What's several times more difficult, though, is finding potential winners before they take off. Companies working on emerging technologies often face significant risks. At the same time, if successful, their stocks could generate windfall returns. Here are three such companies that are working on the technologies and infrastructure of the future.
\n
QuantumScape
\n
The number of electric vehicles in use worldwide is increasing with each passing day. The shift from internal combustion engine vehicles to EVs is unstoppable. QuantumScape (NYSE:QS) may play a critical role in this transition. The company believes that the solid-state batteries it is developing can provide greater range and quicker recharge times than the lithium-ion batteries currently in use. What's more, its batteries should, in theory, also cost less than lithium-ion batteries.
\n
If QuantumScape can deliver what it is promising, it would have a huge market for its batteries. The company estimates $450 billion of potential annual battery sales if all 90+ million vehicles produced annually shift to batteries.
\n
\n
There are, however, several risks to consider. QuantumScape is still developing the technology and is several years away from commercial production. Its batteries have so far only been sample tested in labs. In its second-quarter results, the company announced that it is testing 10-layer cells and progressing according to its plans. Notably, batteries for use in EVs need several dozen of such layers, something the company expects to accomplish in 2022. At the same time, QuantumScape is slightly ahead of schedule for its pre-pilot manufacturing line. Overall, the company said it is progressing on time.
\n
QuantumScape doesn't expect to generate positive EBITDA before 2027. That's a long time from now, and many things can go wrong in the meantime. But this stock must be on your watch list, even if you decide not to buy it right now.
\n
ChargePoint Holdings
\n
Another stock to potentially benefit from the growth in EVs is electric charging company ChargePoint (NYSE:CHPT). With more than 112,000 charging points in North America and Europe, ChargePoint is one of the biggest EV charging companies in the world. The company claims to control 70% of the public level 2 charging market share in North America.
\n
Like other EV charging providers, ChargePoint isn't profitable right now. It hopes to generate positive EBITDA in 2024. Though a well-functioning public charging network is essential for the growth of EVs, the model for development of this infrastructure is still evolving. Some EV makers, such as Tesla, are developing their own charging networks. Others, such as General Motors, are partnering with several public EV charging companies, essentially suggesting that all chargers are basically the same.
\n
EV charging companies, in turn, are finding innovative ways to generate revenue while continuing to expand their infrastructure. This infrastructure, if properly developed and maintained, should surely be of value in the future. As a top player, ChargePoint could be better placed than others to benefit from the expected growth in EVs. You wouldn't want to miss watching how this company evolves over time.
\n
Bloom Energy
\n
Fuel cells have certainly attracted investors' attention lately. However, makers of proton-exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, such as Plug Power, remain the primary focus. That's because PEM fuel cells find applications in the transport segment due to their quick start and stop times, as well as their lighter weight.
\n
However, another key area for fuel cells that doesn't get so much interest but is of great significance is stationary baseload generation and back-up power. Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) is primarily focused on this segment. It is also expanding into carbon capture technologies, marine transport, and hydrogen fuel cells and electrolyzers. Overall, the company pegs its total addressable market at over $2 trillion.
\n
Bloom Energy fares better on key financial metrics compared to other fuel cell makers. In the last three years, the company has grown its revenue, shrank losses, and improved margins. Bloom Energy expects that its cash from operations will move toward positive territory for full-year 2021. It also expects to achieve non-GAAP operating margin of around 3% for the year. This overlooked stock definitely needs to be on your watch list of growth stocks.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 High-Risk Stocks to Add to Your Watch List
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 High-Risk Stocks to Add to Your Watch List\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-14 10:36 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Identifying winning stocks in hindsight is a simple task. That compares with about 3.2 times today.

