Over the past week, favored equities GameStop (GME) and AMC (AMC) have plummeted, dropping about 10% and 21% respectively.
\n
The decline affirms the fears of observers who had warned that a pullback was likely for shares elevated by what some consider speculative trading.
\n
In a new interview, Franklin Templeton (BEN) CEO Jenny Johnson — whose investment firm manages more than $1.5 trillion in assets — criticized the trading as risky investing that could produce lucrative highs or devastating lows. However, she said she's \"optimistic\" about new trading technology that helps everyday people access the market, predicting the trend will give traders opportunities otherwise exclusive to the rich.
\n
\"On the meme stocks, I never like investing where there isn't fundamentals behind it,\" she says.
\n
\"I think that the challenge with things like the meme stocks is yeah, if you time it right, you're going to do great,\" adds Johnson, who became CEO at Franklin Templeton last February. \"On the other hand, you could lose everything.\"
\n
To be sure, shares in meme stock darlings GameStop and AMC remain well above where they stood at the outset of the year. GameStop has leapt more than 900% over that period, and AMC has shot up more than 1,750%.
\n
Shareholders in AMC showed their strength last week when online opposition to the potential issuance of new shares prompted CEO Adam Aron to cancel a vote on the proposal.
\n
Overall, the stock frenzy has fueled a record flow of money into the market from retail investors. Last month, the traders bought almost $28 billion of stocks and exchange-traded funds on a net basis, the largest amount in a single month since at least 2014, according to data from Vanda Research that was reported by the Wall Street Journal.
\n
But wealthy investors continue to dominate the stock market. Over the past week, favored equities GameStop (GME) and AMC (AMC) have plummeted, dropping about 10% and 21% respectively.\nThe decline affirms the fears of observers who had warned that a pullback was likely for shares elevated by what some consider speculative trading.\nIn a new interview, Franklin Templeton (BEN) CEO Jenny Johnson — whose investment firm manages more than $1.5 trillion in assets — criticized the trading as risky investing that could produce lucrative highs or devastating lows. However, she said she's \"optimistic\" about new trading technology that helps everyday people access the market, predicting the trend will give traders opportunities otherwise exclusive to the rich.\n\"On the meme stocks, I never like investing where there isn't fundamentals behind it,\" she says.\n\"I think that the challenge with things like the meme stocks is yeah, if you time it right, you're going to do great,\" adds Johnson, who became CEO at Franklin Templeton last February. \"On the other hand, you could lose everything.\"\nTo be sure, shares in meme stock darlings GameStop and AMC remain well above where they stood at the outset of the year. GameStop has leapt more than 900% over that period, and AMC has shot up more than 1,750%.\nShareholders in AMC showed their strength last week when online opposition to the potential issuance of new shares prompted CEO Adam Aron to cancel a vote on the proposal.\nOverall, the stock frenzy has fueled a record flow of money into the market from retail investors. Last month, the traders bought almost $28 billion of stocks and exchange-traded funds on a net basis, the largest amount in a single month since at least 2014, according to data from Vanda Research that was reported by the Wall Street Journal.\nBut wealthy investors continue to dominate the stock market. The wealthiest 10% of U.S. families own 84% of overall equities and 92% of directly held equities, according to a 2019 Federal Reserve survey analyzed by The New York Times.\nA GameStop storefront is shown before opening Thursday morning, Jan. 28, 2021, in Dallas. But when we look at the history of crypto, and we look at where we are, I really do believe this is probably a crash,” Minerd said. “And a crash would mean we’d be down 70% to 80%, so that would be, let’s just say, between $10,000 and $15,000.”\nMinerd said in April thatbitcoin’s price would soon be cut in half. When Minerd made his call, bitcoin was trading near $55,000 after pulling back from its all-time high above $60,000. It fell allthe way below $30,000 in June.\nThe cryptocurrency has since perked up off its lows, but Minerd said the overall trend still pointed toward further declines. On Friday,it was trading around $32,800.\n“The market is trading heavy. It’s really hard to get this thing to reverse. I wouldn’t be in a hurry to buy bitcoin, and I don’t see any reason to own it right now. If you’re going to be a speculator, speculate that it’s going lower,” he said.\nThe Guggenheim global chief investment officer is not a full crypto skeptic long term, having previously said that bitcoin could eventually rise above $400,000 per coin.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":315,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":143314369,"gmtCreate":1625760479351,"gmtModify":1703748127221,"author":{"id":"4088594255252740","authorId":"4088594255252740","name":"JuniorBoy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7db962d3e534c3dc2cf2e81f949e2c80","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088594255252740","authorIdStr":"4088594255252740"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good article ","listText":"Good article ","text":"Good article","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/143314369","repostId":"1195354281","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1195354281","pubTimestamp":1625757520,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1195354281?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-08 23:18","market":"us","language":"en","title":"CARV Stock: 10 Things to Know About Carver Bancorp Amid a Giant Squeeze","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1195354281","media":"investorplace","summary":"If you woke up this morning expecting to see 250%-plus gains on a single stock, this Carver Bancorp(","content":"
If you woke up this morning expecting to see 250%-plus gains on a single stock, this Carver Bancorp(NASDAQ:CARV) short squeeze won’t surprise you at all. With the cartel discussing its production policy not only for the rest of the year, but also into 2022, the solution to the standoff will shape the market and industry into next year.
