The average annual return of the major U.S. indexes has handily surpassed the average returns of other asset classes, such as bonds and commodities, over the long run.</p><p>But just because the aggregate value of equities rises over time, it doesn&#39;t mean all stocks are going to be winners. Even though Wall Street analysts and investment banks are best-known for cheering on innovation, there are instances where they expect well-known stocks to head lower.</p><p>Based on the lowest published price target from Wall Street, the following three stocks are expected to plunge between 42% and 92% in 2022.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/08bd510be5ae746f0867c5de1184417a\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"464\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p><h2>Tesla Motors: Implied decline of 92%</h2><p>It likely comes as no surprise that electric vehicle (EV) kingpin <b>Tesla Motors</b> (NASDAQ:TSLA) is a highly polarizing stock among Wall Street analysts. While some believe the company could nearly double in value from the $829 a share it closed at on Jan. 27, Gordon Johnson at GLJ Research foresees Tesla falling more than 90%, based on his price target of $67 for the company.</p><p>To be fair, Tesla has done a lot of things right. CEO Elon Musk built the company from the ground-up to mass production. Tesla is the first automaker in more than five decades to successfully enter the auto market and reach mass production.</p><p>Tesla has also had no issues with consumer demand, as evidenced by its production ramp and deliveries. When 2021 began, Tesla was expected to be in the neighborhood of 750,000 EV deliveries for the year. But when the curtain closed, the world&#39;s most valuable automaker had delivered more than 936,000 EVs.  With the gigafactory in Austin, Texas, set to open soon, Tesla will have plenty of opportunity to increase production to meet growing consumer EV demand.</p><p>But there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of Tesla and its $833 billion valuation. For example, even though Elon Musk&#39;s innovation has been a driving force behind his company&#39;s success, he&#39;s also been something of a liability. Musk&#39;s social media presence has previously got him in trouble with regulators, and his forecasted timeline for new product rollouts is almost always far too ambitious. Most new vehicles roll off the assembly line later than expected. Additionally, the company&#39;s full self-driving (FSD) software remains something of a work in progress, despite Musk touting FSD&#39;s potential for more than five years.</p><p>Another clear issue is Tesla&#39;s valuation. Auto stocks are traditionally valued at single-digit price-to-earnings (P/E) ratios to reflect their generally high debt levels and the cyclical nature of the auto industry. Tesla has consistently sported a forward-year P/E ratio in the triple digits.</p><p>With other major automakers spending tens of billions of dollars on EV and battery research, it&#39;s likely that Tesla&#39;s competitive edge will shrink over time, as well. While a $67 price target is probably too bearish given Tesla&#39;s current competitive advantages, I do believe downside is warranted.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a38605bee8e62f3e8aa414fa24278e7e\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p><h2>Moderna: Implied decline of 42%</h2><p>A second extremely popular stock <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> Wall Street investment bank believes will plunge in 2022 is biotech stock <b>Moderna</b> (NASDAQ:MRNA). According to analyst Mani Foroohar of SVB Leerink, Moderna is on track to hit $86 this year, which implies downside of 42% in the company&#39;s shares.</p><p>Most people are probably familiar with Moderna given the role it&#39;s played in combatting the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The company&#39;s vaccine, mRNA-1273, produced a 94.1% vaccine efficacy (VE) in U.S. clinical trials, which were reported in November 2020. To date, it&#39;s one of only three vaccines to have generated a VE of 90% or higher. Although VE isn&#39;t the only measure of success for COVID-19 vaccines, it&#39;s the headline figure a lot of people are using when deciding which vaccines or booster shot to receive.</p><p>To add, the mutability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 is a potential positive for Moderna. While we&#39;d prefer to see COVID-19 go away completely or mutate into less-severe forms, new variants of the disease provide Moderna with recurring revenue opportunities, either with booster shots or variant-specific vaccines.</p><p>However, competition among COVID-19 treatments is only growing. Aside from COVID-19-specific vaccines still in development, competitors are working on influenza/COVID-19 combination vaccines that could prove more appealing. Also, oral treatments are in the works for a handful of companies. This all brings into question how long Moderna can hang onto its share of COVID-19 treatment revenue.</p><p>What&#39;s more, Moderna&#39;s only source of recurring revenue is mRNA-1273. Even with shares of the company retracing 70% from an all-time high, investors are still paying $60 billion for a company that has only one therapy generating sales. In my view, it makes Moderna a risky bet, even after its significant pullback.