Block</p><p>Block has placed itself at the center of fintech in many developed countries. Its business-oriented Square ecosystem and its Cash App continue to grow by expanding into new markets and broadening its scope of business within existing countries.</p><p>Block just entered its eighth country early this year by bringing its ecosystem into Spain. Now, due to its presence in three EU countries, the company once known as Square has an easier path to serving the rest of the Eurozone.</p><p>Moreover, it added cryptocurrency capabilities with its <b>Bitcoin</b> trading platform in both Square and Cash App. This likely helped it almost catch up to <b>PayPal Holdings</b>&#39; Venmo in terms of popularity. Also, according to Research and Markets, the addressable market for fintech is expected to reach $31.5 trillion by 2026, a 27% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) that should bring opportunities for lots of companies in this sector, including Square.</p><p>Block increased its 2021 revenue by 86% compared with 2020, 57% if excluding Bitcoin. This led to adjusted earnings of $898 million in the same period, 111% higher than year-ago levels. Analysts only expect 7% revenue growth in 2022 before it rebounds to 22% the next year.</p><p>Still, the stock has lost more than half of its value since its peak last summer. With a price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of about 4, it has fallen from the double-digit sales multiples of early last year. This makes it more reasonably priced as Block seeks to meet the financial needs of more businesses and individuals.</p><p>2. DigitalOcean</p><p>At first glance, companies such as <b>Amazon</b> and <b>Microsoft</b> dominate the cloud industry and cater their services to lots of big names. However, their product offerings are not really catered to the specific needs of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). DigitalOcean has built a high-growth enterprise by filling that gap. But while it offers simple, affordable pricing plans tailored to the needs of SMEs, its most vital advantage seems to lie in its community. Members of this community give and receive advice, helping these businesses resolve IT challenges that might otherwise hamper smaller enterprises.</p><p>Also, DigitalOcean already claims about 600,000 customers in 185 countries. and the cloud market should also leave plenty of room for company growth. Grand View Research estimates the cloud infrastructure market will grow to $1.55 trillion by 2030, up from $484 billion today.</p><p>DigitalOcean&#39;s 2021 revenue of $429 million makes up only a tiny fraction of that addressable market, though that was a 35% increase compared with 2020. Moreover, it cut its yearly loss to about $20 million, down from $44 million in 2020. Furthermore, revenue estimates for between $564 million and $568 million amount to 32% growth if the estimate holds, pointing to little if any slowdowns.</p><p>Additionally, the stock has dropped 55% from its November high, taking its P/S ratio down to around 13. While this is higher than its larger competitors, a lower stock price and rapid revenue growth rate should take this stock much higher as the need for the cloud within SMEs continues to expand.</p><p>3. Roku</p><p>Roku has managed to capitalize on the transition of televised media to streaming. Through its aggregation of services and the offering of its Roku platform and channel, it provides an avenue by which companies can fund programming through advertising.</p><p>Furthermore, Roku continues its expansion into Europe and Latin America, giving it leverage as companies like <b>Alphabet</b> attempt to compete. Additionally, the company has integrated its operating system into new televisions and offered its equipment at a low cost, easing the adoption of its platform.</p><p>Roku claimed about 60 million users as of the end of 2021. Also, Research and Markets forecasts that the global digital advertising market will grow to $764 billion by 2025 and to $1.45 trillion by 2030 for a CAGR of 13.7%. Roku appears well-positioned to capture much of this increase as it currently only operates in roughly 20 countries and has plans for further expansion.</p><p>So far, Roku has barely begun to scratch the surface of its potential. In 2021, it generated almost $2.8 billion in revenue, 55% more than in 2020. The revenue growth helped the company earn $242 million in net income, an improvement from the $18 million loss in 2020.