That old adage applies to many one-time high-flying growth stocks.

Some stocks have taken it on the chin more than others. But some also could rebound more strongly, too. Here are three beaten-down stocks that could soar from 58% to 88%, according to Wall Street.

1. Nvidia: New chips on the way

Nvidia is a former rising star that's crashing and burning this year. Shares of the graphics chipmaker have plunged close to 55% so far in 2022. Macroeconomic issues and a cryptocurrency crash combined to pull the stock down.

Analysts don't appear to be overly worried about any of these challenges, though. The average price target for the stock is nearly 51% higher than Nvidia's current share price.

Nvidia CFO Colette Kress noted in the Q2 conference call that the company has several launches of next-generation superchip platforms on the way soon. Nvidia also recently launched an update to its NeMo Megatron artificial-intelligence framework that can increase the speed of training large language models by as much as 30%.

Wall Street likely expects positive results from these launches. Analysts also recognize that Nvidia operates in a cyclical market. The current downturn won't last forever.

2. Meta Platforms: A big-tech bargain

Facebook-parent Meta Platforms hasn't received many "likes" from investors in 2022. The stock has fallen more than 50% year to date. Shareholders are worried about a slowing digital ad market, combined with Meta's massive and risky investment in the metaverse.

However, Wall Street remains highly optimistic about Meta's prospects. The consensus 12-month price target for the stock reflects an upside potential of 53%.

What do analysts like about Meta Platforms? Its valuation is no doubt high on the list. Meta's shares currently trade at only 12.2 times expected earnings. The company's social media platforms also still draw 2.88 billion active users on a daily basis and 3.65 billion on a monthly basis. Those numbers represent an audience that's still very attractive to advertisers.

A rebound in digital-advertising growth would help Meta meet analysts' expectations. Over the longer term, the stock could be a monster winner if CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision of the metaverse is fulfilled.

3. Moderna: A potential bull in the China shop

Moderna is yet another company that's seen its high-flying ways of the past disappear. The vaccine stock has plummeted close to 50% year to date. It's now down more than 70% from the peak set in the summer of 2021.

The biggest problem for Moderna is that COVID-19 cases are falling while the demand for vaccines seems to have plateaued. But analysts still think the best is yet to come for the messenger RNA (mRNA) pioneer. The average 12-month price target for Moderna is a whopping 70% higher than the current share price.

Wall Street seems to believe that Moderna could have a big opportunity for its COVID-19 vaccines in China. The company is in discussions with the Chinese government about potentially marketing its vaccines in the country.

Moderna could also regain momentum in North America and Europe with its boosters targeting the coronavirus omicron variant. It has recently won several authorizations for the new omicron booster.