\n
The fight between the two key producers broke into public view on Sunday with both countries, which typically keep their grievances within the walls of the royal palaces, airing their differences on television.
\n
Riyadh insisted on its plan, backed by other OPEC+ members including Russia, that the group should increase production over the next few months, but also extend its broader agreement until the end of 2022 for the sake of stability.
\n
“We have to extend,” Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Sunday night. “The extension puts lots people in their comfort zone.”
\n
In an indication of the seriousness of the diplomatic dispute, Prince Abdulaziz signaled that Abu Dhabi was isolated within the OPEC+ alliance. “It’s the whole group versus one country, which is sad to me but this is the reality.”
\n
Hours earlier, his Emirati counterpart, Suhail al-Mazrouei again rejected an the extension of the deal, supporting only a short-term increase and demanding better terms for itself for 2022.
\n
“The UAE is for an unconditional increase of production, which the market requires,” Al-Mazrouei told Bloomberg Television earlier on Sunday. Yet the decision to extend the deal until the end of 2022 is “unnecessary to take now.”
\n
Abu Dhabi is forcing its allies into a difficult position: accept its requests, or risk unraveling the OPEC+ alliance. Failure to reach a deal would squeeze an already tight market, potentially sending crude prices sharply higher.
\n
But a more dramatic scenario is also in play -- OPEC+ unity may break down entirely, risking a free-for-all that would crash prices in a repeat of the crisis last year. That time, it was a disagreement between Saudi Arabia and Russia that triggered a punishing price war.
\n
Months after that price war ended in a truce, the UAE unsettled the market again byfloating the ideaof leaving the cartel. It hasn’t repeated the threat again this week, but when asked if the UAE might quit, the Saudi prince only said: “Ihopenot.”
\n
No Deal, No Oil
\n
Prince Abdulaziz said that without the extension of the agreement, there’s a fallback deal in place -- under which oil output doesn’t increase in August and the rest of the year, potentially risking an inflationary oil price spike. Asked if they could hike production without the UAE on board, Prince Abdulaziz said: “We cannot.”
\n

\n
OPEC+ nations, oil traders and consultants were taken aback by the fight, and the apparent lack of communication between the two. Prince Abdulaziz said he had not spoken to his counterpart in Abu Dhabi since Friday -- even as he insisted he remained his friend.
\n
“I haven’t heard from my friend Suhail,” he said, adding he was ready to talk. “If he calls me, why not?” Asked if more senior officials had been in touch, he declined to comment.
\n
At the center of the dispute is a word key to OPEC+ output agreements: baselines. Each country measures its production cuts or increases against a baseline. The higher that number, the more a country will be allowed to pump. The UAE says its current level, set at about 3.2 million barrels a day in April 2020, is too low, and says it should be 3.8 million when the deal is extended into 2022.
\n
Saudi Arabia and Russia have rejected re-calculating the output target for the UAE, fearing that everyone else in OPEC+ would ask for the same treatment, potentially unraveling the deal that took several weeks of negotiations, and the the help of U.S. President Donald Trump as broker.
\n
Prince Abdulaziz suggested that Abu Dhabi was cherry picking its new output target, and it would set a bad precedent. “What kind of compromise you can get if you say my production is 3.8 and this is going to be my base,” he said.
