(NYSE:NIO) reported an April delivery card that reflected the significant ","content":"

Investment Thesis

NIO Inc. (NYSE:NIO) reported an April delivery card that reflected the significant challenges from the recent COVID lockdowns in China. As a result, we believe it could spend the next two quarters recovering to full production, impacting its revenue and profitability estimates.

Notably, the consensus estimates for FY22 have also been revised markedly downwards, reflecting these headwinds. Therefore, we believe that its stock re-rating could be delayed further into FY23. However, our price action analysis also suggested that the near-term bottom could be in. Despite the underwhelming April report, the stock did not revisit its March lows.

Furthermore, we also explained in a recent Alibaba & Chinese tech stocks article that the regulatory environment had improved markedly. Even though the COVID situation remains fluid, automotive businesses in Shanghai have started to resume operations. Therefore, we think the worst seems to be over for NIO and its Chinese EV peers.

Consequently, we reiterate our Buy rating on NIO stock as a speculative opportunity only.

NIO's Weak April Deliveries Are Expected

NIO deliveries by month (Company filings)

NIO delivered just 5.07K of vehicles in April 2022, down 28.6% YoY. It was also the company's worst showing since October 2021, when it delivered 3.67K of vehicles. Of course, its October performance was affected due to its production line upgrade. In April 2022, NIO was hit by industry-wide production cuts resulting from China's massive COVID lockdowns.

However, we believe that the impact is transitory, not structural, despite the downbeat numbers. Furthermore, companies in the automotive supply chain have started to resume operations. Therefore, NIO is also expected to increase production gradually. However, we expect full production resumption to recover only from H2'22. Deutsche Bank (DB) also weighed in recently, as it added (edited):

We expect some spillover effects in May related to suppliers slowly returning to production, while June could be the first "normal" month, assuming Covid conditions return to normal. NIO also continues to ramp up sales of its newly launched flagship ET7 sedan. We believe it will be one of the most popular premium cars on the market this year. - CnEVPost

Production Resumption In H2'22 Is Key For Re-Rating

NIO revenue YoY change % consensus estimates (Company filings)

NIO adjusted EBIT margins % consensus estimates (Company filings)

As a result of the unexpected production curbs, the consensus estimates on NIO's revenue and profitability have been revised substantially downwards. Therefore, NIO's path to profitability has also been further extended.

Notably, NIO is estimated to post revenue growth of 22.3% in FQ1, which was not impacted by the lockdowns, which intensified only at the end of March. However, its Q2 revenue growth estimates have been revised to 41.9%, from 47.8% (March estimates). Moreover, NIO's revenue growth cadence is also expected to be affected throughout the rest of FY22.

In addition, NIO's adjusted EBIT margins are also estimated to suffer from significant markdowns. For instance, NIO is expected to post an adjusted EBIT margin of -15% in Q2 (ending June), down from the -8.6% estimates in March. Commentary from the Street also seemed downcast, as Morgan Stanley (MS) accentuated (edited):

NIO's vehicle production and delivery were severely affected by supply chain disruptions amid COVID-19 lockdowns in China. Though soft April sales should have been well anticipated, investors are likely to keep a close watch on the resumption progress post-China's May holidays. - The Fly

Therefore, we strongly encourage investors to watch the automotive supply chain developments closely.

Is NIO Stock A Buy, Sell, Or Hold?

NIO stock price chart (TradingView)

As seen above, the market is still digesting the gains from 2020, overturned by the 2021 bull trap. Furthermore, NIO stock has also fallen through the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level, indicating that the momentum is bearish.

However, we also observed that NIO stock did not break below its March lows, despite the underwhelming April delivery report and revised estimates. Therefore, we are sanguine that the market has already priced in significant headwinds in NIO stock.

Accordingly, we think the stage has been set for management to more easily outperform moving forward. In addition, the revised estimates have lowered the bar for NIO to beat its upcoming Q1 earnings card, coupled with its Q2 guidance.

However, we think its re-rating could take longer, potentially only from FY23, as the market parses its production cadence. Nevertheless, we believe the bottom seems to be near, as long as the COVID headwinds don't get worse moving forward.