Over the longer term, Moderna hopes to expand beyond COVID-19. But some also could rebound more strongly, too. Here are three beaten-down stocks that could soar from 58% to 88%, according to Wall Street.1. Nvidia: New chips on the wayNvidia is a former rising star that's crashing and burning this year. Shares of the graphics chipmaker have plunged close to 55% so far in 2022. Macroeconomic issues and a cryptocurrency crash combined to pull the stock down.Analysts don't appear to be overly worried about any of these challenges, though. The average price target for the stock is nearly 51% higher than Nvidia's current share price.Nvidia CFO Colette Kress noted in the Q2 conference call that the company has several launches of next-generation superchip platforms on the way soon. Nvidia also recently launched an update to its NeMo Megatron artificial-intelligence framework that can increase the speed of training large language models by as much as 30%.Wall Street likely expects positive results from these launches. Analysts also recognize that Nvidia operates in a cyclical market. The current downturn won't last forever.2. Meta Platforms: A big-tech bargainFacebook-parent Meta Platforms hasn't received many \"likes\" from investors in 2022. The stock has fallen more than 50% year to date. Shareholders are worried about a slowing digital ad market, combined with Meta's massive and risky investment in the metaverse. However, Wall Street remains highly optimistic about Meta's prospects. The consensus 12-month price target for the stock reflects an upside potential of 53%.What do analysts like about Meta Platforms? Its valuation is no doubt high on the list. Meta's shares currently trade at only 12.2 times expected earnings. The company's social media platforms also still draw 2.88 billion active users on a daily basis and 3.65 billion on a monthly basis. Those numbers represent an audience that's still very attractive to advertisers.A rebound in digital-advertising growth would help Meta meet analysts' expectations. Over the longer term, the stock could be a monster winner if CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision of the metaverse is fulfilled.3. Moderna: A potential bull in the China shopModerna is yet another company that's seen its high-flying ways of the past disappear. The vaccine stock has plummeted close to 50% year to date. It's now down more than 70% from the peak set in the summer of 2021.The biggest problem for Moderna is that COVID-19 cases are falling while the demand for vaccines seems to have plateaued. But analysts still think the best is yet to come for the messenger RNA (mRNA) pioneer. The average 12-month price target for Moderna is a whopping 70% higher than the current share price.Wall Street seems to believe that Moderna could have a big opportunity for its COVID-19 vaccines in China. The company is in discussions with the Chinese government about potentially marketing its vaccines in the country.Moderna could also regain momentum in North America and Europe with its boosters targeting the coronavirus omicron variant. It has recently won several authorizations for the new omicron booster.Over the longer term, Moderna hopes to expand beyond COVID-19. The company's pipeline includes three non-COVID candidates in late-stage testing -- experimental mRNA vaccines targeting flu, cytomegalovirus, and respiratory syncytial virus.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":332,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9919797673,"gmtCreate":1663858338392,"gmtModify":1676537351123,"author":{"id":"4100665588126770","authorId":"4100665588126770","name":"Mraweeesome","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4100665588126770","authorIdStr":"4100665588126770"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Cool] Justlast week, Alibaba and Tencent (OTCPK:TCEHY) were fined for violations of disclosure regulations by Chinaâs anti-monopoly agency which drove a new sell-off in shares of Chinese tech companies.

I last analysed Alibaba in May. I added to my pile of Alibabaâs shares, however, and expect the e-Commerce company to submit a strong earnings card for FQ1â23 in August.

New round of fines for large Chinese tech companies

Last week, Chinaâs anti-trust regulators reminded investors once again that Chinese companies remain in their cross hairs when they fined Alibaba and Tencent for violations of disclosure rules. The State Administration for Market Regulation/SAMR, which is Chinaâs anti-monopoly agency tasked with overseeing mergers and acquisition deals, said that 28 deals violated its disclosure rules, including five from Alibaba, 12 from Tencent and 4 from Didi Global (OTCPK:DIDIY). Fines for reported disclosure violations were 500,000 yuan (US$74,600) per case which is the maximum amount the State Administration for Market regulation can impose. Alibaba was also fined for its investment in Youku Tudou, a video streaming platform into which Alibaba invested $1.2B back in 2014. After the transaction, Youku Tudou became a subsidiary of Alibaba Group Holding Limited.

After new fines on Chinese tech companies were disclosed to the public, shares of the affected companies plunged with Alibaba crashing the most. This sell-off creates a new buying opportunity for investors that like to focus more on the fundamentals of the businesses in question instead of the latest regulatory actions.

While the absolute USD amount of the imposed fines is negligible, it shows that the anti-monopoly agency continues to review Alibabaâs past acquisitions and new fines remain a risk going forward. However, the new down-leg in Alibabaâs shares creates a new opportunity to buy Alibaba as the company will soon report earnings for its first fiscal quarter in FY 2023.

Alibaba will submit its earnings card for FQ1â23 in August and the company could do better than expected. This is because earnings expectations are very, very low which creates a low bar for Alibaba. Earnings estimates have been lowered seven times in the last 90 days and the market currently only expects $1.57 in EPS, implying a 39% year over year decline.

Seeking Alpha

Why Alibaba's Commerce performance may be set to improve

Chinaâs economic activity has slowed down in the first half of the year, largely because of new COVID-19 lockdowns that suppressed commerce. Strict lockdown measures greatly affected the economy: it grew at only 2.5% in the first six months of the year which is a weak growth rate for a country that until the pandemic grew at rates of about 6% annually.

I believe, however, as the Chinese economy emerges from its lockdown state, that Alibabaâs overall financial performance is set to improve. While the slowdown in the economy will take time to gain momentum, stronger economic growth and an improving outlook for consumer spending could drive Alibabaâs e-Commerce results going forward.

