the nati","content":"

BALMORAL, Scotland, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Queen Elizabeth, Britain's longest-reigning monarch, the nation's figurehead and a towering presence on the world stage for seven decades, died peacefully at her home in Scotland on Thursday aged 96.

"The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family," the new king, her eldest son Charles, said.

"We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world," the 73-year-old said in a statement.

News that the queen's health was deteriorating emerged shortly after midday on Thursday when her doctors said she was under medical supervision, prompting her family to rush to Scotland to be by her side.

Thousands gathered outside Buckingham Palace, in central London, and there was a stunned silence when the flag was lowered to half-mast. The crowd surged to the gates as the notice announcing the death of the only monarch most Britons have ever known was attached to the black iron gates.

Royal officials said King Charles III and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, would remain at Balmoral Castle, where the queen died, before returning to London on Friday, when he is expected to address the nation and meet Prime Minister Liz Truss. Details of the funeral have not been confirmed.

On Elizabeth's death, Charles automatically became monarch of the United Kingdom and the head of state of 14 other realms including Australia, Canada and New Zealand. He is expected to visit all the nations of the United Kingdom in the coming days.

'HUGE SHOCK TO THE NATION'

The queen, whose husband died last year, had been suffering from what Buckingham Palace had called "episodic mobility problems" since the end of last year, forcing her to withdraw from nearly all her public engagements.

Her last official duty came only on Tuesday, when she appointed Truss prime minister - the 15th of her reign.

"The death of Her Majesty the Queen is a huge shock to the nation and to the world," Truss said outside her Downing Street office where the flag, like those at royal palaces and government buildings across Britain, were lowered.

"Through thick and thin, Queen Elizabeth II provided us with the stability and the strength that we needed. She was the very spirit of Great Britain – and that spirit will endure," said Truss, who was informed of the death at 4:30 p.m. London time.

The news stunned not only people in Britain, with condolences pouring in from leaders around the world.

"Her legacy will loom large in the pages of British history, and in the story of our world," U.S. President Joe Biden said in a statement. He ordered flags at the White House to be flown at half-mast

In Paris, the mayor announced the lights of the Eiffel Tower would be turned off in honour of her passing; in Brazil, the government declared three days of mourning; and the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council both stood for a moment of silence.

Even Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose country's relations with Britain have plummeted over the war in Ukraine, extended his condolences, calling it an "irreparable loss".

Queen Elizabeth II, who was also the world's oldest and longest-serving head of state, came to the throne following the death of her father King George VI on Feb. 6, 1952, when she was just 25.

PLEDGED TO SERVE

She was crowned in June the following year. The first televised coronation was a foretaste of a new world in which the lives of the royals were to become increasingly scrutinised by the media.

"I have in sincerity pledged myself to your service, as so many of you are pledged to mine. Throughout all my life and with all my heart I shall strive to be worthy of your trust," she said in a speech to her subjects on her coronation day.

Despite reputedly only being about 5ft 3ins tall, she commanded any room she entered. Famed for her bright outfits, she is said to have quipped: "I have to be seen to be believed".

Elizabeth became monarch at a time when Britain still retained much of its old empire. It was emerging from the ravages of World War Two, with food rationing still in force and class and privilege still dominant in society.

Winston Churchill was Britain's prime minister at the time, Josef Stalin led the Soviet Union and the Korean War was raging.

In the decades that followed, Elizabeth witnessed massive political change and social upheaval at home and abroad. Her own family's tribulations, most notably the divorce of Charles and his late first wife Diana, were played out in full public glare.

While remaining an enduring symbol of stability and continuity for Britons at a time of relative national economic decline, Elizabeth also tried to adapt the ancient institution of monarchy to the demands of the modern era.

"She has managed to modernise and evolve the monarchy like no other," her grandson Prince William, who is now heir to the throne, said in a 2012 documentary.

RECORDS

Elizabeth was the 40th monarch in a royal line that followed Norman King William the Conqueror, who claimed the English throne in 1066 after defeating Anglo-Saxon ruler Harold II at the Battle of Hastings.

Her long reign meant she repeatedly broke records for British rulers. When she surpassed the more than 63 years her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria spent on the throne, she said it was not a landmark to which she had ever aspired.

"Inevitably a long life can pass by many milestones - my own is no exception," she said.

Her marriage to Prince Philip lasted 73 years, until his death in April 2021, and they had four children, Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward.

She never gave a media interviewand critics said she came across as distant and aloof.

But for the vast majority of her subjects she was a figure who commanded respect and admiration. This includes concerns about macro economic factors like inflation, interest rates, and war. It also includes supply chain issues caused by shut-downs in China.

Between being closed because of Covid-19 lockdowns and then feeling the impact of those lockdowns on the supply chain, Tesla’sShanghai plant has seen production slump.

However, TSLA stock has also been hit by unique challenges. Like CEO Elon Musk deciding he’d like to battle for ownership of social media platform Twitter(NYSE:TWTR). Or Elon Musk mandating employees return to the office or quit while ruminating about layoffs and musing that he feels “super bad” about the economy.

The Twitter drama in particular has been costly for Tesla shareholders, with TSLA stock losing a third of its value since it began in early April.

However, things may be in the process of turning around for TSLA. On Thursday, it was reported thatUBS analyst Patrick Hummelhad upgraded Tesla stock from “neutral” to “buy.” In addition, Hummel set a $1,100 price target.

Tesla stock popped Thursday in response, but remains down by roughly 37% in 2022. This upgrade may just be the latest sign the time is right to buy TSLA stock for your own portfolio.