\n
In April 2020, Abu Dhabi accepted its current baseline, but it doesn’t want the straitjacket to stay on for even longer. With the cartel discussing its production policy not only for the rest of the year, but also into 2022, the solution to the standoff will shape the market and industry into next year.\nThe fight between the two key producers broke into public view on Sunday with both countries, which typically keep their grievances within the walls of the royal palaces, airing their differences on television.\nRiyadh insisted on its plan, backed by other OPEC+ members including Russia, that the group should increase production over the next few months, but also extend its broader agreement until the end of 2022 for the sake of stability.\n“We have to extend,” Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Sunday night. “The extension puts lots people in their comfort zone.”\nIn an indication of the seriousness of the diplomatic dispute, Prince Abdulaziz signaled that Abu Dhabi was isolated within the OPEC+ alliance. “It’s the whole group versus one country, which is sad to me but this is the reality.”\nHours earlier, his Emirati counterpart, Suhail al-Mazrouei again rejected an the extension of the deal, supporting only a short-term increase and demanding better terms for itself for 2022.\n“The UAE is for an unconditional increase of production, which the market requires,” Al-Mazrouei told Bloomberg Television earlier on Sunday. Yet the decision to extend the deal until the end of 2022 is “unnecessary to take now.”\nAbu Dhabi is forcing its allies into a difficult position: accept its requests, or risk unraveling the OPEC+ alliance. Failure to reach a deal would squeeze an already tight market, potentially sending crude prices sharply higher.\nBut a more dramatic scenario is also in play -- OPEC+ unity may break down entirely, risking a free-for-all that would crash prices in a repeat of the crisis last year. That time, it was a disagreement between Saudi Arabia and Russia that triggered a punishing price war.\nMonths after that price war ended in a truce, the UAE unsettled the market again byfloating the ideaof leaving the cartel. It hasn’t repeated the threat again this week, but when asked if the UAE might quit, the Saudi prince only said: “Ihopenot.”\nNo Deal, No Oil\nPrince Abdulaziz said that without the extension of the agreement, there’s a fallback deal in place -- under which oil output doesn’t increase in August and the rest of the year, potentially risking an inflationary oil price spike. Asked if they could hike production without the UAE on board, Prince Abdulaziz said: “We cannot.”\n\nOPEC+ nations, oil traders and consultants were taken aback by the fight, and the apparent lack of communication between the two. Prince Abdulaziz said he had not spoken to his counterpart in Abu Dhabi since Friday -- even as he insisted he remained his friend.\n“I haven’t heard from my friend Suhail,” he said, adding he was ready to talk. “If he calls me, why not?” Asked if more senior officials had been in touch, he declined to comment.\nAt the center of the dispute is a word key to OPEC+ output agreements: baselines. Each country measures its production cuts or increases against a baseline. The higher that number, the more a country will be allowed to pump. The UAE says its current level, set at about 3.2 million barrels a day in April 2020, is too low, and says it should be 3.8 million when the deal is extended into 2022.\nSaudi Arabia and Russia have rejected re-calculating the output target for the UAE, fearing that everyone else in OPEC+ would ask for the same treatment, potentially unraveling the deal that took several weeks of negotiations, and the the help of U.S. President Donald Trump as broker.\nPrince Abdulaziz suggested that Abu Dhabi was cherry picking its new output target, and it would set a bad precedent. “What kind of compromise you can get if you say my production is 3.8 and this is going to be my base,” he said.\nIn April 2020, Abu Dhabi accepted its current baseline, but it doesn’t want the straitjacket to stay on for even longer. It has spent heavily to expand production capacity, attracting foreign companies too. With Iran potentially returning to the oil market soon if it reaches a nuclear deal, patience for getting new terms is wearing out.\nOPEC+ is scheduled to meet again virtually on Monday at 3 p.m. Vienna time, although Prince Abdulaziz suggested it wasn’t set in stone. He wouldn’t comment on the chances of finding a consensus, saying he would work hard to seek one. “Tomorrow is another day.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":429,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":144860086,"gmtCreate":1626275361845,"gmtModify":1703756982385,"author":{"id":"4088594255252740","authorId":"4088594255252740","name":"JuniorBoy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7db962d3e534c3dc2cf2e81f949e2c80","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4088594255252740","authorIdStr":"4088594255252740"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/144860086","repostId":"1103407312","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1103407312","pubTimestamp":1626275222,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1103407312?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-14 23:07","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Microsoft to offer cloud-based version of Windows operating system","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1103407312","media":"Reuters","summary":"(Reuters) - Microsoft Corp on Wednesday said it will offer its Windows operating system as a cloud-b","content":"
(Reuters) - Microsoft Corp on Wednesday said it will offer its Windows operating system as a cloud-based service, aiming to make it easier to access business apps that need Windows from a broader range of devices.
\n
Windows 365, as the service will be called, will roll out on Aug. 2 and will work somewhat like buying a new Windows PC: A business or school will pick how much computing power, memory and storage they would like for an the new machine.
\n
But instead of waiting for a physical machine to arrive in the mail, the employee or student will access the operating system in the cloud via an existing PC, a Mac, iPhone, Android phone or Chromebook, as long as it has a web browser compatible with HTML 5, a widely used internet standard.
\n
The cloud-based version was created in response to feedback from clients who wanted employees and students to have quicker and easier PC access regardless of physical location.
\n
\"We define that shift to hybrid work as really being flexibility in how, when and where you work.
