Market","content":"

All eyes are currently on the Fed, which is releasing its monetary policy decision Wednesday. Markets are anticipating several interest rate increases this year, but will be hanging on the words of Fed Chair Jerome Powell to see just how many.

The FOMC decision is due at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday, followed by Powell’s press conference at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Anticipation:

Anticipation over a pullback in Federal Reserve stimulus has markets rolling, setting the stage for what could be a pivotal central bank policy-setting meeting this week.

Although the Fed has signaled it will very likely raise rates multiple times this year, the first post-COVID rate increase is not expected this week. Instead, the policy-setting Federal Open Market Committee will likely tease higher rates coming in its March meeting.

“It really is time for us to begin to move away from those emergency pandemic settings to a more normal level,” Fed Chairman Jerome Powell told Congress two weeks ago, adding that “2022 will be the year in which we take steps toward normalization.”

Moving away from those settings would involve raising the federal funds rate, the benchmark for short-term borrowing costs that the Federal Open Market Committee sets every six weeks. That rate has been set at near zero since the depths of the pandemic.

Raising those rates, also referred to as “tightening policy,” could dampen the rapid pace of inflation felt by Americans across the board.

“March is a live meeting for the first rate hike,” said Fed Governor Christopher Waller in December.

Directionally, nearly all members of the policy-setting Federal Open Market Committee have suggested they favor using higher rates to bring inflation down (even the more “dovish” officials who have historically pushed back against tighter policy options). But there is considerable uncertainty about how aggressively they would do so.

For example, betting markets show the largest probability — about 31% — for four interest rate increases (25 basis points each) by the end of this year. But those same markets are pricing in decent odds of the Fed tightening a little bit slower (three rate hikes: 26% chance) as they are for the Fed tightening a little bit faster (five rate hikes: 20% chance).

Either way, the Fed is making it clear that come the March meeting, FOMC decision days that follow are all fair game for more tightening.

Market Views:

“We see a risk that the FOMC will want to take some tightening action at every meeting until that picture changes,” Goldman Sachs analysts wrote on Friday.

With prices rising at a pace not seen in nearly 40 years, the Fed may have opted to raise rates this week if it were not for one reason: its $9 trillion balance sheet.

The Fed is still in the process of bringing its pandemic-era policy of growing its massive balance sheet to a full stop. In December, the FOMC charted a course for ending its purchases of U.S. Treasuries and agency mortgage-backed securities (aimed at messaging to markets its intention to keep borrowing costs low) by mid-March.

Raising interest rates while the Fed is still buying bonds could send mixed messages to markets, which is why Fed officials have made it clear they would not raise interest rates until that process is done.

As the Fed raises interest rates, the FOMC will then likely turn its attention to actively shrinking its balance sheet — by allowing maturing securities to roll off of its books.

“We probably will decide to start reducing the balance sheet sooner rather than later,” Chicago Fed President Charles Evans told reporters on Jan. 13.

Doing so could allow the Fed to quell inflation with fewer rate hikes, since shrinking its asset holdings should have the effect of tilting higher longer-term interest rates (which it does not directly control as well as short-term rates).

The conversation over how to handle any balance sheet runoff will likely pick up steam in this week’s meeting.