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b35f28e4268db10d254dbc217fa38cef\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p><h2>Transocean: Implied decline of 69%</h2><p>A third popular stock with the potential to plunge in 2022 is offshore oil-drilling company <b>Transocean</b> (NYSE:RIG). Despite its shares falling 98% since peaking in 2007, one Wall Street investment bank foresees Transocean hitting $1 per share this year, implying further downside of 69% from where it closed on Jan. 27.</p><p>If there is good news for the company, it&#39;s that oil prices are soaring. West Texas Intermediate crude and Brent crude recently surpassed $87/barrel and $90/barrel, respectively. Although deepwater drilling, which is what Transocean specializes in, can be quite costly, the highest price for crude since 2014 offer more than enough incentive for exploration and production (E&amp;P) companies to contract with Transocean at these prices.</p><p>The company&#39;s backlog also appears to suggest that E&amp;P companies are comfortable with crude oil prices for the foreseeable future. Transocean ended 2021 with a $7.1 billion contract backlog, which equates to almost three years&#39; worth of revenue.</p><p>However, the big concern for Transocean is the company&#39;s balance sheet. At the end of September, it had $900 million in cash and cash equivalents and $7.3 billion in total debt. With the Federal Reserve set to begin raising lending rates, highly indebted companies like Transocean are getting put under the microscope by Wall Street.</p><p>Furthermore, Transocean&#39;s deepwater rig utilization rates aren&#39;t that impressive. Even though Wall Street analysts and investment banks are best-known for cheering on innovation, there are instances where they expect well-known stocks to head lower.Based on the lowest published price target from Wall Street, the following three stocks are expected to plunge between 42% and 92% in 2022.Image source: Getty Images.Tesla Motors: Implied decline of 92%It likely comes as no surprise that electric vehicle (EV) kingpin Tesla Motors (NASDAQ:TSLA) is a highly polarizing stock among Wall Street analysts. While some believe the company could nearly double in value from the $829 a share it closed at on Jan. 27, Gordon Johnson at GLJ Research foresees Tesla falling more than 90%, based on his price target of $67 for the company.To be fair, Tesla has done a lot of things right. CEO Elon Musk built the company from the ground-up to mass production. Tesla is the first automaker in more than five decades to successfully enter the auto market and reach mass production.Tesla has also had no issues with consumer demand, as evidenced by its production ramp and deliveries. When 2021 began, Tesla was expected to be in the neighborhood of 750,000 EV deliveries for the year. But when the curtain closed, the world's most valuable automaker had delivered more than 936,000 EVs.  With the gigafactory in Austin, Texas, set to open soon, Tesla will have plenty of opportunity to increase production to meet growing consumer EV demand.But there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of Tesla and its $833 billion valuation. For example, even though Elon Musk's innovation has been a driving force behind his company's success, he's also been something of a liability. Musk's social media presence has previously got him in trouble with regulators, and his forecasted timeline for new product rollouts is almost always far too ambitious. Most new vehicles roll off the assembly line later than expected. Additionally, the company's full self-driving (FSD) software remains something of a work in progress, despite Musk touting FSD's potential for more than five years.Another clear issue is Tesla's valuation. Auto stocks are traditionally valued at single-digit price-to-earnings (P/E) ratios to reflect their generally high debt levels and the cyclical nature of the auto industry. Tesla has consistently sported a forward-year P/E ratio in the triple digits.With other major automakers spending tens of billions of dollars on EV and battery research, it's likely that Tesla's competitive edge will shrink over time, as well. While a $67 price target is probably too bearish given Tesla's current competitive advantages, I do believe downside is warranted.Image source: Getty Images.Moderna: Implied decline of 42%A second extremely popular stock one Wall Street investment bank believes will plunge in 2022 is biotech stock Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA). According to analyst Mani Foroohar of SVB Leerink, Moderna is on track to hit $86 this year, which implies downside of 42% in the company's shares.Most people are probably familiar with Moderna given the role it's played in combatting the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The company's vaccine, mRNA-1273, produced a 94.1% vaccine efficacy (VE) in U.S. clinical trials, which were reported in November 2020. To date, it's one of only three vaccines to have generated a VE of 90% or higher. Although VE isn't the only measure of success for COVID-19 vaccines, it's the headline figure a lot of people are using when deciding which vaccines or booster shot to receive.To add, the mutability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 