Costco</h2>\n<p><b>Costco </b>(NASDAQ:COST) is known for selling oversized quantities in its large warehouses. But the experience is much more. The company offers high-quality merchandise and services to members at attractive prices. The approach continues to retain and attract members, who don't seem to mind paying an annual fee for the right to access Costco warehouses.</p>\n<p>Its renewal rate continues to hover around 90% while also continually adding new members. Costco ended last year with 58.1 million paying members, up from 47.6 million in fiscal 2016. The company's year ends around the end of August. By the end of the third quarter, the number grew to 60.6 million.</p>\n<p>But Costco isn't merely adding members without regard for the bottom line. Its fiscal 2020 diluted earnings per share were $9.02, 69% higher than fiscal 2016's figure. This year was more of the same, with earnings coming in at $7.51 a diluted share for the first nine months compared to last year's $5.89.</p>\n<p>While there's no guarantee the company will keep paying them, Costco has gotten into the habit of declaring large special dividends every two to three years. The last <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> was in December when it paid $10.</p>\n<p>Its dividend yield is 0.7%, which is lower than the <b>S&amp;P 500</b>'s 1.3%, but this doesn't count the special payments. Additionally, Costco has raised its payouts annually since its first dividend in 2004. This includes boosting May's payment by 13% to $0.79.</p>\n<h2>2. Walmart</h2>\n<p><b>Walmart </b>(NYSE:WMT) has a well-earned reputation for charging low prices. In fact, competitors find it difficult to undercut what the company charges for items. That's because the mantra of keeping costs down to pass these savings along to customers is ingrained in its culture. After all, it opened its first discount store almost 60 years ago.</p>\n<p>Add in that Walmart is constantly innovating, opened its first e-commerce site more than 20 years ago, and continues to push innovation that focuses on customer convenience and faster delivery. Last year, in a move to counter Amazon, it launched Walmart+. This is its subscription program, which includes shipping, gasoline discounts, and a faster checkout process at the stores.</p>\n<p>Management expects to spend $14 billion on capital expenditures this year, a 40% increase, focusing on items like the supply chains, automation, and customer-facing initiatives. This should allow Walmart to not only remain relevant in the coming years, but to compete with online rivals.</p>\n<p>It is also keeping an eye on profits while looking toward the future. Last year's adjusted operating income rose by over 9% to $23.4 billion. This year, management expects a high-single-digit percentage increase, revising its estimate from its prior flattish expectation.</p>\n<p>In terms of dividends, the board of directors has increased them annually since its first payment in 1974, making Walmart a Dividend Aristocrat. The company modestly increased dividends this year by a penny to $0.55 a quarter. The dividend yield is 1.5%. It is good to know that Walmart is investing in the future while continuing to raise dividends.</p>\n<p>Retail is a competitive business, but Costco and Walmart have positioned themselves well to continue succeeding by focusing on their customers' wants and needs. Then, COVID-19 struck, dealing devastating effects to people's health and the economy.\nWhile few could have predicted a global pandemic, retailers that fail to adapt to a changing climate or consumer preferences run into trouble. There have been well-known and once popular retailers such as Sears Holdings, J.C. Penney, Neiman Marcus, and Toys R Us that have filed bankruptcy in recent years.\nThe industry continues to undergo a dramatic transformation as more people shop online, and the threat of Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) hangs over participants. Fortunately, you can find retailers that continue to confront whatever comes their way through simple businesses and strong execution.\nWith these two stocks, you can remain confident that they will likely not only survive but thrive in the next 10 years, no matter what comes their way.\n1. Costco\nCostco (NASDAQ:COST) is known for selling oversized quantities in its large warehouses. But the experience is much more. The company offers high-quality merchandise and services to members at attractive prices. The approach continues to retain and attract members, who don't seem to mind paying an annual fee for the right to access Costco warehouses.\nIts renewal rate continues to hover around 90% while also continually adding new members. Costco ended last year with 58.1 million paying members, up from 47.6 million in fiscal 2016. The company's year ends around the end of August. By the end of the third quarter, the number grew to 60.6 million.