</p><p>Admittedly, the first-quarter outlook for 25% year-over-year revenue growth represents a slowdown. Still, the stock has fallen by about 75% from its high last July. Also, the P/S ratio now stands at six, down from 33 last February. But while it offers simple, affordable pricing plans tailored to the needs of SMEs, its most vital advantage seems to lie in its community. Members of this community give and receive advice, helping these businesses resolve IT challenges that might otherwise hamper smaller enterprises.Also, DigitalOcean already claims about 600,000 customers in 185 countries. and the cloud market should also leave plenty of room for company growth. Grand View Research estimates the cloud infrastructure market will grow to $1.55 trillion by 2030, up from $484 billion today.DigitalOcean's 2021 revenue of $429 million makes up only a tiny fraction of that addressable market, though that was a 35% increase compared with 2020. Moreover, it cut its yearly loss to about $20 million, down from $44 million in 2020. Additionally, the company has integrated its operating system into new televisions and offered its equipment at a low cost, easing the adoption of its platform.Roku claimed about 60 million users as of the end of 2021. Also, Research and Markets forecasts that the global digital advertising market will grow to $764 billion by 2025 and to $1.45 trillion by 2030 for a CAGR of 13.7%. Roku appears well-positioned to capture much of this increase as it currently only operates in roughly 20 countries and has plans for further expansion.So far, Roku has barely begun to scratch the surface of its potential. In 2021, it generated almost $2.8 billion in revenue, 55% more than in 2020. In the last six months of 2021, the company was able to secure sales contracts totaling 4.25 million tons per year of production for at least the next 13 years. Those contracts will help to justify management&#39;s planned 10 million-ton-per-year expansion at its Texas export facility. For those counting at home, the company&#39;s current facilities can produce and ship 45 million tones of LNG per year.</p><p>This is the largest growth project on the horizon for Cheniere, but investors don&#39;t need to wait for that project to see considerable returns. Its current operations are profitable and throwing off a lot of free cash flow. That cash has allowed management to instate a major shareholder return program that will include paying down $1 billion in debt annually for the next three years, pay a dividend of $1.33 per share -- a yield of 1.15% -- and a $1 billion share repurchase program.</p><p>The combination of a clear line of sight to considerable growth, a current operation that is throwing off cash by the truckload, and a management team willing to share the riches with shareholders make Cheniere an attractive buy-and-hold investment right now.</p><h2>A fast-growing renewable power producer with the backing of a big utility</h2><p>Investors who have looked at the utility sector have undoubtedly come across<b> NextEra Energy</b> (NYSE:NEE). It&#39;s the largest utility in the U.S. and has been a market-crushing stock over the past decade. What is less known, though, is that it has a publicly traded subsidiary that&#39;s growing even faster.</p><p>NextEra, the parent company, sells long-term contracted renewable power assets to NextEra Energy Partners once they are developed. NextEra gets the cash to develop even more assets, and NextEra Energy Partners investors get a stable portfolio of power generating assets that throw off lots of cash to pay a generous dividend. It&#39;s a relationship that worked well for investors as NextEra Energy Partners&#39; total returns -- dividends and share price gains -- are higher than NextEra Energy&#39;s over the past five years.</p><p>The <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> potential hang-up for investors is that NextEra Energy Partners&#39; growth is wholly reliant on the parent company&#39;s decisions. While there is no reason right now to think that the parent company will stop selling assets to the partnership, there is always the chance that management could change course in the future.</p><p>But, if management continues on its current plan, then investors can expect good things for the next several years. Management is projecting distribution growth in the range of 12% to 15% per year through 2024, and that number isn&#39;t too far off from what it has achieved in the past five. The oil and gas industry has not done well over the past five years, and Enterprise has been no exception. Its pipelines, petrochemical facilities, and other energy infrastructure operations continued to perform well over that time, but it hasn&#39;t necessarily translated into shareholder returns.</p><p>Enterprise has been in the middle of a strategic change that has affected its payout to investors. Management wanted to be less reliant on debt and equity to fund future growth. So to free up cash from operations, it slammed the brakes on payout growth for several years. The company sells 3D imaging technology that allows businesses to create &#34;digital twins&#34; of physical spaces to upload and analyze on the cloud. Matterport helps hospitality companies share images and give virtual tours of homes or rooms for guests. As the only player in the space that does this for dozens of industries ranging from hospitality to insurance, Matterport has gained over 439,000 customers.</p><p>This technology could be incredibly useful in spurring the growth of the metaverse. For individual users who want to bring an image of their favorite park or a part of their house to the metaverse, all they would have to do is take a 3D picture of it with Matterport. The company&#39;s technology is available on most smartphones, so doing this is extremely easy for users. If the metaverse becomes mainstream and billions of people use it, Matterport&#39;s business could explode.