Market Snapshot

At 04:46 a.m. ET, Dow e-minis were up 364 points, or 1.06%, S&P 500 e-minis were up 60.75 points, or 1.40%, and Nasdaq 100 e-minis were up 294.50 points, or 2.08%.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Markets are anticipating several interest rate increases this year, but will be hanging on the words of Fed Chair Jerome Powell to see just how many. The FOMC decision is due at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday, followed by Powell’s press conference at 2:30 p.m. ET.Anticipation:Anticipation over a pullback in Federal Reserve stimulus has markets rolling, setting the stage for what could be a pivotal central bank policy-setting meeting this week.Although the Fed has signaled it will very likely raise rates multiple times this year, the first post-COVID rate increase is not expected this week. Instead, the policy-setting Federal Open Market Committee will likely tease higher rates coming in its March meeting.“It really is time for us to begin to move away from those emergency pandemic settings to a more normal level,” Fed Chairman Jerome Powell told Congress two weeks ago, adding that “2022 will be the year in which we take steps toward normalization.”Moving away from those settings would involve raising the federal funds rate, the benchmark for short-term borrowing costs that the Federal Open Market Committee sets every six weeks. That rate has been set at near zero since the depths of the pandemic.Raising those rates, also referred to as “tightening policy,” could dampen the rapid pace of inflation felt by Americans across the board.“March is a live meeting for the first rate hike,” said Fed Governor Christopher Waller in December.Directionally, nearly all members of the policy-setting Federal Open Market Committee have suggested they favor using higher rates to bring inflation down (even the more “dovish” officials who have historically pushed back against tighter policy options). But there is considerable uncertainty about how aggressively they would do so.For example, betting markets show the largest probability — about 31% — for four interest rate increases (25 basis points each) by the end of this year. But those same markets are pricing in decent odds of the Fed tightening a little bit slower (three rate hikes: 26% chance) as they are for the Fed tightening a little bit faster (five rate hikes: 20% chance).Either way, the Fed is making it clear that come the March meeting, FOMC decision days that follow are all fair game for more tightening.Market Views:“We see a risk that the FOMC will want to take some tightening action at every meeting until that picture changes,” Goldman Sachs analysts wrote on Friday. Treasuries and agency mortgage-backed securities (aimed at messaging to markets its intention to keep borrowing costs low) by mid-March.Raising interest rates while the Fed is still buying bonds could send mixed messages to markets, which is why Fed officials have made it clear they would not raise interest rates until that process is done.As the Fed raises interest rates, the FOMC will then likely turn its attention to actively shrinking its balance sheet — by allowing maturing securities to roll off of its books.“We probably will decide to start reducing the balance sheet sooner rather than later,” Chicago Fed President Charles Evans told reporters on Jan. 13.Doing so could allow the Fed to quell inflation with fewer rate hikes, since shrinking its asset holdings should have the effect of tilting higher longer-term interest rates (which it does not directly control as well as short-term rates). The conversation over how to handle any balance sheet runoff will likely pick up steam in this week’s meeting.Market SnapshotAt 04:46 a.m. ET, Dow e-minis were up 364 points, or 1.06%, S&P 500 e-minis were up 60.75 points, or 1.40%, and Nasdaq 100 e-minis were up 294.50 points, or 2.08%.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":328,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9006391408,"gmtCreate":1641603124650,"gmtModify":1676533633372,"author":{"id":"4104560215136860","authorId":"4104560215136860","name":"Tracy3688","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4104560215136860","authorIdStr":"4104560215136860"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like pls","listText":"Like pls","text":"Like pls","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9006391408","repostId":"2201424321","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2201424321","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1641597180,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2201424321?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-08 07:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Wall St posts declines for first week of 2022; Nasdaq has worst week since Feb","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2201424321","media":"Reuters","summary":"* U.S. nonfarm payrolls rise by 199,000 in December* GameStop jumps after report of foray into NFT, ","content":"

* U.S. nonfarm payrolls rise by 199,000 in December

* GameStop jumps after report of foray into NFT, crypto markets

* Indexes: Dow down 0.01%, S&P 500 down 0.4%, Nasdaq down 1%

NEW YORK Jan 7 (Reuters) - Wall Street on Friday wrapped up the first week of the new year with daily and weekly losses as investors worried about looming U.S. interest-rate hikes and unfolding Omicron news.

The Nasdaq posted its biggest weekly percentage fall since February 2021 and led declines for the day in the major indexes. Tesla

CEO Elon Musk has often said manufacturing efficiency would be Tesla's long-term advantage, and the company is making good on that notion. Its theoretical annual production capacity now exceeds 1 million electric vehicles (EVs), and despite headwinds created by chip shortages, Tesla delivered over 936,000 vehicles in 2021, up 87% from the prior year.

More importantly, as production capacity has scaled in both the U.S. and China, Tesla's cost per vehicle has fallen, dropping 55% between 2017 and the first quarter of 2021. That efficiency is due in part to Tesla's 2170 battery cell, a technology that Musk has called "the highest energy density cell in the world, and also the cheapest." To that end, Tesla pays an estimated $187 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for its battery packs -- the most expensive part of an EV. That's 24% lower than the industry average and 10% lower than the next-closest competitor.

Additionally, through November 2021, Tesla held 13.7% market share in terms of EV sales, easily besting the second-place EV manufacturer BYD, which captured 9% market share. Collectively, the company's improving efficiency and its dominant position have translated into impressive financial results on both the top and bottom lines.