\nBut Costco isn't merely adding members without regard for the bottom line. Its fiscal 2020 diluted earnings per share were $9.02, 69% higher than fiscal 2016's figure. This year was more of the same, with earnings coming in at $7.51 a diluted share for the first nine months compared to last year's $5.89.\nWhile there's no guarantee the company will keep paying them, Costco has gotten into the habit of declaring large special dividends every two to three years. The last one was in December when it paid $10.\nIts dividend yield is 0.7%, which is lower than the S&P 500's 1.3%, but this doesn't count the special payments. Additionally, Costco has raised its payouts annually since its first dividend in 2004. This includes boosting May's payment by 13% to $0.79.\n2. Walmart\nWalmart (NYSE:WMT) has a well-earned reputation for charging low prices. In fact, competitors find it difficult to undercut what the company charges for items. That's because the mantra of keeping costs down to pass these savings along to customers is ingrained in its culture. After all, it opened its first discount store almost 60 years ago.\nAdd in that Walmart is constantly innovating, opened its first e-commerce site more than 20 years ago, and continues to push innovation that focuses on customer convenience and faster delivery. Last year, in a move to counter Amazon, it launched Walmart+. This is its subscription program, which includes shipping, gasoline discounts, and a faster checkout process at the stores.\nManagement expects to spend $14 billion on capital expenditures this year, a 40% increase, focusing on items like the supply chains, automation, and customer-facing initiatives. This should allow Walmart to not only remain relevant in the coming years, but to compete with online rivals.\nIt is also keeping an eye on profits while looking toward the future. Last year's adjusted operating income rose by over 9% to $23.4 billion. This year, management expects a high-single-digit percentage increase, revising its estimate from its prior flattish expectation.\nIn terms of dividends, the board of directors has increased them annually since its first payment in 1974, making Walmart a Dividend Aristocrat. The company modestly increased dividends this year by a penny to $0.55 a quarter. The dividend yield is 1.5%. It is good to know that Walmart is investing in the future while continuing to raise dividends.\nRetail is a competitive business, but Costco and Walmart have positioned themselves well to continue succeeding by focusing on their customers' wants and needs. These advantages mean that the company will remain superior in the near term when it comes to profitability and diversity within the EV industry and can best utilize the rapid growth rate the entire industry is expecting.</p>\n<p>The Long-Term Headwinds Haven't Changed</p>\n<p>As I've been highlighting for several months now,Tesla's long-term prospects have dimmedsince other automobile companies like Ford and General Motors (GM) in the United States, NIO (NIO) and others in the Asia-Pacific region and other European and South Korean automobile manufacturers moved up their electrification process timelines. The main reason for this is that these companies have very solid brand recognition, and individuals who have owned these models for years or decades have the option to opt for an electric version of those; they choose those over trying out a new untested model a majority of the time.</p>\n<p>With companies like Ford introducing the all-electric F-150 and others, it's unclear how Tesla can maintain this high growth rate beyond 2024 as these models are expected to hit the streets and begin capturing back market share away from Tesla and other current models. Other factors like Tesla opening up their charging station network to all EV models, as well as a massive capital injection into EV charging stations in the most recent infrastructure spending bill in the United States, will surely help Tesla's income when it charges for the use, but it also helps other companies overcome the main hurdle of widespread adoption - clearing a pathway for more and more EV models to emerge.</p>\n<p>The Short-Term Tailwinds Are Emerging</p>\n<p>Tesla has several near-term tailwinds which will keep way ahead of any competition for the next 12 to 24 months. These mostly all boil down to profitability but also focus on various business model advantages.</p>\n<p>1. A positive profit margin: While other companies are just now beginning to invest in transforming their manufacturing facilities from fossil fuel intake engines to electric vehicle production, Tesla has done this and way more efficiently. Since they've built these from scratch, they've mostly automated the process and thus enjoy a much higher profit margin. Other companies won't see a profit per vehicle for years to come.