Strong fundamentals companies but mostly expensive! With that said, high risk, high returns so depends on what’s the accepted risk level. Good read.

It describes a 3D virtual environment that'll allow users to interact with their surroundings, including other users. Not only is there a gaming/entertainment aspect to the metaverse, but this collective of virtual worlds is expected to breed an entirely new ecosystem.

Making the metaverse tick is a big job, and it's going to take a large number of companies and innovators. There'll need to be enough processing capacity, storage capacity, reduced latency for users within virtual worlds, digital identity verification/security, and payment platforms in place, just to name a few of the critical functions necessary for the metaverse to succeed.

Yet, if all goes as planned, the metaverse could be the biggest investing opportunity since the birth of the internet. Matthew Ball, the CEO of venture capital company Epyllion, has estimated the metaverse market value at $10 trillion to $30 trillion within the next 10 to 15 years. Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley believes the metaverse can eventually be worth $8 billion just in China!

Although the metaverse remains a work in progress, select Wall Street analysts and investment banks see three metaverse-associated stocks skyrocketing between 195% and 383% over the coming 12 months.

Coinbase Global: Implied upside of 208%

The first metaverse stock with exceptional upside potential over the next year is the leading cryptocurrency exchange and ecosystem Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN). Analyst Lisa Ellis of MoffettNathanson currently has the highest price target on Coinbase at $600. If it were to trade for this figure, investors would more than triple their money, based on where shares closed this past weekend.

Coinbase would be a pretty obvious beneficiary of the metaverse, given that protocol tokens from blockchain-based games have proved essential to early iterations of a decentralized metaverse. With Coinbase leading the way among crypto investments and transactions, it could become the de facto stop for digital currency purchases needed within virtual worlds or ecosystems.

But Coinbase sees its future in the metaverse going well beyond its cryptocurrency exchange. In December, the company released a note implying that its role will be to create "an identity on-ramp into the metaverse." Coinbase believes there'll be numerous metaverses linked together, and that having a secure identity tag, stored as a non-fungible token (NFT), will allow users easy access from one metaverse to the next. In addition to focusing on NFT identity tags, the company notes that it's working on technology that'll allow users to purchase their own avatar.

However, investors should understand that Coinbase is far from a lock to succeed. Though it's been raking in the dough from increased crypto transactions over the past 13-plus months, competition among crypto exchanges is heating up. We've watched this same fee-based price war play out with traditional brokerages, and it ended with trading commissions eventually going to zero.

Coinbase is also highly dependent on the success of Bitcoin and Ethereum, which make up the bulk of trading volume on its platform. Any weakness from the "Big Two" can quickly reduce sales and profits. With the metaverse many years away from being a big growth driver for Coinbase, it's more likely these concerns will limit this stock's upside.

Matterport: Implied upside of 383%

If you want something a bit more under the radar, borderline small-cap stock Matterport (NASDAQ:MTTR) has the potential to nearly quintuple, at least according to one analyst. Daniel Ives at Wedbush Securities has an aggressive $38 price target on shares of Matterport, which equates to upside of 383%, based on where it closed last week.

Of the three stocks on this list, Matterport has the most direct ties to the metaverse. This is a company that takes physical objects in the real world and creates 3D digital twins of them in the virtual world. The applications for this technology are immediate. For instance, real estate companies are using this technology to allow prospective buyers to get a real feel for properties on the market.

But as you can imagine, there's plenty of use for Matterport's spatial data technology in the metaverse. Imagine being able to take your home, or perhaps the home you've always dreamed about, and place it on your own plot of land in the virtual world. Though we're likely a ways away from that happening, investors are already buying into Matterport specifically for the intrigue surrounding its metaverse ties.

For the time being, Matterport's growth is primarily derived from cloud-based subscriptions. While users do have the option of accessing their digital twins for free, a paid subscription is required so that others can access these virtual twins. As of the end of the third quarter, Matterport's annual recurring revenue (what it expects to generate annually from subscription revenue) was $62.7 million.

The catch with Matterport is that it's going to require patience. Profitability isn't expected anytime soon, and the company is still valued at close to 13 times Wall Street's forecast sales for 2022.