Metric

Q3 2019

Q3 2021

CAGR

Revenue (TTM)

$24.4 million

$46.9 billion

39%

Free cash flow (TTM)

$873 million

$2.6 billion

71%

Data source: YCharts. Production of the Tesla Semi (a semi-tractor trailer) is slated to start in 2022, and the trucking industry is ripe for disruption. The company also plans to integrate its new 4680 battery cell into vehicles this year, a technology that should reinforce its current cost advantages. Specifically, management believes the 4680 battery cell will cut the cost per kWh by 56% and boost EV range by 54%.

Further down the road, Tesla aims to launch an autonomous ride-hailing service, a market that ARK Invest analysts value at $1.2 trillion by 2030. While Tesla's full self-driving software is still in the works, Musk has hinted that the company would have a fully autonomous $25,000 EV in late 2023 or 2024. But even if Tesla misses that target, the company still appears to have a big head start in the race to build a self-driving car. That's why I plan to hold this stock forever.

2. Zscaler

Zscaler specializes in cybersecurity. Its cloud platform, the Zero Trust Exchange, is spread across 150 data centers, creating a global network that is fast, safe, and reliable. This distributed architecture, known as a secure access service edge (SASE), allows clients to access corporate resources from any device or location, while also eliminating the IT burden of buying and managing on-site hardware. In short, Zscaler is the new corporate network.

Specifically, Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) safeguards internally managed resources, like software hosted in a private data center; and Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) offers the same protection for externally managed resources, such as applications hosted in the public cloud. More recently, the company expanded its offering with Zscaler Digital Experience (ZDX), an infrastructure performance monitoring solution, and Zscaler Cloud Protection (ZCP), a suite of tools that allows clients to secure cloud workloads.

Collectively, those products fuel digital transformation, keeping corporate networks secure no matter whether the information is stored on-site or in the cloud, nor whether it's accessed by employees in the office or those working remotely. To that end, research firm Gartner believes 60% of enterprises will have plans in place to adopt SASE networks by 2025, up from just 10% in 2020.

More importantly, Gartner has recognized Zscaler as the industry leader for 10 consecutive years, and that advantage has been a powerful growth driver for this cybersecurity company.

Metric

Q1 2020

Q1 2022

CAGR

Revenue (TTM)

$333.1 million

$761.0 million

51%

Free cash flow (TTM)

$33.5 million

$184.9 million

135%

Data source: YCharts. The company currently serves 5,600 clients, comprising 26 million paid seats. But management puts the near-term opportunity at 335 million seats, which brings the company's addressable market to $72 billion. However, Zscaler could extend its services to smaller businesses (fewer than 2,000 employees), which would push its opportunity above 600 million seats.

More broadly, as the best-in-class network security solution, the company should see strong demand in the coming years as more enterprises seek to protect their sensitive data. below its prev","content":"

Summary

Nvidia shocked the market as it posted its Q2 prelim release that came in well below its previous guidance, particularly in gaming. Management has overstated its forecasting models tremendously.

We are disappointed that Nvidia didn't learn sufficiently from the previous downturn in 2018 with its overstated guidance. As a result, management has lost some credibility with us.

Broadcom warned in September 2021 that the current cycle was unsustainable. But, we have not observed such early warning in Nvidia's commentary. Therefore, execution is very poor.

We reiterate our Hold rating, as we believe NVDA could continue underperforming the market.

Thesis

NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) stunned the market as it announced its Q2 preliminary results that came in well below its guidance and the Street's consensus. We highlighted in our previous article that NVIDIA could continue to underperform the market, even though we assessed that it was near its bottom.

While we expected NVDA to stage a short-term rally from its June lows, we didn't envisage NVDA to continue outperforming the market. Notably, NVDA has underperformed the Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) and the Technology ETF (XLK) over the past two months (even before yesterday's sell-off).

We maintain our conviction that the market has materially de-rated NVDA, despite its battering from its November 2021 highs. Management has failed to convince us when chips are down that Nvidia could overcome the market's cyclical nature with its so-called "secular" opportunities.

Coupled with potentially slowing revenue growth and its steep growth premium, we urge investors to find other well-beaten down opportunities in growth and tech stocks to add exposure. Notwithstanding, we expect semis to have bottomed out and do not expect much further downside in NVDA. As a result, we urge investors not to sell in panic.

Therefore, we reiterate our Hold rating on NVDA for now.

Nvidia Lost Credibility With Its Caution

We are shareholders of NVDA, which account for a reasonable weighting in our portfolio. Therefore, we consider the warning on its Q2 prelim release a massive disappointment but not unexpected.

