Fool","summary":"These stocks may be down in the dumps, but their businesses most certainly are not.","content":"

Bear markets are awful.

Unless, of course, you view them as an opportunity to scoop up shares of incredible businesses at wild discounts. We've all thought it: I wish I had bought stock X at crazy price $Y when the market was punishing it in year Z. Well, 2022 may very well be your chance to make good on that wish.

Three Fool.com contributors think new Warren Buffett stock Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, e-commerce titan Amazon, and top semiconductor technologist ASML Holding are buys during this bear market. Here's why.

It's not too late to buy Warren Buffett's latest stock pick

Billy Duberstein (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing): While Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, got a nice 10% boost on the news Warren Buffett took a big stake in the world's largest chipmaker, the stock is still down 50% from its all-time high and still trades for less than 15 times earnings.

That's not too shabby for a company that demonstrates the ability to pass on higher prices to its customers, even if those customers are as powerful as Apple and Nvidia. When confronted with rising materials and freight costs this year, TSMC was able to pass on price increases with no customer refusing, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News.

This is because TSMC dominates the semiconductor manufacturing industry, producing more than 50% of all semiconductors globally, while also leading the production of the most advanced semiconductors made on the latest node.

While both Intel and Samsung are investing heavily in their foundry businesses, with the goal of catching up to TSMC's technology lead, it's far from assured these companies will be able to -- especially as TSMC invests another $36 billion this year in capital expenditures. By comparison, Intel just lowered its 2022 capex plans to $21 billion, amid its own business challenges this year.

Leading-edge semiconductor production is only becoming more and more difficult, as the distance between transistors shrinks to a matter of angstroms. Thus, it may prove difficult for TSMC's peers to catch up -- especially as TSMC is in a stronger position financially as well as technologically.

On its recent conference call, TSMC management said that while the semiconductor industry will likely shrink in 2023 amid a global downturn, TSMC will still grow, due to its competitive advantages:

We expect probably 2023, the semiconductor industry will likely decline. But TSMC also is not immune, but we believe our technology position, strong portfolio in HPC [high-performance computing] and longer-term strategic relationship with customer will enable our business to be more resilient than the overall semiconductor industry. And that's why we say in 2023, still a growth year for TSMC, and the overall industry probably will decline.

A company that can pass along price increases to customers and grow even when its overall industry is declining is no doubt quite attractive -- especially when the stock trades for such a reasonable valuation. No wonder Buffett likes the stock.

Why Amazon is a screaming buy today

Anders Bylund (Amazon): E-commerce and cloud computing giant Amazon is in the dumps right now. The stock has lost more than $1 trillion in market value from the all-time peak in the summer of 2021. The run-up that started with the COVID-19 lockdowns in the spring of 2020 is just a memory now. Amazon share prices are back where they were at the start of 2020, missing out on a dividend-adjusted 27% gain for the S&P 500 index.

The prevailing Amazon thesis today is that online shopping has peaked and there's nowhere to go but down. The company seemed to support that idea when it announced layoffs just ahead of the holidays. The stock sold off further as a result.

I think that's a huge mistake. Amazon bears are missing out on a massive moneymaking opportunity here.

You can't stop the retail market from moving online over time. Sure, there will always be a niche market for brick-and-mortar stores where shoppers can touch and smell the goods. However, most people will eventually prefer the lower costs found on online shopping portals with automated warehouses and ultra-low overhead costs. This revolution is only getting started, as e-commerce sales account for less than 15% of the total retail market today.

So Amazon is pumping the brakes on operating costs for this holiday season, in the middle of an inflation-powered economic crisis. But the stormy seas must eventually subside, and Amazon's business growth should hit the ground running again whenever that happens. Meanwhile, I'm excited to see Amazon's stock price going nowhere in three years while annual sales have increased by 80%.