</p>\n<p>2. Surging battery manufacturing: Although other companies have a mixed position on whether to manufacture their own batteries or set up joint ventures with existing companies, Tesla has been churning out batteries for years and have, as similar with the vehicle manufacturing process, nearly fully automated the process to maximize profits per unit.</p>\n<p>3. International manufacturing: Other companies, thus far, have focused on restructuring and transforming current assembly plants in the United States and will likely take several more years before they do so for other international facilities, which means they will need to spend a fortune shipping these new vehicles around the world to the EMEA and the Asia-Pacific. Tesla, on the other hand, has manufacturing facilities in the United States and in China and is set to open their plant in Germany as well as being in final development stages of an India plant, which will allow them to access a much larger market.</p>\n<p>4. Charging stations advantage: Although the new infrastructure bill in the United States, as well as massive investments in countries like Japan and China, are certain to put in hundreds of thousands of new EV charging stations across the globe, this will take time. So far, only Tesla has a real robust charging network across the world. A recent development, which does have negative elements to it as mentioned earlier, has a positive near term one - they will be raking in net profits from allowing other electric vehicles to charge on their network. This means that they'll likely be profiting from each vehicle their competitors churn out, at least until the scaling up of non-Tesla charging stations takes place.</p>\n<p>5. \"Other Business\" growth rate: While other automobile companies are still spending hand over fist on their other models and products, Tesla enjoys being only in high-growth industries like SolarCity's solar panels and battery sales. As I'll expand on in the next segment, they also don't have near-term or long-term financial obligations from these \"other business\" segments as establishment automobile companies have.</p>\n<p>Balance Sheet Advantages</p>\n<p>Although some elements of their balance sheet advantage are set to help them in the long run as well, they're mostly advantages for the short term since once these other companies begin making a profit from their EV sales - a lot of this will be reversed.</p>\n<p>Tesla's main advantage, as mentioned earlier, is that they're actually raking in cash from each car they sell, allowing them to use that cash to continue and set up more manufacturing facilities and invest in battery technology, solar technology and production increases. This is contrary to other automobile companies which have high financial obligations to their other business segments like pensions and leases. This will further aid the company's overall profit margin, while they don't struggle with such obligations.</p>\n<p>These other companies will need to use profits and cash from their existing legacy business segments to pay for their losses on each vehicle they produce, hurting their overall valuation moving forward.</p>\n<p>Although Tesla has $6.9 billion inlong-term debt, a factor which kept many investors on the sidelines as debt racked up, they currently hold just under $16.3 billion in cash and equivalents, making their net debt position negative. They've been using the cash to pay down their debt as well,reducing their interest expense burdenfrom almost $800 million in 2020 to just over $500 million in 2021. Tesla paid back $15 billion in debt in 2021 for a net debt reduction of $6 billion. There's very little doubt that other automobile companies will be forced to take on more debt to finance increased production and in this raising rate environment, that can snowball.</p>\n<p>Tesla is set to seecash flowof around $10 billion annually whereas a company like Ford has been fluctuating between a net positive and negative cash flow status for the past few years, and that's not expected to change through 2025 as they continue to increase investments in the electrification of their vehicles.</p>\n<p>What About Current Valuation</p>\n<p>Analystscurrently expect the company to report EPS of $5.38 for 2021 and grow at a fast pace to reach EPS of $10.33 for 2024. As I mentioned in my earlier article, I believe that, given comparison with other major automobile companies, the company is fairly valued at around 75x forward earnings.</p>\n<p>I do, however, believe that some of the current competition expectations are overblown for the near term, as I've been mentioning throughout the entire article. Therefore, I do believe that Tesla will outperform current expectations at least through 2023. This means that a 75x forward earnings multiple is the ground base for appropriate valuation, I believe.