We vividly remember Broadcom (AVGO)CEO Hock Tan cautioned about the current semi downturn in September 2021, demonstrating his prescience and credibility. We also highlighted his comments in our article last year, as he accentuated:

And to answer your question point-blank, I do not see any specific drivers or reasons why the strength we see today is really nothing more than of an exaggerated up-cycle. We always go through a period of digestion. There's no way we can consume on all that forever. And that's what is called a cycle, particularly when we expect supply to come into play out of this - out of the current tightness, but dated back to 2020 to start coming in 2023. And the massive investment and CapEx will start deploying capacity in '23 earliest. Then I see '23 where we have supply. And I think digestion of demand might just start to occur. (Broadcom article)

Nvidia gaming and data center revenue change %(Company filings)

Nvidia warned in its preliminary release for FQ2'23that it expects to post revenue of $6.7B, up by just 3% YoY, down significantly from its previous outlook of $8.1B (up 24.4%).

The main culprit is gaming, as Nvidia highlighted that it expects gaming to post a decline of 33.4%, as seen above, even though data center growth remains robust. However, Nvidia's gaming growth has already trended down consistently from its peak growth in FQ1'22, as gaming started to lap challenging comps, complicated by the post-pandemic reopening.

Furthermore, the destruction in crypto mining added to the headwinds in gaming cards ASPs, creating further challenges for Nvidia as it prepares to launch its RTX 40-series Ada Lovelace graphics.

But, Nvidia has consistently maintained its "strong" belief in its gaming segment, often accentuating its strength and consistency. CEO Jensen Huang highlighted in a June conference that he expects gaming to continue posting robust growth cadence. He articulated:

China is a significant market. Russia is a meaningful market for our gaming business. However, gaming remains solid even in the face of China and Russia. Q1 sell-through grew year-over-year over last year, which was a really fantastic year. And so gaming sell-through remains solid. (BofA 2022 Global Technology Conference)

But, consider what Huang emphasized two months later in Nvidia's prelim release. He said:

Our gaming product sell-through projections declined significantly as the quarter progressed. As we expect the macroeconomic conditions affecting sell-through to continue, we took action with our Gaming partners to adjust channel prices and inventory. - Nvidia

Therefore, we believe Huang & team has lost some credibility with us. Moreover, it shows that the company overstated its forecasting models, resulting in weak execution. Given Nvidia's experience navigating the previous crypto downturn in 2018, we are highly disappointed with how management has managed its guidance heading into its Q2 prelim release.

Nvidia pro viz and automotive revenue change %(Company filings)

Nvidia's pro visualization segment's growth has also slowed down markedly, reflecting the weakness in its gaming segment. Therefore, the euphoria over the Omniverse opportunity has yet to gain significant traction. As a result, we urge investors to pay attention to its data center growth cadence moving forward, as it's critical to underpin NVDA's expensive valuation.

Automotive is the bright spot after tepid growth over the past four quarters. However, QUALCOMM (QCOM) remains confident that it's the leading player with its digital chassis, given the size of its design pipeline and growth momentum. Therefore, we urge Nvidia investors to pay close attention to Qualcomm's performance and not simply buy into Nvidia's commentary on its auto momentum.