While COVID-19 lockdowns hurt Chinaâs economic performance in the short term, and Alibabaâs sales, the long term outlook for Chinaâs e-Commerce market is extremely positive: China's retail e-Commerce sales are expected to more than double from FY 2019 levels to $3.8T by FY 2025.

eMarketer

E-Commerce sales in China contribute 69% of Alibabaâs total sales, so no market is more important to Alibaba's growth prospects than China. Alibaba has seen a serious slowdown in e-Commerce growth rates in the last quarter --- Alibaba's domestic and international e-Commerce businesses saw only 8% and 7% year over year revenue growth -- but this trend could reverse in the second half of the year if China gets a grip on its COVID-19 situation and releases large city populations in Beijing and Shanghai out of COVID lockdowns.

Alibaba

But even within the challenged domestic e-Commerce segment, there are bright spots for Alibaba. Direct sales and Chinaâs e-Commerce wholesale business still have momentum and grew their top lines at 14% and 30% year over year in FQ4â21, chiefly because of the roll-out of value-added services and higher revenues from Alibaba-owned business-to-consumer brands like Freshippo and Tmall Supermarket.

Alibaba

Alibaba's valuation got another discount last week

It is hard to argue with Alibabaâs low valuation: the company appears undervalued by every metric in the book, but of course there have been good reasons for that. Because of the recent crackdown on big Chinese companies, valuation ratios for Alibaba have further improved.

Shares of Alibaba now sell for 11.7 X earnings and 1.8 X sales (FY 2023), indicating that Alibaba remains significantly undervalued given the e-Commerce opportunity in China.

Risks with Alibaba

The real risk for Alibaba is represented by the enormous power China's anti-trust agencies have. Justlast week, Alibaba and Tencent (OTCPK:TCEHY) were fined for violations of disclosure regulations by Chinaâs anti-monopoly agency which drove a new sell-off in shares of Chinese tech companies.I last analysed Alibaba in May. I added to my pile of Alibabaâs shares, however, and expect the e-Commerce company to submit a strong earnings card for FQ1â23 in August.New round of fines for large Chinese tech companiesLast week, Chinaâs anti-trust regulators reminded investors once again that Chinese companies remain in their cross hairs when they fined Alibaba and Tencent for violations of disclosure rules. However, the new down-leg in Alibabaâs shares creates a new opportunity to buy Alibaba as the company will soon report earnings for its first fiscal quarter in FY 2023.Alibaba will submit its earnings card for FQ1â23 in August and the company could do better than expected. This is because earnings expectations are very, very low which creates a low bar for Alibaba. Earnings estimates have been lowered seven times in the last 90 days and the market currently only expects $1.57 in EPS, implying a 39% year over year decline.Seeking AlphaWhy Alibaba's Commerce performance may be set to improveChinaâs economic activity has slowed down in the first half of the year, largely because of new COVID-19 lockdowns that suppressed commerce. Strict lockdown measures greatly affected the economy: it grew at only 2.5% in the first six months of the year which is a weak growth rate for a country that until the pandemic grew at rates of about 6% annually.I believe, however, as the Chinese economy emerges from its lockdown state, that Alibabaâs overall financial performance is set to improve. While the slowdown in the economy will take time to gain momentum, stronger economic growth and an improving outlook for consumer spending could drive Alibabaâs e-Commerce results going forward. While COVID-19 lockdowns hurt Chinaâs economic performance in the short term, and Alibabaâs sales, the long term outlook for Chinaâs e-Commerce market is extremely positive: China's retail e-Commerce sales are expected to more than double from FY 2019 levels to $3.8T by FY 2025.eMarketerE-Commerce sales in China contribute 69% of Alibabaâs total sales, so no market is more important to Alibaba's growth prospects than China. Alibaba has seen a serious slowdown in e-Commerce growth rates in the last quarter --- Alibaba's domestic and international e-Commerce businesses saw only 8% and 7% year over year revenue growth -- but this trend could reverse in the second half of the year if China gets a grip on its COVID-19 situation and releases large city populations in Beijing and Shanghai out of COVID lockdowns.AlibabaBut even within the challenged domestic e-Commerce segment, there are bright spots for Alibaba. Direct sales and Chinaâs e-Commerce wholesale business still have momentum and grew their top lines at 14% and 30% year over year in FQ4â21, chiefly because of the roll-out of value-added services and higher revenues from Alibaba-owned business-to-consumer brands like Freshippo and Tmall Supermarket.AlibabaAlibaba's valuation got another discount last weekIt is hard to argue with Alibabaâs low valuation: the company appears undervalued by every metric in the book, but of course there have been good reasons for that. Because of the recent crackdown on big Chinese companies, valuation ratios for Alibaba have further improved.Shares of Alibaba now sell for 11.7 X earnings and 1.8 X sales (FY 2023), indicating that Alibaba remains significantly undervalued given the e-Commerce opportunity in China.Risks with AlibabaThe real risk for Alibaba is represented by the enormous power China's anti-trust agencies have. While recent fines were not really damaging financially, a new crackdown can always occur. Authorities also have the power to decide what will happen to Alibaba-owned Ant Group, which owns the worldâs largest mobile payment platform.Regarding commercial risks, I believe a massive new lockdown campaign could set back Alibaba's recovery as well as the recovery of the Chinese economy. What would change my opinion about Alibaba is if the company were to see a dramatic slowdown in its core businesses or was forced by regulators to sell off company assets.Final thoughtsThe Chinese economy has been weighed down by widespread COVID-19 lockdowns in the first half of 2022 which took a toll on the Chinese economy as well as on Alibabaâs top line growth. The message was clear enough for a golden retriever(I have two) to understand. There was nothing cryptic or reading of the tea leaves to understand it.

