for two simple reasons. First, its Creative Cloud is essential for media and design professionals, and it doesn&#39;t face any meaningful competitors. Second, its enterprise-facing Digital Experience services will profit from the ongoing digitization of business processes across multiple industries.</p><p>Adobe&#39;s stock might not seem cheap at 36 times forward earnings. However, the resilience of its evergreen businesses justifies that premium and makes it a good defensive stock to own as rising interest rates rattle the market.</p><p><b>3. Texas Instruments</b></p><p><b>Texas Instruments</b> (NASDAQ:TXN) might seem like a dusty old producer of analog and embedded chips, but its slow and steady growth has generated impressive long-term gains for patient investors.</p><p>Between 2004 and 2021, TI grew its annual revenue at a CAGR of just 2%. However, its net income increased at a CAGR of 9%, its earnings per share improved at CAGR of 13%, and its free cash flow per share increased at an average rate of 12% annually.</p><p>TI&#39;s bottom-line growth outpaced its top-line growth because it stopped competing against higher-end chipmakers like <b>Qualcomm</b> and <b>Nvidia</b>. Instead, it focused on manufacturing cheaper, less capital-intensive analog and embedded chips to reduce its operating expenses and generate consistent cash flows. In recent years, it&#39;s been pivoting from 200mm to 300mm wafers to reduce the costs of its unpackaged parts by about 40%.</p><p>That transition, which relied heavily on the secular expansion of the automotive and industrial markets, boosted TI&#39;s gross margin from 45% in 2004 to 67% in 2021. It also reduced its share count by 46% during that period, while increasing its dividend annually for 18 consecutive years.</p><p>TI&#39;s stable growth and shareholder-friendly measures helped TI generate a solid total return of nearly 150% over the past five years. These smaller businesses could gradually reduce Alphabet&#39;s dependence on Google&#39;s advertising services over the long term.</p><p>Between 2016 and 2021, Alphabet&#39;s revenue grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23%. Its net income rose at CAGR of 31%. Its stock price has more than tripled over the past five years, and it will likely attract even more attention from smaller investors following its 20-for-1 split in July.</p><p>But for now, Alphabet still looks cheap at 24 times forward earnings, which makes it the second-cheapest FAANG stock after Facebook&#39;s parent company <b>Meta</b> (NASDAQ:FB). Butunlike Meta, Alphabet doesn&#39;t face significant privacy-related headwinds and isn&#39;t executing a costly transition toward virtual reality hardware and software. Those strengths make Alphabet one of my favorite stocks to buy and hold forever.</p><p><b>2. Adobe</b></p><p><b>Adobe</b> (NASDAQ:ADBE) is another one of my favorite long-term holdings because its ecosystem is sticky and its growth is remarkably consistent.</p><p>Over the past decade, it transformed all of its flagship Creative software applications -- including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro -- into cloud-based subscription services. That transition locked in its customers and eliminated Adobe&#39;s dependence on periodic desktop-based upgrades.</p><p>Adobe also expanded its portfolio of enterprise-facing cloud services for sales, marketing, analytics, and e-commerce teams.</p><p>That cloud-based transformation enabled Adobe to grow just as consistently as Alphabet. Between 2016 and 2021, Adobe&#39;s revenue and adjusted net income increased at a CAGR of 22% and 32%, respectively, as its annual gross margin expanded from 86% to 88%. Its stock price more than quadrupled over the past five years.</p><p>I believe Adobe will maintain that momentum over the long term for two simple reasons. First, its Creative Cloud is essential for media and design professionals, and it doesn&#39;t face any meaningful competitors. Second, its enterprise-facing Digital Experience services will profit from the ongoing digitization of business processes across multiple industries.</p><p>Adobe&#39;s stock might not seem cheap at 36 times forward earnings. However, the resilience of its evergreen businesses justifies that premium and makes it a good defensive stock to own as rising interest rates rattle the market.</p><p><b>3. Texas Instruments</b></p><p><b>Texas Instruments</b> (NASDAQ:TXN) might seem like a dusty old producer of analog and embedded chips, but its slow and steady growth has generated impressive long-term gains for patient investors.</p><p>Between 2004 and 2021, TI grew its annual revenue at a CAGR of just 2%. However, its net income increased at a CAGR of 9%, its earnings per share improved at CAGR of 13%, and its free cash flow per share increased at an average rate of 12% annually.</p><p>TI&#39;s bottom-line growth outpaced its top-line growth because it stopped competing against higher-end chipmakers like <b>Qualcomm</b> and <b>Nvidia</b>. Instead, it focused on manufacturing cheaper, less capital-intensive analog and embedded chips to reduce its operating expenses and generate consistent cash flows. In recent years, it&#39;s been pivoting from 200mm to 300mm wafers to reduce the costs of its unpackaged parts by about 40%.