AMZN DATA BY YCHARTS

In short, the rumors of Amazon's death are exaggerated. This giant isn't going away, and the company's best days are still far in the future. Conventional wisdom tells investors to buy low and sell high, and the best time to follow that advice is when there's blood on the Street. This bear market has made Amazon a screaming buy for long-term investors.

ASML: 30% more expected growth, but 30% less in price

Nicholas Rossolillo (ASML Holding): If you were looking for a green flag before investing in ASML Holding, management just waved one better -- a purple-ish flag. The Dutch company, which has a monopoly on extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment used in making the most advanced chips around, just provided quite the update to its 2025 financial targets.

At the company's investor day a year ago, it predicted it would generate revenue in between $24 billion and $30 billion by 2025. But things have changed. Semiconductor demand is through the roof and only headed higher as chips proliferate in all sorts of consumer devices, industrial equipment, and data centers. The U.S. CHIPS Act and other government programs from other countries are helping boost chip manufacturing. As a result, ASML now thinks its revenue can reach a range of $30 billion to $40 billion by 2025. That's a 30% increase from the outlook last year, at the midpoint of guidance.

For reference, ASML revenue was just over $21 billion in the last 12-month stretch. Assuming it only reaches the low end of its guidance -- $30 billion -- in the next three years, that still represents a compound annual growth rate of 11%. Not bad, ASML.

Bear in mind that ASML's position as a critical chipmaking equipment supplier (and the only one with irreplaceable EUV technology, no less) means it will remain highly profitable. It pays a rising dividend and returns a generous amount of its remaining free cash flow back to shareholders via stock repurchases. Management just boosted that buyback authorization by another $12 billion.

In recent weeks, ASML stock rebounded in a dramatic fashion. However, as of this writing, the stock still remains down over 30% from where it was one year ago. With a lot of reasons to feel even more optimistic about this company's prospects than before, now still looks like an incredible time to buy and hold for the next few years.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Top Stocks You'll Regret Not Buying During This Bear Market
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Top Stocks You'll Regret Not Buying During This Bear Market\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-11-21 16:04 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Bear markets are awful.Unless, of course, you view them as an opportunity to scoop up shares of incredible businesses at wild discounts. It went public at $6.26 per share and surged to an all-time high of $62.84 last February, but subsequently stumbled back to about $14. Like many other EV makers, NIO initially attracted a stampede of bulls during the stimulus-induced rally in growth stocks, but quickly lost its luster amid rising interest rates and other macro headwinds.

Yet NIO is already producing tens of thousands of vehicles each year, putting it far ahead of smaller EV makers that are struggling to ramp up their production. At three times this year's sales, NIO's stock also looks cheap relative to most of its industry peers. So could this be the right time for patient investors to pick up some shares of NIO?

Reviewing NIO's core business

NIO launched its first electric vehicle, the high-end EP9 supercar, back in 2016. However, this vehicle was never mass produced, and none of its 16 production models were ever registered for use on normal roads. In late 2017, NIO properly entered the mainstream EV market with the launch of its full-size ES8 SUV.

NIO subsequently launched two additional mid-size SUVs, the ES6 and EC6, in 2019 and 2020, respectively. In 2021, it rolled out two sedans, the ET5 and ET7, and started delivering both vehicles earlier this year. It also launched another "mid-large" SUV, the ES7, this June. The following table illustrates just how rapidly NIO ramped up its production since its IPO:

<colgroup></colgroup>

Period

9M 2022

FY 2021

FY 2020

FY 2019

FY 2018

Deliveries

82,434

91,429

43,728

20,565

11,348

Data source: NIO.

NIO's year-over-year growth in deliveries notably decelerated in the first nine months of 2022, but it mainly blames that slowdown on COVID-19 disruptions, extreme weather conditions, and supply chain challenges instead of softer demand for its vehicles. NIO's Chinese competitor Li Auto, which delivered 90,491 Li ONE SUVs in 2021, also experienced a similar slowdown, with 86,927 deliveries in the first nine months of 2022.