As such, we reiterate our Buy rating on NIO stock. However, we emphasize that it's suitable only as a speculative opportunity. (NYSE:NIO) reported an April delivery card that reflected the significant challenges from the recent COVID lockdowns in China. As a result, we believe it could spend the next two quarters recovering to full production, impacting its revenue and profitability estimates.Notably, the consensus estimates for FY22 have also been revised markedly downwards, reflecting these headwinds. Therefore, we believe that its stock re-rating could be delayed further into FY23. However, our price action analysis also suggested that the near-term bottom could be in. Despite the underwhelming April report, the stock did not revisit its March lows.Furthermore, we also explained in a recent Alibaba & Chinese tech stocks article that the regulatory environment had improved markedly. Even though the COVID situation remains fluid, automotive businesses in Shanghai have started to resume operations. Therefore, we think the worst seems to be over for NIO and its Chinese EV peers.Consequently, we reiterate our Buy rating on NIO stock as a speculative opportunity only.NIO's Weak April Deliveries Are ExpectedNIO deliveries by month (Company filings)NIO delivered just 5.07K of vehicles in April 2022, down 28.6% YoY. Deutsche Bank (DB) also weighed in recently, as it added (edited):We expect some spillover effects in May related to suppliers slowly returning to production, while June could be the first \"normal\" month, assuming Covid conditions return to normal. NIO also continues to ramp up sales of its newly launched flagship ET7 sedan. We believe it will be one of the most popular premium cars on the market this year. - CnEVPostProduction Resumption In H2'22 Is Key For Re-RatingNIO revenue YoY change % consensus estimates (Company filings)NIO adjusted EBIT margins % consensus estimates (Company filings)As a result of the unexpected production curbs, the consensus estimates on NIO's revenue and profitability have been revised substantially downwards. Therefore, NIO's path to profitability has also been further extended.Notably, NIO is estimated to post revenue growth of 22.3% in FQ1, which was not impacted by the lockdowns, which intensified only at the end of March. However, its Q2 revenue growth estimates have been revised to 41.9%, from 47.8% (March estimates). Moreover, NIO's revenue growth cadence is also expected to be affected throughout the rest of FY22.In addition, NIO's adjusted EBIT margins are also estimated to suffer from significant markdowns. For instance, NIO is expected to post an adjusted EBIT margin of -15% in Q2 (ending June), down from the -8.6% estimates in March. Commentary from the Street also seemed downcast, as Morgan Stanley (MS) accentuated (edited):NIO's vehicle production and delivery were severely affected by supply chain disruptions amid COVID-19 lockdowns in China. Though soft April sales should have been well anticipated, investors are likely to keep a close watch on the resumption progress post-China's May holidays. - The FlyTherefore, we strongly encourage investors to watch the automotive supply chain developments closely. Is NIO Stock A Buy, Sell, Or Hold?NIO stock price chart (TradingView)As seen above, the market is still digesting the gains from 2020, overturned by the 2021 bull trap. Furthermore, NIO stock has also fallen through the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level, indicating that the momentum is bearish. However, we also observed that NIO stock did not break below its March lows, despite the underwhelming April delivery report and revised estimates. Therefore, we are sanguine that the market has already priced in significant headwinds in NIO stock.Accordingly, we think the stage has been set for management to more easily outperform moving forward. Therefore, investors are reminded to size their exposure appropriately.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":246,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":804257009,"gmtCreate":1627960083001,"gmtModify":1703498645134,"author":{"id":"4087528962001780","authorId":"4087528962001780","name":"KAng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/92f5c062891e09cbfcef30cce8542973","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087528962001780","authorIdStr":"4087528962001780"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Up For Singapore, where the plant has been a mainstay of the economy for six decades, it marked a turning point in one of the most successful bets on fossil fuels in history.
\n
The plant on Bukom Island is part of a massive refining and petrochemical industry built largely on reclaimed islands just off the city-state. In tandem with the cargo vessels they fueled, the refineries helped drive Singapore’s economic success after independence, attracting billions in investment and spawning businesses from plastics to rig construction and finance.
\n