</p>\n<p>This presents the following fair value, with the implied increase potential:</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/052968e079d7fe8419e4790de451c9fd\" tg-width=\"620\" tg-height=\"201\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\">As you can see, this means that Tesla is almost 40% overvalued relative to earnings expectations, even if they overcome them by as much as 20%. However, given that these expectations are likely to be beaten, I don't believe that shorting the company is a good idea, but one thing that is worth looking out for is a general market correction.</p>\n<p>The Biggest Risk Of Owning Tesla</p>\n<p>The biggest risk with owning Tesla right now is that, in a general market correction, which can happen at any moment as the post-pandemic trade is winding down, companies with lofty expectations tend to fall the most as fair value is sought beyond what their potential is way down the line.</p>\n<p>I don't believe that shorting Tesla is the right approach, even though my disclosures down below and in previous article state that I am, given general market exposure. I am short simply because I don't believe that much upwards potential is there, whilst downward potential in a market correction is vast. So, given that I am mostly long, this short is a general portfolio hedge while I reduce positions in case of a correction.</p>\n<p>In Conclusion</p>\n<p>Tesla has several positive catalysts which should keep them on top of the EV industry growth roster for the next 24 to 36 months, while other companies struggle to make even a single penny on their new vehicles. These are set, I believe, to allow them to beat earnings expectations for that time period.</p>\n<p>Even so, their long-term competitive pressures remain high and as I stated in my previous article - their long-term growth prospects will continue to dim as time moves on.</p>\n<p>Even with these positive near-term advantages, I still believe that the company is overvalued by as much as 40%, and although I do not favor shorting the company for this overvaluation, I remain slightly bearish on their long-term prospects and neutral to slightly bullish on their near-term one.</p>","source":"seekingalpha","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; They've been using the cash to pay down their debt as well,reducing their interest expense burdenfrom almost $800 million in 2020 to just over $500 million in 2021. Tesla paid back $15 billion in debt in 2021 for a net debt reduction of $6 billion. There's very little doubt that other automobile companies will be forced to take on more debt to finance increased production and in this raising rate environment, that can snowball.\nTesla is set to seecash flowof around $10 billion annually whereas a company like Ford has been fluctuating between a net positive and negative cash flow status for the past few years, and that's not expected to change through 2025 as they continue to increase investments in the electrification of their vehicles.\nWhat About Current Valuation\nAnalystscurrently expect the company to report EPS of $5.38 for 2021 and grow at a fast pace to reach EPS of $10.33 for 2024. As I mentioned in my earlier article, I believe that, given comparison with other major automobile companies, the company is fairly valued at around 75x forward earnings.\nI do, however, believe that some of the current competition expectations are overblown for the near term, as I've been mentioning throughout the entire article. Therefore, I do believe that Tesla will outperform current expectations at least through 2023. This means that a 75x forward earnings multiple is the ground base for appropriate valuation, I believe.\nThis presents the following fair value, with the implied increase potential:\nAs you can see, this means that Tesla is almost 40% overvalued relative to earnings expectations, even if they overcome them by as much as 20%. However, given that these expectations are likely to be beaten, I don't believe that shorting the company is a good idea, but one thing that is worth looking out for is a general market correction.\nThe Biggest Risk Of Owning Tesla\nThe biggest risk with owning Tesla right now is that, in a general market correction, which can happen at any moment as the post-pandemic trade is winding down, companies with lofty expectations tend to fall the most as fair value is sought beyond what their potential is way down the line.\nI don't believe that shorting Tesla is the right approach, even though my disclosures down below and in previous article state that I am, given general market exposure. I am short simply because I don't believe that much upwards potential is there, whilst downward potential in a market correction is vast. So, given that I am mostly long, this short is a general portfolio hedge while I reduce positions in case of a correction.