is a potential positive for Moderna. While we'd prefer to see COVID-19 go away completely or mutate into less-severe forms, new variants of the disease provide Moderna with recurring revenue opportunities, either with booster shots or variant-specific vaccines.However, competition among COVID-19 treatments is only growing. Aside from COVID-19-specific vaccines still in development, competitors are working on influenza/COVID-19 combination vaccines that could prove more appealing. Also, oral treatments are in the works for a handful of companies. This all brings into question how long Moderna can hang onto its share of COVID-19 treatment revenue.What's more, Moderna's only source of recurring revenue is mRNA-1273. Even with shares of the company retracing 70% from an all-time high, investors are still paying $60 billion for a company that has only one therapy generating sales. In my view, it makes Moderna a risky bet, even after its significant pullback.Image source: Getty Images.Transocean: Implied decline of 69%A third popular stock with the potential to plunge in 2022 is offshore oil-drilling company Transocean (NYSE:RIG). Despite its shares falling 98% since peaking in 2007, one Wall Street investment bank foresees Transocean hitting $1 per share this year, implying further downside of 69% from where it closed on Jan. 27.If there is good news for the company, it's that oil prices are soaring. West Texas Intermediate crude and Brent crude recently surpassed $87/barrel and $90/barrel, respectively. Although deepwater drilling, which is what Transocean specializes in, can be quite costly, the highest price for crude since 2014 offer more than enough incentive for exploration and production (E&P) companies to contract with Transocean at these prices.The company's backlog also appears to suggest that E&P companies are comfortable with crude oil prices for the foreseeable future. Transocean ended 2021 with a $7.1 billion contract backlog, which equates to almost three years' worth of revenue.However, the big concern for Transocean is the company's balance sheet. At the end of September, it had $900 million in cash and cash equivalents and $7.3 billion in total debt. With the Federal Reserve set to begin raising lending rates, highly indebted companies like Transocean are getting put under the microscope by Wall Street.Furthermore, Transocean's deepwater rig utilization rates aren't that impressive. The growth rates have probably outpaced what those of you who have yet to cut the cord are paying for your cable or satellite television service. However, Netflix will be just fine. It&#39;s now the priciest of the premium streaming services, but you&#39;re probably not going to cancel your plan.</p><p>Raising prices has always been part of the growing process at Netflix. There may be an outlier here or there in select territories where it needs to be more aggressive (like the move toslash rates in Indiaby 19% to 60% last month), but the direction is generally higher as the audience and its content catalog expand.</p><p>Any increase is a gamble, and we have sometimes seen growth take a hit after an increase. It&#39;s been temporary to this point. As shocking as it is to see a 94% domestic increase in the form of six pricing upticks, every move has taken place with Netflix entertaining more subscribers than it had at the previous hike.</p><p>Taking its standard plan&#39;s monthly pricing from $13.99 to $15.49 is not insignificant. It&#39;s the second largest increase in terms of dollars, dwarfed only by the $2 move from $10.99 to $12.99 a month three years ago. The latest increase also makes Netflix the most expensive streaming service, surpassing the ad-free tier of <b>AT&amp;T</b>&#39;s HBO Max at $14.99 a month. Again, Netflix will be just fine.</p><p>You know what has grown even faster than this 94% increase? The amount of money that Netflix spends on content. A growing audience benefits Netflix, of course, but it also helps viewers. The money that Netflix is making -- as a result of its growing audience -- is outpacing its membership growth. It has more money to spend on content. The cadence of Netflix releases of original TV shows and movies along with the older licensed content it acquires is always increasing. The pace is even more remarkable in terms of international markets now that Netflix has the breadth to earmark more money to different areas. It&#39;s the scalability of the business paying off.</p><p>It&#39;s not a surprise that Netflix is routinely shattering its viewership records.<i>Squid Game</i>raised the bar in terms of the sum of Netflix viewers for a TV show in its latest quarter. On the original-movies front, it wouldn&#39;t be a shock to hear Netflix announce later this week in its earnings call that<i>Don&#39;t Look Up</i>is about to break the record set by<i>Red Notice</i>just last month.