In comparison, the S&P 500 index is down 17%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index is down 24.7%.

Nvidia stock’s move on Thursday arrived after the chip maker disclosed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing late Wednesday that U.S. regulators are imposing “a new license requirement, effective immediately, for any future export to China (including Hong Kong) and Russia of the company’s A100 and forthcoming H100 integrated circuits. DGX or any other systems which incorporate A100 or H100 integrated circuits and the A100X are also covered by the new license requirement.”

Analysts already debated whether Nvidia was in the clear after the chip maker cut its outlook not for the first, not for the second, but for the third time in as many months. The previously little-known term quickly found its way into the American lexicon as the film made its debut on March 16, 1979, less than two weeks before the accident at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant near Middletown, Pa.

Rasgon acknowledged that the company is working on alternatives and has expressed seeking licenses for nonmilitary customers, but he said the timing and impact of these remedies, however, is unclear. The new cut is “not trivial but not an insurmountable blow either, though of course it is clearly an incremental negative as the business may be permanently impaired,” he said.

Rasgon also noted that some of Advanced Micro Devices Inc.’s GPUs would be affected by the ban as well. “However, AMD’s datacenter GPU sales are tiny, and they do not foresee any significant impact on their business at this time,” Rasgon said. He has outperform ratings on both stocks with a price target of $180 on Nvidia, and $135 on AMD.

The effects of the ban could last well beyond the current quarter, though. Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore said he expects regulators to take 18 to 24 months to determine the total scope of products affected by the ban, and Nvidia stands to lose at least $2 billion in 2023 revenue based on the known restrictions even with a forecast for weak data-center demand from China.

“We don’t know the broader ramifications of the restrictions, but the specific restrictions on A100 and H100 (basically training products introduced last 3 years) would say that this impacts new products,” wrote Moore, who has an in-line rating and a $182 price target on Nvidia. “We would guess that this is a restriction related to AI, so we wouldn’t expect ramifications for non-AI chips, but we don’t know if the restriction is just GPUs, vs. custom AI ASICs or specialty chips such as Intel’s Habana processors.”

The restrictions also could cause problems beyond Nvidia. Citi Research analyst Atif Malik wrote that “we see an escalation in U.S. semiconductor restrictions to China and increased volatility for the semiconductors and equipment group,” while taking Nvidia off the firm’s positive “catalyst watch,” which had just been instituted on Friday.

Mizuho analyst Jordan Klein said he senses that “negativity will spread broadly across Semis as to what restrictions could come next.”

This all comes ahead of Nvidia’s big GTC conference that begins Sept. 19, where the company is expected to unveil its next generation “Lovelace” chip architecture to replace the now two-year old “Ampere” architecture during a consumer tech slump. In fact, Nvidia’s recent $1.22 billion inventory charge went to clear out a lot of that old inventory before the “Lovelace” launch.

Nvidia stock was also the most actively traded on the S&P 500 index at a preliminary volume of 117.3 million shares, with shares of AMD a close second at more than 94.5 million shares. The 52-week average daily volume of Nvidia shares is 49 million, while AMD’s is about 83 million.

Of the 44 analysts who cover Nvidia, 35 have buy-grade ratings, eight have sell ratings, and one has a sell rating. Of those, six lowered their price targets on the stock, resulting in an average target price of $210, down from $237.50 from a month ago.