Sea Limited: Implied upside of 195%

A final metaverse stock with plenty of upside, according to Wall Street, is Singapore-based Sea Limited (NYSE:SE). The high-water price target on Wall Street of $467 comes from analyst Nirgunan Tiruchelvam at Tellimer Research. Should Sea make waves and hit this lofty prognostication, shareholders would enjoy gains of 195%!

Sea's ties to the metaverse are fairly fresh, with the company responsible for raising about $6.3 million for artificial intelligence-based gaming company Refract. Interestingly, the funding that Sea helped anchor allowed Refract to complete an acquisition of its own (game developer Deep Dive Studios).

It should be noted that Sea already has a wildly successful gaming unit, known as Garena. The company's mobile game, Free Fire, is a global hit. During the September-ended quarter, 729 million people were actively gaming on its platform, with 12.8% of those users paying to play. It's worth pointing out that the industry's pay-to-play conversion ratio is often closer to just 2%.

Beyond gaming, Sea Limited is building up its digital financial services segment, known as SeaMoney. When the third quarter closed, more than 39 million people were paying for digital wallet services. With access to basic banking services somewhat limited in many of the emerging markets Sea operates, the company looks to have a fast-growing business segment that could help to democratize access to financial services over time.

But what may really define Sea for many years to come is Shopee, the company's rapidly growing e-commerce platform. Shopee has consistently been the most downloaded shopping app in Southeastern Asia, and it's gaining steam in Brazil. Shopee's gross merchandise value (GMV) annual run-rate surpassed $67 billion in the third quarter, which is up from $10 billion in GMV for the entirety of 2018.

Of the three companies listed here, Sea appears the most likely to eventually make a run at Wall Street's loftiest price target.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Metaverse Stocks With 195% to 383% Upside, According to Wall Street
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Metaverse Stocks With 195% to 383% Upside, According to Wall Street\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-16 23:27 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
There's no shortage of sustained double-digit growth opportunities over the next decade. (AAPL) has recently drawn significant interest among investors as the stock has continued to outperform the market since early December. Consensus estimates point to a revenue CAGR of just 4.6% through FY24. Moreover, its adjusted EBITDA margins are likely to remain consistent. However, Apple's services segment (including App Store's revenue) is projected to increase its revenue at a CAGR of 11% through FY26, reaching $115B. We think these estimates are relatively conservative. Based on these estimates, a SOTP implied fair value of $159 was reached for AAPL stock. It also includes other segments but was mainly driven by the two critical segments above. iPhone and services accounted for 43% and 25% of its SOTP valuation.

But, we believe that these estimates may not have captured the multiple growth drivers underpinning the App Store. Why?

Based on recent estimates by Sensor Tower, App Store's revenue is estimated to increase at a CAGR of 20.7% through CY25, reaching $185B. Notably, it's way ahead of the estimate of $115B that we discussed earlier for the entire services segment. Importantly, we have not even included revenue from the other services other than App Store's contribution. Therefore, we think that readers need to consider that the Street consensus may have significantly underestimated the prowess of Apple's highly profitable (estimated operating margin > 70%) App Store.

We are not saying that Sensor Tower's estimate is the source of truth. But, we wanted to highlight that investors should pay more attention to Apple's key services segment. Sensor Tower presented a region by region breakdown, which we thought seemed credible, and we encourage investors to monitor closely.

Don't Ignore Apple's Metaverse Ambitions

Renowned TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimated that Apple's AR/VR device would be released sometime in Q4'22. We believe this is significant as it augurs well for Apple's ambitions into the metaverse. There's little doubt that Meta Platforms (FB) and Microsoft(MSFT) are strengthening their lead in the consumer and commercial AR/VR space.According to TrendForce, global AR/VR device shipment is estimated to reach 12.02M units, up 26.4% YoY in 2022. Moreover, the market is estimated to grow rapidly through 2025, reaching 25.76M units at a CAGR of 38.8%. Notably, it expects Meta's Oculus devices to maintain a 66% consumer market share. But, TrendForce also noted that (edited):