</p><p>Netflix will get to the point where it has overplayed its elasticity. It won&#39;t be pretty, and the same scalability that has been so explosive in terms of content spend on the way up will be tested on the way down. It doesn&#39;t mean folks will be trying to splice the cord they cut back together. Cable and satellite TV are toast. Those prices<i>do</i>keep inching higher every year, and you&#39;re getting less. Linear TV is no longer a complete platform the way it was a decade ago, because those viewers no longer have all of the content that everyone&#39;s talking about. The real competition for Netflix is the rival streaming services. The company&#39;s vaccine, NVX-CoV2373, was stellar in two late-stage trials in 2021. The U.K. and the U.S./Mexico trials produced vaccine efficacy rates of 89.7% and 90.4%, respectively. Even though Wall Street analysts and investment banks are best-known for cheering on innovation, there are instances where they expect well-known stocks to head lower.</p><p>Based on the lowest published price target from Wall Street, the following three stocks are expected to plunge between 42% and 92% in 2022.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/08bd510be5ae746f0867c5de1184417a\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"464\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p><h2>Tesla Motors: Implied decline of 92%</h2><p>It likely comes as no surprise that electric vehicle (EV) kingpin <b>Tesla Motors</b> (NASDAQ:TSLA) is a highly polarizing stock among Wall Street analysts. While some believe the company could nearly double in value from the $829 a share it closed at on Jan. 27, Gordon Johnson at GLJ Research foresees Tesla falling more than 90%, based on his price target of $67 for the company.</p><p>To be fair, Tesla has done a lot of things right. CEO Elon Musk built the company from the ground-up to mass production. Tesla is the first automaker in more than five decades to successfully enter the auto market and reach mass production.</p><p>Tesla has also had no issues with consumer demand, as evidenced by its production ramp and deliveries. When 2021 began, Tesla was expected to be in the neighborhood of 750,000 EV deliveries for the year. But when the curtain closed, the world&#39;s most valuable automaker had delivered more than 936,000 EVs.  With the gigafactory in Austin, Texas, set to open soon, Tesla will have plenty of opportunity to increase production to meet growing consumer EV demand.</p><p>But there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of Tesla and its $833 billion valuation. For example, even though Elon Musk&#39;s innovation has been a driving force behind his company&#39;s success, he&#39;s also been something of a liability. Musk&#39;s social media presence has previously got him in trouble with regulators, and his forecasted timeline for new product rollouts is almost always far too ambitious. Most new vehicles roll off the assembly line later than expected. Additionally, the company&#39;s full self-driving (FSD) software remains something of a work in progress, despite Musk touting FSD&#39;s potential for more than five years.</p><p>Another clear issue is Tesla&#39;s valuation. Auto stocks are traditionally valued at single-digit price-to-earnings (P/E) ratios to reflect their generally high debt levels and the cyclical nature of the auto industry. Tesla has consistently sported a forward-year P/E ratio in the triple digits.</p><p>With other major automakers spending tens of billions of dollars on EV and battery research, it&#39;s likely that Tesla&#39;s competitive edge will shrink over time, as well. While a $67 price target is probably too bearish given Tesla&#39;s current competitive advantages, I do believe downside is warranted.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a38605bee8e62f3e8aa414fa24278e7e\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p><h2>Moderna: Implied decline of 42%</h2><p>A second extremely popular stock <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> Wall Street investment bank believes will plunge in 2022 is biotech stock <b>Moderna</b> (NASDAQ:MRNA). According to analyst Mani Foroohar of SVB Leerink, Moderna is on track to hit $86 this year, which implies downside of 42% in the company&#39;s shares.</p><p>Most people are probably familiar with Moderna given the role it&#39;s played in combatting the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The company&#39;s vaccine, mRNA-1273, produced a 94.1% vaccine efficacy (VE) in U.S. clinical trials, which were reported in November 2020. To date, it&#39;s one of only three vaccines to have generated a VE of 90% or higher. Although VE isn&#39;t the only measure of success for COVID-19 vaccines, it&#39;s the headline figure a lot of people are using when deciding which vaccines or booster shot to receive.</p><p>To add, the mutability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 is a potential positive for Moderna. While we&#39;d prefer to see COVID-19 go away completely or mutate into less-severe forms, new variants of the disease provide Moderna with recurring revenue opportunities, either with booster shots or variant-specific vaccines.</p><p>However, competition among COVID-19 treatments is only growing. Aside from COVID-19-specific vaccines still in development, competitors are working on influenza/COVID-19 combination vaccines that could prove more appealing. Also, oral treatments are in the works for a handful of companies. This all brings into question how long Moderna can hang onto its share of COVID-19 treatment revenue.</p><p>What&#39;s more, Moderna&#39;s only source of recurring revenue is mRNA-1273. Even with shares of the company retracing 70% from an all-time high, investors are still paying $60 billion for a company that has only one therapy generating sales. In my view, it makes Moderna a risky bet, even after its significant pullback.