The result should be a leaner, meaner AT&T that’s better equipped to face its challenges, but investors will want to see proof after feeling burned by years of management decisions that look poor in hindsight. Investors interested in Warner Bros. Discovery can shift to that stock, and those who want a yield-generating telecom stock can double down on AT&T. Of the $1 trillion, half is spent on conventional infrastructure, and only $550 billion is spent on new infrastructure, of which $110 billion is spent on roads and bridges. We won't discuss the economic significance of this infrastructure plan today, because the cost of infrastructure in the United States is huge (the annual operating cost of the dilapidated New York subway is $9 billion), and the $110 billion will only be a little water in the end. Today, I mainly talk about the political game after the infrastructure plan.
\n
There is a characteristic of a democratic society. Most things are always supported by half and half. Whether to wear a mask, whether to vaccinate, whether to build infrastructure, whether to increase taxes, whether to immigrate or not … When about half of the people agree with something, they will always see the other half come out against it. Major bills in the United States, with the name of bipartisan support, can be traced back to the bill of George W. Bush fighting Iraq, which was supported by 48 Republican senators and 29 Democratic senators. \"Obamacare\" and \"Trump tax cuts\" are only supported by senators from their own parties. The United States is becoming more and more divided, and now even the appointment of justices is 50-50.
\n
The legislative difficulty in the United States lies in the Senate. If you want to pass a bill in the US Senate, you must first end the \"filibuster\", which requires 60 votes, but only 50 votes when you formally vote. It is also a matter of the last decade that this loophole was discovered and abused into routine. Biden's bipartisan infrastructure plan has 68 votes for ending the \"debate\" and 69 votes for formal voting. In addition to 50 Democratic senators who all support the infrastructure plan, a total of 19 Republican senators have crossed the party.
\n
If Biden's infrastructure plan finally comes to the ground, it will undoubtedly add an important weight to his re-election in 2024, because the infrastructure plan has not been realized in the United States for more than ten years, and all presidential candidates say they want to build infrastructure when they run for office, but they are all empty promises. To say 10,000 steps back, even if Biden loses the election in 2024, the infrastructure plan will become his landmark bill as president, which is as famous as \"Trump tax reduction\", \"Obamacare\" and \"George W. Bush fighting Iraq\".
\n
Republican senators can't help but understand that supporting infrastructure plans is tantamount to endorsing Biden in 2024, but they still have to play with fire tentatively. Because for them, 2024 is either Biden or Trump. Calls for Trump to re-enter the race are growing, and the Justice Department and New York state are investigating his economic problems, which will further push Trump to re-enter the race for president. As long as he becomes president, he can stop the investigation of him by the Ministry of Justice.
\n
Of the 50 Republican senators, 19 supported, 30 opposed and one did not vote. Because the normal Republican voting behavior is against, I classify the person who did not vote as for (timidly for). The following figure shows the age and term statistics of Republican lawmakers who support and oppose infrastructure plans. Simply put, the older Republican senators, the longer they serve, are more willing to cross the party in this vote.
\n
Republican senators cross parties, not because they really want to be happy for the American people, but because they don't care more about their political career. Three of these 20 people will not seek re-election after their term ends in 2022. If you look closely at the list, the Republican senator's favorite (Cruz, Scott, Cotton, Hawley), who is also a possible future presidential candidate, is not among the supporters. In Trump's second impeachment vote, five out of seven renegade Republican lawmakers supported the infrastructure. McConnell, the Republican Senate leader who has always opposed all Democratic policies, also voted for it in this vote. In the second impeachment, McConnell was the most vocal condemner of Trump in the Republican Party.
\n
The 20 Republican senators are not supporting infrastructure, they are only taking sides against Trump's 2024.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tiger Review: Political Game after Infrastructure Plan
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nTiger Review: Political Game after Infrastructure Plan\n
\n\n
\n\n\n\n\n\n

