CrowdStrike stock has gained 16% in 2024, rebounding somewhat from a big sell-off after the IT outage, caused by a faulty software update.
\n
On the stock market today, CrowdStrike stock fell a fraction to 295.57. Also, Delta has claimed it suffered a $380 million revenue hit.
\n
Delta has threatened both CrowdStrike and Microsoft (MSFT) with lawsuits.
\n
\"The havoc that was created deserves, in my opinion, to be fully compensated for,\" Delta Chief Executive Bastian told CNBC. \"This matter is now in the hands of our attorneys. We hope that we'll see a resolution but we keep all of our options open.\"
\n
In August, Delta hired prominent attorney David Boies to seek damages from CrowdStrike and Microsoft. Delta canceled more than 5,000 mainline flights over several days, far more than rivals.
\n
Microsoft 'Kernel' Involved In IT Outage
\n
CrowdStrike's software update required access to Microsoft's operating system. The heart of the Microsoft Windows software are known as the \"kernel.\"
\n
Amid the IT outage, Microsoft and CrowdStrike continue to have close ties.
\n
Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella took part in a CrowdStrike customer conference in early September. Over the next two years, Microsoft plans changes to the Windows kernel system. But, Microsoft will still grant CrowdStrike and other cybersecurity firms access to the kernel software layer.
\n
TD Cowen analyst Shaul Eyal in a recent report noted that if Microsoft restricted access to the kernel layer, it could face U.S. government anti-trust action. That's because Microsoft sell cybersecurity products itself and could have a competitive advantage from restricting access.
\n
A 2009 European Union decision required Microsoft to allow 3rd-party vendors access to its software kernel.
\n
CrowdStrike Stock Competition
\n
At a private Windows Endpoint Security Ecosystem summit in Redmond, Wash. on Sept. 10, Microsoft also updated its plans to make software changes, analysts said.
\n
Further, CrowdStrike competes with Palo Alto Networks (PANW), SentinelOne (S)and others in the \"endpoint\" market. CrowdStrike stock has gained 16% in 2024, rebounding somewhat from a big sell-off after the IT outage, caused by a faulty software update.\nOn the stock market today, CrowdStrike stock fell a fraction to 295.57. Delta reported third quarter earnings before the market open.\n\n\n\n↑\nX\n\n\n\n\nHow To Buy Stocks: IBD's Four Pillars Of Investing\n\n\nSee All Videos\n\n\n\n\nNOW PLAYING\nHow To Buy Stocks: IBD's Four Pillars Of Investing\n\n\n\n\nFurther, in Q3, Delta took a one-time 45-cent hit to earnings tied to the IT outage. Also, Delta has claimed it suffered a $380 million revenue hit.\nDelta has threatened both CrowdStrike and Microsoft (MSFT) with lawsuits.\n\"The havoc that was created deserves, in my opinion, to be fully compensated for,\" Delta Chief Executive Bastian told CNBC. \"This matter is now in the hands of our attorneys. We hope that we'll see a resolution but we keep all of our options open.\"\nIn August, Delta hired prominent attorney David Boies to seek damages from CrowdStrike and Microsoft. Delta canceled more than 5,000 mainline flights over several days, far more than rivals.\nMicrosoft 'Kernel' Involved In IT Outage\nCrowdStrike's software update required access to Microsoft's operating system. The heart of the Microsoft Windows software are known as the \"kernel.\"\nAmid the IT outage, Microsoft and CrowdStrike continue to have close ties.\nMicrosoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella took part in a CrowdStrike customer conference in early September. Over the next two years, Microsoft plans changes to the Windows kernel system. But, Microsoft will still grant CrowdStrike and other cybersecurity firms access to the kernel software layer.\nTD Cowen analyst Shaul Eyal in a recent report noted that if Microsoft restricted access to the kernel layer, it could face U.S. government anti-trust action. That's because Microsoft sell cybersecurity products itself and could have a competitive advantage from restricting access.\nA 2009 European Union decision required Microsoft to allow 3rd-party vendors access to its software kernel.\nCrowdStrike Stock Competition\nAt a private Windows Endpoint Security Ecosystem summit in Redmond, Wash. on Sept. 10, Microsoft also updated its plans to make software changes, analysts said.\nFurther, CrowdStrike competes with Palo Alto Networks (PANW), SentinelOne (S)and others in the \"endpoint\" market. Endpoint security tools detect malware on laptops, mobile phones and other devices that access corporate networks.\nAlso, CrowdStrike is building a broad, threat-detection cybersecurity platform called XDR, or extended detection and response. It monitors endpoints as well as web/email gateways, web application firewalls and cloud business workloads. Zscaler (ZS) is also among CrowdStrike rivals.\nCrowdStrike Stock Up 56% Before IT Outage\nOn July 9, CrowdStrike was up 56% in 2024, its high before the IT outage.\nAmid the IT outage, analysts expect lower growth for \"net new\" annual recurring revenue (ARR) because of delays in signing contracts and expectations that many customers will seek price discounts when renewing contracts to help cover the cost of business disruptions.\nCrowdStrike's negotiations with customers over pricing concessions are expected to play out through 2025 and perhaps beyond.\nBank of America, in a report in August, said: \"While the incident was not related to the quality issues of CrowdStrike's solution, it did flag a material potential weakness in the company's quality assurance procedures.\"\n\nThe Committee on Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee held a hearing on Sept. 24 probing the IT outage.\nAlso, CrowdStrike has told analysts that its liability for Delta and other customers is contractually capped at an amount in the \"single-digit millions.\"\nFollow Reinhardt Krause on Twitter @reinhardtk_tech for updates on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and cloud computing.\nYOU MAY ALSO LIKE:\nLearn The Best Trading Rules At Investor's Corner\nWant To Trade Options? It now expects cloud and software revenue between EUR29.5 billion and EUR29.8 billion, up from a prior projection of between EUR29 billion and EUR29.5 billion; operating profit between EUR7.8 billion and EUR8 billion, up from between EUR7.6 billion and EUR7.9 billion; and free cash flow of EUR4 billion, up from EUR3.5 billion.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":101,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":358531063197760,"gmtCreate":1728572172186,"gmtModify":1728575049562,"author":{"id":"4103164827769800","authorId":"4103164827769800","name":"JacDragon","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4103164827769800","idStr":"4103164827769800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Your lawyers sleeping","listText":"Your lawyers sleeping","text":"Your lawyers sleeping","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/358531063197760","repostId":"2474462767","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2474462767","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1728566256,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2474462767?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2024-10-10 21:17","market":"sg","language":"en","title":"Delta CEO: CrowdStrike Compensation From IT Outage Still On Table","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2474462767","media":"Blockhead","summary":"Delta Airlines on Thursday said it still plans to seek compensation from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike over an IT outage in July.","content":"

\n
Delta Airlines (DAL) on Thursday said it still plans to seek compensation from CrowdStrike Holdings (CRWD) over an IT outage in July.