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b35f28e4268db10d254dbc217fa38cef\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p><h2>Transocean: Implied decline of 69%</h2><p>A third popular stock with the potential to plunge in 2022 is offshore oil-drilling company <b>Transocean</b> (NYSE:RIG). Despite its shares falling 98% since peaking in 2007, one Wall Street investment bank foresees Transocean hitting $1 per share this year, implying further downside of 69% from where it closed on Jan. 27.</p><p>If there is good news for the company, it&#39;s that oil prices are soaring. West Texas Intermediate crude and Brent crude recently surpassed $87/barrel and $90/barrel, respectively. Although deepwater drilling, which is what Transocean specializes in, can be quite costly, the highest price for crude since 2014 offer more than enough incentive for exploration and production (E&amp;P) companies to contract with Transocean at these prices.</p><p>The company&#39;s backlog also appears to suggest that E&amp;P companies are comfortable with crude oil prices for the foreseeable future. Transocean ended 2021 with a $7.1 billion contract backlog, which equates to almost three years&#39; worth of revenue.</p><p>However, the big concern for Transocean is the company&#39;s balance sheet. At the end of September, it had $900 million in cash and cash equivalents and $7.3 billion in total debt. With the Federal Reserve set to begin raising lending rates, highly indebted companies like Transocean are getting put under the microscope by Wall Street.</p><p>Furthermore, Transocean&#39;s deepwater rig utilization rates aren&#39;t that impressive. The average annual return of the major U.S. indexes has handily surpassed the average returns of other asset classes, such as bonds and commodities, over the long run.But just because the aggregate value of equities rises over time, it doesn't mean all stocks are going to be winners. Even though Wall Street analysts and investment banks are best-known for cheering on innovation, there are instances where they expect well-known stocks to head lower.Based on the lowest published price target from Wall Street, the following three stocks are expected to plunge between 42% and 92% in 2022.Image source: Getty Images.Tesla Motors: Implied decline of 92%It likely comes as no surprise that electric vehicle (EV) kingpin Tesla Motors (NASDAQ:TSLA) is a highly polarizing stock among Wall Street analysts. While some believe the company could nearly double in value from the $829 a share it closed at on Jan. 27, Gordon Johnson at GLJ Research foresees Tesla falling more than 90%, based on his price target of $67 for the company.To be fair, Tesla has done a lot of things right. CEO Elon Musk built the company from the ground-up to mass production. Tesla is the first automaker in more than five decades to successfully enter the auto market and reach mass production.Tesla has also had no issues with consumer demand, as evidenced by its production ramp and deliveries. When 2021 began, Tesla was expected to be in the neighborhood of 750,000 EV deliveries for the year. But when the curtain closed, the world's most valuable automaker had delivered more than 936,000 EVs.  With the gigafactory in Austin, Texas, set to open soon, Tesla will have plenty of opportunity to increase production to meet growing consumer EV demand.But there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of Tesla and its $833 billion valuation. For example, even though Elon Musk's innovation has been a driving force behind his company's success, he's also been something of a liability. Musk's social media presence has previously got him in trouble with regulators, and his forecasted timeline for new product rollouts is almost always far too ambitious. Most new vehicles roll off the assembly line later than expected. Additionally, the company's full self-driving (FSD) software remains something of a work in progress, despite Musk touting FSD's potential for more than five years.Another clear issue is Tesla's valuation. Auto stocks are traditionally valued at single-digit price-to-earnings (P/E) ratios to reflect their generally high debt levels and the cyclical nature of the auto industry. Tesla has consistently sported a forward-year P/E ratio in the triple digits.With other major automakers spending tens of billions of dollars on EV and battery research, it's likely that Tesla's competitive edge will shrink over time, as well. While a $67 price target is probably too bearish given Tesla's current competitive advantages, I do believe downside is warranted.Image source: Getty Images.Moderna: Implied decline of 42%A second extremely popular stock one Wall Street investment bank believes will plunge in 2022 is biotech stock Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA). According to analyst Mani Foroohar of SVB Leerink, Moderna is on track to hit $86 this year, which implies downside of 42% in the company's shares.Most people are probably familiar with Moderna given the role it's played in combatting the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The company's vaccine, mRNA-1273, produced a 94.1% vaccine efficacy (VE) in U.S. clinical trials, which were