Others will take advantage of opportunities that arise.</p><p>Below is a list of large-cap tech stocks that have fallen at least 20% from their 52-week intraday highs.</p><p><b>Rate pressure</b></p><p>On Jan. 5, the Nasdaq Composite Index  fell 3.5%, with declines accelerating after the release of the minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee&#39;s meeting on Dec. 14-15. The FOMC announced on Dec. 15 that the Fed would end its net purchases of U.S. Treasury bonds and mortgage-backed securities in March. Those purchases and the expansion of the Fed&#39;s balance sheet have been holding down long-term interest rates through the coronavirus pandemic.</p><p>The minutes  indicate some members of the committee want the Fed to go further than ending the net bond purchases. Some argued the Fed should also stop replacing bonds in its portfolio as they mature, to shrink the central bank&#39;s balance sheet. This would put further upward pressure on interest rates.</p><p>The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes  increased 5 basis points on Jan. 5 to 1.71%. That was up from 1.44% on Dec. 14, the day before the Fed&#39;s current policy was announced.</p><p><b>Time for tech investors to go shopping?</b></p><p>On Jan. 6, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives wrote in a note to clients that in light of the Fed-driven tech sell-off, &#34;many of the secular tech winners we believe will drive the 4th Industrial Revolution are now in oversold territory with valuations we find verycompelling given the outsized growth prospects over the next 12 to 18 months.&#34;</p><p>Ives listed his favorite names for investors to buy now in several categories. Among large-cap tech stocks, his favorites are Apple Inc., which had pulled back only 4% from its 52-week high (set on Jan. 4), and Microsoft Corp., which was down 10% from its 52-week high set on Nov. 22.</p><p><b>These big tech stocks have dropped the most</b></p><p>The following screen is drawn from the information technology sector of S&amp;P 500 Index , to which several tech-oriented stocks in other sectors were added, including Amazon.com Inc. and Tesla Inc. in the consumer discretionary sector, and Twitter Inc., Netflix Inc., <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/FB\">Meta Platforms</a> Inc. (FB) and video game developers in the communications sector.</p><p>From that list of 88 &#34;big tech&#34; stocks, 25 were down at least 20% from their 52-week highs through the close on Jan. 5. Others will take advantage of opportunities that arise.Below is a list of large-cap tech stocks that have fallen at least 20% from their 52-week intraday highs.Rate pressureOn Jan. 5, the Nasdaq Composite Index  fell 3.5%, with declines accelerating after the release of the minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee's meeting on Dec. 14-15. The FOMC announced on Dec. 15 that the Fed would end its net purchases of U.S. Treasury bonds and mortgage-backed securities in March. Those purchases and the expansion of the Fed's balance sheet have been holding down long-term interest rates through the coronavirus pandemic.The minutes  indicate some members of the committee want the Fed to go further than ending the net bond purchases. Some argued the Fed should also stop replacing bonds in its portfolio as they mature, to shrink the central bank's balance sheet. Hospitalizations also kept climbing, but at a slower pace, as the daily average reached 81,847 on Thursday.</p><p>Airlines canceled hundreds of flights Thursday because of labor shortages after thousands were scrubbed during the Christmas weekend, while the Federal Aviation Administration warned of possible delays tied to the virus at the agency. Also, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended that Americans avoid taking cruises, whether they are vaccinated or not.</p><p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/JPM\">JPMorgan Chase</a> &amp; Co. is <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> prominent bank that has offered its employees the option of working from home to start 2022. The money-center bank run by Jamie Dimon is “allowing for more flexibility during the first two weeks of January to work from home (if your role allows) at your manager’s discretion,” Bloomberg reported, citing a Thursday memo to employees.</p><p>However, in South Africa, where the omicron variant of COVID was first identified, the government said the country’s latest viral wave had subsided and it would be easing restrictions. In the U.S., while daily COVID cases soared to a record high, the CDC said that hospitalizations or deaths as a result of omicron are comparatively low. ZEPP were flat, after the <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CAAS\">China</a>-based smart health technology company cut its fourth-quarter revenue outlook, citing a “greater than anticipated effects of COVID” and a more persistent global shortage of semiconductors.</p><p>The U.K. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MDCO\">Medicines</a> and <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/HCSG\">Healthcare</a> products Regulatory Agency said it has approved <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/PFE\">Pfizer</a>’s PFE Paxlovid oral antiviral for people with mild to moderate COVID-19 who have at least one risk factor for developing severe illness. Shares of Pfizer rose 1.1%.</p><p><b>How did other assets fare?</b></p><p>The yield on the 10-year Treasury note was trading around 1.496%, marking its biggest yearly yield climb since 2013.</p><p>The ICE U.S. Dollar Index, a measure of the currency against a basket of six major rivals, fell 0.3%.</p><p>Oil futures fell, with <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WSTC\">West</a> Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery declining 2.3% to settle at $75.21 a barrel.