AR/VR device suppliers may look to expand their user base and increase their market penetration via low-priced yet high-spec devices, while compensating for their reduced hardware profitability through software sales. (TrendForce)

Software sales indeed. Apple runs the largest mobile ecosystem globally, which dwarfs Google Play's (GOOG) (GOOGL) revenue. Therefore, we believe the entry of Apple into the metaverse game could significantly raise the company's monetization opportunities. Theories that Meta Platform has ambitions to displace Apple as the next-gen computing platform abound. However, we have also discussed thatMeta Platforms' eventual metaverse will unlikely be the only virtual world we will ever experience. Instead, the metaverse will likely be a series of interconnected virtual worlds that will be interoperable. So, Apple could still be the critical ecosystem owner as creators build their virtual worlds to be monetized through the App Store, reaching out to Apple's more than 1B (and growing) installed base.

TrendForce also added that global VR content revenue is estimated to grow at a rapid 40% CAGR through 2025, reaching $8.3B. The content will be varied but primarily consisting of "gaming/entertainment, videos, and social interactions." Therefore, Apple can continue to leverage such opportunities through its massive ecosystem. We think these opportunities are so novel that it hasn't even been written into Apple's consensus estimates just yet. But, once Apple's AR/VR devices are launched, we believe that the revenue runway could become even more apparent. (AAPL) has recently drawn significant interest among investors as the stock has continued to outperform the market since early December. It's notable since AAPL stock has lagged the market for almost the whole year. However, investors' interests spiked following the series of successful new product launches, including its pivotal iPhone 13.Supply chain checks from numerous sell-side analysts have also demonstrated that the delays over its iPhones have improved markedly. In addition, Goldman Sachs also highlighted that lead times were down significantly in mid-December as Apple continues to leverage strong iPhone demand in its most crucial calendar quarter.AAPL stock continues to hold its price steadily, briefly topped a $3T market cap milestone. However, there shouldn't be any doubt that AAPL stock has had an unmistakable long-term uptrend over the years. Moreover, given that the company has multiple long-term secular drivers driving its business model, we are confident that the stock can reach $200 in 2022.We discuss these critical drivers for AAPL stock as we head into 2022 with the $3T market cap looking over the horizon.Services Revenue Growth Could Have Been Significantly UnderstatedApple revenue and adjusted EBITDA mean consensus estimates. While there has been much chatter over Meta’s role in building out the metaverse in the future, he doesn’t foresee the benefits from augmented/virtual reality materializing until “the years ahead.”

Amazon was another one of Baird’s top megacap picks. The analyst believes the stock has a few tailwinds coming its way, including ramping up monetization of mobile and cross-platform games and a coming change in Apple’s (AAPL) App Store policy. While there has been much chatter over Meta’s role in building out the metaverse in the future, he doesn’t foresee the benefits from augmented/virtual reality materializing until “the years ahead.”Amazon was another one of Baird’s top megacap picks. The company likely will have easier growth comps and the potential to leverage recent investments, Sebastian said. Amazon’s Web Services (AWS) could also be well-positioned to address the growing need to spend on cloud services, he added.Amazon.com is also one of Barron’s top stock picks for the new year.“While the Street has been slower to embrace Amazon as a key beneficiary of digital transformation and a mix shift towards recurring revenues, we think that concerns over slower online retail growth and lower margins have largely run their course,” Sebastian wrote.Wall Street also has been reticent to embrace Zynga, citing concerns over its lack of organic growth and headwinds in customer acquisition—but Sebastian sees those weaknesses as a boon for opportunistic buyers. The analyst believes the stock has a few tailwinds coming its way, including ramping up monetization of mobile and cross-platform games and a coming change in Apple’s (AAPL) App Store policy. The stock has limited risks to its current growth and margin expectations, Sebastian added.Other bargain stocks Sebastian highlighted include Corsair Gaming (CRSR), Vroom (VRM), Playtika Holding (PLTK), and Alibaba Group Holding (BABA). HIs splurge stocks were Airbnb (ABNB) and Shopify (SHOP).Investors who aren’t scared of a little risk could consider betting on controversial stocks that could have significant upside next year, such as Activision Blizzard (ATVI), Twitter (TWTR), and Vroom, Sebastian said.Amazon stock fell 0.9% to $3,384.02, and Zynga dropped 1.7% to $6.29 Wednesday. Consensus estimates point to a revenue CAGR of just 4.6% through FY24. Moreover, its adjusted EBITDA margins are likely to remain consistent. But, AAPL is not projected to gain leverage towards its profitability. Data source: Trefis, author

Readers can refer to the above model, where iPhone's revenue is estimated to increase at a CAGR of just 2.2% over the next five years.