reported in November 2020. To date, it's one of only three vaccines to have generated a VE of 90% or higher. Although VE isn't the only measure of success for COVID-19 vaccines, it's the headline figure a lot of people are using when deciding which vaccines or booster shot to receive.To add, the mutability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 is a potential positive for Moderna. While we'd prefer to see COVID-19 go away completely or mutate into less-severe forms, new variants of the disease provide Moderna with recurring revenue opportunities, either with booster shots or variant-specific vaccines.However, competition among COVID-19 treatments is only growing. Aside from COVID-19-specific vaccines still in development, competitors are working on influenza/COVID-19 combination vaccines that could prove more appealing. Also, oral treatments are in the works for a handful of companies. This all brings into question how long Moderna can hang onto its share of COVID-19 treatment revenue.What's more, Moderna's only source of recurring revenue is mRNA-1273. Even with shares of the company retracing 70% from an all-time high, investors are still paying $60 billion for a company that has only one therapy generating sales. In my view, it makes Moderna a risky bet, even after its significant pullback.Image source: Getty Images.Transocean: Implied decline of 69%A third popular stock with the potential to plunge in 2022 is offshore oil-drilling company Transocean (NYSE:RIG). Despite its shares falling 98% since peaking in 2007, one Wall Street investment bank foresees Transocean hitting $1 per share this year, implying further downside of 69% from where it closed on Jan. 27.If there is good news for the company, it's that oil prices are soaring. West Texas Intermediate crude and Brent crude recently surpassed $87/barrel and $90/barrel, respectively. Although deepwater drilling, which is what Transocean specializes in, can be quite costly, the highest price for crude since 2014 offer more than enough incentive for exploration and production (E&P) companies to contract with Transocean at these prices.The company's backlog also appears to suggest that E&P companies are comfortable with crude oil prices for the foreseeable future. Transocean ended 2021 with a $7.1 billion contract backlog, which equates to almost three years' worth of revenue.However, the big concern for Transocean is the company's balance sheet. At the end of September, it had $900 million in cash and cash equivalents and $7.3 billion in total debt. With the Federal Reserve set to begin raising lending rates, highly indebted companies like Transocean are getting put under the microscope by Wall Street.Furthermore, Transocean's deepwater rig utilization rates aren't that impressive. Since this traditional segment is regulated by state utility commissions, it means no exposure to potentially volatile wholesale electricity pricing.</p><h2>2. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NVAX\">Novavax</a></h2><p>For investors seeking growth, biotech stock <b>Novavax</b> (NASDAQ:NVAX) can be their ticket to riches in 2022.</p><p>Novavax is one of more than a dozen drugmakers working to create treatments for COVID-19. The company&#39;s vaccine, NVX-CoV2373, was stellar in two late-stage trials in 2021. The U.K. and the U.S./Mexico trials produced vaccine efficacy rates of 89.7% and 90.4%, respectively. As one of only three prominent vaccines to reach efficacy of 90%, there looks to be a clear path to Novavax becoming a major global player in the fight against COVID.</p><p>Furthermore, investors are able to buy into Novavax relatively cheaply after the company ran into a number of operational snags last year, which are now in the rearview mirror. With Novavax beginning to receive Emergency Use Authorizations around the world, and the company expected to launch NVX-Cov2373 in numerous key markets this year, it&#39;s a good bet to make investors richer.</p><h2>3. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WBA\">Walgreens Boots Alliance</a></h2><p>If you&#39;re an investor who appreciates value stocks, pharmacy chain <b>Walgreens Boots Alliance</b> (NASDAQ:WBA), with its forward-year price-to-earnings ratio of 10, is a company with all the tools needed to make you richer in 2022.</p><p>Although Walgreens was hurt by reduced foot traffic during the initial stage of the pandemic, the company&#39;s multipoint turnaround plan is already well underway and set to pay big dividends in the new year.</p><p>For example, the company was able to achieve over $2 billion in annual operating-expense reductions a year ahead of schedule. All the while, it&#39;s been aggressively spending on digitization initiatives designed to encourage consumers to purchase products online for delivery, or for pickup via drive-thru. Even though online sales represent a small sliver of total revenue, it&#39;s a segment with sustainable double-digit growth potential.</p><p>Arguably more exciting is that Walgreens has partnered with VillageMD to open roughly 600 full-service health clinics located in its stores in more than 30 U.S. markets. These clinics can funnel local residents right to Walgreens&#39; high-margin pharmacy.</p><h2>4. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AMZN\">Amazon</a></h2><p>Best-of-breed stocks are a good bet to make investors richer in 2022. That&#39;s why <b>Amazon</b> (NASDAQ:AMZN), a leader in not just one category, but <i>two</i>, is a no-brainer buy.</p><p>Most people are familiar with Amazon because of its dominance in e-commerce. According to eMarketer, it accounted for an estimated 41.4% of all online sales in the U.S. in 2021. But it&#39;s the company&#39;s 200 million global Prime members who are really fueling the fire for this segment. The annual fees Amazon collects from its Prime users help to buoy razor-thin margins, and are what allow it to undercut brick-and-mortar retailers on price.</p><p>What folks might not realize is that Amazon is also the leader in cloud infrastructure services. Amazon Web Services accounts for close to a third of all global cloud infrastructure spending. The important thing to recognize here is that cloud services, along with advertising and subscriptions, are Amazon&#39;s fastest-growing and highest-margin segments. As long as these segments continue to grow rapidly, Amazon&#39;s share price and operating cash flow can head significantly higher, even if growth in e-commerce revenue slows dramatically.</p><h2>5. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PUBM\">PubMatic</a></h2><p>For small-cap stock investors who want a top stock with a higher risk/reward profile, let me introduce you to <b>PubMatic</b> (NASDAQ:PUBM).</p><p>PubMatic operates a cloud-based programmatic ad platform and is a sell-side provider. In English, this means its software handles the optimization of digital ad placement, with the company selling display space for publishers (its clients). Though publishers do offer input, such as the minimum price they&#39;d be willing to accept to sell display space, PubMatic handles everything else. The platform&#39;s machine-learning algorithms are designed to put relevant ads in front of users, while also maximizing what publishers net from advertisers.</p><p>The beauty of the PubMatic operating model is that advertising dollars are shifting more and more to digital platforms. Whereas global digital ad spend is expected to increase by an average of 10% annually through mid-decade, PubMatic&#39;s sales growth has consistently doubled up this forecast. And it&#39;s averaged an organic growth rate of at least 50% in four straight quarters. If that&#39;s not a ringing endorsement of its sell-side platform by publishers, I&#39;m not sure what is.</p><h2>6. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NLY\">Annaly Capital Management</a></h2><p>Income investors can make bank with top stocks in 2022 as well. Mortgage real estate investment trust (REIT) <b>Annaly Capital Management</b> (NYSE:NLY) offers an inflation-crushing, yet sustainable, 10.9% dividend yield, and has averaged a yield of roughly 10% over the past two decades.</p><p>Put simply, mortgage REITs like Annaly aim to borrow money at lower short-term rates, which can then be used to purchase higher-yielding long-term assets, such as mortgage-backed securities. Subtracting the average borrowing rate from this long-term average yield produces what&#39;s known as net interest margin.</p><p>During the early stages of an economic recovery, it&#39;s very common for the interest rate yield curve to steepen (i.e., the gap between long-term and short-term Treasury bond yields widens). When this happens, Annaly usually sees its net interest margin rise.</p><p>What&#39;s more, Annaly almost exclusively buys agency assets that are backed by the federal government. This allows the company to prudently use leverage to its advantage.</p><h2>7. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/UNH\">UnitedHealth Group</a></h2><p>Another top stock with a long history of making its shareholders money is <b>UnitedHealth Group</b> (NYSE:UNH). It&#39;s provided a positive total return for shareholders in 18 of the past 20 years.</p><p>UnitedHealth Group is probably best known for providing health insurance. While insurance isn&#39;t a fast-growing market, it does provide the company with transparent and predictable cash flow. It also doesn&#39;t hurt that insurance companies usually have strong pricing power when it comes to increasing premiums to cover their expenses. However, UnitedHealth&#39;s key operating segment isn&#39;t insurance -- it&#39;s Optum.</p><p>Optum handles pharmacy-care services, provides healthcare software, and offers other high-margin health management services for hospitals and clinics. Optum is growing much faster than the insurance segment, and is capable of much higher margins as well.</p><h2>8. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PING\">Ping Identity Holding</a></h2><p>Among double-digit growth trends, none looks safer than cybersecurity in 2022. That&#39;s why <b>Ping Identity Holding</b> (NYSE:PING) can make investors richer this year.</p><p>As its name rightly suggests, Ping&#39;s cloud-based platform focuses on identity verification for its clients. It also leans on artificial intelligence to grow smarter at recognizing and responding to potential threats over time. Being at the forefront of that wave helped make Musk, Tesla’s chief executive officer, the world’s richest person this year, with a fortune of about $273 billion. </p>\n<p>The Austin, Texas-based carmaker typically counts sales until midnight on the last day of a quarter, which in this case means New Year’s Eve. On average, a dozen analysts in a Bloomberg survey estimate Tesla may report about 265,000 deliveries -- and more-recent updates, such as a 290,000 prediction last week from Dan Levy of Credit Suisse, suggest the number may skew higher. That’s up from the record 241,300 set in the third quarter.