Year-over-year revenue has only slumped in two quarters during the past 10 years, and one of those was linked to COVID-19&#39;s arrival in the United States back in 2020.</p><p>The headwind was overcome by the next quarter.</p><p>You know Alphabet is the parent of search engine behemoth Google. You may or may not know that it&#39;s also the owner of the online video platform YouTube, and you likely don&#39;t realize it&#39;s also the name behind the mobile operating system Android. Android and Google are (by far) the dominant names in their respective arenas, according to data from GlobalStats. While YouTube is in a category mostly by itself, it&#39;s still a clear powerhouse when it comes to keeping people entertained. Market research outfit eMarketer estimates more than 130 million consumers in the United States alone will watch YouTube videos on a true television set this year, pitting it against more traditional streaming names like Netflix as well as traditional cable TV services.</p><p>The point is, wherever Alphabet goes, it tends to dominate.</p><p>2. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NOW\">ServiceNow</a></p><p>You may not be familiar with a company called ServiceNow (SNOW 5.88%), but there&#39;s a good chance you&#39;re a customer of a company that relies on the software it provides. As of its most recent tally, about 7,400 organizations are ServiceNow clients, collectively contributing more than $1.7 billion worth of revenue during the first quarter of this year alone. That&#39;s 29% better than ServiceNow&#39;s top line from the same quarter a year earlier, underscoring the growth potential of the no-code workflow software market.</p><p>In the simplest terms, workflow software provides a way for workers to build their own computer programs even if they don&#39;t actually have any coding experience or training. By empowering employees with these tools, efficiency goes up, and costs go down. ServiceNow offers custom-built workflow solutions for clients ranging from human resources departments to risk-management teams to a company&#39;s customers themselves.</p><p>The industry is still in its infancy too. Fortune Business Insights estimates the workflow software market is on pace to grow by an average of more than 30% per year between 2020 and 2028, boding well for ServiceNow and its shareholders.</p><p>3. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MRK\">Merck</a></p><p>Merck was never one of the top contenders in the race to create a COVID-19 vaccine, nor in the effort to find an effective treatment for those who had been infected by the virus. That&#39;s the biggest reason this stock didn&#39;t perform as well as many other drugmakers&#39; stocks did in 2020 and 2021.</p><p>In retrospect, though, perhaps Merck&#39;s unwillingness to pull out all the stops to address COVID-19 was a brilliant decision. Key coronavirus players like Moderna and Pfizer are now watching their stocks struggle because there&#39;s no proverbial second act to ending a pandemic. Or, perhaps just as problematic, the COVID-19 virus is evolving faster than the drugs and vaccines specifically designed for it are. The newest sub-variant of the omicron strain of the virus is surprisingly resistant to most of the approved vaccines aimed at the disease.</p><p>Rather than being bogged down by a short-lived, highly competitive coronavirus opportunity, Merck has continued to develop its flagship drug, cancer-fighting Keytruda. While most investors were eyeing the pandemic and what&#39;s happening in Washington, D.C., for the past couple of years, Keytruda was approved for several more uses that helped drive its sales higher by more than 50% during the first quarter of the year.</p><p>Sometimes staying focused is the smart-money move.</p><p>4. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CMCSA\">Comcast</a></p><p>It&#39;s easy to dismiss Comcast as an investment prospect. It&#39;s parent to cable television provider Xfinity, after all, and the cable television business is slowly dying thanks to the continued cord-cutting movement.</p><p>What the assumption overlooks, however, is that cable television is only a small part of what Comcast does, and everything else Comcast does is capable of offsetting cable&#39;s headwind.