Powell struck the point again, reiterating his stance at Jackson Hole about his commitment to reining in inflation, which would create below-trend growth rates and higher unemployment. What solidified this commentary was the FOMC summary of economic projections, which laid it all out very nicely.

There was nothing the equity market could cling to that it could twist and turn to make up some bullish narrative. It was what the Fed needed to deliver for financial conditions to tighten adequately and for the Fed to start to bring inflation down.

Federal Reserve

Old Games Didn't Work

Of course, the equity market tried to play its implied volatility melt in the middle of the trading session game, with the S&P 500 managing to rally by more than 2% off its post-FOMC lows. But still, what became clear was that sellers were in the market, and they could offset that usually implied volatility melt and sink stocks.

Bloomberg

Rates Will Go Much Higher

The Fed's plan to get rates to 4.4% this year was just too much for the stock market and not expected. Fed Fund Futures were only looking at 4% rates by December 2022. The Fed's projections were 40 bps higher than the market and about 1.25% higher than the Fed Fund Rate following today's 75 BPS rate hike. That means the market will need to price two additional rate hikes for the rest of 2022.

The Fed's projections for 4.6% for 2023 have also shifted the Fed Funds Futures peak terminal rate to 4.62% from 4.48% yesterday. Additionally, that peak rate is expected to come in May 2023 instead of April. But more importantly, as time passes, we should see those Fed Funds Futures begin to take the shape of the Fed's expected path.

Mott Capital

The shift in the futures market should feed through to the Treasury curve. Treasuries are already beginning to rise further with the 2-Yr and 3-Yr gaining and now above 4%. Based on the Fed projections, they would suggest we're likely to see the two and three-year Treasuries not only stay above 4% but well above 4%, potentially matching those peak terminal rates of 4.6% the Fed is forecasting.