</p><p>Even without the metaverse, however, Matterport has great potential as an investment. Management projects it has a $240 billion market opportunity in its current industry. As the first mover and market leader in this 3D capture space, Matterport could grow rapidly. As of Sept. 30, the company was generated $111 million in annualized revenue, leaving an extremely large opportunity ahead of it. As the world becomes more digital and both consumers and companies want to do more in the cloud, Matterport&#39;s products could become more critical to business operations.</p><p>With all this potential, the business also comes with a high valuation and some stock price volatility. The company went public through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) that was initially announced in February and finalized in mid-July. Since finalizing, shares are up about 11%, but they are also about 52% down from 52-week highs set in late November. Yet the company still trades at over 34 times its annualized revenue -- an extremely high multiple.</p><p>In 2022, shares could once again be on the rise if the metaverse continues gaining traction. For long-term investors willing to wait and see if the metaverse pans out, the rewards could be immense.</p><h2>2. Unity Software</h2><p>While Matterport could help build scenery and locations in the metaverse, Unity Software has the potential to provide the foundation for the companies creating the metaverse. The company currently offers game developers software to build, monetize, and operate their video games, regardless of platform, and adjusting the software to allow developers to build a metaverse shouldn&#39;t be much of a stretch. CEO John Riccitiello recently told analysts that Unity is working to have between 60% and 80% of metaverse content built using Unity&#39;s software.</p><p>Like Matterport, Unity has a robust business model even without the metaverse. The company is a leading game development platform, with around 71% of the top 1,000 mobile games being created with Unity&#39;s platform. The company has over 1.5 million active developers on its platform, and Unity helps with more than just developing games but also monetizing them. Monetization efforts include ads and in-app purchase capabilities, which developers buy for a subscription. This segment is the largest part of Unity, bringing in 65% of its $286 million in third-quarter revenue. The company is growing incredibly fast, with its top line growing 43% year over year in Q3 and its full-year guidance estimating 40% top-line growth year over year.</p><p>Unity&#39;s strong past success, continued fast growth, and future potential, have combined to make the stock somewhat expensive. Shares trade at 39 times sales, which is higher than other video game stocks like <b>Activision Blizzard</b>, which trades at six times sales.</p><p>The biggest risk for Unity involves its current lack of profits. The company lost $115 million in Q3, a hefty amount of money considering its Q3 revenue was just $286 million. However, this net loss decreased year over year from $145 million. Another good sign is that the company is free cash flow-positive, going from $11 million in free cash flow in Q3 2020 to $35 million in Q3 2021.</p><p>The stock is by no means cheap right now, but it is trading over 42% off its 52-week high. With companies that are executing well, there is rarely a time where shares are cheap, so now might be a good time to get in at a discount. Both stocks are trading down more than 30% from their all-time highs set in 2021, and with the rapid growth of the metaverse and their respective industries, these two stocks have real potential for a nice bull run in 2022.Image source: Getty Images.1. MatterportMatterport is a sneaky metaverse play. The company sells 3D imaging technology that allows businesses to create \"digital twins\" of physical spaces to upload and analyze on the cloud. Matterport helps hospitality companies share images and give virtual tours of homes or rooms for guests. As the only player in the space that does this for dozens of industries ranging from hospitality to insurance, Matterport has gained over 439,000 customers.This technology could be incredibly useful in spurring the growth of the metaverse. For individual users who want to bring an image of their favorite park or a part of their house to the metaverse, all they would have to do is take a 3D picture of it with Matterport. The company's technology is available on most smartphones, so doing this is extremely easy for users. If the metaverse becomes mainstream and billions of people use it, Matterport's business could explode.Even without the metaverse, however, Matterport has great potential as an investment. Management projects it has a $240 billion market opportunity in its current industry. As the first mover and market leader in this 3D capture space, Matterport could grow rapidly. As of Sept. 30, the company was generated $111 million in annualized revenue, leaving an extremely large