“We’ve come a long way as a result of the energy and chemical sector,” said Tan See Leng, Singapore’s labor minister and second minister for trade and industry. “The key thing is not to completely sort of move away, but to see how we can pivot, how we can transform.”
\n
To that end, the government this year released the Singapore Green Plan 2030, setting out a path for the city-state to become a leading regional hub for carbon trading, green finance, consulting and risk management and other services. Sovereign wealth fund Temasek Holdings Pte., along with the Singapore Exchange, Standard Chartered Plc and DBS Group Holdings Ltd. announced in May a plan to set up a global exchange for high-quality carbon credits.
\n
The city also offers a modern base with a skilled workforce from which new energy companies can run their operations in the region. Vena Energy Capital Pte., one of the largest independent renewable power generators in Asia-Pacific, with wind and solar projects stretching from Australia to India, established its headquarters in a modernist glass-and-steel tower in the city’s financial center, despite having no other operations in the country.
\n
“Given the regulatory transparency that Singapore has, it gives comfort to investors,” said Vena Chief Executive Officer Nitin Apte. “That was true in the past and will be true in the future with renewables.”
\n
Oil Town
\n
But Singapore’s switch from black gold to green energy is a difficult balancing act. In 2019, the city was the world’s fourth-biggest exporter of refined petroleum, and fuels and chemicals accounted for around 23% of its total merchandise trade, according to data from the World Bank and the Observatory of Economic Complexity. It’s still a regional trading center for coal, natural gas and oil products and supports dozens of finance houses that specialize in the commodities. More than 100 global chemical companies have operations in the city.
\n
Bukom Island was there at the start. As far back as the 1890s it was the landing place for Russian kerosene. Shell opened Singapore’s first refinery there just prior to independence in 1961 and four more plants were added over the next couple of decades.
\n
Exxon Mobil Corp.’s antecedents soon followed, including a refinery on the nearby island of Ayer Chawan, now part of the giant Jurong Island refining complex that Singapore is hoping to transform into an industrial park for sustainable energy and chemicals.
\n
Now Shell’s investment is in reverse. About 500 jobs will go at the Bukom complex, and many more will likely disappear in Singapore in the coming years. For a nation with no natural resources of its own, its position as an intermediary in the global fuel supply chain will be hard to replace.
\n
Singapore owes much of its economic success to imaginative and ruthless exploitation of its location, wrote historian Michael Barr in his book “Singapore: A Modern History.” In the energy sector that meant leveraging its position on one of the world’s busiest shipping routes, between the Middle East and the major economies in East Asia.
\n
That won’t necessarily help its status as an energy hub for renewables like solar and wind that tend to be located in consuming countries, but it could still be an asset for hydrogen, which is gaining momentum as a possible emissions-free fuel for transportation and other energy supplies.
\n
Hydrogen Hope
\n
“As it has with natural gas, it may be able to position itself as an intermediary for hydrogen in terms of pricing, terminal facilities and storage,” said David Skilling, founding director of Landfall Strategy Group, which advises small, advanced economies. Still, it’s not yet clear to what extent the hydrogen economy will rely on hubs, said Skilling, who was based in Singapore for more than a decade before relocating recently to the Netherlands.
\n
More than 30 countries have released hydrogen roadmaps, according to a report by the Hydrogen Council and McKinsey & Co. But Singapore isn’t yet ready to commit to a strategy, Tan said.
\n
The government has agreements with Australia and Chile for potential collaboration on hydrogen technology, and is working with Japanese companies on ways to transport the gas, Tan said. “As the technology gets more accepted, more widely available, as costs start to drop somewhat, I think they’ll come to an inflection point,” he said.
\n
Hydrogen and liquefied natural gas have the advantage for Singapore that some oil and petrochemical infrastructure can be retooled for them, said George Nassaouati, who looks at energy transition risks as head of natural resources Asia at Willis Towers Watson. Singapore could also provide engineering and project management expertise to help set up LNG or hydrogen facilities in Southeast Asia, he said.
\n
Landfall’s Skilling says the “constructive paranoia” that enabled Singapore to navigate waves of economic disruption may help it make the transition. “It’s always very adept at figuring out what the next thing is, figuring out what its niche in that space is and being able to extract value from it,” he said.
\n