Bloomberg

The higher rates will help strengthen the dollar index, especially against Japan and China, which are clearly in much easier monetary policy positions. The message was clear enough for a golden retriever(I have two) to understand. There was nothing cryptic or reading of the tea leaves to understand it.Powell struck the point again, reiterating his stance at Jackson Hole about his commitment to reining in inflation, which would create below-trend growth rates and higher unemployment. What solidified this commentary was the FOMC summary of economic projections, which laid it all out very nicely. There was nothing the equity market could cling to that it could twist and turn to make up some bullish narrative. It was what the Fed needed to deliver for financial conditions to tighten adequately and for the Fed to start to bring inflation down.Federal ReserveOld Games Didn't WorkOf course, the equity market tried to play its implied volatility melt in the middle of the trading session game, with the S&P 500 managing to rally by more than 2% off its post-FOMC lows. But still, what became clear was that sellers were in the market, and they could offset that usually implied volatility melt and sink stocks.BloombergRates Will Go Much HigherThe Fed's plan to get rates to 4.4% this year was just too much for the stock market and not expected. Fed Fund Futures were only looking at 4% rates by December 2022. The Fed's projections were 40 bps higher than the market and about 1.25% higher than the Fed Fund Rate following today's 75 BPS rate hike. That means the market will need to price two additional rate hikes for the rest of 2022.The Fed's projections for 4.6% for 2023 have also shifted the Fed Funds Futures peak terminal rate to 4.62% from 4.48% yesterday. Additionally, that peak rate is expected to come in May 2023 instead of April. But more importantly, as time passes, we should see those Fed Funds Futures begin to take the shape of the Fed's expected path.Mott CapitalThe shift in the futures market should feed through to the Treasury curve. Treasuries are already beginning to rise further with the 2-Yr and 3-Yr gaining and now above 4%. Based on the Fed projections, they would suggest we're likely to see the two and three-year Treasuries not only stay above 4% but well above 4%, potentially matching those peak terminal rates of 4.6% the Fed is forecasting.BloombergThe higher rates will help strengthen the dollar index, especially against Japan and China, which are clearly in much easier monetary policy positions. Additionally, with Europe's energy crisis and on the brink of recession, the dollar is likely to strengthen further against the euro.BloombergTighter Financial ConditionsRising rates and a stronger dollar also will help real yield rise, and together all of these things will work to tighten financial conditions even more in the coming weeks. While the Chicago Fed's National Financial Conditions (NFCI) and Adjusted NFCI tightened some this week, they still need to see their index value get above zero. Tightening financial conditions will work to sink stocks as they usually do.BloombergWider SpreadsAdditionally, corporate and high-yield credit spreads should widen further, which historically is directly tied to changes in the stock market volatility as measured by the VIX index. Plus, now that the VIX options expiration occurred on Sept. 21, the VIX will be able to move higher more freely and will not be tied to the lower levels due to option positioning.BloombergAll of this is bad for stocks because, on a relative basis, the S&P 500 already is expensive, with an equity risk premium over the 10-Yr of just 2.4%. That's a historically low level since 2010 and 135 bps below the historical average of 3.76%. An increase of 135 bps in the S&P 500 earnings yield would send it to roughly 7.25% from around 5.9%. That would take the S&P 500 PE ratio of 16.9 to approximately 13.8, or an S&P 500 value of roughly 3,100. That would be an additional 18% lower than its closing price of about 3,790 on Sept. 21.BloombergBut that's the thing - it all depends on where rates go because if rates do rise as the Fed suggests, and the 2-yr gets to around 4.5% and assuming the curve remains inverted by 50 bps, the 10-Yr would trade with a 4% yield, and then, of course, that would imply an even higher earnings yield for the S&P 500, and lower PE ratio.Very SeriousThe Fed is dead serious about raising rates. However, the bear market began long before most investors realize. While the S&P 500 and other major indices didnât suffer major corrections until January 2022, overrated growth stocks began their correction about a year earlier.

Itâs interesting, as there was a large divide in growth stocks. Almost all growth-oriented public firms corrected lower in the first quarter of 2021. However, only the high-quality names recovered. Many of those high-quality equities went on to hit new highs later in the year, with many powering to all-time highs in the fourth quarter of 2021.

At a glance, the growth market still looked okay, even though the leader of the group, the Arkk Innovation Fund(NYSEARCA:ARKK), was still well off the highs.

Bifurcation aside, weâre now seeing another big rally in growth stocks. Amid this move, there are some overrated growth stocks that investors should consider using caution with. Letâs look at three of them.

Coinbase (COIN)

Coinbase(NASDAQ:COIN) has already suffered a spectacular fall, tumbling 90.5% from its 2021 high to 2022 low. Arkâs Cathie Wood had championed the stock, but even she badly misplayed this one.

In July, she dumped more than 1.4 million shares at an average price of roughly $53 a share. Wood & Co. sold at a roughly 80% loss as they had a cost basis of about $255. She sold following reports of an SEC investigation.

Now though, Coinbase stock has more than doubled off its lows, rallying 163% from its June 30 low to the recent high. That said, Coinbase is a hard one for me to buy. Thatâs thanks to SEC investigations, a brutal bear market in cryptocurrencies and growth stocks, slashes to long-term estimates and no profitability in sight.