However, both NIO and Li are still far ahead of their smaller American counterparts like Lucid, which expects to produce 6,000 to 7,000 vehicles this year, and Rivian, which is trying to ramp up its production to manufacture 25,000 vehicles this year.

NIO also differs from its domestic and overseas counterparts because it uses battery-swapping stations, which allow drivers to quickly swap out their depleted batteries for fully charged ones, instead of charging stations. That approach makes NIO similar to the Taiwanese electric scooter maker Gogoro, which also builds networks of battery-swapping stations for riders. Just like Gogoro, NIO charges subscription fees to access those stations.

Reviewing NIO's main challenges

NIO is gradually expanding overseas into smaller European markets like Norway, but it still generates most of its revenue in China. That concentration exposes it to the unpredictable lockdowns related to China's zero-COVID policy and the weakening of the yuan against the U.S. dollar, which reduces the value of its overseas shares. As a Chinese company, NIO could also be hurt by tougher trade restrictions for semiconductors, as well as the ongoing threats to delist U.S.-listed Chinese stocks.

Analysts expect NIO's sales to rise 61% in 2022 and increase another 82% in 2023, but those estimates seem a bit too bullish and don't seem to fully account for its decelerating shipments this year. Macroeconomic challenges could also curb the average consumer's demand for its pricey vehicles, which start at $70,000 to $80,000 (before subsidies).

NIO is still deeply unprofitable, but analysts expect it to turn profitable in 2024. That might seem possible, since NIO's gross margin already rose from negative 5.2% in 2018 to positive 18.9% in 2021 as it scaled up its business. However, its gross margins also declined year-over-year in the first half of 2022 as the macro headwinds squeezed its vehicle margins while it ramped up its investments in its battery-swapping network.

Therefore, analysts' expectations for NIO to turn profitable within two years -- which are pegged to its high sales estimates -- also seem too optimistic. On the bright side, NIO was still sitting on $8.1 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and restricted cash at the end of June, compared to a net loss of $410 million in the first half of the year, so it won't run out of cash anytime soon. Its low debt-to-equity ratio of 0.6 also gives it some room to raise fresh funds.

Is it the right time to buy NIO?

NIO looks cheap compared to Lucid and Rivian, which still trade at 31 and 17 times this year's sales, respectively. But it's still comparable to Li Auto, which also trades at about three times this year's sales. NIO and Li are both growing, but their valuations will remain depressed as long as so many macroeconomic and regulatory clouds are hanging over Chinese companies. Until some of those clouds dissipate, I wouldn't touch NIO, Li, or any other EV makers from China.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Is NIO Stock a Buy Now?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nIs NIO Stock a Buy Now?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-10-11 22:45 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO has taken investors on a wild ride since its IPO in Sept. 2018. That's why analysts who cover the tech giant are always speculating about how many iPhones it will be able to ship in a given year.

In addition, of course, Apple also sells iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, AirPods, Apple TVs, and HomePods, among other devices. However, analyzing Apple's hardware sales only provides a superficial understanding of its sprawling business. To dive deeper, let's review three other facts about Apple that only the smartest investors will likely know.

1. Apple operates a prisoner-taking ecosystem

Apple's services segment, which generated 18% of its revenue in the first half of its fiscal 2022, is arguably more important than any of its hardware businesses. This segment includes iCloud, Apple Pay, the App Store, and subscription-based digital media services like Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and Apple Fitness+. It also covers its Apple Care services.

These are the building blocks of a prisoner-taking ecosystem that essentially locks in Apple's customers and reinforces their loyalty to iOS devices. Unlike Alphabet's Android OS, which lets its users easily switch between different brands of Android devices without losing their data, Apple's proprietary operating system and services steer its customers along a single upgrade path toward other iOS devices.