However, we must still caution that we are still very early into Apple's metaverse ambitions. But, we believe that Apple will be a critical player in defining the metaverse through its ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley believes the metaverse can eventually be worth $8 billion just in China!Although the metaverse remains a work in progress, select Wall Street analysts and investment banks see three metaverse-associated stocks skyrocketing between 195% and 383% over the coming 12 months.Image source: Getty Images.Coinbase Global: Implied upside of 208%The first metaverse stock with exceptional upside potential over the next year is the leading cryptocurrency exchange and ecosystem Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN). Analyst Lisa Ellis of MoffettNathanson currently has the highest price target on Coinbase at $600. If it were to trade for this figure, investors would more than triple their money, based on where shares closed this past weekend.Coinbase would be a pretty obvious beneficiary of the metaverse, given that protocol tokens from blockchain-based games have proved essential to early iterations of a decentralized metaverse. With Coinbase leading the way among crypto investments and transactions, it could become the de facto stop for digital currency purchases needed within virtual worlds or ecosystems. But Coinbase sees its future in the metaverse going well beyond its cryptocurrency exchange. In December, the company released a note implying that its role will be to create \"an identity on-ramp into the metaverse.\" Coinbase believes there'll be numerous metaverses linked together, and that having a secure identity tag, stored as a non-fungible token (NFT), will allow users easy access from one metaverse to the next. We've watched this same fee-based price war play out with traditional brokerages, and it ended with trading commissions eventually going to zero.Coinbase is also highly dependent on the success of Bitcoin and Ethereum, which make up the bulk of trading volume on its platform. Any weakness from the \"Big Two\" can quickly reduce sales and profits. With the metaverse many years away from being a big growth driver for Coinbase, it's more likely these concerns will limit this stock's upside.Image source: Getty Images.Matterport: Implied upside of 383%If you want something a bit more under the radar, borderline small-cap stock Matterport (NASDAQ:MTTR) has the potential to nearly quintuple, at least according to one analyst. Daniel Ives at Wedbush Securities has an aggressive $38 price target on shares of Matterport, which equates to upside of 383%, based on where it closed last week.Of the three stocks on this list, Matterport has the most direct ties to the metaverse. Profitability isn't expected anytime soon, and the company is still valued at close to 13 times Wall Street's forecast sales for 2022.Image source: Getty Images.Sea Limited: Implied upside of 195%A final metaverse stock with plenty of upside, according to Wall Street, is Singapore-based Sea Limited (NYSE:SE). The high-water price target on Wall Street of $467 comes from analyst Nirgunan Tiruchelvam at Tellimer Research. Should Sea make waves and hit this lofty prognostication, shareholders would enjoy gains of 195%!Sea's ties to the metaverse are fairly fresh, with the company responsible for raising about $6.3 million for artificial intelligence-based gaming company Refract. It's worth pointing out that the industry's pay-to-play conversion ratio is often closer to just 2%.Beyond gaming, Sea Limited is building up its digital financial services segment, known as SeaMoney. Shopee's gross merchandise value (GMV) annual run-rate surpassed $67 billion in the third quarter, which is up from $10 billion in GMV for the entirety of 2018.Of the three companies listed here, Sea appears the most likely to eventually make a run at Wall Street's loftiest price target.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":579,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9099194376,"gmtCreate":1643310646895,"gmtModify":1676533801973,"author":{"id":"4100787327165020","authorId":"4100787327165020","name":"Cazwyh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a50709c3a01b4bc64250ae4ff8f5454b","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4100787327165020","authorIdStr":"4100787327165020"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"So much fun!