\n\n
\n
Tiger Newspress
\n
2021-08-11 21:04
\n
\n\n\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
The US Senate passed the infrastructure plan-the Republican Party began to stand for the 2024 general election
\n
The US Senate passed the bipartisan infrastructure plan yesterday, which was greatly reduced compared with the initial plan. Today, I mainly talk about the political game after the infrastructure plan.\nThere is a characteristic of a democratic society. The United States is becoming more and more divided, and now even the appointment of justices is 50-50.\nThe legislative difficulty in the United States lies in the Senate. In addition to 50 Democratic senators who all support the infrastructure plan, a total of 19 Republican senators have crossed the party.\nIf Biden's infrastructure plan finally comes to the ground, it will undoubtedly add an important weight to his re-election in 2024, because the infrastructure plan has not been realized in the United States for more than ten years, and all presidential candidates say they want to build infrastructure when they run for office, but they are all empty promises. Each are likely to have moderated last month after initial reopening surges in demand and price increases earlier this year.
\n
On the inflation front, the Labor Department's August Consumer Price Index (CPI) is set for release on Tuesday. The print is expected to decelerate on both a monthly and annual basis, suggesting the peak growth rates in prices for consumer goods and service may already have passed during this economic recovery.
\n
Consensus economists expect the broadest measure of CPI will grow 0.4% in August compared to July, and by 5.3% compared to August 2020. In July, the headline CPI grew 0.5% month-on-month and by 5.4% year-on-year, with the latter representing the fastest annual growth rate since 2008.
\n
Excluding more volatile food and energy prices, the CPI likely grew 0.3% month-on-month in August to match July's pace. However, on a year-over-year basis, the CPI excluding food and energy prices likely ticked down to a 4.2% rate, or a hair below July's 4.3% rate. That had, in turn, moderated from a 4.5% annual rate in June, which had marked the fastest rise since 1991.
\n
The multi-year highs in consumer price increases so far this year have coincided with the broadening economic recovery, as more Americans became vaccinated and were more inclined to spend. This especially drove up prices in goods and services closely tied to renewed consumer mobility.
\n
Used car and truck prices, for instances, rose at least 7.3% in each of April, May and June before decelerating sharply to an only 0.2% rise in July — suggesting an initial wave of demand was finally being unwound as consumers reacclimatized to going back out and companies' supply chains began to catch up with demand. Similar trends have been seen in prices for airline tickets, motor vehicle insurance and apparel prices, which pulled back in July after spiking earlier in late spring and early summer.
\n
Other categories of consumer prices have seen more sustained increases, especially in food and energy prices. Other services-related areas of consumption have also seen sustained rises, with consumers returning to in-person activities like dining out at bars and restaurants and leisure traveling. Its outsized increases earlier this year — along with increases in the Federal Reserve's preferred inflationary gauge, core personal consumption expenditures — have suggested to some economists that the central bank might be prudent to alter its monetary policies to stave off a sustained overheating of the economy.
\n
Federal Reserve policymakers, however, have largely stuck to the conviction that inflation will prove transitory in this economy. Central bank officials like Fed Chair Jerome Powell further suggested that a premature policy move could actually backfire by cutting short the recovery in the labor market.
\n
\"The spike in inflation is so far largely the product of a relatively narrow group of goods and services that have been directly affected by the pandemic and the reopening of the economy,\" Powell said during his speech at the central bank's Jackson Hole symposium in late August.
\n
\"Some prices — for example, for hotel rooms and airplane tickets — declined sharply during the recession and have now moved back up close to pre-pandemic levels,\" he said. \"The 12-month window we use in computing inflation now captures the rebound in prices but not the initial decline, temporarily elevating reported inflation. These effects, which are adding a few tenths to measured inflation, should wash out over time.\"
\n
Retail sales
\n
Another closely watched economic data report out this week will be Thursday's retail sales print from the U.S. Commerce Department.
\n
Consumer spending has retreated in recent months as a boost from stimulus checks and other government support faded compared to earlier this year. In July, retail sales fell by a worse-than-expected 1.1%, which was more than three times greater than the drop expected.
\n
The August retail sales report will capture more of the impact on spending from the latest jump in coronavirus cases, with infections related to the Delta variant's spread having picked up mid-summer. Consensus economists expect to see sales fall for a back-to-back month, dropping by 0.8% for the month.
\n
Some service-related spending already slowed in July, suggesting consumers were already going out somewhat less frequently as infections mounted. Food services and drinking places sales increase by 1.7% in July, following a 2.4% monthly gain in June.
\n
The August retail sales report, however, will not capture any impact on spending related to the national expiration of enhanced unemployment benefits. Throughout the summer, about half of U.S. states had ended pandemic-era federal jobless benefits to try and incentivize unemployed individuals to return to work. The other half of states ended these benefits by Sept. 6.
\n
Future retail sales reports for September and onward may reflect slowing sales as a result of the expiration of this aid, some economists suggested.
\n
\"Spending by the unemployed, especially low-income households, has been supported by enhanced unemployment benefits,\" Rubeela Farooqi, chief economist at High Frequency Economics, wrote in a note. \"Absent this support, spending outcomes will surely be different, especially if households are less secure about job prospects going forward.\"
\n
Economic calendar
\n
\n

Monday: Monthly budget statement, August (-$302.1 billion during prior month)