The attention and direction from the government is definitely there, said Selena Ling, head of treasury research and strategy at Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. The Monetary Authority of Singapore is developing grant programs to support green and sustainability loans, as well as placing $2 billion of funds with asset managers to catalyze green finance activities out of Singapore, she said.
\n
Singapore is looking at raising its carbon tax higher than originally planned, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu told Bloomberg in an interview on Friday. The city-state was the first in Asia to introduce a levy on carbon, currently set at S$5 per ton of greenhouse gas. The tax will be revised shortly, Fu said.
\n
A privately run carbon-credit trading platform that’s backed by some of the nation’s biggest firms would probably be up and running by the end of the year, she said.
\n
The state of 5.7 million people may also have more time to adapt than Europe or the U.S. because it’s in a region that looks set to rely on hydrocarbons for many years to come. South and Southeast Asia will have the highest oil products demand growth over 2019 to 2035, according to another report from McKinsey. Singapore’s refiners don’t need to do anything drastic yet, said Victor Shum, vice president of energy consulting at IHS Markit.
\n
Until around 2030 at least, there’s little risk of a major drop-off in demand for oil products, Tan said. Meanwhile, the government is encouraging innovation in areas like carbon capture and moving toward more solar and tidal power, in its drive to be in the vanguard of the energy transition in the region.
\n
“I’m not sure they necessarily want to follow us, but I think we hope to be the green oasis,” he said.
","source":"lsy1612507957220","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Singapore Prepares to Swap Its Oil Hub Status for Greener Future
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nSingapore Prepares to Swap Its Oil Hub Status for Greener Future\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-19 09:40 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
(Bloomberg) -- Royal Dutch Shell Plc announced late last year it would slash capacity by half at its biggest oil refinery. Sovereign wealth fund Temasek Holdings Pte., along with the Singapore Exchange, Standard Chartered Plc and DBS Group Holdings Ltd. announced in May a plan to set up a global exchange for high-quality carbon credits.\nThe city also offers a modern base with a skilled workforce from which new energy companies can run their operations in the region. Vena Energy Capital Pte., one of the largest independent renewable power generators in Asia-Pacific, with wind and solar projects stretching from Australia to India, established its headquarters in a modernist glass-and-steel tower in the city’s financial center, despite having no other operations in the country.\n“Given the regulatory transparency that Singapore has, it gives comfort to investors,” said Vena Chief Executive Officer Nitin Apte. “That was true in the past and will be true in the future with renewables.”\nOil Town\nBut Singapore’s switch from black gold to green energy is a difficult balancing act. More than 100 global chemical companies have operations in the city.\nBukom Island was there at the start. As far back as the 1890s it was the landing place for Russian kerosene. Shell opened Singapore’s first refinery there just prior to independence in 1961 and four more plants were added over the next couple of decades.\nExxon Mobil Corp.’s antecedents soon followed, including a refinery on the nearby island of Ayer Chawan, now part of the giant Jurong Island refining complex that Singapore is hoping to transform into an industrial park for sustainable energy and chemicals.\nNow Shell’s investment is in reverse. About 500 jobs will go at the Bukom complex, and many more will likely disappear in Singapore in the coming years. For a nation with no natural resources of its own, its position as an intermediary in the global fuel supply chain will be hard to replace.\nSingapore owes much of its economic success to imaginative and ruthless exploitation of its location, wrote historian Michael Barr in his book “Singapore: A Modern History.” In the energy sector that meant leveraging its position on one of the world’s busiest shipping routes, between the Middle East and the major economies in East Asia.\nThat won’t necessarily help its status as an energy hub for renewables like solar and wind that tend to be located in consuming countries, but it could still be an asset for hydrogen, which is gaining momentum as a possible emissions-free fuel for transportation and other energy supplies.\nHydrogen Hope\n“As it has with natural gas, it may be able to position itself as an intermediary for hydrogen in terms of pricing, terminal facilities and storage,” said David Skilling, founding director of Landfall Strategy Group, which advises small, advanced economies. Still, it’s not yet clear to what extent the hydrogen economy will rely on hubs, said Skilling, who was based in Singapore for more than a decade before relocating recently to the Netherlands.