\nIn Conclusion\nTesla has several positive catalysts which should keep them on top of the EV industry growth roster for the next 24 to 36 months, while other companies struggle to make even a single penny on their new vehicles. The rout comes as the company issued a first-half profit warning on Sunday (July 25), citing higher expenses due to new restaurant openings and negative impact from the Covid-19 pandemic.\nThis week's losses have exacerbated a sell-off in Haidilao, best known for its string of Chinese spicy soup restaurants. Beating analyst estimates is important, almost required, for any stock to remain stable in post-earnings trading. That’s true for Tesla as well.</p>\n<p>There will be a lot of moving parts, however, even more than usual for the world’s most valuable&nbsp;car company&nbsp;and its iconoclast CEO&nbsp;Elon Musk.</p>\n<p>Factors that will contribute to bottom-line earnings include the global&nbsp;semiconductor&nbsp;shortage,vehicle pricing, vehicle gross profit margins, and the level of profitability in Tesla’s battery storage business. In the end, however, investors will want to see a record in operating profits—no matter how it happens. That’s what could break shares out of their recent range.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d908f359ce3333ed256684e007ff74d0\" tg-width=\"871\" tg-height=\"580\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"></p>\n<p>Tesla reported more than $800 million in operating profits in the 2020 third quarter, and the stock more than doubled to around $860 in the three-month span that followed. But since operating profit growth largely paused in the subsequent quarters, shares have traded down from roughly $860 to around $640 recently. Profit stagnation has meant stock stagnation, too.</p>\n<p>The good news for Tesla bulls is Wall Street is projecting a fresh record: Operating profit is expected to be $835 million for the second quarter, driven by strong deliveries. The 2021 second quarter marked the first time Tesla delivered&nbsp;more than 200,000&nbsp;vehicles in a single quarter.</p>\n<p>After earnings are digested, there should be endless arguments among bulls and bears about the quality of earnings. For instance, one way Tesla generates sales is by selling regulatory credits—which it earns by producing more than its fair share of electric vehicles. The company generated $518 million in first-quarter credit sales, which helped Tesla&nbsp;beat earnings&nbsp;estimates. There is always debate about what is the “normal” amount of credit sales and when will those sales dry up. Eventually, both the bulls and bears expect other auto makers to sell their own EVs, cutting off that source of revenue for Tesla.</p>\n<p>There is also the issue&nbsp;of Bitcoin. Tesla recognized a small gain on its Bitcoin holdings in the first quarter, but the cryptocurrency’s prices have fallen by roughly half since their April peak. That means there is a chance of a small loss. How investors react is anyone’s guess, but don’t expect Tesla to sell out of its Bitcoin position. Musk continues to indicate his company will transact in the cryptocurrency when Bitcoin mining uses more sustainable power.</p>\n<p>Investors will also want to know when Tesla’s new Germany plant and Austin, Texas facility will start delivering cars. The Austin plant will build Tesla’s&nbsp;Cybertruck. There will also likely be questions about advances in Tesla’s driver-assistance functions—the company recently started selling its driver-assistance software&nbsp;as a subscription—and how much money the company could make from its charging network. Musk tweeted this week Tesla would open its&nbsp;charging network&nbsp;to other EVs down the road.</p>\n<p>Those topics and more should be discussed on the earnings&nbsp;conference call&nbsp;scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET on Monday. Get ready for a very complicated report.\nThe EV pioneer will report after the close of trading on Monday, July 26. Wall Street is looking for Tesla (ticker: TSLA) to report about 94 cents in per-share earnings from $11.5 billion in sales, according to FactSet. Beating analyst estimates is important, almost required, for any stock to remain stable in post-earnings trading. That’s true for Tesla as well.\nThere will be a lot of moving parts, however, even more than usual for the world’s most valuable car company and its iconoclast CEO Elon Musk.\nFactors that will contribute to bottom-line earnings include the global semiconductor shortage,vehicle pricing, vehicle gross profit margins, and the level of profitability in Tesla’s battery storage business. In the end, however, investors will want to see a record in operating profits—no matter how it happens. That’s what could break shares out of their recent range.\n\nTesla reported more than $800 million in operating profits in the 2020 third quarter, and the stock more than doubled to around $860 in the three-month span that followed. But since operating profit growth largely paused in the subsequent quarters, shares have traded down from roughly $860 to around $640 recently. Profit stagnation has meant stock stagnation, too.