</p><p>That transition, which relied heavily on the secular expansion of the automotive and industrial markets, boosted TI&#39;s gross margin from 45% in 2004 to 67% in 2021. It also reduced its share count by 46% during that period, while increasing its dividend annually for 18 consecutive years.</p><p>TI&#39;s stable growth and shareholder-friendly measures helped TI generate a solid total return of nearly 150% over the past five years. Between mid-November and mid-March, the famed index shed 22% of its value and briefly entered a bear market.</p><p>While big declines in the major market indexes can be scary in the short run, they&#39;ve historically proven to be the ideal time to put your money to work. That&#39;s because every notable dip in the market, which includes the Nasdaq Composite, has eventually been cleared away by a bull market rally.</p><p>Below are four beaten-down growth stocks you&#39;ll likely regret not buying on the bear market dip in the Nasdaq.</p><h2>CrowdStrike Holdings</h2><p>One of the smartest buys investors can make during the Nasdaq pullback is cybersecurity stock <b>CrowdStrike Holdings</b>. Shares of the company have fallen 26% since the Nasdaq hit an all-time high in November.</p><p>The beauty of cybersecurity stocks is that they&#39;ve evolved into a basic necessity service. With businesses shifting their data online and into the cloud at an accelerated rate since the pandemic began, the onus of protecting this data from hackers and robots is increasingly falling on third-party providers like CrowdStrike.</p><p>What makes CrowdStrike the cybersecurity company to own is its cloud-native security platform, known as Falcon. Falcon oversees about 1 trillion events daily and relies on artificial intelligence (AI) to keep end users safe. Since it&#39;s built in the cloud and leaning on AI, Falcon can identify and respond to end-user threats faster and more effectively than virtually all on-premises security solutions.</p><p>Over the past five years, CrowdStrike&#39;s subscriber count has catapulted from 450 to 16,325, which represents a compound annual growth rate of 105.1%.  Equally important, its existing customers are consistently spending more. In five years, the percentage of clients with four or more cloud-module subscriptions has jumped from less than 10% to 69%. This is why CrowdStrike&#39;s adjusted subscription gross margin is nearly 80%.</p><h2>PubMatic</h2><p>Another beaten-down high-growth stock you&#39;ll regret not buying on the dip is programmatic ad-tech company <b>PubMatic</b>. Shares of PubMatic are down more than 30% since November and almost 65% since hitting an all-time high in March 2021.</p><p>PubMatic&#39;s sustainable growth driver is the steady shift of advertising dollars from print to various digital formats. What PubMatic&#39;s cloud-based infrastructure does is oversee the sale of digital advertising space for its clients (i.e., publishers). Interestingly, this doesn&#39;t always mean placing the highest-priced ad in a display space. Rather, PubMatic&#39;s machine-learning algorithms will aim to place relevant ads in front of users. This keeps advertisers happy and can ultimately boost the long-term ad-pricing power for PubMatic&#39;s clients over the long run.</p><p>Although global digital ad spend is expected to increase by a little over 10% on an annual basis through 2024, PubMatic has been growing considerably faster.  Last year, the company&#39;s organic growth rate was 49% and was driven by mobile, video, and connected TV (CTV) programmatic ads. In fact, CTV ad revenue grew more than sixfold in the fourth quarter from the prior-year period.</p><p>With PubMatic profitable on a recurring basis and forecast to grow sales by close to 25% in 2022 and 2023, it makes for the perfect stock to buy following a big dip in the Nasdaq.</p><h2><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PYPL\">PayPal</a> Holdings</h2><p>A third beaten-down growth stock that&#39;s begging to be bought on this decline is fintech giant <b>PayPal Holdings</b>. PayPal&#39;s stock has fallen 62% since July 2021.</p><p>As with CrowdStrike and PubMatic, PayPal has a no-brainer growth opportunity on its doorstep. In this instance, I&#39;m talking about digital payments. Even with competition in the digital payments space heating up, PayPal recorded $1.25 trillion in total payment volume (TPV) in 2021 and expects TPV will climb to or beyond $1.5 trillion in 2022.</p><p>What&#39;s arguably the most impressive aspect of PayPal is the growing number of payments from existing users. In 2020, there were fewer than 41 transactions per active account. Last year, this figure surpassed 45 per active account (over 19 billion transactions spanning 426 million active users).  These figures show how quickly the payments landscape is going digital.</p><p>PayPal&#39;s abundant cash flow has also allowed the company to roll out new products and services. The company began allowing users to buy, hold, and sell cryptocurrencies in 2020, and is tinkering with launching a U.S. stock trading platform. It used its mountain of cash to acquire buy now, pay later solutions company Paidy last September, too.