\n

Tuesday: NFIB Small Business Optimism, August (99.7 during prior month); The other half of states ended these benefits by Sept. 6.\nFuture retail sales reports for September and onward may reflect slowing sales as a result of the expiration of this aid, some economists suggested.\n\"Spending by the unemployed, especially low-income households, has been supported by enhanced unemployment benefits,\" Rubeela Farooqi, chief economist at High Frequency Economics, wrote in a note. \"Absent this support, spending outcomes will surely be different, especially if households are less secure about job prospects going forward.\"\nEconomic calendar\n\nMonday: Monthly budget statement, August (-$302.1 billion during prior month)\nTuesday: NFIB Small Business Optimism, August (99.7 during prior month); Real Average Weekly Earnings, year-over-year, August (-0.9% during prior month); Consumer Price Index, month-over-month, August (0.4% expected, 0.5% in July); Consumer Price Index excluding food and energy, month-over-month, August (0.3% expected, 0.3% in July); Consumer Price Index, year-over-year, August (5.3% expected, 5.4% in July); Consumer Price Index excluding food and energy, year-over-year (August (4.2% expected, 4.3% in August)\nWednesday: MBA Mortgage Applications, week ended September 10 (-1.9% during prior week); Empire Manufacturing, September (20.0 expected, 18.3 during prior month); Import Price Index, month-over-month, August (0.3% expected, 0.3% in July); Industrial Production, month-over-month, August (0.6% expected, 0.9% in July); Capacity Utilization, August (76.4% in August, 76.1% in July); Manufacturing Production, August (0.4% expected, 1.4% in July)\nThursday: Retail Sales Advance, month-over-month, August (-0.8% expected, -1.1% in July); Retail Sales excluding autos and gas, August (-0.5% expected, -0.7% in July); Initial jobless claims, week ended September 11; Continuing Claims, week ended September 4; Philadelphia Fed Business Outlook Index, September (20.0 expected, 19.4 in August); Business inventories, July (0.5% expected, 0.8% in June); Total Net TIC Flows, July ($31.5 billion in June); Total Long-term TIC Flows, July ($110.9 billion in June)\nFriday: University of Michigan Sentiment, September preliminary (72.7 expected, 70.3 in August)\n\nEarnings calendar\n\nMonday: Oracle (ORCL) after market close\nTuesday: Lennar (LEN), FuelCell Energy (FCEL) before market open \nWednesday: Weber (WEBR) before market open\nThursday: No notable reports scheduled for release\nFriday: No notable reports scheduled for release","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":76,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":834123140,"gmtCreate":1629781724880,"gmtModify":1676530129484,"author":{"id":"4091065867132370","authorId":"4091065867132370","name":"STARBUY","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5848788c7833ba7ae5f3810f3d982ccd","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4091065867132370","authorIdStr":"4091065867132370"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Over 155","listText":"Over 155","text":"Over 155","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/834123140","repostId":"1104413070","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1104413070","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1629776596,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1104413070?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-24 11:43","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple: The $150 Struggle Is Real","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1104413070","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"Summary\n\nApple is struggling to push past a ceiling on the stock at $150.\n5G iPhone units sold in FY","content":"
Summary
\n
\n
Apple is struggling to push past a ceiling on the stock at $150.
\n
5G iPhone units sold in FY21 so far make for a high hurdle in FY22.
\n
The stock trades at an insanely 27x FY22 EPS estimates with minimal growth rates going forward.
\n
Looking for a helping hand in the market? An investor will naturally overweight the recent results of a business in deriving the correct current valuation for an equity.
\n
The current stock price is a prime example for Apple. The tech. giant has a huge history of growing over time, but Apple has also had a couple of periods in the last decade where revenues declined.
\n
The recent accelerated growth and shift to recurring services shouldn't alter one's view that Apple is still product-focused and will constantly run into down cycles. Investors must consider these likely outcomes when valuing the stock, but the current valuation is based on a recency bias of elevated growth in the last year.
\n
Data byYCharts
\n
Even after another sterling quarter, analyst estimates are still forecasting a period of up to 4 years where Apple doesn't generate revenue growth in excess of 6%. A lot of the stock price gains in the last few years are attributed all to expanding P/E multiples. One only has to go back to 2016 for when Apple only traded at 10x trailing earnings. In addition, the 5G iPhone cycle should advance these normal cycles with sales pushed from the normal quarter into the December quarter last year. Normal sales for the iPhone 13 in the September quarter will accelerate the tough comps in the December quarter and on into FY22.
\n
TheCounterpoint chart highlights how the iPhone 12/5G cycle has elevated sales to a level where Apple faces tough comps in FY22. Even selling iPhones at higher ASPs might not be enough to offset some declines in units sold.
\n
The crazy part here is that historical norms support Apple reporting some tough comps in the next year and going on to substantial growth in the next decade. Stocks that also increase their payouts are even better. That's because you could be collecting more dividend income just by simply holding on to the stock for the long term.