Why UBS Is So Bullish on Tesla

Why did UBS choose now to upgrade its Tesla rating? As reported by Teslarati, Patrick Hummel cited three main reasons:

Record-high order backlog with two new gigafactories ramping up production

Improving margins driven by increased prices and process innovation

A competitive edge for Tesla in key supply chains

In addition, Hummel feels that Tesla’s vertical integration in chips, battery systems, and software will pay off with superior growth and profitability.

What About the Shanghai Shutdown?

Assuming the Twitter situation has stabilized for the moment, the biggest potential downside to TSLA stock is the ripple effects of the company’s Shanghai plant shutdown. With a 22-day closure in April followed by reduced production and the Covid-19 lockdown’s impact on EV sales in China, the news on that front is not going to be good.

However, it’s important to recognize that this was a limited time event. Production is ramping back up. Chinese EV demand is ramping back up. Any hit to TSLA stock when the production and delivery stats for this quarter are released is going to be temporary.

Bottom Line

UBS is making a strong case for Tesla stock to recover from its 2022 weakness. What about other investment analysts, though?

Well, TSLA stock continues to earn an “A” rating in Portfolio Grader. It’s a great pick for someone looking to add a proven, long-term growth stock to their portfolio. At current prices, the nearly 40% discount compared to November 2021 highs makes TSLA stock very tempting. This includes concerns about macro economic factors like inflation, interest rates, and war. It also includes supply chain issues caused by shut-downs in China.Between being closed because of Covid-19 lockdowns and then feeling the impact of those lockdowns on the supply chain, Tesla’sShanghai plant has seen production slump. On Thursday, it was reported thatUBS analyst Patrick Hummelhad upgraded Tesla stock from “neutral” to “buy.” In addition, Hummel set a $1,100 price target.Tesla stock popped Thursday in response, but remains down by roughly 37% in 2022. This upgrade may just be the latest sign the time is right to buy TSLA stock for your own portfolio. Why UBS Is So Bullish on TeslaWhy did UBS choose now to upgrade its Tesla rating? As reported by Teslarati, Patrick Hummel cited three main reasons:Record-high order backlog with two new gigafactories ramping up productionImproving margins driven by increased prices and process innovationA competitive edge for Tesla in key supply chainsIn addition, Hummel feels that Tesla’s vertical integration in chips, battery systems, and software will pay off with superior growth and profitability. What About the Shanghai Shutdown?Assuming the Twitter situation has stabilized for the moment, the biggest potential downside to TSLA stock is the ripple effects of the company’s Shanghai plant shutdown. With a 22-day closure in April followed by reduced production and the Covid-19 lockdown’s impact on EV sales in China, the news on that front is not going to be good. However, it’s important to recognize that this was a limited time event. Production is ramping back up. Chinese EV demand is ramping back up. Any hit to TSLA stock when the production and delivery stats for this quarter are released is going to be temporary.Bottom LineUBS is making a strong case for Tesla stock to recover from its 2022 weakness. What about other investment analysts, though?Well, TSLA stock continues to earn an “A” rating in Portfolio Grader. It’s a great pick for someone looking to add a proven, long-term growth stock to their portfolio. At current prices, the nearly 40% discount compared to November 2021 highs makes TSLA stock very tempting. Especially given the surge in popularity of EVs.Checking in with investment analysts tracked by CNN Money, they have TSLArated as a consensus “buy.”Their median price target of $1,000 isn’t quite as aggressive as UBS’s, but it still offers a very respectable 31% upside.Tesla stock may still have a bumpy road ahead in the short-term. While the S&P 500 long ago regained its pre-Covid highs, Coca-Cola (ticker: KO) finished 2021 up 8% at $59.21, still a touch below its all-time high of $60.13 reached on Feb. 21, 2021 (although above its dividend-adjusted high of $56.36). Adding to the disappointment, shares of PepsiCo (PEP) soared above their 2020 highs and finished 2021 up 17%.

What a difference a new year makes. Coca-Cola has had a rip-roaring start to 2021, gaining 1.9% to close the first week of January at $60.33, finally busting through to a new high. It’s also outpaced Pepsi, which gained just 0.2% this past week. Don’t be surprised if that outperformance continues.

Coca-Cola had plenty of headwinds following the onset of the pandemic. It relies on restaurants and other venues for a larger portion of its sales than Pepsi, and it was also shuttering smaller brands like Tab, Zico coconut water, and Odwalla, as well as some regional brands, over the course of the year. Nor does the beverage titan have the enormous snack business of Pepsi’s Frito-Lay.

All this, however, should make 2022 a better year for Coca-Cola, writes Guggenheim analyst Laurent Grandet, who upgraded the stock to Buy from Neutral this past Tuesday. He notes that the so-called on-premise business is improving at a faster-than-expected pace, while the company has become more focused on what is working. Emerging markets are also improving. As a result, Grandet sees Coke’s earnings per share growing at a 12% annualized clip through 2023, hitting $2.71 that year. That should help drive the stock higher.

Coca-Cola also has room for its valuation to increase. It trades at 24.8 times 12-month forward earnings expectations, according to FactSet, a discount to Pepsi’s 25.8 times. “[We] think the shares will catch the lost ground in early ’22,” writes Grandet, who raised his price target to $66.

It’s not all clear sailing. Looming over the company is a tax dispute with the Internal Revenue Service that could result in a $12 billion hit, says CFRA analyst Garrett Nelson. While that’s frightening, he argues that Coke should be able to offset it with improved concentrate sales and better pricing.

“In our view, the pending resolution of its IRS tax case…will lift a major overhang, allowing investors to focus on KO’s fundamentals and strong underlying momentum from the rebound in on-premise sales and robust pricing environment,” writes Nelson, who also upgraded Coca-Cola stock this past week. He sees shares trading to $68, up 13% from Friday’s close.

To which we say, have a Coke and a smile.

","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Coca-Cola Just Got Sweeter.
