I hence wish to retire from politics and all my positions in government,” said Tharman, 66, who is also Co-ordinating Minister for Social Policies, in a letter to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Thursday (Jun 7). PM Lee wished Tharman success in his new journey.Singapore’s next presidential election is due by mid-September and is an open election, meaning that is it open to candidates of all races.Prior to entering politics, Tharman spent most of his professional career at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). An economist by background, he served in many roles, including a two-year term as managing director in 2001.He made his political debut during the 2001 Singapore General Election as a candidate for Jurong Group Representation Constituency. Since then, he has been re-elected to Parliament four times. He was first appointed to the Cabinet as Minister for Education between 2003 and 2008. He later also served as Minister for Finance for nine years, between 2007 and 2015; and Minister for Manpower, between 2011 and 2012.In 2011, Tharman was appointed Deputy Prime Minister. He relinquished the role to become Senior Minister in 2019. He was also appointed Coordinating Minister for Social Policies in the same year to advise the Prime Minister on economic policies.Tharman has also served as MAS chairman since 2011, and was appointed the deputy chairman of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) in 2019. He currently chairs the Economic Development Board’s International Advisory Council, which convenes annually to discuss economic growth strategies for Singapore. On the world stage, Tharman has served in several international councils focused on economic and financial reform. He was chair of the Group of Thirty, an independent global council of economic and financial leaders from the public and private sectors between 2017 and 2022.He was previously appointed by his international peers as chairman of the International Monetary and Financial Committee, the key policy forum of the International Monetary Fund. He was its first Asian chair, and held the role for an extended period of four years from 2011.Other notable international appointments he has held include co-chair of the Advisory Board for the United Nation’s Human Development Report; co-chair of the Global Education Forum; and a member of the World Economic Forum’s Board of Trustees.Aside from Tharman, no other presidential hopefuls have yet to announce their bid. Current president Halimah Yacob announced late last month that after “very careful consideration”, she will not be running for a second term in the upcoming election.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":106,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":883980715,"gmtCreate":1631196253037,"gmtModify":1676530493801,"author":{"id":"4092134935477170","authorId":"4092134935477170","name":"Sgn532","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/51d96d4d5fa6a7b3291ad2b15994e5fd","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4092134935477170","authorIdStr":"4092134935477170"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"investor.do not trust.them.anymore. i wont buy any not worth it overprice.","listText":"investor.do not trust.them.anymore. i wont buy any not worth it overprice.","text":"investor.do not trust.them.anymore. i wont buy any not worth it overprice.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/883980715","repostId":"1109486521","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":355,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3582520228861009","authorId":"3582520228861009","name":"CPCat","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/3bafaf3d39abfb78a4bedf785310721a","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3582520228861009","authorIdStr":"3582520228861009"},"content":"yes, overpriced now... and going to be diluted with this share issuance.","text":"yes, overpriced now... and going to be diluted with this share issuance.","html":"yes, overpriced now... and going to be diluted with this share issuance."}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":831752989,"gmtCreate":1629352612741,"gmtModify":1676530012102,"author":{"id":"4092134935477170","authorId":"4092134935477170","name":"Sgn532","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/51d96d4d5fa6a7b3291ad2b15994e5fd","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4092134935477170","authorIdStr":"4092134935477170"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"hi i think thats loss right?","listText":"hi i think thats loss right?","text":"hi i think thats loss right?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/831752989","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":181,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":883980715,"gmtCreate":1631196253037,"gmtModify":1676530493801,"author":{"id":"4092134935477170","authorId":"4092134935477170","name":"Sgn532","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/51d96d4d5fa6a7b3291ad2b15994e5fd","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4092134935477170","authorIdStr":"4092134935477170"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"investor.do not trust.them.anymore. i wont buy any not worth it overprice.","listText":"investor.do not trust.them.anymore. i wont buy any not worth it overprice.","text":"investor.do not trust.them.anymore. i wont buy any not worth it overprice.","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/883980715","repostId":"1109486521","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1109486521","pubTimestamp":1631172960,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1109486521?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-09-09 15:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tencent-Backed Tech Giant Sea Taps Investors for About $6 Billion","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1109486521","media":"The Wall Street Journal","summary":"(Update: Sept 9, 2021 at 09:44 a.m. ET)\n\nSea says some of the proceeds would help expand its busines","content":"
(Update: Sept 9, 2021 at 09:44 a.m. ET)
\n
\n Sea says some of the proceeds would help expand its business, while funds could also be deployed on investments and acquisitions.\n
\n
Southeast Asia’s most valuable listed company, Sea Ltd., plans to raise about $6 billion or more in new funds, capitalizing on investor enthusiasm for the region’s fast-growing technology industry.
\n
TheTencent HoldingsLtd.TCEHY-2.95%-backed gaming, e-commerce and digital-finance company said in a filing late Wednesday that it would raise the capital by selling new shares and convertible bonds.