</p>\n<p>Tesla employees typically go all out in the final days of a quarter, with volunteers from local owners clubs dropping by with donuts or volunteering to help. Musk egged them on in one of his many tweets, thanking staff last week for working during the holidays and noting “lots of Tesla cars to deliver before year end!’ </p>\n<p>Tesla makes the Models S, X, 3 and Y at its auto plant in Fremont, California. It also produces the Models 3 and Y at a factory near Shanghai, which makes cars for China and Europe. The output from the Asia factory will be crucial to both the delivery figure and the company’s gross margins.</p>\n<p>In 2022, Tesla will open two additional assembly factories -- one in Austin and one in Berlin -- allowing it to manufacture vehicles on three continents and expand production capacity.</p>\n<p>Joseph Spak, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets, expects Tesla to deliver 285,000 units. If he’s right, that would bring Tesla’s total deliveries for the year to roughly 913,000.</p>\n<p>In 2020, the company delivered just shy of half a million vehicles for the year and Tesla has said repeatedly it expects 50% annual growth in deliveries over a multi-year period.</p>\n<p>A strong quarter would show that Tesla is holding up well amid supply-chain turmoil, the highly contagious omicron variant and snowstorms that have clobbered much of the West Coast. </p>\n<p>Musk has said that shortages of semiconductors are crimping production -- going so far as to call out two of the world’s biggest chip suppliers. But it has fared better than other auto makers due in part to efforts by its engineers to rewrite software to adapt to whatever chips they could find for other purposes.</p>\n<p>It could also give a boost to the company’s stock, which has fallen more than 12% from its Nov. 4 closing high as Musk offloaded a big chunk of his stake in the company. On Friday, Tesla rose 0.4% at 9:37 a.m. in New York.</p>\n<p>After a Nov. 6 <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TWTR\">Twitter</a> poll, in which the CEO asked his followers if he should sell 10% of his holdings and they voted yes, Musk has sold approximately 15.6 million shares. That’s nearly 10% of his stake including exercisable options. Being at the forefront of that wave helped make Musk, Tesla’s chief executive officer, the world’s richest person this year, with a fortune of about $273 billion. \nThe Austin, Texas-based carmaker typically counts sales until midnight on the last day of a quarter, which in this case means New Year’s Eve. On average, a dozen analysts in a Bloomberg survey estimate Tesla may report about 265,000 deliveries -- and more-recent updates, such as a 290,000 prediction last week from Dan Levy of Credit Suisse, suggest the number may skew higher. That’s up from the record 241,300 set in the third quarter.\nTesla employees typically go all out in the final days of a quarter, with volunteers from local owners clubs dropping by with donuts or volunteering to help. Musk egged them on in one of his many tweets, thanking staff last week for working during the holidays and noting “lots of Tesla cars to deliver before year end!’ \nTesla makes the Models S, X, 3 and Y at its auto plant in Fremont, California. It also produces the Models 3 and Y at a factory near Shanghai, which makes cars for China and Europe. The output from the Asia factory will be crucial to both the delivery figure and the company’s gross margins.\nIn 2022, Tesla will open two additional assembly factories -- one in Austin and one in Berlin -- allowing it to manufacture vehicles on three continents and expand production capacity.\nJoseph Spak, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets, expects Tesla to deliver 285,000 units. If he’s right, that would bring Tesla’s total deliveries for the year to roughly 913,000.\nIn 2020, the company delivered just shy of half a million vehicles for the year and Tesla has said repeatedly it expects 50% annual growth in deliveries over a multi-year period.\nA strong quarter would show that Tesla is holding up well amid supply-chain turmoil, the highly contagious omicron variant and snowstorms that have clobbered much of the West Coast. \nMusk has said that shortages of semiconductors are crimping production -- going so far as to call out two of the world’s biggest chip suppliers. But it has fared better than other auto makers due in part to efforts by its engineers to rewrite software to adapt to whatever chips they could find for other purposes.\nIt could also give a boost to the company’s stock, which has fallen more than 12% from its Nov. 4 closing high as Musk offloaded a big chunk of his stake in the company. On Friday, Tesla rose 0.4% at 9:37 a.m. in New York.\nAfter a Nov. 6 Twitter poll, in which the CEO asked his followers if he should sell 10% of his holdings and they voted yes, Musk has sold approximately 15.6 million shares. That’s nearly 10% of his stake including exercisable options.