</p><p>At just a hair over 20 times Wall Street&#39;s forward-year earnings forecast, PayPal is arguably the cheapest it&#39;s ever been as a public company.</p><h2>Upstart Holdings</h2><p>The fourth and final beaten-down growth stock you&#39;ll regret not buying on the dip is cloud-based lending platform <b>Upstart Holdings</b>. Shares of the company have lost three-quarters of their value since October and are down close to 55% since the Nasdaq Composite hit its all-time high.</p><p>Upstart&#39;s claim to fame is the company&#39;s AI-driven lending platform. The traditional loan-vetting process can take quite a bit of time and be costly for both lending institutions and the party looking for a loan. Upstart&#39;s AI-powered platform can give on-the-spot answers (approval or denial) to roughly two-thirds of personal loan applicants. Furthermore, because the platform relies on machine learning, people who might not otherwise qualify for a loan under the traditional vetting process are sometimes approved using Upstart&#39;s process. In other words, it&#39;s democratizing access to financial services without putting lending institutions at a higher risk of loan delinquencies.</p><p>Something else investors should take note of is that 94% of fourth-quarter revenue came from fees and services tied to the lending institutions it caters to. In short, there&#39;s no credit exposure or loan delinquency risk when it comes to Upstart. This means a rising-rate environment shouldn&#39;t chase investors away from this rapidly growing company.</p><p>If you need <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> more good reason to be excited about Upstart (aside from the company crushing Wall Street&#39;s earnings expectations on a regular basis), consider its acquisition of Prodigy Software in 2021. Furthermore, because the platform relies on machine learning, people who might not otherwise qualify for a loan under the traditional vetting process are sometimes approved using Upstart's process. In other words, it's democratizing access to financial services without putting lending institutions at a higher risk of loan delinquencies.Something else investors should take note of is that 94% of fourth-quarter revenue came from fees and services tied to the lending institutions it caters to. Microsoft Corp. tumbled 3.9%, its worst decline in more than a month. Chipmaker Nvidia Corp. sank 5.2%,extending losses sustained over the past five sessions to 20%. The stock hasn’t had a five-day run this bad since March 2020.</p><p>“There’s so much pessimism,” said Kim Forrest, chief investment officer and founder of Bokeh Capital Partners. “The war in Ukraine, higher interest rates, recession fears, China’s Covid lockdowns and then oil prices -- it’s all very gloomy.”</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e7485031c7059c7de042466c120adc76\" tg-width=\"930\" tg-height=\"523\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Those macro-economic risks are causing even some of the most outspoken bulls to grow more cautious. JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co.’s Marko Kolanovic advised clients to take some profits, citing risks from geopolitics and Fed tightening, just a month after he advised adding to stock holdings.</p><p>Kolanovic may be onto something, however, as the latest bout of selling comes after a three-week rally that sent the Nasdaq soaring 16% from a March 14 low as investors snapped up growth stocks amid optimism that they would be well-positioned to outperform as economic growth slows. Now, that optimism has been replaced by fear that an aggressive Fed bent on fighting inflation at all costs will send the economy into recession.</p><p><b>Tough Risk Environment</b></p><p>Fed Governor Christopher Waller acknowledged those risks on Monday, saying that interest rate hikes are a “brute-force tool” that can cause “collateral damage.”</p><p>The Fed raised its key rate by a quarter point last month and signaled it expects to lift it to 1.9% by the end of 2022 as the central bank seeks to bring inflation under control. Officials have said they’re open to moving faster if needed, including by hiking a half point at the central bank’s May 3-4 meeting. Higher interest rates reduce the present value of future earnings, weighing especially on shares of fast-growing companies whose profit potential isn’t expected to be realized for years.</p><p>“This is a tough environment to want to hold onto risk and that might remain the case until investors believe the Fed may not be as aggressive with tightening policy,” Edward Moya, senior market analyst at Oanda, wrote in a note to clients. “The Fed has locked itself into delivering a couple massive rate hikes and the earliest they could flip-flop and ease up on tightening as growth concerns become a priority is the middle of the summer.”</p><p>In January, a whopping $3 trillion was wiped out by the time the rout bottomed out, while February and March were relatively better, seeing selloffs of $1.7 trillion and $1.5 trillion, respectively. The stock hasn’t had a five-day run this bad since March 2020.