But that’s not actually the case. In fact, advertising is gradually becoming a material contributor to the company’s revenue base.
\n
In a research note Tuesday, Bernstein analystToni Sacconaghidoes a deep dive into Apple’s ad business. While the company doesn’t talk about the business much andprovides little disclosure, Sacconaghi estimates that Apple will generate about $3 billion in ad revenue in the September 2021 fiscal year, up from about $300 million in fiscal 2017. He thinks the total could grow to the $7 billion-to-$10 billion-a-year range by fiscal 2023 or 2024, boosting growth in Apple’s services business as much as three percentage points.
\n
Sacconaghi notes that most of Apple’s ad business is centered on search ads in the App Store. He says growth drivers in the business include the June addition of search ads in China, higher ad loads, and the introduction of banner ads to the store in May. He also points out that Apple generates modest revenue today—likely under $500 million a year—from ads in the Apple News and Stocks apps.
\n
There are other opportunities—including Apple Maps and Apple TV. Sacconaghi estimates that Google generates about $4 billion in ad revenue a year from Maps, with a user base about four times the size, suggesting $1 billion a year in potential ad revenue. And he says that the streaming-device companyRoku (ROKU)provides “a helpful precedent” for how Apple can generate revenue from Apple TV hardware—where he sees another $1 billion-plus opportunity.
\n
The analyst adds that Apple could place ads on other properties—like Apple Fitness+ and Garage Band—but that the adoption of advertising in applications like Apple Mail, Apple TV+, or Apple’s home screens likely would “irk consumers and undermine Apple’s strongly avowed stance on privacy.”
\n
Meanwhile, Sacconaghi says, Apple’s position on Identifier for Advertisers, or IDFA, offers the company some competitive advantages. “While we believe that Apple’s move to eliminate IDFA was done in the spirit of advancing consumer privacy, it may ultimately provide Apple with an advertising platform that is competitively advantaged vs. peers who don’t have access to Apple’s richer APIs,” he writes.
\n
The analyst notes thatAmazon.com‘s (AMZN) ad business was similar in size to Apple’s in 2017—and now has a run rate north of $25 billion and is a substantial part of the investment thesis on the stock. “Along similar lines, a large and growing advertising business could help Apple accelerate its overall Services growth rate, which would likely be viewed positively by investors,” he concludes.
\n
Apple shares were up 0.1%, at $145.72, in recent trading. Stocks Are Entering the Most Dangerous Stretch of the Year","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1142925544","media":"Barron's","summary":"“Yes, it’s summer, my time of year,”as the group War sangin that golden oldie “Summer” from the 1970","content":"
“Yes, it’s summer, my time of year,”as the group War sangin that golden oldie “Summer” from the 1970s, recalling pleasant times at the beach or by the barbecue. No need to remind anyone back then of droughts, wildfires, or Covid-19 surges that are unfortunate features of the steamy season this year.
\n
But the coming of August also means entering what historically has been the most treacherous stretch of the year for stocks, according to data going back to 1928 compiled by Bank of America analyst Stephen Suttmeier. He finds that theS&P 500index had a negative return averaging 0.03% in August, September, and October—the worst three-month span of the year for the big-cap benchmark. In fact, they constitute the only three-month period that averages in the red.
\n
August actually is bracketed by the best and worst months of the year, he adds in a research note. July averages a 1.58% return on the S&P 500, with positive results 59.1% of the time, while September averages a negative 1.03%, ending in the plus column less than half of the time, or 45%.
\n
This July did even better than the norm, with the S&P 500 gaining 2.27%. It also was the sixth consecutive up month for the index—the longest positive streak since September 2018, according to Dow Jones’ statistical mavens. During that period, its cumulative advance was 18.34%.
\n
August’s record is in between, with an average 0.70% S&P 500 return and positive results 58.1% of the time, marking a transition from the “summer rip” to the “fall dip.”
\n
Not surprisingly, the laggard returns of the August-October period are accompanied by an uptick in volatility, Suttmeier finds. Based on records going back to 1992, theCboe Volatility Index,or VIX, has often seen spikes during those months, following relatively subdued volatility in the April-July period.