opportunity ahead of it. As the world becomes more digital and both consumers and companies want to do more in the cloud, Matterport's products could become more critical to business operations.With all this potential, the business also comes with a high valuation and some stock price volatility. The company went public through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) that was initially announced in February and finalized in mid-July. Since finalizing, shares are up about 11%, but they are also about 52% down from 52-week highs set in late November. Yet the company still trades at over 34 times its annualized revenue -- an extremely high multiple.In 2022, shares could once again be on the rise if the metaverse continues gaining traction. For long-term investors willing to wait and see if the metaverse pans out, the rewards could be immense.2. Unity SoftwareWhile Matterport could help build scenery and locations in the metaverse, Unity Software has the potential to provide the foundation for the companies creating the metaverse. The company currently offers game developers software to build, monetize, and operate their video games, regardless of platform, and adjusting the software to allow developers to build a metaverse shouldn't be much of a stretch. CEO John Riccitiello recently told analysts that Unity is working to have between 60% and 80% of metaverse content built using Unity's software.Like Matterport, Unity has a robust business model even without the metaverse. The company is a leading game development platform, with around 71% of the top 1,000 mobile games being created with Unity's platform. The company has over 1.5 million active developers on its platform, and Unity helps with more than just developing games but also monetizing them. Monetization efforts include ads and in-app purchase capabilities, which developers buy for a subscription. This segment is the largest part of Unity, bringing in 65% of its $286 million in third-quarter revenue. The company is growing incredibly fast, with its top line growing 43% year over year in Q3 and its full-year guidance estimating 40% top-line growth year over year.Unity's strong past success, continued fast growth, and future potential, have combined to make the stock somewhat expensive. Shares trade at 39 times sales, which is higher than other video game stocks like Activision Blizzard, which trades at six times sales.The biggest risk for Unity involves its current lack of profits. The company lost $115 million in Q3, a hefty amount of money considering its Q3 revenue was just $286 million. However, this net loss decreased year over year from $145 million. Another good sign is that the company is free cash flow-positive, going from $11 million in free cash flow in Q3 2020 to $35 million in Q3 2021.The stock is by no means cheap right now, but it is trading over 42% off its 52-week high. With companies that are executing well, there is rarely a time where shares are cheap, so now might be a good time to get in at a discount. Also, according to Research and Markets, the addressable market for fintech is expected to reach $31.5 trillion by 2026, a 27% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) that should bring opportunities for lots of companies in this sector, including Square.</p><p>Block increased its 2021 revenue by 86% compared with 2020, 57% if excluding Bitcoin. This led to adjusted earnings of $898 million in the same period, 111% higher than year-ago levels. Analysts only expect 7% revenue growth in 2022 before it rebounds to 22% the next year.</p><p>Still, the stock has lost more than half of its value since its peak last summer. With a price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of about 4, it has fallen from the double-digit sales multiples of early last year. This makes it more reasonably priced as Block seeks to meet the financial needs of more businesses and individuals.</p><p>2. DigitalOcean</p><p>At first glance, companies such as <b>Amazon</b> and <b>Microsoft</b> dominate the cloud industry and cater their services to lots of big names. However, their product offerings are not really catered to the specific needs of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). DigitalOcean has built a high-growth enterprise by filling that gap. But while it offers simple, affordable pricing plans tailored to the needs of SMEs, its most vital advantage seems to lie in its community. Members of this community give and receive advice, helping these businesses resolve IT challenges that might otherwise hamper smaller enterprises.</p><p>Also, DigitalOcean already claims about 600,000 customers in 185 countries. and the cloud market should also leave plenty of room for company growth. Grand View Research estimates the cloud infrastructure market will grow to $1.55 trillion by 2030, up from $484 billion today.</p><p>DigitalOcean&#39;s 2021 revenue of $429 million makes up only a tiny fraction of that addressable market, though that was a 35% increase compared with 2020. Moreover, it cut its yearly loss to about $20 million, down from $44 million in 2020. Furthermore, revenue estimates for between $564 million and $568 million amount to 32% growth if the estimate holds, pointing to little if any slowdowns.