\nThe good news for Tesla bulls is Wall Street is projecting a fresh record: Operating profit is expected to be $835 million for the second quarter, driven by strong deliveries. The 2021 second quarter marked the first time Tesla delivered more than 200,000 vehicles in a single quarter.\nAfter earnings are digested, there should be endless arguments among bulls and bears about the quality of earnings. For instance, one way Tesla generates sales is by selling regulatory credits—which it earns by producing more than its fair share of electric vehicles. The company generated $518 million in first-quarter credit sales, which helped Tesla beat earnings estimates. There is always debate about what is the “normal” amount of credit sales and when will those sales dry up. Eventually, both the bulls and bears expect other auto makers to sell their own EVs, cutting off that source of revenue for Tesla.\nThere is also the issue of Bitcoin. Tesla recognized a small gain on its Bitcoin holdings in the first quarter, but the cryptocurrency’s prices have fallen by roughly half since their April peak. That means there is a chance of a small loss. How investors react is anyone’s guess, but don’t expect Tesla to sell out of its Bitcoin position. Musk continues to indicate his company will transact in the cryptocurrency when Bitcoin mining uses more sustainable power.\nInvestors will also want to know when Tesla’s new Germany plant and Austin, Texas facility will start delivering cars. The Austin plant will build Tesla’s Cybertruck. There will also likely be questions about advances in Tesla’s driver-assistance functions—the company recently started selling its driver-assistance software as a subscription—and how much money the company could make from its charging network. Musk tweeted this week Tesla would open its charging network to other EVs down the road.\nThose topics and more should be discussed on the earnings conference call scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET on Monday. Year to date, Tesla stock is down roughly 9%, trailing behind comparable 17% and 15% respective gains of the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average.Still, Tesla shares have had a strong run, up Under Armour reported quarterly earnings of 24 cents per share, compared to a consensus estimate of 6 cents a share.</p>\n<p><b>2)&nbsp;Translate Bio(TBIO)</b> – French drugmakerSanofi(SNY) agreed to buy the U.S.-based biotech company for $3.2 billion, or $38 per share in cash. Translate Bio specializes in mRNA technology, the type that was used to produce thePfizerandModernaCovid-19 vaccines. Translate Bio shares soared 29.6% in premarket trading.</p>\n<p><b>3)&nbsp;Clorox(CLX) </b>– Clorox tumbled 8.6% in premarket action after the household products maker missed top and bottom line estimates for its latest quarter. Clorox’s sales fell from a year ago, when consumers stocked up on its products amid the surging pandemic.</p>\n<p><b>4)&nbsp;Eli Lilly(LLY) </b>– The drugmaker’s shares lost 1.7% in premarket trading, after falling 2 cents a share shy of estimates, with quarterly earnings of $1.87 per share. Revenue beat forecasts, but Lilly’s overall results were impacted by weaker sales of Covid-19 therapies as more Americans got vaccinated.</p>\n<p><b>5)&nbsp;<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MAR\">Marriott</a>(MAR)</b> – The hotel operator’s stock gained 1.8% in premarket trading after it reported quarterly earnings of 79 cents per share, compared to a 45 cents a share consensus estimate. Revenue more than doubled from a year ago thanks to a rebound in travel demand, though it did fall slightly short of Wall Street forecasts.</p>\n<p><b>6)&nbsp;<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TTWO\">Take-Two</a> Interactive(TTWO)</b> – Take-<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TWOA.U\">Two</a> lost 4.3% premarket trading after issuing a weaker-than-expected outlook and announcing delays in new releases for some of its games. The video game producer beat estimates by 12 cents a share, with quarterly profit of $1.01 per share. Take-<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TWOA\">Two</a>’s revenue also topped Wall Street forecasts.</p>\n<p><b>7)&nbsp;BP(BP)</b> – BP surged 6.3% in premarket trading after it reported better-than-expected quarterly profit and revenue, thanks to higher oil and gas prices. The energy producer also announced a 4% dividend hike and a boost to its share buyback program.</p>\n<p><b>8)&nbsp;Stellantis(STLA) </b>– Stellantis raised its full-year profit margin outlook after the automaker reported strong first-half financial results, boosted by record margins in North America. The upbeat results came despite the impact of the global chip shortage which cut production by 700,000 vehicles. The stock rallied 5.3% in the premarket.