Qualcomm highlighted in a May conference that its digital chassis competes with Mobileye (INTC) directly, suggesting two of them are leading the pack, without mentioning Nvidia. Management has overstated its forecasting models tremendously. We are disappointed that Nvidia didn't learn sufficiently from the previous downturn in 2018 with its overstated guidance. As a result, management has lost some credibility with us.Broadcom warned in September 2021 that the current cycle was unsustainable. But, we have not observed such early warning in Nvidia's commentary. Therefore, execution is very poor.We reiterate our Hold rating, as we believe NVDA could continue underperforming the market.ThesisNVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) stunned the market as it announced its Q2 preliminary results that came in well below its guidance and the Street's consensus. We highlighted in our previous article that NVIDIA could continue to underperform the market, even though we assessed that it was near its bottom. While we expected NVDA to stage a short-term rally from its June lows, we didn't envisage NVDA to continue outperforming the market. Notably, NVDA has underperformed the Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) and the Technology ETF (XLK) over the past two months (even before yesterday's sell-off).We maintain our conviction that the market has materially de-rated NVDA, despite its battering from its November 2021 highs. Management has failed to convince us when chips are down that Nvidia could overcome the market's cyclical nature with its so-called \"secular\" opportunities.Coupled with potentially slowing revenue growth and its steep growth premium, we urge investors to find other well-beaten down opportunities in growth and tech stocks to add exposure. Notwithstanding, we expect semis to have bottomed out and do not expect much further downside in NVDA. As a result, we urge investors not to sell in panic. Therefore, we reiterate our Hold rating on NVDA for now.Nvidia Lost Credibility With Its CautionWe are shareholders of NVDA, which account for a reasonable weighting in our portfolio. Therefore, we consider the warning on its Q2 prelim release a massive disappointment but not unexpected. We vividly remember Broadcom (AVGO)CEO Hock Tan cautioned about the current semi downturn in September 2021, demonstrating his prescience and credibility. We also highlighted his comments in our article last year, as he accentuated:And to answer your question point-blank, I do not see any specific drivers or reasons why the strength we see today is really nothing more than of an exaggerated up-cycle. (Broadcom article)Nvidia gaming and data center revenue change %(Company filings)Nvidia warned in its preliminary release for FQ2'23that it expects to post revenue of $6.7B, up by just 3% YoY, down significantly from its previous outlook of $8.1B (up 24.4%).The main culprit is gaming, as Nvidia highlighted that it expects gaming to post a decline of 33.4%, as seen above, even though data center growth remains robust. However, Nvidia's gaming growth has already trended down consistently from its peak growth in FQ1'22, as gaming started to lap challenging comps, complicated by the post-pandemic reopening.Furthermore, the destruction in crypto mining added to the headwinds in gaming cards ASPs, creating further challenges for Nvidia as it prepares to launch its RTX 40-series Ada Lovelace graphics. But, Nvidia has consistently maintained its \"strong\" belief in its gaming segment, often accentuating its strength and consistency. CEO Jensen Huang highlighted in a June conference that he expects gaming to continue posting robust growth cadence. He articulated:China is a significant market. Russia is a meaningful market for our gaming business. However, gaming remains solid even in the face of China and Russia. Q1 sell-through grew year-over-year over last year, which was a really fantastic year. And so gaming sell-through remains solid. (BofA 2022 Global Technology Conference)But, consider what Huang emphasized two months later in Nvidia's prelim release. He said:Our gaming product sell-through projections declined significantly as the quarter progressed. As we expect the macroeconomic conditions affecting sell-through to continue, we took action with our Gaming partners to adjust channel prices and inventory. - NvidiaTherefore, we believe Huang & team has lost some credibility with us. Moreover, it shows that the company overstated its forecasting models, resulting in weak execution. Given Nvidia's experience navigating the previous crypto downturn in 2018, we are highly disappointed with how management has managed its guidance heading into its Q2 prelim release.Nvidia pro viz and automotive revenue change %(Company filings)Nvidia's pro visualization segment's growth has also slowed down markedly, reflecting the weakness in its gaming segment. Therefore, the euphoria over the Omniverse opportunity has yet to gain significant traction. As a result, we urge investors to pay attention to its data center growth cadence moving forward, as it's critical to underpin NVDA's expensive valuation.Automotive is the bright spot after tepid growth over the past four quarters. However, QUALCOMM (QCOM) remains confident that it's the leading player with its digital chassis, given the size of its design pipeline and growth momentum. Therefore, we urge Nvidia investors to pay close attention to Qualcomm's performance and not simply buy into Nvidia's commentary on its auto momentum.Qualcomm highlighted in a May conference that its digital chassis competes with Mobileye (INTC) directly, suggesting two of them are leading the pack, without mentioning Nvidia. Management also accentuated in its recent Q3 earnings that it has garnered more than $19B in its auto design pipeline, and delivered auto revenue of $350M, up 38% YoY. Furthermore, the company emphasized that its open platform helps spur adoption by auto OEMs. Therefore, Nvidia investors need to assess the competition from Qualcomm carefully. Is NVDA Stock A Buy, Sell, Or Hold?We are confident that NVDA has likely staged its medium-term bottom in June, in line with its semi peers. But, growth and tech investors are spoilt for choice, given the tech bear market. Being at a bottom doesn't necessarily mean that investors should jump on the opportunity to add NVDA, as we believe it could still underperform the market. Therefore, we reiterate our Hold rating on NVDA and urge investors to look elsewhere.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":215,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9097672367,"gmtCreate":1645456878170,"gmtModify":1676534029518,"author":{"id":"4104560215136860","authorId":"4104560215136860","name":"Tracy3688","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4104560215136860","authorIdStr":"4104560215136860"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Agree","listText":"Agree","text":"Agree","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9097672367","repostId":"2213983982","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2213983982","pubTimestamp":1645448607,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2213983982?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-21 21:03","market":"us","language":"en","title":"A Closer Look at the Uncertain Future of Meta","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2213983982","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Investors should closely assess Meta before buying on the company's recent dip.","content":"