\nMore than 30 countries have released hydrogen roadmaps, according to a report by the Hydrogen Council and McKinsey & Co. But Singapore isn’t yet ready to commit to a strategy, Tan said.\nThe government has agreements with Australia and Chile for potential collaboration on hydrogen technology, and is working with Japanese companies on ways to transport the gas, Tan said. “As the technology gets more accepted, more widely available, as costs start to drop somewhat, I think they’ll come to an inflection point,” he said.\nHydrogen and liquefied natural gas have the advantage for Singapore that some oil and petrochemical infrastructure can be retooled for them, said George Nassaouati, who looks at energy transition risks as head of natural resources Asia at Willis Towers Watson. Singapore could also provide engineering and project management expertise to help set up LNG or hydrogen facilities in Southeast Asia, he said.\nLandfall’s Skilling says the “constructive paranoia” that enabled Singapore to navigate waves of economic disruption may help it make the transition. “It’s always very adept at figuring out what the next thing is, figuring out what its niche in that space is and being able to extract value from it,” he said.\nThe attention and direction from the government is definitely there, said Selena Ling, head of treasury research and strategy at Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. The Monetary Authority of Singapore is developing grant programs to support green and sustainability loans, as well as placing $2 billion of funds with asset managers to catalyze green finance activities out of Singapore, she said.\nSingapore is looking at raising its carbon tax higher than originally planned, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu told Bloomberg in an interview on Friday. The city-state was the first in Asia to introduce a levy on carbon, currently set at S$5 per ton of greenhouse gas. The tax will be revised shortly, Fu said.\nA privately run carbon-credit trading platform that’s backed by some of the nation’s biggest firms would probably be up and running by the end of the year, she said.\nThe state of 5.7 million people may also have more time to adapt than Europe or the U.S. because it’s in a region that looks set to rely on hydrocarbons for many years to come. South and Southeast Asia will have the highest oil products demand growth over 2019 to 2035, according to another report from McKinsey. Singapore’s refiners don’t need to do anything drastic yet, said Victor Shum, vice president of energy consulting at IHS Markit.\nUntil around 2030 at least, there’s little risk of a major drop-off in demand for oil products, Tan said. Meanwhile, the government is encouraging innovation in areas like carbon capture and moving toward more solar and tidal power, in its drive to be in the vanguard of the energy transition in the region.\n“I’m not sure they necessarily want to follow us, but I think we hope to be the green oasis,” he said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":66,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":173292849,"gmtCreate":1626660758081,"gmtModify":1703762878759,"author":{"id":"4087528962001780","authorId":"4087528962001780","name":"KAng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/92f5c062891e09cbfcef30cce8542973","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087528962001780","authorIdStr":"4087528962001780"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a 285,000 of them -- be fixed to address a safety issue.
\n
The State Administration for Market Regulation said in a statement on Saturday that the action involves 211,256 locally produced Model 3 vehicles and 35,665 imported ones, as well as 38,599 China-made Model Ys. The California-based carmaker only began deliveries of the Model Y sports-utility vehicle in January, so the recall will affect pretty much every driver who bought one.
\n
The Chinese agency said the vehicles’ autopilot systems can be activated automatically, potentially leading to crashes from sudden acceleration. In most cases, the fix should be able to be made remotely with an online update to the cars’ active cruise control feature. Tesla will upgrade the software for free.
\n
While Tesla apologized via its official customer support account on Weibo, saying that it will “continue to improve safety in strict accordance with national requirements,” the recall tops a string of embarrassing setbacks for the company in China. A protest that went viral at the Shanghai auto show in mid-April and a spate of crashes has soured public opinion toward the EV pioneer and a few local governments and official institutions are reviewing Tesla ownership among their staff, citing concerns the cars pose security risks.
\n
In March, Teslas were banned from some military complexes and housing compounds because of worries about the of of in-built cameras. Tesla immediately moved to reassure authorities, saying any data collected in China is stored locally.
\n