</p><p>Additionally, the stock has dropped 55% from its November high, taking its P/S ratio down to around 13. Through its aggregation of services and the offering of its Roku platform and channel, it provides an avenue by which companies can fund programming through advertising.</p><p>Furthermore, Roku continues its expansion into Europe and Latin America, giving it leverage as companies like <b>Alphabet</b> attempt to compete. Additionally, the company has integrated its operating system into new televisions and offered its equipment at a low cost, easing the adoption of its platform.</p><p>Roku claimed about 60 million users as of the end of 2021. Also, Research and Markets forecasts that the global digital advertising market will grow to $764 billion by 2025 and to $1.45 trillion by 2030 for a CAGR of 13.7%. Roku appears well-positioned to capture much of this increase as it currently only operates in roughly 20 countries and has plans for further expansion.</p><p>So far, Roku has barely begun to scratch the surface of its potential. In 2021, it generated almost $2.8 billion in revenue, 55% more than in 2020. The revenue growth helped the company earn $242 million in net income, an improvement from the $18 million loss in 2020.</p><p>Admittedly, the first-quarter outlook for 25% year-over-year revenue growth represents a slowdown. Still, the stock has fallen by about 75% from its high last July. Here&#39;s why these three energy stocks are ideal candidates for a buy-and-hold portfolio.</p><h2>The market is giving the &#34;full steam ahead&#34; signal for Cheniere</h2><p>A decision as big as building or expanding a liquid natural gas (LNG) facility means a lot of things need to go right. These types of investments need to be profitable for decades, so a management team has to be sure that demand for its product will be there for decades into the future.</p><p>Fortunately for natural gas exporter Cheniere Energy, the market seems to be saying that there is plenty of demand out. In the last six months of 2021, the company was able to secure sales contracts totaling 4.25 million tons per year of production for at least the next 13 years. Those contracts will help to justify management&#39;s planned 10 million-ton-per-year expansion at its Texas export facility. For those counting at home, the company&#39;s current facilities can produce and ship 45 million tones of LNG per year.</p><p>This is the largest growth project on the horizon for Cheniere, but investors don&#39;t need to wait for that project to see considerable returns. Its current operations are profitable and throwing off a lot of free cash flow. That cash has allowed management to instate a major shareholder return program that will include paying down $1 billion in debt annually for the next three years, pay a dividend of $1.33 per share -- a yield of 1.15% -- and a $1 billion share repurchase program.</p><p>The combination of a clear line of sight to considerable growth, a current operation that is throwing off cash by the truckload, and a management team willing to share the riches with shareholders make Cheniere an attractive buy-and-hold investment right now.</p><h2>A fast-growing renewable power producer with the backing of a big utility</h2><p>Investors who have looked at the utility sector have undoubtedly come across<b> NextEra Energy</b> (NYSE:NEE). It&#39;s the largest utility in the U.S. and has been a market-crushing stock over the past decade. What is less known, though, is that it has a publicly traded subsidiary that&#39;s growing even faster.</p><p>NextEra, the parent company, sells long-term contracted renewable power assets to NextEra Energy Partners once they are developed. NextEra gets the cash to develop even more assets, and NextEra Energy Partners investors get a stable portfolio of power generating assets that throw off lots of cash to pay a generous dividend. It&#39;s a relationship that worked well for investors as NextEra Energy Partners&#39; total returns -- dividends and share price gains -- are higher than NextEra Energy&#39;s over the past five years.</p><p>The <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> potential hang-up for investors is that NextEra Energy Partners&#39; growth is wholly reliant on the parent company&#39;s decisions. While there is no reason right now to think that the parent company will stop selling assets to the partnership, there is always the chance that management could change course in the future.</p><p>But, if management continues on its current plan, then investors can expect good things for the next several years. Management is projecting distribution growth in the range of 12% to 15% per year through 2024, and that number isn&#39;t too far off from what it has achieved in the past five. The oil and gas industry has not done well over the past five years, and Enterprise has been no exception. Its pipelines, petrochemical facilities, and other energy infrastructure operations continued to perform well over that time, but it hasn&#39;t necessarily translated into shareholder returns.