</p>\n<p><b>9)&nbsp;<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MU\">Micron Technology</a>(MU)</b> – Micron instituted its first-ever dividend, with the chip maker planning to pay 10 cents per share in cash payable on October 18. Micron also said it had updated its share buyback policy to buy more when prices are low and fewer when prices are high. Micron shares gained 1.9% in the premarket.</p>\n<p><b>10)&nbsp;<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/SPG\">Simon Property</a> Group(SPG)</b> – Simon Property shares rose 2.8% in premarket trading after it said sales at its shopping centers returned to pre-pandemic levels in June. The largest U.S. mall owner is hoping the improved results encourage retailers to sign new leases and help it fill space vacated during the pandemic.</p>\n<p><b>11)&nbsp;<a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/SEDG\">SolarEdge</a> Technologies(SEDG) </b>– SolarEdge reported better-than-expected earnings and revenue for its latest quarter, with the solar energy company also providing an upbeat current-quarter forecast. SolarEdge surged 11.4% in the premarket.</p>\n<p><b>12)&nbsp;Reynolds Consumer Products(REYN)</b> – Reynolds beat estimates by a penny a share, with quarterly earnings of 39 cents per share. Revenue fell short of Street forecasts, however. The maker of products like Hefty garbage bags and Reynolds Wrap said it was pleased with the results in the face of higher input costs supply chain issues. Reynolds lost 3.6% in premarket action.</p>\n<p><b>In rates,</b> treasuries drifted lower over early European session, tracking losses in bunds and gilts. The 10-year U.S. Treasury&nbsp;yield&nbsp;edged around 2bps higher after falling as low as 1.15%; the move steepened 2s10s, 5s30s by 1bp each. Higher S&amp;P futures also added pressure on rising yields, following gains across European stocks amid positive earnings results. Germany’s 10-year yield fell to its lowest since early February at -0.486%. It was last up less than a basis point at -0.47%. Its 30-year yield, which turned negative and sent the whole German yield curve into negative territory on Monday, was hovering around 0%.</p>\n<p>“There is some definite downside bias in the dollar now,” said Vasileios Gkionakis, Global Head of FX Strategy at fund manager Lombard Odier in Switzerland. “You are starting to a see a rotation of growth away from the U.S.”</p>\n<p>According to strategists the months-long advance in Treasuries which saw 10Y real yields drop to fresh record lows on Monday, points to worries that a weaker period lies ahead for the economic reopening from the health crisis, though second-quarter corporate earnings have been robust for the most part. Traders are awaiting key U.S. jobs data this week to gauge the recovery and monitoring the impact of price pressures sparked by pandemic-related disruption and bottlenecks.</p>\n<p>“I don’t think the market is concerned about delta as much as it’s concerned about how it impacts inflation,”&nbsp;Shana Sissel, Spotlight Asset Group chief investment officer, said on Bloomberg Television, referring to the coronavirus variant. “The longer we have delta spread globally, the longer the supply chain disruptions will continue.”</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, on the policy front, the tapering debate continues. Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller&nbsp;said&nbsp;he could back a tapering announcement by September, if the next two monthly U.S. employment reports show continued gains.</p>\n<p><b>In FX, </b>the Norwegian krone and <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NGD\">New</a> Zealand’s dollar led an advance against the greenback; the Canadian dollar retreated, underperforming its peers. The euro eked out an advance to a session high of 1.1885 per dollar; the pound climbed back above $1.39 and gilts halted a three-day gain as caution reigns ahead of Bank of England’s meeting on Thursday.<b>The Australian dollar jumped after the nation’s central bank said it will stick to its tapering plan, arguing that the economy will rebound from the latest virus outbreak.</b>Traders rushed to close short positions on the Aussie after the Reserve Bank of Australia decision on Tuesday, according to Asia-based FX traders. Existing AUD/NZD flows after the RBA decision propelled New Zealand’s dollar to a new session high.</p>\n<p>Australia’s currency advanced after its central bank kept a&nbsp;plan&nbsp;to taper bond purchases despite a protracted lockdown in Sydney.</p>\n<p><b>In commodities, </b>crude oil&nbsp;reversed&nbsp;earlier losses as sentiment improved in broader markets even though the spread of the delta coronavirus variant, including in the key market of China, continues to pose a risk to demand. Brent crude was up 33 cents in London at $73.28 per barrel. U.S. crude inched up to $71.56 a barrel while gold and industrial metal copper were both slightly lower at $1,810.45 per ounce and 9,594.50 a tonne respectively.