","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Nvidia’s \"China Syndrome\": Is the Stock Melting Down?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nNvidia’s \"China Syndrome\": Is the Stock Melting Down?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-09-02 08:03 GMT+8 MarketWatch\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Like the nuclear reactor in the 1979 film “The China Syndrome,” Nvidia Corp.’s share price and sales forecast have been melting down, and a sales ban of artificial-intelligence chips to China is the ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"NVDA":"英伟达"},"source_url":"https://www.marketwatch.com/story/nvidias-china-syndrome-is-the-stock-melting-down-11662064357?mod=home-page","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1128833508","content_text":"Like the nuclear reactor in the 1979 film “The China Syndrome,” Nvidia Corp.’s share price and sales forecast have been melting down, and a sales ban of artificial-intelligence chips to China is the latest to add to the temperature.Nvidia shares reached a new 52-week low Thursday, falling as much as 12% before closing with a 7.7% decline at $139.37, the seventh daily decline of more than 7% that the stock has suffered so far this year. In fact, Nvidia’s recent $1.22 billion inventory charge went to clear out a lot of that old inventory before the “Lovelace” launch.Nvidia stock was also the most actively traded on the S&P 500 index at a preliminary volume of 117.3 million shares, with shares of AMD a close second at more than 94.5 million shares. The 52-week average daily volume of Nvidia shares is 49 million, while AMD’s is about 83 million.Of the 44 analysts who cover Nvidia, 35 have buy-grade ratings, eight have sell ratings, and one has a sell rating. Of those, six lowered their price targets on the stock, resulting in an average target price of $210, down from $237.50 from a month ago.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":280,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9013064450,"gmtCreate":1648654654522,"gmtModify":1676534372746,"author":{"id":"4087778906088210","authorId":"4087778906088210","name":"AhEr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e495d25a03e89fe19847379e9016d931","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087778906088210","authorIdStr":"4087778906088210"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Grab Holdings(GRAB)$more people taking GrabCar but less people use GrabFood so...?","listText":"$Grab Holdings(GRAB)$more people taking GrabCar but less people use GrabFood so...?","text":"$Grab Holdings(GRAB)$more people taking GrabCar but less people use GrabFood so...?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9013064450","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":471,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9019377028,"gmtCreate":1648546919991,"gmtModify":1676534352419,"author":{"id":"4087778906088210","authorId":"4087778906088210","name":"AhEr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e495d25a03e89fe19847379e9016d931","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087778906088210","authorIdStr":"4087778906088210"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Sea Ltd(SE)$Focus on what you are good at and you'll be fine. The U.S. tech giant also reduced orders for its AirPods earphones by more than 10 million units for all of 2022, as the company predicted lukewarm demand and wanted to reduce the level of inventories.

The company shipped about 76.8 million units of AirPods in 2021, Counterpoint Research data showed, but people with knowledge of the situation said overall shipments for 2022 could likely see a decline.

Apple also asked suppliers to make a couple of million fewer units of the entire iPhone 13 range than previously planned, but said this adjustment was based on seasonal demand.

These moves by the world's most powerful chip and component procurer underline the mounting pressure on the tech industry following the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war, which has compounded the yearslong chip shortage that has hit a string of industries from smartphones to PCs to automobiles.

Numerous governments, from the U.S. and the EU to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, have imposed economic sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, and the supply chain has been rocked by turmoil in the oil, energy and raw materials markets. The looming inflation risks further adding to people's living costs and creates concerns over demand for consumer electronics products.

Apple halted its production sales in Russia soon after the unexpected outbreak of the Ukraine war. It is the No. 5 PC maker in the Russian market.

It is not surprising that the company has turned conservative for the June quarter, an executive at an Apple supplier told Nikkei Asia. The International Monetary Fund is to trim its global economic growth forecast for 2022 in April due to the Ukraine turmoil and declining risks in a number of countries. The IMF last estimated 4.4% global economic growth this year. China, the world's second-largest economy, also set a growth target of 5.5% this year, the mildest over the past 30 years.

Brady Wang, a tech analyst with Counterpoint Research, said the overall smartphone market has seen unreasonably high levels of inventory and will eventually undergo a correction.