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:FB) released fourth quarter earnings in early February that left many investors contemplating the company's future. As a result, Meta lost over $230 billion in market value in a day, setting a record for the largest single-day sell-off in stock market history. The drop came after Meta reported an earnings per share of $3.67, missing analyst estimates for only the second time in twelve quarters.

Meta also experienced its first-ever decline in daily active users on its Facebook platform. The company's advertising segment -- which represents the bulk of Meta's top-line -- struggled in the fourth quarter due to Apple's iOS 14.5 privacy update, which continues to serve as a challenge to Meta's ad targeting. However, I think that the most important element to consider from Meta's fourth quarter earnings announcement is its ongoing business transformation that centers around its Reels segment and the metaverse.

Understanding Meta's transitional phase

As a longtime social media juggernaut, Meta has decided to take its business in several new directions. In the near-term, the company is focused on enhancing its Reels segment, which involves short-form videos similar to what you see on TikTok. Mark Zuckerberg, the company's CEO, stated in the recent earnings announcement that Meta plans to continue prioritizing Reels ahead of core business segments like news feed and stories.

Investors should closely monitor Meta's progress in its Reels segment because currently, Reels monetizes at a slower rate than news feed and stories. According to management, this is because Reels currently show fewer ads than news feed and stories, meaning less revenue is being generated from the segment as of today. Management cited the company's ability to make successful transitions in the past, namely Meta's previous shifts from web to mobile and feed to stories. But as long as Reels isn't monetizing as fast as other core business segments, Meta is at risk of underperforming.

Meta's fourth-quarter earnings announcement also focused on its Reality Labs segment, which involves all metaverse-related business activities. The metaverse refers to a network of 3D virtual worlds where people can interact and connect in a virtual reality. Reality Labs generated a net loss of $10.2 billion in fiscal year 2021. Meta plans to continue its aggressive spending in order to grow the segment moving forward. In the fourth quarter, Meta stated that its investments in Reality Labs were the primary cause of the increase in cost of revenue and research and development, which grew 22% and 35% year over year, respectively.

Meta is expected to experience a similar loss in its Reality Labs segment in 2022, so it's clear that the company has a lot at stake in regards to its long-term vision of the metaverse. The increase in metaverse-related costs will continue to put pressure on Meta's margins and bottom-line, which could lead to more disappointing quarters in the foreseeable future. It's not that Meta doesn't have the cash to fund its metaverse transition. But, the amp in operating expenses intertwined with expected net losses from the Reality Labs segment jeopardizes Meta's near-term financial success without any guarantee that the investments will pay off in the long run. Reels and Reality Labs -- two of Meta's top priorities moving forward -- will continue to present challenges to the company's business in the quarters ahead.

Should investors buy Meta?

Long-term Meta investors must understand that they are no longer investing in a simple social media company, but are placing a bet on the company's Reels business and its vision of the metaverse. I think TikTok has a strong hold of the short-form video space, which makes it difficult to envision Reels succeeding in the long run. The company's tight focus on its Reels segment is quite risky given it's taking attention away from Meta's higher monetizing services.

Above all else, I can't offer my full support of the company's metaverse transition until I see that material progress is being made. Right now, it appears that Meta is aggressively investing in a money-losing business segment that has no clearly defined future. It wouldn't be unwise to hold off on investing in Meta for now, as its transition to Reels and the metaverse adds a significant layer of risk and long-term uncertainty to the company's investment profile.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
A Closer Look at the Uncertain Future of Meta
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nA Closer Look at the Uncertain Future of Meta\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-21 21:03 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:FB) released fourth quarter earnings in early February that left many investors contemplating the company's future. For example, if you invested $10,000 in Microsoft 10 years ago, you would now have over $97,000 -- almost a 10x return on your money. If you can find high-quality companies and hold them relentlessly -- even through hard times and recessions -- you have the opportunity to build immense wealth for yourself.

You could employ this strategy today, kick-starting a potentially fruitful journey. Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA), Doximity (NYSE:DOCS), and fuboTV (NYSE:FUBO) have extremely large addressable markets and rock-solid competitive advantages over their competitors, and I think these companies could flourish for the next 13 years.