</p><p>Enterprise has been in the middle of a strategic change that has affected its payout to investors. Management wanted to be less reliant on debt and equity to fund future growth. So to free up cash from operations, it slammed the brakes on payout growth for several years. Sure, the payout was never cut and the business remained as stable as it always has been, but growth was tepid.</p><p>Fortunately, it looks as if its finances have turned the corner and it can get back to rewarding shareholders again. Earlier this month, management announced both a 3.3% increase to its quarterly payout and it has started using excess cash to buy back units (master limited partnerships have units instead of shares).</p><p>There may not be a lot of growth opportunities for oil and gas pipelines over the next several years, but Enterprise&#39;s business is generating enough cash that it can grow its payout and buy back more units to bolster returns. The company sells 3D imaging technology that allows businesses to create &#34;digital twins&#34; of physical spaces to upload and analyze on the cloud. Matterport helps hospitality companies share images and give virtual tours of homes or rooms for guests. As the only player in the space that does this for dozens of industries ranging from hospitality to insurance, Matterport has gained over 439,000 customers.</p><p>This technology could be incredibly useful in spurring the growth of the metaverse. For individual users who want to bring an image of their favorite park or a part of their house to the metaverse, all they would have to do is take a 3D picture of it with Matterport. The company&#39;s technology is available on most smartphones, so doing this is extremely easy for users. If the metaverse becomes mainstream and billions of people use it, Matterport&#39;s business could explode.</p><p>Even without the metaverse, however, Matterport has great potential as an investment. Management projects it has a $240 billion market opportunity in its current industry. As the first mover and market leader in this 3D capture space, Matterport could grow rapidly. As of Sept. 30, the company was generated $111 million in annualized revenue, leaving an extremely large opportunity ahead of it. As the world becomes more digital and both consumers and companies want to do more in the cloud, Matterport&#39;s products could become more critical to business operations.</p><p>With all this potential, the business also comes with a high valuation and some stock price volatility. The company went public through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) that was initially announced in February and finalized in mid-July. Since finalizing, shares are up about 11%, but they are also about 52% down from 52-week highs set in late November. Yet the company still trades at over 34 times its annualized revenue -- an extremely high multiple.</p><p>In 2022, shares could once again be on the rise if the metaverse continues gaining traction. For long-term investors willing to wait and see if the metaverse pans out, the rewards could be immense.</p><h2>2. Unity Software</h2><p>While Matterport could help build scenery and locations in the metaverse, Unity Software has the potential to provide the foundation for the companies creating the metaverse. The company currently offers game developers software to build, monetize, and operate their video games, regardless of platform, and adjusting the software to allow developers to build a metaverse shouldn&#39;t be much of a stretch. CEO John Riccitiello recently told analysts that Unity is working to have between 60% and 80% of metaverse content built using Unity&#39;s software.</p><p>Like Matterport, Unity has a robust business model even without the metaverse. The company is a leading game development platform, with around 71% of the top 1,000 mobile games being created with Unity&#39;s platform. The company has over 1.5 million active developers on its platform, and Unity helps with more than just developing games but also monetizing them. Monetization efforts include ads and in-app purchase capabilities, which developers buy for a subscription. This segment is the largest part of Unity, bringing in 65% of its $286 million in third-quarter revenue. The company is growing incredibly fast, with its top line growing 43% year over year in Q3 and its full-year guidance estimating 40% top-line growth year over year.</p><p>Unity&#39;s strong past success, continued fast growth, and future potential, have combined to make the stock somewhat expensive. Shares trade at 39 times sales, which is higher than other video game stocks like <b>Activision Blizzard</b>, which trades at six times sales.</p><p>The biggest risk for Unity involves its current lack of profits. The company lost $115 million in Q3, a hefty amount of money considering its Q3 revenue was just $286 million. However, this net loss decreased year over year from $145 million. Another good sign is that the company is free cash flow-positive, going from $11 million in free cash flow in Q3 2020 to $35 million in Q3 2021.