With the push higher, Coinbase stock recovered almost one-quarter of its peak-to-trough losses. Can it go higher still? Of course. But amid the current environment, bulls can find better selections elsewhere.

Palantir (PLTR)

Palantir(NYSE:PLTR) is a crowd favorite among retail investors, but it has been left out to dry. Thatâs been the case with many tech stocks. Although many investors wouldnât consider this name one of the overrated growth stocks, I do. I never found the companyâs fundamentals to justify its valuation.

Shares fell 85.6% from peak to trough and despite still being down 78.8% from the highs, Palantir stock still trades at 10.3 times this yearâs revenue estimate.

On Aug. 8, the company had a chance to wow investors. It delivered approximately 26% revenue growth, which was solid. However, it reported a surprise loss of a penny per share, slightly missing expectations. Had Palantir not issued disappointing third-quarter and full-year revenue guidance, investors would have likely shrugged off the profit miss. Instead, the stock fell 14.25% in reaction.

Palantir stock is not the worst stock in the world and it may even have bottomed. But itâs not one I want to be invested at this time given the valuation.

Nikola (NKLA)

Nikola(NASDAQ:NKLA) is a stock that I never really liked, but at some point, I have to wonder if itâs been humbled enough. The company went through an embarrassing introduction to the public markets. While the stock somehow exploded to approximately $94 a share â valuing it at $23 billion â it never really proved itself.

Former founder and CEO Trevor Milton is under investigation for lying aboutânearly all aspects of the business.â He recently had a new charge filed against him and Nikola is seeking to recoup the $125 million fine it was forced to pay to the SEC for Miltonâs actions. So yeah, things havenât gone all that smoothly with Nikola stock.

In the most recent quarter, EBITDA losses climbed to $94 million on revenue of roughly $18 million. The company expects to deliver 300 to 500 Tre BEV trucks this year. Even after the brutal stock performance, a $3.5 billion market capitalization still feels too rich. Maybe Nikola stock has bottomed and maybe not, but either way, Iâm not a buyer.

","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Overrated Growth Stocks to Avoid Now
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Overrated Growth Stocks to Avoid Now\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-08-11 23:31 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Use caution with these three overrated growth stocks.Coinbase(COIN): Coinbase has had a huge rally, despite declining growth estimates and an SEC investigation.Palantir(PLTR): Palantir still trades at...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"NKLA":"Nikola Corporation","PLTR":"Palantir Technologies Inc.","COIN":"Coinbase Global, Inc."},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2022/08/3-overrated-growth-stocks-to-avoid-now/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1116376729","content_text":"Use caution with these three overrated growth stocks.Coinbase(COIN): Coinbase has had a huge rally, despite declining growth estimates and an SEC investigation.Palantir(PLTR): Palantir still trades at 10 times this year's revenue and recently delivered disappointing guidance.Nikola(NKLA): Nikola has a ton of legal drama surrounding it and is still overvalued versus other EV stocks.Growth stocks have been crushed amid the bear market. It delivered approximately 26% revenue growth, which was solid. However, it reported a surprise loss of a penny per share, slightly missing expectations. Had Palantir not issued disappointing third-quarter and full-year revenue guidance, investors would have likely shrugged off the profit miss. Instead, the stock fell 14.25% in reaction.Palantir stock is not the worst stock in the world and it may even have bottomed. But itâs not one I want to be invested at this time given the valuation.Nikola (NKLA)Nikola(NASDAQ:NKLA) is a stock that I never really liked, but at some point, I have to wonder if itâs been humbled enough. The company went through an embarrassing introduction to the public markets. While the stock somehow exploded to approximately $94 a share â valuing it at $23 billion â it never really proved itself.Former founder and CEO Trevor Milton is under investigation for lying aboutânearly all aspects of the business.â He recently had a new charge filed against him and Nikola is seeking to recoup the $125 million fine it was forced to pay to the SEC for Miltonâs actions. Maybe Nikola stock has bottomed and maybe not, but either way, Iâm not a buyer.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":571,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9919797288,"gmtCreate":1663858362044,"gmtModify":1676537351123,"author":{"id":"4100665588126770","authorId":"4100665588126770","name":"Mraweeesome","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4100665588126770","authorIdStr":"4100665588126770"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9919797288","repostId":"1168375426","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":332,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9906481723,"gmtCreate":1659578225567,"gmtModify":1705981829811,"author":{"id":"4100665588126770","authorId":"4100665588126770","name":"Mraweeesome","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4100665588126770","authorIdStr":"4100665588126770"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Miser] ","listText":"[Miser] ","text":"[Miser]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9906481723","repostId":"2256990409","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2256990409","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1659569011,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2256990409?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-04 07:23","market":"us","language":"en","title":"US STOCKS-Nasdaq Ends at Three-Month High As PayPal Fuels Optimism","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2256990409","media":"Reuters","summary":"* U.S. service sector unexpectedly picks up in July* PayPal rises after raising profit outlook* Mode","content":"