Nvidia

As the market leader in high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs), Nvidia's chips are used in nearly everything, including gaming, full-self-driving vehicles, data centers, and even in building out the metaverse. This wide optionality and its leadership in the space have allowed the company to generate third-quarter revenue of $7.1 billion, net income of $2.5 billion, and free cash flow of $1.3 billion.

Chips are in extremely high demand right now, and this demand will only increase over the next decade as more artificial intelligence, data, and other new technologies enter the world. The majority of these systems need hundreds of chips to operate, and Nvidia is leading the pack in the production of these chips, quickly gaining market share. In the fiscal year 2019 (the calendar year 2018), the company brought in $11.7 billion in revenue, but this fiscal year, the company is expecting to bring in $26.7 billion -- representing 128% growth over that period.

This growth, however, comes at a high price. Nvidia shares trade at 69 times earnings and 78 times free cash flow, which are extremely high multiples. Nvidia's market cap is currently over $600 billion, so 10Xing over the next 13 years is not an easy feat. However, considering how dominant the company has been in the past and how Nvidia's chips will likely play a major role in the future, the company has the potential to produce incredible returns over the next decade.

The data center market is expected to be worth $65 billion by 2026 and $54 billion for the gaming GPU market by 2025. Because Nvidia has a dominant market share in both of those industries, I wouldn't be surprised if Nvidia can continue to dominate these industries over the coming years as it becomes a staple of technology.

Doximity

Doximity has become the primary social media and work platform for healthcare professionals, offering them the ability to provide telehealth services, speak with patients as well as other doctors, and learn about the newest drugs and practices in their field. This has made Doximity the all-in-one app healthcare professionals need for their professional lives. As a result, over 80% of physicians and 90% of medical students are on Doximity.

Like Nvidia, Doximity trades at a high multiple of 31 times sales -- even after the company fell 58% off its all-time high. However, this extremely high multiple might be justified. Doximity has a dominant market share in the space, yet the company is growing rapidly and is profitable. In its most recent quarter, the company grew its revenue 76% year over year to $79 million, and 45% of that turned into net income for the quarter.

Doximity has little room for future growth in terms of adding users to its platform, but the expansion in the number of advertisers on the platform -- where Doximity earns its revenue from -- has lots of potential going forward. Drug manufacturers and healthcare companies looking to hire medical professionals advertise on Doximity, and the company estimates that it has a $7.3 billion market opportunity in just growing the number of advertisers on the platform. With a total market worth $18.5 billion, there is plenty of room for the company to flourish over the next decade considering it is expecting just $327 million in full-year revenue.

fuboTV

One of the main reasons consumers still have their cable television is because of the inability to stream live sports or news on popular services like Netflix, but fubo is trying to change that. It is becoming a pure-play service that focuses specifically on streaming live sports of all kinds, and it is seeing rapid adoption because of it. In the third quarter of 2021, the company reported 945,000 subscribers -- representing growth of 108% year over year.

This is small, especially compared to other streaming stocks like Netflix, which has almost 222 million subscribers across the world. Despite this large opportunity, the company is not valued for future success. Fubo trades at just 2.4 times sales -- a rock-bottom multiple, especially for a company growing at triple-digit rates. This is low compared to streaming services like Netflix, which trades at 5.6 times sales despite slower growth.