Three stocks that recently hiked their dividend payments include CareTrust REIT, Cenovus Energy, and Southern Company. Let's take a closer look at their dividend payments today, and whether investors should expect more rate increases from these stocks in the future.

1. CareTrust REIT

CareTrust is a healthcare-focused real estate investment trust (REIT) that pays an impressive yield of 6.6%. The stock has been falling this year amid general softness in the stock market and worries about a possible recession. However, that hasn't stopped the REIT from providing a top dividend. Last year, it was paying its shareholders $0.265 every quarter, and now that dividend payment is up to $0.275, representing an increase of 3.8%. On an annualized basis, that means investors are collecting $1.10 per share in dividend income.

Although REITs have to pay out 90% of their earnings back to investors, they rely on funds from operations (FFO) to evaluate the safety of their dividend payments. And CareTrust's FFO per share was $1.32 last year, which would be sufficient to cover its dividend today, and still leave plenty of room.

REITs like CareTrust that focus on healthcare (its portfolio is made up of skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and independent living facilities) are safe given the general stability of the healthcare industry. And that can make rent payments more stable and predictable than if you were to invest in a REIT that focuses on residential housing or retail properties.

With a high yield and room for more increases in the future, CareTrust could be an underrated dividend stock to buy today.

2. Cenovus Energy

Oil and natural gas producer Cenovus Energy recently reported a strong quarter due to high commodity prices. With oil prices at levels not seen in years, the stock has been a hot buy in 2022, soaring 53% year to date and dwarfing the S&P 500, which is down 12% over the same period.

The company's net earnings for the period ended March 31 totaled 1.6 billion Canadian dollars, for a year-over-year increase of 639%. It also reported free funds flow of CA$1.8 billion that was more than triple the prior-year period's tally of CA$594 million. Cenovus is confident that even if oil prices should fall, it can continue to perform well.

Notably, the company has tripled its annual dividend (which is paid quarterly) from CA$0.14 to CA$0.42. Cenovus believes the payout can be sustainable even if the price of West Texas Intermediate, a key benchmark for the industry, falls to around $45 per barrel -- and currently, it's more than double that price.

At 1.8%, Cenovus' yield is a bit higher than the S&P 500 average of 1.4%. However, given the uncertainty surrounding oil prices, I wouldn't expect the company to raise its dividend a whole lot higher -- and in the past, Cenovus slashed its dividend payments when oil prices were falling. But if you're bullish on the sector, this can be a great option to gain exposure to it while collecting a good dividend.

3. Southern Company

Southern is a utility company serving nine million customers across the country. For its investors, it has also been regularly increasing its dividend payments for decades. The latest increase, its 21st in a row, is no surprise for shareholders as the company says its long-term contracts allow it to generate predictable earnings numbers and enable it to consistently grow its dividend. The $0.02 hike is just as large as the one it announced last year. At $2.72 in dividends per share over the course of a full year, the stock now yields 3.7%.

The news of the hike came just before Southern announced its latest quarterly results, covering the first three months of 2022. Reported per-share earnings of $0.97 for the period were down $0.10 from a year ago. But on an adjusted basis, they remained nearly identical to the $0.98 that the company reported during the same period last year. Either way, the earnings leave plenty of room for Southern to cover its new quarterly dividend payment of $0.68 with ease.

The stability that this business offers, combined with Southern's track record of consistently raising payouts, makes it a safe bet that payouts will continue to increase for the foreseeable future. And that makes Southern a promising dividend stock for investors to buy and hold for years.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Dividend Stocks That Recently Hiked Their Payouts
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Dividend Stocks That Recently Hiked Their Payouts\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-05-06 11:34 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Dividend stocks that provide investors with regular, recurring payouts are incredibly valuable investments to hang on to for the long haul.