</p><p>Some simple numbers flesh out the idea. For the company&#39;s first quarter of the year, less than 18% of its top line came from cable TV. Nearly a fifth of its revenue was produced by broadband services that are causing so many cable customers to cancel their cable subscriptions. Around a third of its top line came from its NBCUniversal arm, which monetizes TV and movie theaters in a way that sidesteps the headwind upending the cable television business itself. The NBCUniversal unit even operates its own streaming platform in Peacock, and also owns a few theme parks. The UK&#39;s Sky TV brand rounds out Comcast&#39;s revenue mix.</p><p>It&#39;s never going to be a high-growth outfit. The stock&#39;s 36% sell-off since September, however, doesn&#39;t make sense given how many reliable profit centers this company is actually working. Newcomers will be stepping in while the well-supported dividend is a healthy 2.8% of the stock&#39;s price.</p><p>5. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/BRK.A\">Berkshire Hathaway</a></p><p>Finally, add Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) (BRK.B) to your list of stocks to buy that you really can&#39;t go wrong with.</p><p>In some ways, it&#39;s a chicken&#39;s way out of actually selecting stocks, punting those stock-picking duties to Warren Buffett and his team. It&#39;s also a move that sometimes leaves Berkshire shareholders second-guessing their decisions. Buffett and Berkshire were both heavily criticized in 2020 and 2021 when his value-oriented fund consistently lagged the performance of the S&amp;P 500; not everyone was a fan of the fact that Berkshire would rather sit on idle cash that at least takes a swing on new positions. Some of those naysayers even suggested that Buffett&#39;s cautious, patient approach -- and the idea of value investing itself -- was dead and that growth was the only metric worth considering going forward.</p><p>Simply put, though, the critics are wrong. Give Berkshire and Buffett&#39;s acolytes enough time, and you&#39;ll be glad you did. It takes tough times to remind the market that value stocks have their place in your portfolio. We may be on the cusp of such tough times.</p><p>Those criticisms also overlook the fact that while Berkshire owns a lot of familiar stocks like Apple and Occidental Petroleum, the company also owns a huge number of privately held, cash-generating corporations like Fruit of the Loom, Lubrizol, Clayton Homes, and Duracell, just to name a few. In this latest update for AAPL, I analyze whether a buying opportunity for Apple has emerged as a result of the pullback in the company&#39;s share price year-to-date in 2022.</p><p>This is a good time to buy Apple&#39;s stock, as the dip in its share price year-to-date has made its valuations more attractive with its forward P/E multiple reverting close to its five-year historical mean. There is room for AAPL&#39;s valuation multiples to expand in tandem with higher profit margins resulting from a superior sales mix tilted towards services.</p><p>AAPL Stock Basics</p><p>Prior to touching on AAPL&#39;s stock price correction, valuations, and outlook, it is relevant to revisit the basics for Apple. In other words, I will be discussing the company&#39;s business model and the investment thesis for the stock in the current section of this article.</p><p>Apple&#39;s business model is to continue expanding the installed base for its flagship hardware device, the iPhone, and cross-sell other hardware products and services to its iPhone users.</p><p>At the company&#39;s earnings call for the first quarter of fiscal 2022 (YE September 30) on January 27, 2022, Apple disclosed that its &#34;installed base of active devices&#34; has set &#34;a new all-time record of 1.8 billion devices.&#34; AAPL updated investors at its Q2 FY 2022 results briefing on April 28, 2022, that the company&#39;s &#34;installed base (of active devices) has continued to grow&#34;, while noting that &#34;the iPhone active installed base reached &#34;a new all-time high.&#34; According to the Business of Apps website&#39;s compilation of data on AAPL, the number of active iPhones (excluding other hardware devices such as iPads) on a worldwide basis had already crossed the 1.2 billion mark by the end of last year.</p><p>The investment thesis for AAPL is closely linked to its business model. Revenue for Apple&#39;s services like the App Store is expected to grow over time in tandem with the increase in the installed base for AAPL&#39;s iPhones and other hardware devices. This should translate into higher profit margins and faster earnings growth for Apple in the medium to long term, as AAPL benefits from a more favorable revenue mix with a rising proportion of sales contribution from higher-margin services.