“There’s so much pessimism,” said Kim Forrest, chief investment officer and founder of Bokeh Capital Partners. “The war in Ukraine, higher interest rates, recession fears, China’s Covid lockdowns and then oil prices -- it’s all very gloomy.”Those macro-economic risks are causing even some of the most outspoken bulls to grow more cautious. JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s Marko Kolanovic advised clients to take some profits, citing risks from geopolitics and Fed tightening, just a month after he advised adding to stock holdings.Kolanovic may be onto something, however, as the latest bout of selling comes after a three-week rally that sent the Nasdaq soaring 16% from a March 14 low as investors snapped up growth stocks amid optimism that they would be well-positioned to outperform as economic growth slows. Now, that optimism has been replaced by fear that an aggressive Fed bent on fighting inflation at all costs will send the economy into recession.Tough Risk EnvironmentFed Governor Christopher Waller acknowledged those risks on Monday, saying that interest rate hikes are a “brute-force tool” that can cause “collateral damage.”The Fed raised its key rate by a quarter point last month and signaled it expects to lift it to 1.9% by the end of 2022 as the central bank seeks to bring inflation under control. Officials have said they’re open to moving faster if needed, including by hiking a half point at the central bank’s May 3-4 meeting. However, abandoning all of your riskier assets can cause you to miss out on some massive gains down the road.</p><p>Instead of blindly panicking, investors should stick with well-run companies that are firmly profitable, generate stable growth, and trade at reasonable valuations. Alphabet</b></p><p><b>Alphabet</b> (NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL), the parent company of Google, should remain a top tech stock for decades because its ecosystem is nearly inescapable. It owns the world&#39;s largest online search engine, the most popular mobile operating system (Android), the top web browser (Chrome), the leading webmail service (Gmail), and the largest free streaming video site (YouTube).</p><p>The tech giant also owns the world&#39;s third-largest cloud infrastructure platform, a driverless vehicle division, and an experimental life science divisions. These smaller businesses could gradually reduce Alphabet&#39;s dependence on Google&#39;s advertising services over the long term.</p><p>Between 2016 and 2021, Alphabet&#39;s revenue grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23%. Its net income rose at CAGR of 31%. Its stock price has more than tripled over the past five years, and it will likely attract even more attention from smaller investors following its 20-for-1 split in July.</p><p>But for now, Alphabet still looks cheap at 24 times forward earnings, which makes it the second-cheapest FAANG stock after Facebook&#39;s parent company <b>Meta</b> (NASDAQ:FB). Butunlike Meta, Alphabet doesn&#39;t face significant privacy-related headwinds and isn&#39;t executing a costly transition toward virtual reality hardware and software. Those strengths make Alphabet one of my favorite stocks to buy and hold forever.</p><p><b>2. Adobe</b></p><p><b>Adobe</b> (NASDAQ:ADBE) is another one of my favorite long-term holdings because its ecosystem is sticky and its growth is remarkably consistent.</p><p>Over the past decade, it transformed all of its flagship Creative software applications -- including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro -- into cloud-based subscription services. That transition locked in its customers and eliminated Adobe&#39;s dependence on periodic desktop-based upgrades.</p><p>Adobe also expanded its portfolio of enterprise-facing cloud services for sales, marketing, analytics, and e-commerce teams.</p><p>That cloud-based transformation enabled Adobe to grow just as consistently as Alphabet. Between 2016 and 2021, Adobe&#39;s revenue and adjusted net income increased at a CAGR of 22% and 32%, respectively, as its annual gross margin expanded from 86% to 88%. Its stock price more than quadrupled over the past five years.</p><p>I believe Adobe will maintain that momentum over the long term for two simple reasons. First, its Creative Cloud is essential for media and design professionals, and it doesn&#39;t face any meaningful competitors. Second, its enterprise-facing Digital Experience services will profit from the ongoing digitization of business processes across multiple industries.</p><p>Adobe&#39;s stock might not seem cheap at 36 times forward earnings. However, the resilience of its evergreen businesses justifies that premium and makes it a good defensive stock to own as rising interest rates rattle the market.</p><p><b>3. Texas Instruments</b></p><p><b>Texas Instruments</b> (NASDAQ:TXN) might seem like a dusty old producer of analog and embedded chips, but its slow and steady growth has generated impressive long-term gains for patient investors.</p><p>Between 2004 and 2021, TI grew its annual revenue at a CAGR of just 2%. However, its net income increased at a CAGR of 9%, its earnings per share improved at CAGR of 13%, and its free cash flow per share increased at an average rate of 12% annually.