That the required software fix impacts Tesla’s Model Y is especially unfortunate. The SUV crossover, which has a driving range of up to 594 kilometers (369 miles), was seen as enabling Tesla to target a much bigger customer base in the world’s biggest market for EVs and cars overall.
\n
Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk has said the Model Y has the potential to outsell all other vehicles it makes and just this month, China’s Passenger Car Association forecast increased interest in larger, roomier cars, particularly in the seven-seater category, as government rules allow parents to have more children.
\n
Credit Suisse Group AG said in a note last week that one key downside risk to its $800 price target for Tesla stock is Model Y difficulties and a lack of demand in international markets. Tesla’s Nasdaq-traded shares closed Friday at $671.87 and are down about 5% since January. They soared 743% last year.
\n
Tesla’s delivery times at some locations in China “have declined from 39 to 33 days -- potentially an indication of fewer orders converting to sales,” Credit Suisse analyst Dan Levy wrote. However, while some customers have switched brands due to recent negative headlines, “there are still ample Model Y orders to support continued sales volume,” Levy said.
\n
Foreign brands accounted for about 37% of new-energy vehicle sales in China last year and 57% year-to-date. The nation is Tesla’s second most-important market after the U.S. and it’s now exporting China-made cars to Europe from its Shanghai Gigafactory. But a handful of fast-growing, homegrown upstarts threaten its strong position, particularly Nio Inc. and Xpeng Inc. In the mass market, local buyers are being won over by cheap, functional electric cars made by SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co.
\n
Sales of China-made Model Ys, which start from around $53,000, more than doubled in May from April. April’s figures were down on March because some production lines at Tesla’s Shanghai factory were suspended for two weeks for maintenance and adjustment.
\n
“Once the Model Y gets to full production, we’ll probably see a ratio of almost a 2-to-1” versus the Model 3 sedan, Tu Le, the managing director of Beijing-based consultancy Sino Auto Insights said earlier this month. “Chinese consumers love SUVs and crossovers. I think the Model Y is going to do really well toward the end of this year.”
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tesla Dealt Big Blow as Almost All Cars in China Need Safety Fix
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nTesla Dealt Big Blow as Almost All Cars in China Need Safety Fix\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-28 09:00 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
(Bloomberg) -- Tesla Inc.’s aspirations in China were dealt a major blow over the weekend after the government ordered that almost all the cars it’s sold in the nation -- more than 285,000 of them -- ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"CAAS":"中汽系统","TSLA":"特斯拉"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tesla-dealt-big-blow-almost-210000618.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5f26f4a48f9cb3e29be4d71d3ba8c038","article_id":"2146000147","content_text":"(Bloomberg) -- Tesla Inc.’s aspirations in China were dealt a major blow over the weekend after the government ordered that almost all the cars it’s sold in the nation -- more than 285,000 of them -- be fixed to address a safety issue.\nThe State Administration for Market Regulation said in a statement on Saturday that the action involves 211,256 locally produced Model 3 vehicles and 35,665 imported ones, as well as 38,599 China-made Model Ys. April’s figures were down on March because some production lines at Tesla’s Shanghai factory were suspended for two weeks for maintenance and adjustment.\n“Once the Model Y gets to full production, we’ll probably see a ratio of almost a 2-to-1” versus the Model 3 sedan, Tu Le, the managing director of Beijing-based consultancy Sino Auto Insights said earlier this month. “Chinese consumers love SUVs and crossovers. I think the Model Y is going to do really well toward the end of this year.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":111,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":808002449,"gmtCreate":1627540339381,"gmtModify":1703491975146,"author":{"id":"4087528962001780","authorId":"4087528962001780","name":"KAng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/92f5c062891e09cbfcef30cce8542973","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087528962001780","authorIdStr":"4087528962001780"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like great cyclical rebound is about to get underway with outsized gains expected in the quarterly profits of industrial, consumer discretionary, energy and materials companies.\nEarnings growth in the second quarter is expected to be a stunning 66%, as companies compare their results to the depressed period last year when the pandemic abruptly shut down the economy, according to Refinitiv data.