</p><p>The stock is by no means cheap right now, but it is trading over 42% off its 52-week high. With companies that are executing well, there is rarely a time where shares are cheap, so now might be a good time to get in at a discount. Zuckerberg's move is a bet that the metaverse becomes a major force over the next decade, and he's not alone in thinking this concept has a future.If the metaverse does develop into something as big as Zuckerberg thinks it will, both Matterport (NASDAQ:MTTR) and Unity Software (NYSE:U) stand to benefit immensely, making now a great time to take a closer look at possibly investing in these stocks. Both stocks are trading down more than 30% from their all-time highs set in 2021, and with the rapid growth of the metaverse and their respective industries, these two stocks have real potential for a nice bull run in 2022.Image source: Getty Images.1. MatterportMatterport is a sneaky metaverse play. The company sells 3D imaging technology that allows businesses to create \"digital twins\" of physical spaces to upload and analyze on the cloud. Matterport helps hospitality companies share images and give virtual tours of homes or rooms for guests. As the only player in the space that does this for dozens of industries ranging from hospitality to insurance, Matterport has gained over 439,000 customers.This technology could be incredibly useful in spurring the growth of the metaverse. For individual users who want to bring an image of their favorite park or a part of their house to the metaverse, all they would have to do is take a 3D picture of it with Matterport. The company's technology is available on most smartphones, so doing this is extremely easy for users. If the metaverse becomes mainstream and billions of people use it, Matterport's business could explode.Even without the metaverse, however, Matterport has great potential as an investment. Management projects it has a $240 billion market opportunity in its current industry. As the first mover and market leader in this 3D capture space, Matterport could grow rapidly. As of Sept. 30, the company was generated $111 million in annualized revenue, leaving an extremely large opportunity ahead of it. As the world becomes more digital and both consumers and companies want to do more in the cloud, Matterport's products could become more critical to business operations.With all this potential, the business also comes with a high valuation and some stock price volatility. The company went public through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) that was initially announced in February and finalized in mid-July. Since finalizing, shares are up about 11%, but they are also about 52% down from 52-week highs set in late November. Yet the company still trades at over 34 times its annualized revenue -- an extremely high multiple.In 2022, shares could once again be on the rise if the metaverse continues gaining traction. For long-term investors willing to wait and see if the metaverse pans out, the rewards could be immense.2. Unity SoftwareWhile Matterport could help build scenery and locations in the metaverse, Unity Software has the potential to provide the foundation for the companies creating the metaverse. The company currently offers game developers software to build, monetize, and operate their video games, regardless of platform, and adjusting the software to allow developers to build a metaverse shouldn't be much of a stretch. CEO John Riccitiello recently told analysts that Unity is working to have between 60% and 80% of metaverse content built using Unity's software.Like Matterport, Unity has a robust business model even without the metaverse. The company is a leading game development platform, with around 71% of the top 1,000 mobile games being created with Unity's platform. The company has over 1.5 million active developers on its platform, and Unity helps with more than just developing games but also monetizing them. Monetization efforts include ads and in-app purchase capabilities, which developers buy for a subscription. This segment is the largest part of Unity, bringing in 65% of its $286 million in third-quarter revenue. The company is growing incredibly fast, with its top line growing 43% year over year in Q3 and its full-year guidance estimating 40% top-line growth year over year.Unity's strong past success, continued fast growth, and future potential, have combined to make the stock somewhat expensive. Shares trade at 39 times sales, which is higher than other video game stocks like Activision Blizzard, which trades at six times sales.The biggest risk for Unity involves its current lack of profits. The company lost $115 million in Q3, a hefty amount of money considering its Q3 revenue was just $286 million. However, this net loss decreased year over year from $145 million. Another good sign is that the company is free cash flow-positive, going from $11 million in free cash flow in Q3 2020 to $35 million in Q3 2021.The stock is by no means cheap right now, but it is trading over 42% off its 52-week high. With companies that are executing well, there is rarely a time where shares are cheap, so now might be a good time to get in at a discount.