* U.S. service sector unexpectedly picks up in July

* PayPal rises after raising profit outlook

* Moderna jumps on $3 billion share buyback plan

* Indexes: S&P 500 +1.56%, Nasdaq +2.59%, Dow +1.29%

Aug 3 (Reuters) - Wall Street ended sharply higher on Wednesday, with strong profit forecasts from PayPal and CVS Health Corp lifting sentiment and helping elevate the Nasdaq to its highest level since early May.

Data showed the U.S. services industry unexpectedly picked up in July amid strong order growth, while supply bottlenecks and price pressures eased. What comes next?","content":"

KEY POINTS

The company's earnings will show a decline in its next report.

Once short-term headwinds are resolved, there is still plenty to like about Tesla.

Tesla has a highly growth-dependent valuation and faces mounting competition.

Tesla is one of the stock market's biggest winners in recent memory. Over the last decade, the electric vehicle (EV) innovator's share price has climbed more than 10,400%, and the business has been growing sales and earnings at an incredible clip. However, the company's share price also took a big dip in 2022, and there are questions about whether the business can live up to its growth-dependent valuation.

Let's take a closer look at the bull and bear cases for this company from two Motley Fool contributors.

The bull case for Tesla: A speed bump in its growth rate

Howard Smith (Tesla): It seems like everywhere you turn, you see negative news about Tesla or its CEO Elon Musk these days. The EV trailblazer was priced for success in its vehicle business as well as its other ventures heading into 2022, so the recent headwinds have taken their toll on Tesla shares.

That shouldn't come as a huge surprise, since the company was valued at more than $1 trillion to start the year, giving it a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of more than 200 at the time. Investors believed the incredible growth trajectory in the business would continue.

Data source: Tesla. Chart by author.

But it's likely that the current headwinds won't be long-term issues. Supply chain disruptions are hitting manufacturers globally, and aren't going to be permanent. As the largest EV company, Tesla is likely to have relationships with suppliers that will help it navigate solutions. The supply chain issues come just as the company is trying to ramp up production at its two new plants in Germany and Texas. That isn't optimal and definitely is costly, but at least the plants are in production and should be set to ramp up when the situation allows.

There are certainly some things to be concerned about. Elon Musk has been distracted by his interactions with Twitter, and that is likely to get worse before it gets better. Tesla's autonomous driving leader, Andrej Karpathy, also recently left the company. Investors will have to monitor how the company moves forward in this nascent category.

Tesla is going to report a sequential drop in earnings in its second quarter. The COVID-19-related production delays at its Shanghai plan ensure that. But with the stock price down more than 30% year to date, if its headwinds are indeed short-term, investors might find its recent price a good opportunity for a long-term holding.

The bear case for Tesla: Its valuation may prove overly optimistic

Keith Noonan: Tesla has an extremely growth-dependent valuation for a company whose core business still hinges on success in the highly competitive automotive market. There's no question that the EV innovator is generating superior margins compared to its main competitors in the auto space, and its sales and earnings growth continue to trounce those of the competition. Admittedly, Elon Musk's company also has other roads to expansion.