\nNormally a profit leader, the technology sector this quarter, is expected to see just 32% profit growth, according to Refiniv. That compares to shockingly large estimated increases in industrial sector profits of more than 570%, and energy industry profits, up 220%. Earnings for the financial and materials sectors are expected to be up more than 100% each.\nThose huge gains and expected earnings beats should be a positive for some cyclical stocks this quarter. Earnings season kicks off Tuesday with reports fromJPMorgan Chase,Goldman Sachs,andPepsiCo.\nThis earnings season will be the period where the tug of war that’s been a factor in the stock market, between cyclical and growth trades, is due to play out very clearly in the earnings numbers. Inflationary pressures, negative for tech stock performance, are expected to help boost cyclical earnings growth in the rebound, as companies face rising input costs but also up their prices.\n“I think what you’re going to see is a very unusual kind of contradiction between the data and the narrative,” said Jonathan Golub, chief U.S. equity strategist at Credit Suisse. “What companies are going to say is they are facing shortages and rising input costs and other things which are constraints to their success. And then what you’re going to see is massive beats and the biggest portions coming from higher margins. They’re not going to try to reconcile it.”\nGolub expects companies to provide detail on rising costs and supply shortages but not as much information on how much they are raising prices or how broadly.\n“If you listen to what the CFOs are going to say, you’re going to think the earnings are terrible, but if you look at the results, they’re going to be magnificent,” he said.\nBut ultimately, it’s tech and growth that will prove to be the best performers profit-wise over the long haul. “Their own earnings revisions for themselves are still good. They’re not deteriorating. They’re solid. They’re not getting worse. They’re not accelerating in this ridiculous way. They’re on the same solid trajectory they’ve been on,” said Brian Rauscher, Fundstrat head of global portfolio strategy.\nRauscher expects the trend to revert back to tech as the better earnings performer in two quarters from now, when cyclical airline stocks or industrial stocks like Caterpillar will see earnings growth back in the single digits. “Tech will keep growing at 25%,” he said.\nHe says economic growth will have slowed to a more normalized and sustained pace. By then it will be more apparent whether inflation is temporary or not.\n“If they are unable to pass along price increases, it will hit the earnings,” he said.\nGolub points out that tech profits in last year’s second quarter actually increased by 3.3% from 2019, as cyclical earnings plunged 85% in the same period. The 2021 second quarter earnings growth estimate for tech is 34.2%, while some cyclical earnings will rebound by more than 570% just to get back to even with 2019.\n“It says one of these is a near term trade, and one of them is a long term trade,” said Golub. “Once the supply chain issues are gone, [cyclicals] are going to be unimpressive.”\nEven with the push pull of tech and growth versus cyclical trades, strategists say the earning season should be good for the stock market.\n“I think the numbers will be very good, and it’ll be supportive for markets,” said Rauscher. He said some investors may be concerned that a peak period of earnings this quarter will lead to a market decline but he doesn’t expect that to be the case.\n“Obviously, the numbers are going to be outsized because we have that weird comparison from last year. I think the important thing is going to be the return of guidance,” Rauscher said. Both he and Golub say they expect earnings to beat to the upside.\n“I think the analysts have underestimated the improvement in operating leverage,” Rauscher said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":21,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":158761096,"gmtCreate":1625182585315,"gmtModify":1703737718502,"author":{"id":"4087528962001780","authorId":"4087528962001780","name":"KAng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/92f5c062891e09cbfcef30cce8542973","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087528962001780","authorIdStr":"4087528962001780"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/158761096","repostId":"1175817125","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1175817125","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1625180880,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1175817125?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-02 07:08","market":"us","language":"en","title":"S&P 500 winning streak extends to sixth straight record close","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1175817125","media":"Reuters","summary":"NEW YORK - The S&P 500 reached its sixth consecutive all-time closing high on Thursday, as a new quarter and the second half of the year began with upbeat economic data and a broad-based rally.Investors now eye Friday’s much-anticipated employment report. The bellwether index is enjoying its longest winning streak since early February, and the last time it logged six straight all-time highs was last August.“Historical data shows if you have a strong first half, the second half of the year was ac","content":"