\n
Past isn’t necessarily prologue, but if it is, the timing of the initial public offering byRobinhood Markets(ticker: HOOD) might prove propitious, if the stock market does have its typical seasonal rough patch. The online broker, whose putative mission is to open investing to novices supposedly ignored by established outfits, sold 55 million shares at $38 on Thursday. In the process, it provided a valuable lesson to all those who got in on the IPO: Buy low and sell high.
\n
The company evidently fulfilled the latter imperative, selling its shares high, even though they were priced at the low end of the expected $38-$42 range. Their price sank 8.4% on their first day of trading, although they recouped a bit on Friday. By week’s end, buyers of Robinhood’s IPO who held were down 7.5%.
\n
Among those who sold high were the company’s co-founders, CEO Vladimir Tenev and Chief Creative Officer Baiju Bhatt, who each offloaded 1.25 million shares in the IPO. As my illustrious predecessor, Alan Abelson, liked to observe, there are many good reasons to sell a stock, but expecting it to go up isn’t one of them. That has never been more true, given the ability of rich owners to monetize their assets by borrowing against them cheaply, and without incurring capital-gains taxes.
\n
To be sure, Tenev and Bhatt still have significant stakes in Robinhood. Asour colleague Avi Salzman reported, these were worth $2.5 billion at the initial offering price, and Tenev and Bhatt retain voting control. The two also could receive awards of shares worth as much as $6.7 billion for Tenev and $4 billion for Bhatt, if the stock hits $300, or nearly the proverbial ten-bagger from here.
\n
But in a blow against income inequality, the potential billionaire pair took symbolic pay cuts, to $34,248, the average annual wage of American workers. As the comedian Yakov Smirnoff likes to say, “What a country!”
\n
How those workers are faring will be a subject of the monthly employment report slated for release this coming Friday.
\n
Economists’ forecasts for nonfarm payrolls center around a gain of 900,000. No need to remind anyone back then of droughts, wildfires, or Covid-19 surges that are unfortunate features of the steamy season this year.\nBut the coming of August also means entering what historically has been the most treacherous stretch of the year for stocks, according to data going back to 1928 compiled by Bank of America analyst Stephen Suttmeier. He finds that theS&P 500index had a negative return averaging 0.03% in August, September, and October—the worst three-month span of the year for the big-cap benchmark. In fact, they constitute the only three-month period that averages in the red.\nAugust actually is bracketed by the best and worst months of the year, he adds in a research note. July averages a 1.58% return on the S&P 500, with positive results 59.1% of the time, while September averages a negative 1.03%, ending in the plus column less than half of the time, or 45%.\nThis July did even better than the norm, with the S&P 500 gaining 2.27%. It also was the sixth consecutive up month for the index—the longest positive streak since September 2018, according to Dow Jones’ statistical mavens. During that period, its cumulative advance was 18.34%.\nAugust’s record is in between, with an average 0.70% S&P 500 return and positive results 58.1% of the time, marking a transition from the “summer rip” to the “fall dip.”\nNot surprisingly, the laggard returns of the August-October period are accompanied by an uptick in volatility, Suttmeier finds. Based on records going back to 1992, theCboe Volatility Index,or VIX, has often seen spikes during those months, following relatively subdued volatility in the April-July period.\nPast isn’t necessarily prologue, but if it is, the timing of the initial public offering byRobinhood Markets(ticker: HOOD) might prove propitious, if the stock market does have its typical seasonal rough patch. The online broker, whose putative mission is to open investing to novices supposedly ignored by established outfits, sold 55 million shares at $38 on Thursday. In the process, it provided a valuable lesson to all those who got in on the IPO: Buy low and sell high.\nThe company evidently fulfilled the latter imperative, selling its shares high, even though they were priced at the low end of the expected $38-$42 range. Their price sank 8.4% on their first day of trading, although they recouped a bit on Friday. By week’s end, buyers of Robinhood’s IPO who held were down 7.5%.\nAmong those who sold high were the company’s co-founders, CEO Vladimir Tenev and Chief Creative Officer Baiju Bhatt, who each offloaded 1.25 million shares in the IPO. As my illustrious predecessor, Alan Abelson, liked to observe, there are many good reasons to sell a stock, but expecting it to go up isn’t one of them. That has never been more true, given the ability of rich owners to monetize their assets by borrowing against them cheaply, and without incurring capital-gains taxes.\nTo be sure, Tenev and Bhatt still have significant stakes in Robinhood. Asour colleague Avi Salzman reported, these were worth $2.5 billion at the initial offering price, and Tenev and Bhatt retain voting control. The two also could receive awards of shares worth as much as $6.7 billion for Tenev and $4 billion for Bhatt, if the stock hits $300, or nearly the proverbial ten-bagger from here.\nBut in a blow against income inequality, the potential billionaire pair took symbolic pay cuts, to $34,248, the average annual wage of American workers. As the comedian Yakov Smirnoff likes to say, “What a country!”\nHow those workers are faring will be a subject of the monthly employment report slated for release this coming Friday.\nEconomists’ forecasts for nonfarm payrolls center around a gain of 900,000. Jefferies economists Aneta Markowska and Thomas Simons estimate that the increase could top the long-anticipated one million mark; they forecast 1.2 million.\nMarkowska and Simons think the expiration of supplemental unemployment benefits in some states will boost the labor supply, although that is a matter of significant debate. What's more, NVIDIA recently received good news on its efforts to get its $40 billion acquisition of SoftBank Group's (OTC:SFTBF) (OTC:SOBK.Y) Arm Holdings approved in the U.K., with three major Arm customers giving the deal a thumbs-up.