Beyond just selling electric vehicles, Tesla will also have opportunities to license its battery and self-driving technologies. These initiatives may help justify the valuation premium that the stock commands relative to other players in the auto space and help shares post more big gains over the long term. But it's worth noting that these product and service categories are becoming increasingly competitive as well. Over the last decade, the electric vehicle (EV) innovator's share price has climbed more than 10,400%, and the business has been growing sales and earnings at an incredible clip. However, the company's share price also took a big dip in 2022, and there are questions about whether the business can live up to its growth-dependent valuation.Let's take a closer look at the bull and bear cases for this company from two Motley Fool contributors.Image source: Tesla. The bull case for Tesla: A speed bump in its growth rateHoward Smith (Tesla): It seems like everywhere you turn, you see negative news about Tesla or its CEO Elon Musk these days. Investors believed the incredible growth trajectory in the business would continue.Data source: Tesla. Investors will have to monitor how the company moves forward in this nascent category.Tesla is going to report a sequential drop in earnings in its second quarter. The COVID-19-related production delays at its Shanghai plan ensure that. But with the stock price down more than 30% year to date, if its headwinds are indeed short-term, investors might find its recent price a good opportunity for a long-term holding. The bear case for Tesla: Its valuation may prove overly optimisticKeith Noonan: Tesla has an extremely growth-dependent valuation for a company whose core business still hinges on success in the highly competitive automotive market. There's no question that the EV innovator is generating superior margins compared to its main competitors in the auto space, and its sales and earnings growth continue to trounce those of the competition. Admittedly, Elon Musk's company also has other roads to expansion.Beyond just selling electric vehicles, Tesla will also have opportunities to license its battery and self-driving technologies. These initiatives may help justify the valuation premium that the stock commands relative to other players in the auto space and help shares post more big gains over the long term. But it's worth noting that these product and service categories are becoming increasingly competitive as well. And it bears repeating that Tesla stock commands one heck of a valuation premium. In fact, with a market capitalization of roughly $746 billion, Tesla is still 1.8 times the size of its three largest competitors combined.TSLA Market Cap data by YChartsTesla's market cap is also nearly eight times the combined market caps of Ford and GM, despite still posting less net income than each of those companies on an individual basis.Other major auto manufacturers are rapidly moving into the EV space, and the bloom may come off the rose on Tesla as the range of offerings in the category continues to expand.Should you buy Tesla stock?Tesla is arguably one of the most innovative companies of the 21st century, and it's continued to serve up impressive revenue and earnings growth. On the other hand, competition is heating up in the EV space, and the company will need to work in order to serve up strong stock returns from current pricing levels. If you think that Tesla will continue leading the EV revolution, recent pullbacks for the company's share price could present a worthwhile buying opportunity. Otherwise, investing in a more conservatively valued automaker or companies in the battery and charging markets may be more suitable plays if you're looking to benefit from the EV trend.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":19,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9907420459,"gmtCreate":1660234735373,"gmtModify":1676529887172,"author":{"id":"4100665588126770","authorId":"4100665588126770","name":"Mraweeesome","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4100665588126770","authorIdStr":"4100665588126770"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9907420459","repostId":"1116376729","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":195,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9906488696,"gmtCreate":1659578253916,"gmtModify":1705981830781,"author":{"id":"4100665588126770","authorId":"4100665588126770","name":"Mraweeesome","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4100665588126770","authorIdStr":"4100665588126770"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9906488696","repostId":"2256282915","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2256282915","pubTimestamp":1659572388,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2256282915?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-04 08:19","market":"us","language":"en","title":"This Tiny Firm Just Surpassed Goldman Sachs With a 14,000% Gain","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2256282915","media":"Bloomberg ","summary":"The world, apparently, has a new financial giant.AMTD Digital, a Hong Kong-based company that listed","content":"

The world, apparently, has a new financial giant.

AMTD Digital, a Hong Kong-based company that listed in New York less than three weeks ago, has surged so much that the combined market value of its Class A and Class B shares hit more than $US310 billion ($446 billion) this week. nosedive,â said Oktay Kavrak, director at Leverage Shares. âI hope investors take profits along the way as the inevitable crash will send HKD back to relative obscurity.â","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":333,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9903634987,"gmtCreate":1659016918349,"gmtModify":1676536244308,"author":{"id":"4100665588126770","authorId":"4100665588126770","name":"Mraweeesome","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4100665588126770","authorIdStr":"4100665588126770"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9903634987","repostId":"1184456731","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1184456731","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing