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The S&P 500 reached its sixth consecutive all-time closing high on Thursday, as a new quarter and the second half of the year began with upbeat economic data and a broad-based rally.
\n
Investors now eye Friday’s much-anticipated employment report.
\n
The bellwether index is enjoying its longest winning streak since early February, and the last time it logged six straight all-time highs was last August.
\n
“Historical data shows if you have a strong first half, the second half of the year was actually going even stronger,” said Ross Mayfield, investment strategy analyst with Baird Private Wealth.
\n
All three major U.S. stock indexes ended the session in positive territory, but a decline in tech shares - led by microchips - tempered the Nasdaq’s gain.
\n
The Philadelphia SE Semiconductor index slid 1.5%
\n
“For markets so far this year, boring is beautiful,” said David Carter, chief investment officer at Lenox Wealth Advisors in New York. “Economic growth has been strong enough to support prices and many asset classes are trading with historically low volatility.”
\n
“It feels like investors left for the Fourth of July weekend about three months ago.”
\n
The ongoing worker shortage, attributed to federal emergency unemployment benefits, a childcare shortage and lingering pandemic fears, was a common theme in the day’s economic data.
\n
Jobless claims continued their downward trajectory according to the Labor Department, touching their lowest level since the pandemic shutdown, and a report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas showed planned layoffs by U.S. firms were down 88% from last year, hitting a 21-year low.
\n
Activity at U.S. factories expanded at a slightly decelerated pace in June, according to the Institute for Supply Management’s (ISM) purchasing managers’ index (PMI), with the employment component dipping into contraction for the first time since November. The prices paid index, driven higher by the current demand/supply imbalance, soared to its highest level since 1979, according to ISM.\n“The employment and manufacturing data released today supported the idea of continued growth but at a decelerated rate,” Carter added.\nFriday’s hotly anticipated jobs report is expected to show payrolls growing by 700,000 and unemployment inching down to 5.7%. A robust upside surprise could lead the U.S. Federal Reserve to adjust its timetable for tapering its securities purchases and raising key interest rates.\n“Too-strong economic data could perversely be a bad thing for markets if it caused the Fed to raise rates faster than expected,” Carter said. “Weak employment data may actually be welcomed.”\nThe Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 131.02 points, or 0.38%, to 34,633.53, the S&P 500 gained 22.44 points, or 0.52%, to 4,319.94 and the Nasdaq Composite added 18.42 points, or 0.13%, to 14,522.38.\nOf the 11 major sectors in the S&P 500, consumer staples was the sole loser, shedding 0.3%.\nWalgreens Boots Alliance Inc dropped 7.4% after it said it expects to administer fewer COVID-19 vaccine shots in the fourth quarter.\nDidi Global Inc jumped 16.0%, on its second day of trading as a U.S.-listed company.\nMicron Technology Inc slid by 5.7% following a report that Texas Instruments would buy Micron’s Lehi, Utah, factory for $900 million.\nAdvancing issues outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE by a 1.78-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.32-to-1 ratio favored advancers.\nThe S&P 500 posted 36 new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 78 new highs and 30 new lows.\nVolume on U.S. exchanges was 9.53 billion shares, compared with the 10.9 billion average over the last 20 trading days.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":19,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9061537485,"gmtCreate":1651639697514,"gmtModify":1676534941365,"author":{"id":"4087528962001780","authorId":"4087528962001780","name":"KAng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/92f5c062891e09cbfcef30cce8542973","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087528962001780","authorIdStr":"4087528962001780"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9061537485","repostId":"2232920016","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":246,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":804257009,"gmtCreate":1627960083001,"gmtModify":1703498645134,"author":{"id":"4087528962001780","authorId":"4087528962001780","name":"KAng","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/92f5c062891e09cbfcef30cce8542973","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087528962001780","authorIdStr":"4087528962001780"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Up