\n
Still, with its shares trading at a steep price-to-earnings ratio of 94, it's necessary to ask: Has the stock price risen too far, too fast? Data center growth could explode
\n
Selling graphics cards to gamers is still NVIDIA's largest revenue source, but analysts are more bullish about its prospects in the data center space. Bank of America Securities analyst Vivek Arya expects the data center segment to overtake gaming, bringing in an estimated $30 billion in revenue annually by 2025. NVIDIA's fiscal year runs through January.
\n
NVIDIA's graphics processing units (GPUs) are used for a range of high-performance computing tasks, such as powering live-streamed video, artificial intelligence (AI) assistants, weather forecasting, medical imaging, and even fraud detection in financial services. At the company's 2021 investor day, NVIDIA unveiled its BlueField-3 data processing unit (DPU), which it built specifically for AI and accelerated computing. BlueField-3 delivers performance that is equivalent to up to 300 CPU cores.
\n
NVIDIA's guidance for its fiscal second quarter calls for another record period of gaming and data center revenue. Analysts expect NVIDIA to report revenue growth of 49% for the current fiscal year.
\n
2. Chances of the Arm acquisition's approval are increasing
\n
Meanwhile, NVIDIA is making progress to get its proposed acquisition of Arm Holdings approved by regulators. It needs agreement from the U.K., China, the European Union, and the U.S., and when it announced the deal in September, it initially said getting all the necessary agencies to sign on could take about 18 months.
\n
Three top customers of Arm -- Broadcom, MediaTek, and Marvell Technology -- recently threw their support behind the deal, which significantly raises the chances that NVIDIA will receive approval from the U.K.
\n
Some other chip companies might feel that NVIDIA would have too much power if the acquisition goes through. Arm's chip designs are used in all kinds of electronic devices, including most smartphones and digital TVs. Citi analyst Atif Malik previously said there was only a 10% chance that NVIDIA would walk away with Arm, but after the recent show of support by top customers, Malik now sees a 30% chance that the deal will be successfully completed.
\n
But NVIDIA still faces hurdles, especially in China, where Arm has a subsidiary that is partly owned by institutional investors in the region. Moreover, Arm's China business has been going through a leadership change, which complicates the deal being approved.
\n
Despite these obstacles, NVIDIA CFO Colette Kress said at an investor conference in early June that \"we are still expecting in the early part of 2022 to complete the acquisition of Arm.\"
\n
3. NVIDIA has plenty of growth opportunities without the Arm acquisition
\n
The addition of Arm would be a huge boost for NVIDIA, as it would allow the two companies to enter new markets that Arm's technology hasn't penetrated yet, such as data centers, the Internet of Things, and embedded devices.
\n
As the chances for that deal occurring increase, growth estimates are creeping higher for NVIDIA's revenue and earnings per share. Analysts currently expect NVIDIA to report nearly $30 billion in total annual revenue by fiscal 2023 and EPS of $19.85. The stock is currently trading at a forward P/E of 40 based on fiscal 2023 projections, which is high for a semiconductor stock.