</p><p>TI&#39;s bottom-line growth outpaced its top-line growth because it stopped competing against higher-end chipmakers like <b>Qualcomm</b> and <b>Nvidia</b>. Instead, it focused on manufacturing cheaper, less capital-intensive analog and embedded chips to reduce its operating expenses and generate consistent cash flows. In recent years, it&#39;s been pivoting from 200mm to 300mm wafers to reduce the costs of its unpackaged parts by about 40%.</p><p>That transition, which relied heavily on the secular expansion of the automotive and industrial markets, boosted TI&#39;s gross margin from 45% in 2004 to 67% in 2021. It also reduced its share count by 46% during that period, while increasing its dividend annually for 18 consecutive years.</p><p>TI&#39;s stable growth and shareholder-friendly measures helped TI generate a solid total return of nearly 150% over the past five years. However, abandoning all of your riskier assets can cause you to miss out on some massive gains down the road.Instead of blindly panicking, investors should stick with well-run companies that are firmly profitable, generate stable growth, and trade at reasonable valuations. AlphabetAlphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL), the parent company of Google, should remain a top tech stock for decades because its ecosystem is nearly inescapable. It owns the world's largest online search engine, the most popular mobile operating system (Android), the top web browser (Chrome), the leading webmail service (Gmail), and the largest free streaming video site (YouTube).The tech giant also owns the world's third-largest cloud infrastructure platform, a driverless vehicle division, and an experimental life science divisions. These smaller businesses could gradually reduce Alphabet's dependence on Google's advertising services over the long term.Between 2016 and 2021, Alphabet's revenue grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23%. Its net income rose at CAGR of 31%. Its stock price has more than tripled over the past five years, and it will likely attract even more attention from smaller investors following its 20-for-1 split in July.But for now, Alphabet still looks cheap at 24 times forward earnings, which makes it the second-cheapest FAANG stock after Facebook's parent company Meta (NASDAQ:FB). Butunlike Meta, Alphabet doesn't face significant privacy-related headwinds and isn't executing a costly transition toward virtual reality hardware and software. Those strengths make Alphabet one of my favorite stocks to buy and hold forever.2. AdobeAdobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) is another one of my favorite long-term holdings because its ecosystem is sticky and its growth is remarkably consistent.Over the past decade, it transformed all of its flagship Creative software applications -- including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro -- into cloud-based subscription services. That transition locked in its customers and eliminated Adobe's dependence on periodic desktop-based upgrades.Adobe also expanded its portfolio of enterprise-facing cloud services for sales, marketing, analytics, and e-commerce teams.That cloud-based transformation enabled Adobe to grow just as consistently as Alphabet. Between 2016 and 2021, Adobe's revenue and adjusted net income increased at a CAGR of 22% and 32%, respectively, as its annual gross margin expanded from 86% to 88%. Its stock price more than quadrupled over the past five years.I believe Adobe will maintain that momentum over the long term for two simple reasons. First, its Creative Cloud is essential for media and design professionals, and it doesn't face any meaningful competitors. Second, its enterprise-facing Digital Experience services will profit from the ongoing digitization of business processes across multiple industries.Adobe's stock might not seem cheap at 36 times forward earnings. However, the resilience of its evergreen businesses justifies that premium and makes it a good defensive stock to own as rising interest rates rattle the market.3. Texas InstrumentsTexas Instruments (NASDAQ:TXN) might seem like a dusty old producer of analog and embedded chips, but its slow and steady growth has generated impressive long-term gains for patient investors.Between 2004 and 2021, TI grew its annual revenue at a CAGR of just 2%. However, its net income increased at a CAGR of 9%, its earnings per share improved at CAGR of 13%, and its free cash flow per share increased at an average rate of 12% annually.TI's bottom-line growth outpaced its top-line growth because it stopped competing against higher-end chipmakers like Qualcomm and Nvidia. Instead, it focused on manufacturing cheaper, less capital-intensive analog and embedded chips to reduce its operating expenses and generate consistent cash flows. In recent years, it's been pivoting from 200mm to 300mm wafers to reduce the costs of its unpackaged parts by about 40%.That transition, which relied heavily on the secular expansion of the automotive and industrial markets, boosted TI's gross margin from 45% in 2004 to 67% in 2021. It also reduced its share count by 46% during that period, while increasing its dividend annually for 18 consecutive years.TI's stable growth and shareholder-friendly measures helped TI generate a solid total return of nearly 150% over the past five years.