As of March 26 -- the end of Apple's fiscal 2022 Q2 -- it had 825 million paid subscriptions across all of its services -- which represented a net addition of 165 million paid subscriptions over the prior 12 months. That's why analysts who cover the tech giant are always speculating about how many iPhones it will be able to ship in a given year.In addition, of course, Apple also sells iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, AirPods, Apple TVs, and HomePods, among other devices. However, analyzing Apple's hardware sales only provides a superficial understanding of its sprawling business. To dive deeper, let's review three other facts about Apple that only the smartest investors will likely know.Image source: Apple.1. Apple operates a prisoner-taking ecosystemApple's services segment, which generated 18% of its revenue in the first half of its fiscal 2022, is arguably more important than any of its hardware businesses. During the earnings conference call, CFO Luca Maestri said the company would \"continue to improve the breadth and the quality of our current service offerings while launching new services.\"2.

Here's why. It's not too late to buy Warren Buffett's latest stock pickBilly Duberstein (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing): While Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, got a nice 10% boost on the news Warren Buffett took a big stake in the world's largest chipmaker, the stock is still down 50% from its all-time high and still trades for less than 15 times earnings. By comparison, Intel just lowered its 2022 capex plans to $21 billion, amid its own business challenges this year.Leading-edge semiconductor production is only becoming more and more difficult, as the distance between transistors shrinks to a matter of angstroms. Thus, it may prove difficult for TSMC's peers to catch up -- especially as TSMC is in a stronger position financially as well as technologically. On its recent conference call, TSMC management said that while the semiconductor industry will likely shrink in 2023 amid a global downturn, TSMC will still grow, due to its competitive advantages:We expect probably 2023, the semiconductor industry will likely decline. But TSMC also is not immune, but we believe our technology position, strong portfolio in HPC [high-performance computing] and longer-term strategic relationship with customer will enable our business to be more resilient than the overall semiconductor industry. And that's why we say in 2023, still a growth year for TSMC, and the overall industry probably will decline.A company that can pass along price increases to customers and grow even when its overall industry is declining is no doubt quite attractive -- especially when the stock trades for such a reasonable valuation. No wonder Buffett likes the stock. Why Amazon is a screaming buy todayAnders Bylund (Amazon): E-commerce and cloud computing giant Amazon is in the dumps right now. The stock sold off further as a result.I think that's a huge mistake. Meanwhile, I'm excited to see Amazon's stock price going nowhere in three years while annual sales have increased by 80%.AMZN DATA BY YCHARTSIn short, the rumors of Amazon's death are exaggerated. This giant isn't going away, and the company's best days are still far in the future. Conventional wisdom tells investors to buy low and sell high, and the best time to follow that advice is when there's blood on the Street. This bear market has made Amazon a screaming buy for long-term investors.ASML: 30% more expected growth, but 30% less in priceNicholas Rossolillo (ASML Holding): If you were looking for a green flag before investing in ASML Holding, management just waved one better -- a purple-ish flag. Not bad, ASML.Bear in mind that ASML's position as a critical chipmaking equipment supplier (and the only one with irreplaceable EUV technology, no less) means it will remain highly profitable. With a lot of reasons to feel even more optimistic about this company's prospects than before, now still looks like an incredible time to buy and hold for the next few years.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":415,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9022407266,"gmtCreate":1653563120055,"gmtModify":1676535304298,"author":{"id":"4102559518634870","authorId":"4102559518634870","name":"JCGC","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4102559518634870","authorIdStr":"4102559518634870"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"👍","listText":"👍","text":"👍","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9022407266","repostId":"2238318565","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2238318565","pubTimestamp":1653550825,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2238318565?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-05-26 15:40","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Things About Apple That Smart Investors Know","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2238318565","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"There's a lot more to the tech giant than its annual iPhone shipments.","content":"

If you've been following Apple from an investment perspective -- and even if you haven't -- you probably already know that most of its revenue comes from sales of the iPhone.