\n
Even without Arm, the company is still well positioned for long-term growth. With the debut of NVIDIA's first data center CPU (Grace), the company now has a trio of products across CPUs, DPUs, and GPUs to pursue an estimated $100 billion opportunity in the data center market.
\n
Given these massive growth opportunities, I believe NVIDIA shares are still a buy at current prices. If you buy shares and hold them for the long term, they should deliver a satisfactory return on your investment.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Is NVIDIA Headed to $900? 3 Things to Know
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nIs NVIDIA Headed to $900? 3 Things to Know\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-07-01 22:04 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Shares of NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) have climbed by 31% since the semiconductor company unveiled its newest data center chips at its investor day on April 12. Citi analyst Atif Malik previously said there was only a 10% chance that NVIDIA would walk away with Arm, but after the recent show of support by top customers, Malik now sees a 30% chance that the deal will be successfully completed.\nBut NVIDIA still faces hurdles, especially in China, where Arm has a subsidiary that is partly owned by institutional investors in the region. Moreover, Arm's China business has been going through a leadership change, which complicates the deal being approved.\nDespite these obstacles, NVIDIA CFO Colette Kress said at an investor conference in early June that \"we are still expecting in the early part of 2022 to complete the acquisition of Arm.\"\n3. NVIDIA has plenty of growth opportunities without the Arm acquisition\nThe addition of Arm would be a huge boost for NVIDIA, as it would allow the two companies to enter new markets that Arm's technology hasn't penetrated yet, such as data centers, the Internet of Things, and embedded devices.\nAs the chances for that deal occurring increase, growth estimates are creeping higher for NVIDIA's revenue and earnings per share. Analysts currently expect NVIDIA to report nearly $30 billion in total annual revenue by fiscal 2023 and EPS of $19.85. The stock is currently trading at a forward P/E of 40 based on fiscal 2023 projections, which is high for a semiconductor stock.\nEven without Arm, the company is still well positioned for long-term growth. With the debut of NVIDIA's first data center CPU (Grace), the company now has a trio of products across CPUs, DPUs, and GPUs to pursue an estimated $100 billion opportunity in the data center market.\nGiven these massive growth opportunities, I believe NVIDIA shares are still a buy at current prices. If you buy shares and hold them for the long term, they should deliver a satisfactory return on your investment.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":148,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":891127817,"gmtCreate":1628352671739,"gmtModify":1703505353056,"author":{"id":"4087904141293090","authorId":"4087904141293090","name":"catzilla","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/08e6f2b0810c3d8fff459803d35fc362","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087904141293090","authorIdStr":"4087904141293090"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please

,"news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":124,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":174988493,"gmtCreate":1627057999112,"gmtModify":1703483609211,"author":{"id":"4087904141293090","authorId":"4087904141293090","name":"catzilla","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/08e6f2b0810c3d8fff459803d35fc362","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087904141293090","authorIdStr":"4087904141293090"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Seriously? To Craig Irwin of Roth Capital Partners, as rivals move to pick off a head start that turned Tesla into the world’s most highly valued car company, the stock will sink to $150.
\n
The divergence illustrates the tension that has sent Tesla shares toward a 4% loss during the first half of the year even as rival automakers surged ahead. That’s a marked contrast to its more than 8-fold jump last year and reflects investors’ doubts about heady growth expectations for the company in the face of stronger competitive threats and signs of a sales slowdown in China.
\n
“For a long time Tesla was the only credible player in the high-quality EV market, and we are seeing that starting to change,” said JoAnne Feeney, portfolio manager atAdvisorsCapital Management, who said the company’s current valuation assumes it will become the biggest seller of cars in the U.S. “That seems to be an awful lot to ask.”
\n

\n
Tesla sold about half a million cars worldwide in 2020, accounting for a fraction of even the 14.5 million light vehicles sold in the U.S., and it’s facing threats from traditional automakers such as General Motors Co.,Ford Motor Co. and Volkswagen AG that are launching their own electric-vehicle lineups. In China, Tesla’s lead over other startups has already started to shrink, according to UBS Group AG analyst Patrick Hummel.
\n
That competition poses a separate challenge to the company’s bottom line: Tesla has profited from selling carbon-offset credits to other carmakers that haven’t met their emissions targets. But the more its rivals’ sales of electric vehicles take off, the more that source of revenue will drop.