In a Pew Research poll, 56% of Americans said they have cable television, so the trend of cutting the cord is still in full swing. If fubo can become the primary streaming service that these Americans switch to for their live TV, then fubo has an incredible opportunity to expand their customer count. With less than 1 million users today, fubo is trying to attract roughly 100 million consumers, making its market opportunity immense to say the very least. This huge growth potential could allow fubo to more than 10X if it can successfully penetrate this market, and as one of the only providers focusing on live TV, fubo looks poised to do so, which is why I think it can 10X from here by 2035.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
These 3 Stocks Could 10x Your Money by 2035
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nThese 3 Stocks Could 10x Your Money by 2035\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-06 11:30 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
For investors looking to create life-changing wealth, often the best way to do so is through a simple buy-and-hold strategy. As a result, over 80% of physicians and 90% of medical students are on Doximity.Like Nvidia, Doximity trades at a high multiple of 31 times sales -- even after the company fell 58% off its all-time high. However, this extremely high multiple might be justified. Doximity has a dominant market share in the space, yet the company is growing rapidly and is profitable. In its most recent quarter, the company grew its revenue 76% year over year to $79 million, and 45% of that turned into net income for the quarter.Doximity has little room for future growth in terms of adding users to its platform, but the expansion in the number of advertisers on the platform -- where Doximity earns its revenue from -- has lots of potential going forward. Drug manufacturers and healthcare companies looking to hire medical professionals advertise on Doximity, and the company estimates that it has a $7.3 billion market opportunity in just growing the number of advertisers on the platform. With a total market worth $18.5 billion, there is plenty of room for the company to flourish over the next decade considering it is expecting just $327 million in full-year revenue.fuboTVOne of the main reasons consumers still have their cable television is because of the inability to stream live sports or news on popular services like Netflix, but fubo is trying to change that. This huge growth potential could allow fubo to more than 10X if it can successfully penetrate this market, and as one of the only providers focusing on live TV, fubo looks poised to do so, which is why I think it can 10X from here by 2035.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":547,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9007357174,"gmtCreate":1642780404915,"gmtModify":1676533746011,"author":{"id":"4104560215136860","authorId":"4104560215136860","name":"Tracy3688","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4104560215136860","authorIdStr":"4104560215136860"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9007357174","repostId":"2205804220","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2205804220","pubTimestamp":1642780053,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2205804220?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-21 23:47","market":"us","language":"en","title":"2 Reasons Activision Shareholders Shouldn't Be Quick to Sell Ahead of a Microsoft Deal","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2205804220","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Locking in a quick gain is tempting, but there are good reasons to hold your Activision Blizzard shares until the deal is finalized.","content":"

Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) proposal to buy top game publisher Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI) is far from a done deal. Here is what happened, and what investors could expect to see next.

What a recovery it has been. From the 2022 lows of around $150 reached on March 14, Apple stock skyrocketed by over 6% in only two days to close the March 16 session priced at almost $160 a piece.

Why did shares of the Cupertino company spike so suddenly? And could this be a sign that the $3 trillion market cap could be reached again soon?

The Apple Maven explores these two topics below.

What sent AAPL soaring

The year has been tough for AAPL and the market at large. Apple stock nearly entered bear market earlier this week, after having dipped 17%-plus from the all-time high of January.

But there have been signs lately that investors might be ready to start buying this dip.

It is hard to tell exactly why this vicious (but still very incipient) recovery began to take shape. On March 15, Apple’s nearly $5-per-share spike looked a lot like a volatility-driven rebound from the previous few days’ sharp declines.

But on Wednesday, another similar jump could be better explained by one key event: the Federal Reserve’sfirst move to raise short-term interest rates in years. The 25-basis point increase has been widely anticipated, and is nearly guaranteed to be only the first of many.

While this was clearly the catalyst that sent AAPL to nearly $160, at the same time it is tough to explain why the monetary policy announcement created $75 billion in market cap for Apple investors in a day. Shouldn’t higher interest rates be a negative for tech and growth stocks?

I believe that economic and business fundamentals have nothing to do with this. Instead, the Tuesday and Wednesday price movements seem to be a classic case of “relief rally”.

Investors had been dreading monetary policy tightening for months. What sent AAPL soaringThe year has been tough for AAPL and the market at large. Apple stock nearly entered bear market earlier this week, after having dipped 17%-plus from the all-time high of January. But there have been signs lately that investors might be ready to start buying this dip.It is hard to tell exactly why this vicious (but still very incipient) recovery began to take shape. Shouldn’t higher interest rates be a negative for tech and growth stocks?I believe that economic and business fundamentals have nothing to do with this. Instead, the Tuesday and Wednesday price movements seem to be a classic case of “relief rally”.Investors had been dreading monetary policy tightening for months. Now that it is finally here, it may be time for everyone to just move on.Is $3 trillion next?I believe it is still way too early to project Apple $3 trillion once again — that is, a 12.5% gain that leads the share price to roughly $180. For now, AAPL’s recent $10 recovery could be a dead cat bounce in disguise, as mini-rallies are a feature of soft market conditions. From the point of view of a long-term investor, however, I would still be interested in accumulating AAPL shares at less than $160.As I explained recently, Apple stock returns have historically been better after shares sink at least 10% to 15% from the peak.I have little doubt that, eventually (timing here is a big question mark), AAPL will reclaim $180 per share and $3 trillion in market cap. This matched consensus estimates, based on Bloomberg data, and accelerated from November's already elevated 6.8% increase.