2018. The following table illustrates just how rapidly NIO ramped up its production since its IPO:Period9M 2022FY 2021FY 2020FY 2019FY 2018Deliveries82,43491,42943,72820,56511,348Data source: NIO.NIO's year-over-year growth in deliveries notably decelerated in the first nine months of 2022, but it mainly blames that slowdown on COVID-19 disruptions, extreme weather conditions, and supply chain challenges instead of softer demand for its vehicles. NIO's Chinese competitor Li Auto, which delivered 90,491 Li ONE SUVs in 2021, also experienced a similar slowdown, with 86,927 deliveries in the first nine months of 2022.However, both NIO and Li are still far ahead of their smaller American counterparts like Lucid, which expects to produce 6,000 to 7,000 vehicles this year, and Rivian, which is trying to ramp up its production to manufacture 25,000 vehicles this year.NIO also differs from its domestic and overseas counterparts because it uses battery-swapping stations, which allow drivers to quickly swap out their depleted batteries for fully charged ones, instead of charging stations. That approach makes NIO similar to the Taiwanese electric scooter maker Gogoro, which also builds networks of battery-swapping stations for riders. Just like Gogoro, NIO charges subscription fees to access those stations.Reviewing NIO's main challengesNIO is gradually expanding overseas into smaller European markets like Norway, but it still generates most of its revenue in China. That concentration exposes it to the unpredictable lockdowns related to China's zero-COVID policy and the weakening of the yuan against the U.S. dollar, which reduces the value of its overseas shares. As a Chinese company, NIO could also be hurt by tougher trade restrictions for semiconductors, as well as the ongoing threats to delist U.S.-listed Chinese stocks.Analysts expect NIO's sales to rise 61% in 2022 and increase another 82% in 2023, but those estimates seem a bit too bullish and don't seem to fully account for its decelerating shipments this year. Macroeconomic challenges could also curb the average consumer's demand for its pricey vehicles, which start at $70,000 to $80,000 (before subsidies).NIO is still deeply unprofitable, but analysts expect it to turn profitable in 2024. Is it the right time to buy NIO?NIO looks cheap compared to Lucid and Rivian, which still trade at 31 and 17 times this year's sales, respectively. But it's still comparable to Li Auto, which also trades at about three times this year's sales. NIO and Li are both growing, but their valuations will remain depressed as long as so many macroeconomic and regulatory clouds are hanging over Chinese companies. Until some of those clouds dissipate, I wouldn't touch NIO, Li, or any other EV makers from China.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":180,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9931416360,"gmtCreate":1662505868751,"gmtModify":1676537073038,"author":{"id":"4102559518634870","authorId":"4102559518634870","name":"JCGC","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4102559518634870","authorIdStr":"4102559518634870"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Sharing is caring","listText":"Sharing is caring","text":"Sharing is caring","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/9df3c184babfeb3d928ef003fc7e6d19","width":"750","height":"984"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9931416360","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":439,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9076916069,"gmtCreate":1657770202151,"gmtModify":1676536059765,"author":{"id":"4102559518634870","authorId":"4102559518634870","name":"JCGC","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4102559518634870","authorIdStr":"4102559518634870"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9076916069","repostId":"2251193646","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2251193646","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1657768964,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2251193646?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-07-14 11:22","market":"fut","language":"en","title":"Crypto Lender Celsius Files for Bankruptcy","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2251193646","media":"Reuters","summary":"July 13 (Reuters) - U.S. crypto lender Celsius Network said on Wednesday it has filed for bankruptcy","content":"

July 13 (Reuters) - U.S. crypto lender Celsius Network said on Wednesday it has filed for bankruptcy, becoming the latest victim in the cryptocurrency sector to wilt under a dramatic plunge in prices.

New Jersey-based Celsius listed estimated assets and liabilities on a consolidated basis in the range of $1 billion to $10 billion, according to a court filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Southern District of New York.

Crypto lenders boomed during the COVID-19 pandemic, drawing depositors with high interest rates and easy access to loans rarely offered by traditional banks.
