Microsoft Mesh, its expertise in gaming as well as LinkedIn, to help drive the business social aspect of the metaverse.\"Microsoft is delivering on what many expect will be needed for the Metaverse,\" Moerdler wrote in a note to clients.\" While this potential next driver of growth is not part of our thesis today it could be a meaningful driver for numerous parts of the business.\"Microsoft (MSFT) shares are up more than 1% to $307.94in mid-day trading. There's a lot of hype surrounding the metaverse and just exactly what it will entail, but one thing is clear, Moerdler believes: that it will be good for enterprise software and different companies will see upside depending on what they offer and how it evolves.Though Microsoft (MSFT) is expected to be the \"big winner,\" according to Bernstein's Moerdler, other software companies are also likely to benefit, notably Adobe(NASDAQ:ADBE)and Salesforce.com(NYSE:CRM).Salesforce's acquisition of Slack is being integrated into its existing customer relationship management solutions and the company has been positive about the metaverse, particularly as it relates to marketing. \"We would expect to see meaningful investments by Salesforce in the Multiverse including one or more acquisitions to capture IP, market position, market share, and of course revenue,\" Moerdler explained.Adobe (ADBE) could see upside from its Creative Cloud suite, \"especially as more and different types of content creators will be required,\" Moerdler explained.Nonetheless, the firm believes that it is Microsoft (MSFT) that will likely benefit the most, as \"the best probability of success is going to be based, in our opinion, on those companies with the depth and breadth of functionality that could be required by the Metaverse as well as the market position and financial position to drive a successful outcome.\"On Thursday, Microsoft (MSFT)said it hired a law firm to look into the company's sexual harassment policies.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":86,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9005979966,"gmtCreate":1642161038337,"gmtModify":1676533687589,"author":{"id":"4092200993493910","authorId":"4092200993493910","name":"EYZQ","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4092200993493910","authorIdStr":"4092200993493910"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9005979966","repostId":"2203719758","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2203719758","pubTimestamp":1642158716,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2203719758?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-14 19:11","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Is Coinbase a Good Buy for 2022?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2203719758","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The stock is being dragged down by the dramatic sell-offs in technology stocks and cryptocurrency assets.","content":"

The capital markets ended 2021 with precipitous sell-offs in high-growth technology stocks. While Sony never officially announced when it would stop making the PS4, it had previously planned to discontinue assembly at the end of 2021, they said, asking not to be named as the plans are not public.

The strategy would add about a million PS4 units this year to help offset some of the pressure on the company’s PS5 production, a figure that will be adjusted in response to demand, the people said. The older console uses less advanced chips, is simpler to make and provides a budget-friendly alternative to the PS5.

Increasing production orders by adding the cheaper-to-make PS4 would also give Sony more leeway when negotiating with manufacturing partners for a better deal, two of the people said.

A Sony spokesperson confirmed PS4 production would continue this year and said the company had not planned to stop making the console. “It is one of the best-selling consoles ever and there is always crossover between generations,” the company said.

Sony’s ambition with the PlayStation 5 was to make a quick transition to the latest hardware, PlayStation chief Jim Ryan has said. But the coronavirus pandemic slowed software development across the games industry while also triggering a surge in hardware demand that’s made even the most basic of components scarce. The result has been a console that’s hard to find and lacks a strong portfolio of must-have exclusive games.

The predecessor PS4, released in 2013, has sold more than 116 million units to date and remains a popular option among players. It still provides a substantial portion of Sony’s gaming division income from subscriptions and software sales.

The PlayStation unit is grappling with a series of unanticipated challenges, including a slower-than-expected PS5 production pace and online scalpers choking off retail supply of the newer console. Extending PS4 availability is seen within the company as a means to fill the supply vacuum and keep gamers within the PlayStation ecosystem, according to a Sony official who is not authorized to speak publicly.

Among the most severe supply chain bottlenecks today are cheap general-purpose chips for audio, power and wireless communication functions. The older console uses less advanced chips, is simpler to make and provides a budget-friendly alternative to the PS5.Increasing production orders by adding the cheaper-to-make PS4 would also give Sony more leeway when negotiating with manufacturing partners for a better deal, two of the people said.A Sony spokesperson confirmed PS4 production would continue this year and said the company had not planned to stop making the console. “It is one of the best-selling consoles ever and there is always crossover between generations,” the company said.Sony’s ambition with the PlayStation 5 was to make a quick transition to the latest hardware, PlayStation chief Jim Ryan has said. Extending PS4 availability is seen within the company as a means to fill the supply vacuum and keep gamers within the PlayStation ecosystem, according to a Sony official who is not authorized to speak publicly.Among the most severe supply chain bottlenecks today are cheap general-purpose chips for audio, power and wireless communication functions. Some console makers have found that even offering a higher price won’t secure supply of such components as all current production has already been sold, according to the people. Even with finished consoles, distribution remains a challenge as shipping costs have escalated sharply. While gaming remains the biggest source of Sony’s revenue, the Japanese electronics giant is exploring new arenas to sustain growth. It’s preparing to release more powerful virtual reality headsets to take advantage of future games and applications in the so-called metaverse and is considering launching its own electric vehicles.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":55,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9006534370,"gmtCreate":1641779629272,"gmtModify":1676533647503,"author":{"id":"4092200993493910","authorId":"4092200993493910","name":"EYZQ","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4092200993493910","authorIdStr":"4092200993493910"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like","listText":"Like","text":"Like","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9006534370","repostId":"1108030484","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":341,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9006015460,"gmtCreate":1641551951007,"gmtModify":1676533628355,"author":{"id":"4092200993493910","authorId":"4092200993493910","name":"EYZQ","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4092200993493910","authorIdStr":"4092200993493910"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9006015460","repostId":"1124727053","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1124727053","pubTimestamp":1641549106,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1124727053?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-07 17:51","market":"us","language":"en","title":"58 Biggest Movers from Yesterday","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1124727053","media":"Benzinga","summary":"GainersEargo, Inc. shares climbed 59.7% to close at $7.28 on Thurs after the company announced the D","content":"

Gainers

Eargo, Inc. shares climbed 59.7% to close at $7.28 on Thurs after the company announced the Department of Justice confirmed to it that the previously-announced criminal probe is no long active.