</p>\n<p>Looking at the day ahead, this morning the only data due out is the June PPI print for the Euro area. This afternoon in the US June factory orders and final June revisions for durable and capital goods orders are expected as well as July vehicle sales data. In the end, however, investors will want to see a record in operating profits—no matter how it happens. That’s what could break shares out of their recent range.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d908f359ce3333ed256684e007ff74d0\" tg-width=\"871\" tg-height=\"580\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"></p>\n<p>Tesla reported more than $800 million in operating profits in the 2020 third quarter, and the stock more than doubled to around $860 in the three-month span that followed. But since operating profit growth largely paused in the subsequent quarters, shares have traded down from roughly $860 to around $640 recently. Profit stagnation has meant stock stagnation, too.</p>\n<p>The good news for Tesla bulls is Wall Street is projecting a fresh record: Operating profit is expected to be $835 million for the second quarter, driven by strong deliveries. The 2021 second quarter marked the first time Tesla delivered&nbsp;more than 200,000&nbsp;vehicles in a single quarter.</p>\n<p>After earnings are digested, there should be endless arguments among bulls and bears about the quality of earnings. For instance, one way Tesla generates sales is by selling regulatory credits—which it earns by producing more than its fair share of electric vehicles. The company generated $518 million in first-quarter credit sales, which helped Tesla&nbsp;beat earnings&nbsp;estimates. There is always debate about what is the “normal” amount of credit sales and when will those sales dry up. Eventually, both the bulls and bears expect other auto makers to sell their own EVs, cutting off that source of revenue for Tesla.</p>\n<p>There is also the issue&nbsp;of Bitcoin. Tesla recognized a small gain on its Bitcoin holdings in the first quarter, but the cryptocurrency’s prices have fallen by roughly half since their April peak. That means there is a chance of a small loss. How investors react is anyone’s guess, but don’t expect Tesla to sell out of its Bitcoin position. Musk continues to indicate his company will transact in the cryptocurrency when Bitcoin mining uses more sustainable power.</p>\n<p>Investors will also want to know when Tesla’s new Germany plant and Austin, Texas facility will start delivering cars. The Austin plant will build Tesla’s&nbsp;Cybertruck. There will also likely be questions about advances in Tesla’s driver-assistance functions—the company recently started selling its driver-assistance software&nbsp;as a subscription—and how much money the company could make from its charging network. The rout comes as the company issued a first-half profit warning on Sunday (July 25), citing higher expenses due to new restaurant openings and negative impact from the Covid-19 pandemic.\nThis week's losses have exacerbated a sell-off in Haidilao, best known for its string of Chinese spicy soup restaurants. The stock is now down 63 per cent from a February peak, a sharp reversal following an almost 250 per cent surge in the last two calendar years.\nThat reflects not just the challenges faced by the global restaurant industry because of changing consumer habits amid the pandemic, but also the company's struggle to replicate its past success despite significant new store additions, and a broader weakness in Hong Kong equities.\nHaidilao opened over 300 outlets in the first half, but new store performance has been weaker than expected, while same-store table turnover recovery may have stagnated at 60-70 per cent of 2019 levels, according to Bloomberg Intelligence.\n\"Their business in top tier cities has been very good, but when they started to penetrate into lower tier cities, it becomes much more challenging because the spending power could be lower,\" said Angela Han Lee, a Bloomberg Intelligence analyst. \"Lower tier cities are also not as densely populated so the population coverage of each restaurant is going down too.\"\nThe Beijing-based restaurant operator that serves up boiling soup broth with meat, seafood, vegetables, and noodles, went public in 2018 amid much fanfare, as many were captivated by the rag to riches story of the founders. The recent profit warning - which triggered a record 17 per cent slump in the stock on Monday - has fueled fears that the pandemic may cause further disruption to Haidilao's business model.\nChina has adopted an aggressive approach when it comes to containing any outbreaks of Covid-19, moving quickly to conduct mass-testing and quarantining.