"We see the end demand for smartphones in China is quite weak. ... In addition, the Russia-Ukraine war will likely have spillover effects to the whole European market and on consumer demand," Wang told Nikkei Asia. S&P 500 ETFs
\n
An S&P 500 ETF is a group of stocks that is designed to mirror the performance of the S&P 500 index itself. That means each of these funds contains around 500 stocks from the largest U.S.-based companies.
\n
This type of investment is one of the more stable and lower-risk options. While the S&P 500 does experience short-term volatility, it's earned an average rate of return of around 10% per year since its inception. In other words, the highs and lows each year average out to around 10% annually over time.
\n
These funds are also very likely to recover from market crashes. The S&P 500 has endured countless corrections and crashes over the years, but it's survived each and every one so far. Although there are never any guarantees in investing, there's a very good chance it will recover from any future crashes as well.
\n
Where to get started: There are many S&P 500 ETFs to choose from, and they're all similar. Some of the best options include:
\n
\n
Vanguard S&P 500 ETF
\n
iShares Core S&P 500 ETF
\n
S&P500 ETF
\n
\n
2. Growth ETFs
\n
A growth ETF is a fund that contains stocks with higher-than-average growth rates. The advantage of this type of investment is that you may earn higher returns than you would with a broad-market fund like an S&P 500 ETF.
\n
The downside, though, is that growth ETFs can be on the riskier side. High-growth stocks can be more volatile than their more established counterparts, so you may see more ups and downs with this type of fund than you would with an S&P 500 ETF.
\n
That said, many growth ETFs include companies that have experienced phenomenal growth but are also strong businesses, such as Amazon.com, Apple, and Microsoft. These organizations are still subject to volatility in the short term, but it's very likely they'll experience long-term growth.
\n
Where to get started: It's important to choose carefully when investing in a growth ETF, because not all funds are created equal. Some funds only contain smaller organizations from niche industries, for example, which poses more risk than a fund that includes large corporations from a variety of industries. A few of the stronger growth ETFs include:
\n
\n
Vanguard Growth Index Fund ETF Shares
\n
iShares Russell 2000 Growth ETF
\n
NASDAQ-100 Index ETF
\n
\n
3. Dividend ETFs
\n
A dividend ETF is a collection of stocks that will actually pay you to own them. Some companies pay a portion of their profits back to shareholders each quarter or year, which is called a dividend. By investing in a dividend ETF, you'll earn quarterly or annual dividend payments in addition to the fund's normal earnings.
\n
By investing consistently over time, you could build a source of passive income with dividend ETFs. Most funds also offer the opportunity to reinvest your dividends and buy more shares of that particular ETF. By reinvesting, you can gradually buy more shares without having to pay more money out of pocket. And the more shares you own, the more you'll receive in dividends.
\n
Where to get started: As with growth ETFs, all dividend ETFs are different and offer varying levels of risk and reward. Some of the most popular funds include:
\n
\n
Vanguard Dividend Appreciation Index Fund ETF Shares
\n
iShares Core High Dividend ETF
\n
Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF
\n
\n
Choosing the right investments isn't as challenging as it may seem. (Source photos by Reuters)

TAIPEI -- Apple plans to make about 20% fewer iPhone SEs next quarter than originally planned, in one of the first signs that the Ukraine war and looming inflation have started to dent consumer electronics demand, sources briefed on the matter told Nikkei Asia.

Apple launched the iPhone SE as its first 5G-capable budget phone less than three weeks ago but is now telling multiple suppliers that it aims to lower production orders by about 2 million to 3 million units for the quarter, citing weaker-than-expected demand, four people told Nikkei Asia. The U.S. tech giant also reduced orders for its AirPods earphones by more than 10 million units for all of 2022, as the company predicted lukewarm demand and wanted to reduce the level of inventories.

The Cupertino, California-based tech giant is the No. 3 smartphone maker in Russia, where sales of around 5 million iPhones gave it a 16% market share last year, data from IDC showed. It is the No. 5 PC maker in the Russian market.

It is not surprising that the company has turned conservative for the June quarter, an executive at an Apple supplier told Nikkei Asia. "The war has affected spending at the European markets. ... It is understandable [consumers will] save the money for food and for heating."