\n
Yet Tesla’s stock-market valuation is based on the expectation of steep growth, giving it little room for error. It’s currently trading at more than 650 times earnings per share, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. That compares with a multiple of 30 for the S&P 500 Index.
\n
“Tesla’s market valuation is vastly over optimistic, ignoring the over 500 EV models that will be on the road by the end of 2025,” said Roth Capital’s Irwin. “Tesla does not operate in a vacuum and many companies have better technology.”
\n
The company will be reporting second-quarter delivery figures later this week, a major catalyst that analysts and investors will be keenly watching.
\n

\n
But Tesla bulls are confident that the company’s valuation will be justified if it comes to dominate the industry, much like tech behemoths Alphabet Inc.,FaceBook Inc. and Amazon.com Inc .have come to lord over their’s.
\n
Others just see it as a pause for Tesla shares as investors come to terms with the surging valuation last year, when markets leaned heavily onto growth stocks as the pandemic shut down much of the global economy. To Craig Irwin of Roth Capital Partners, as rivals move to pick off a head start that turned Tesla into the world’s most highly valued car company, the stock will sink to $150.\nThe divergence illustrates the tension that has sent Tesla shares toward a 4% loss during the first half of the year even as rival automakers surged ahead. That’s a marked contrast to its more than 8-fold jump last year and reflects investors’ doubts about heady growth expectations for the company in the face of stronger competitive threats and signs of a sales slowdown in China.\n“For a long time Tesla was the only credible player in the high-quality EV market, and we are seeing that starting to change,” said JoAnne Feeney, portfolio manager atAdvisorsCapital Management, who said the company’s current valuation assumes it will become the biggest seller of cars in the U.S. “That seems to be an awful lot to ask.”\n\nTesla sold about half a million cars worldwide in 2020, accounting for a fraction of even the 14.5 million light vehicles sold in the U.S., and it’s facing threats from traditional automakers such as General Motors Co.,Ford Motor Co. and Volkswagen AG that are launching their own electric-vehicle lineups. In China, Tesla’s lead over other startups has already started to shrink, according to UBS Group AG analyst Patrick Hummel.\nThat competition poses a separate challenge to the company’s bottom line: Tesla has profited from selling carbon-offset credits to other carmakers that haven’t met their emissions targets. But the more its rivals’ sales of electric vehicles take off, the more that source of revenue will drop.\nYet Tesla’s stock-market valuation is based on the expectation of steep growth, giving it little room for error. It’s currently trading at more than 650 times earnings per share, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. That compares with a multiple of 30 for the S&P 500 Index.\n“Tesla’s market valuation is vastly over optimistic, ignoring the over 500 EV models that will be on the road by the end of 2025,” said Roth Capital’s Irwin. “Tesla does not operate in a vacuum and many companies have better technology.”\nThe company will be reporting second-quarter delivery figures later this week, a major catalyst that analysts and investors will be keenly watching.\n\nBut Tesla bulls are confident that the company’s valuation will be justified if it comes to dominate the industry, much like tech behemoths Alphabet Inc.,FaceBook Inc. and Amazon.com Inc .have come to lord over their’s.\nOthers just see it as a pause for Tesla shares as investors come to terms with the surging valuation last year, when markets leaned heavily onto growth stocks as the pandemic shut down much of the global economy. That influx has started to shift this year in the so-called reflation trade, with funds moving back into stocks more likely to benefit from the recovery.\nCathie Wood’s Ark Investment Management, which had a 0.6% stake in Tesla as of March 31 and is an ardent backer of the company, remains steadfast in its support despite the stock’s showing this year. Ark expects it to benefit from rising electric vehicle sales and sees even odds that it will deliver fully self-driven cars in four years.\nIf all goes as planned? Ark forecasts the stock will reach $3,000 in 2025.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":79,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":863092097,"gmtCreate":1632327341719,"gmtModify":1676530755005,"author":{"id":"4087904141293090","authorId":"4087904141293090","name":"catzilla","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/08e6f2b0810c3d8fff459803d35fc362","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087904141293090","authorIdStr":"4087904141293090"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Shopify(SHOP)$ lets go shopping","listText":"$Shopify(SHOP)$ lets go shopping","text":"$Shopify(SHOP)$ lets go shopping","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/aaa59a5a15caa5668c0b622f41506078","width":"720","height":"1679"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/863092097","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":352,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