Alterity Therapeutics Limited gained 33.8% to settle at $1.11 after the company announced it was granted a new US patent for "Compounds for and Methods of Treating Diseases."

China Natural Resources, Inc. surged 27.8% to close at $0.86.

Vocera Communications, Inc. climbed 26.6% to close at $79.17 after Stryker announced a definitive agreement to acquire the company.

Nanobiotix S.A. rose 22.2% to close at $9.85. Quarterly earnings season also ramps up as some of the big banks report results.

Market participants are bracing for another historically hot reading on inflation in the latest CPI data, due out on Wednesday. On a year-over-year basis, consumer prices likely surged by 7.1% in December, based on Bloomberg consensus data, accelerating even further from November's 6.8% year-over-year clip. This would mark the fastest rate since 1982, when CPI rose as much as 8.4% on a year-over-year basis.

And on a month-over-month basis, consumer prices likely rose by 0.4% in December, slowing from November's 0.8% rise but still marking an eighteenth consecutive month of increases.

"Recent months have seen consistent upside surprises as inflation has increasingly broadened out, and it's now the case that seven of the last nine CPI releases have seen the monthly headline increase come in above the consensus among economists on Bloomberg, which just demonstrates how this has taken a lot of people by surprise," Deutsche Bank economists Henry Allen and Jim Reid said in a note.

"Our U.S. economists are projecting that year-on-year inflation will move higher once again, with an increase to +7.0%," they added. "Interestingly though, they think we could be at a turning point with December marking the peak in the year-on-year readings, which they then project will fall back over 2022 and be at +3.0% by this December ahead."

Excluding more volatile food and energy prices, consumer prices likely rose at a 5.4% year-over-year rate in December, also speeding from November's 4.9% pace and coming in at the fastest since 1991.

While price increases have been broad-based in the recovering economy, some economists said rising vehicle prices will likely be one of the main drivers of inflation at year-end.

"The main story will be the increase in autos inflation, with used cars the primary driver," Bank of America economists led by Ethan Harris wrote in a note Friday. "Manheim data showed wholesale used car prices spiking 9.2% [month-over-month] in October, following a 5.3% increase in September. Given a roughly 2-month lag, this sends a signal of incredible strength for CPI used cars this month."

Used car and truck prices had risen 2.5% month-on-month in November, matching the prior month's rise, based on BLS data.

"Outside of autos, we expect further gains in household furnishings and supplies and apparel, reflecting tight supply chains and fewer discounts as the holiday shopping season draws to a close," Harris added.

The December CPI will also be carefully parsed by investors as they gauge the next moves by the Federal Reserve, as some officials eye a quicker shift away from accommodative policies to rein in inflation.

Last week, the Fed's December meeting minutes suggested some officials favored speeding the central bank's asset-purchase tapering and hastening the timing of an initial interest rate hike from current near-zero levels. And against a backdrop of a "stronger economic outlook [and] higher inflation," some officials also suggested they were contemplating the start of reducing the nearly $9 trillion in assets on the central bank's balance sheet. Hints that the Fed was considering tightening policy in the near-term sent equity markets into a tailspin last week.

"The market does have to adjust to what is a surprise in terms of how aggressive the Federal Reserve may be in managing the economy around inflation," Rob Haworth, U.S. Bank Wealth Management senior investment strategist, told Yahoo Finance Livelast week.

Investors may also receive more commentary about how key members of the Federal Reserve expect to approach inflation with their monetary policy toolkit in two confirmation hearings before Congress this week. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's nomination hearing for a second term is set to take place before the Senate Banking Committee on Tuesday — or a day before the December CPI is released. However, Fed Governor Lael Brainard's nomination hearing to become vice chair of the Fed will take place on Thursday before the Senate Banking Committee, after the release of the latest inflation data.

Bank earnings

This week, investors will also see a pick-up in earnings reports, as some of the largest U.S. banks deliver their quarterly results at the end of the week. JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Citigroup (C) and Wells Fargo (WFC) are each slated to report Friday morning before the opening bell.

The results come following a strong run for bank stocks, with financials currently the second-best performing sector in the S&P 500 in 2022, after energy. TheXLF, or exchange-traded fund tracking the financials sector, hit a record high on Friday and logged its best week since February 2021.

Expectations for higher interest rates this year have been one major factor lifting these shares, given that banks' core lending businesses benefit from rising rates. On Friday, the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rose to approximately 1.8%, or its highest level since January 2020. And robust market activity over the past year likely also helped further lift banks' trading operations.

"As far as the financials go, we think they're going to be pretty good. This last year has seen a lot of trading activity," Scott Ladner, Horizon Investments chief investment officer, told Yahoo Finance Live on Friday."And as we've seen, what's going on right now with respect to yield curve, the yield curve steepened this week."

As fourth-quarter earnings begin to ramp up, many analysts are expecting to see another solid reporting season. However, the estimates are also taking into account slowing momentum after soaring earnings growth rates from earlier last year, helped in large part by easy comparisons to 2020's pandemic-depressed levels.

S&P 500 earnings in aggregate are expected to grow 21.7% for the fourth-quarter of 2021, according to data from FactSet's John Butters as of Friday.