The move by Apple, the leader in the consumer electronics industry, to lower its production volume for the newly introduced iPhone could spark chain effects on other consumer electronics makers to trim production orders and digest their inventories amid the uncertain market.

Multiple global institutions have lowered their forecasts of worldwide economic growth for this year. The International Monetary Fund is to trim its global economic growth forecast for 2022 in April due to the Ukraine turmoil and declining risks in a number of countries. The IMF last estimated 4.4% global economic growth this year. (Source photos by Reuters)TAIPEI -- Apple plans to make about 20% fewer iPhone SEs next quarter than originally planned, in one of the first signs that the Ukraine war and looming inflation have started to dent consumer electronics demand, sources briefed on the matter told Nikkei Asia.Apple launched the iPhone SE as its first 5G-capable budget phone less than three weeks ago but is now telling multiple suppliers that it aims to lower production orders by about 2 million to 3 million units for the quarter, citing weaker-than-expected demand, four people told Nikkei Asia. The U.S. tech giant also reduced orders for its AirPods earphones by more than 10 million units for all of 2022, as the company predicted lukewarm demand and wanted to reduce the level of inventories. The company shipped about 76.8 million units of AirPods in 2021, Counterpoint Research data showed, but people with knowledge of the situation said overall shipments for 2022 could likely see a decline.Apple also asked suppliers to make a couple of million fewer units of the entire iPhone 13 range than previously planned, but said this adjustment was based on seasonal demand. These moves by the world's most powerful chip and component procurer underline the mounting pressure on the tech industry following the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war, which has compounded the yearslong chip shortage that has hit a string of industries from smartphones to PCs to automobiles.Numerous governments, from the U.S. and the EU to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, have imposed economic sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, and the supply chain has been rocked by turmoil in the oil, energy and raw materials markets. The looming inflation risks further adding to people's living costs and creates concerns over demand for consumer electronics products.Apple halted its production sales in Russia soon after the unexpected outbreak of the Ukraine war. \"The war has affected spending at the European markets. ... It is understandable [consumers will] save the money for food and for heating.\"The move by Apple, the leader in the consumer electronics industry, to lower its production volume for the newly introduced iPhone could spark chain effects on other consumer electronics makers to trim production orders and digest their inventories amid the uncertain market.Multiple global institutions have lowered their forecasts of worldwide economic growth for this year. The International Monetary Fund is to trim its global economic growth forecast for 2022 in April due to the Ukraine turmoil and declining risks in a number of countries. The IMF last estimated 4.4% global economic growth this year. China, the world's second-largest economy, also set a growth target of 5.5% this year, the mildest over the past 30 years.Brady Wang, a tech analyst with Counterpoint Research, said the overall smartphone market has seen unreasonably high levels of inventory and will eventually undergo a correction.\"We see the end demand for smartphones in China is quite weak. ... In addition, the Russia-Ukraine war will likely have spillover effects to the whole European market and on consumer demand,\" Wang told Nikkei Asia. Counterpoint has revised down its view for the smartphone market for 2022 to some 5% of growth, saying the ongoing Ukraine war could bring uncertainties.Apple declined to comment for this story.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":368,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":869734515,"gmtCreate":1632321271337,"gmtModify":1676530752467,"author":{"id":"4087778906088210","authorId":"4087778906088210","name":"AhEr","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e495d25a03e89fe19847379e9016d931","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4087778906088210","idStr":"4087778906088210"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I will be one of them","listText":"I will be one of them","text":"I will be one of them","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/869734515","repostId":"1143821004","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1143821004","pubTimestamp":1632320072,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1143821004?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-09-22 22:14","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple sees 5M iPhone 13 pre-orders in China--report","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1143821004","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"Barely $one$ week after unveiling the iPhone 13, $Apple$ is already seeing strong initial demand for its flagship product coming out of China.TheSouth China Morning $Post$reported Wednesday that approximately 5 million pre-orders of the iPhone 13 have been made in the eight days since Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook showed of the smartphone.