</p><p>The gross profit margin for Apple&#39;s services segment was 72.6% in Q2 FY 2022, which was twice that of the products segment&#39;s gross margin of 36.4% in the same quarter as highlighted at its most recent quarterly investor call. Also, AAPL only derived approximately 20% of its total Q2 FY 2022 revenue from services as per its quarterly earnings press release, so there is room for the company to further optimize its sales mix with a bias towards growing revenue contribution from services at a faster pace.</p><p>In the next section, I focus on Apple&#39;s stock price decline thus far this year.</p><p><b>Why Did Apple Stock Drop?</b></p><p>Apple&#39;s stock price dropped by -25.6% in 2022 thus far, and it underperformed the S&amp;P 500 which was down by -21.0% during the same period.</p><p><b>AAPL&#39;s 2022 Year-to-date Share Price Chart</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/39057828144a7f0bc9c470f048173d9e\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"221\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Seeking Alpha</span></p><p>AAPL&#39;s share price weakness is partly attributed to the correction in the broader stock market and technology stocks as a result of investors&#39; worries over higher-than-expected inflation and a potential recession. But there are also company-specific factors that have driven a decline in Apple&#39;s stock price.</p><p>In the past three months, the Q3 FY 2022 consensus earnings per share estimate for Apple has been reduced by -7.5%. Specifically, 25 of the 44 Wall Street analysts covering AAPL&#39;s shares lowered their third-quarter EPS forecasts for the company in the last three months. This is consistent with Apple&#39;s forward-looking management guidance.</p><p>At its Q2 FY 2022 earnings briefing, AAPL had guided for a $4-$8 billion hit to its third-quarter revenue resulting from &#34;COVID-related disruptions (more specifically lockdowns in China) and industry-wide silicon shortages.&#34; The company also highlighted that it expects unfavorable exchange rate fluctuations and the suspension of sales in Russia to impact the YoY growth for its Q3 FY 2022 top line by -3.0 percentage points and -1.5 percentage points, respectively.</p><p>In the next section I touch on whether Apple&#39;s valuations have become more attractive after the year-to-date pull-back in its share price.</p><p><b>Is Apple Stock A Good Value Now?</b></p><p>Following the -25% decline in its stock price thus far this year, Apple&#39;s consensus forward next twelve months&#39; normalized P/E multiple has compressed from its 2022 year-to-date peak of 31.9 times as of January 3, 2022, to 22.0 times as of June 22, as per<i>S&amp;P Capital IQ</i>.</p><p>AAPL is currently trading at 22.0 times forward P/E, which is roughly on par with its five-year mean forward P/E multiple of 21.4 times. When the short-term headwinds (as discussed in the preceding section) eventually ease and the company manages to achieve a more optimal sales mix biased towards higher-margin services in the future, Apple should be able to trade at the high end of its five-year forward P/E valuation range (AAPL&#39;s peak forward P/E multiple in the last five years was 36.6 times) again.</p><p>In conclusion, I think Apple&#39;s stock is good value now, considering its historical valuations and future profitability outlook.</p><p><b>Is Apple Expected To Rise Again?</b></p><p>I am of the opinion that Apple&#39;s stock price is expected to rise again in the short term.</p><p>According to JPMorgan&#39;s (JPM) &#34;Global Product Availability Lead Time Tracker&#34; research report (not publicly available) published on June 19, 2022, the worldwide &#34;lead times in general moderated for Mac and iPads&#34; for the week ended June 17, 2022, which the JPM analysts highlight is &#34;in line with the reopening in China.&#34; Also, JPM&#39;s recent research work found that the current lead times for AAPL&#39;s other products such as the iPhone stayed low at below a week.</p><p>This is consistent with the findings from another bank&#39;s research team. Morgan Stanley (MS) published its North American IT hardware &#34;Monthly Data Tracker&#34; report (not publicly available) on June 22, 2022, which noted that the lead time for the iPad decreased from 15 days as of June 9, 2022, to 14 days as of June 16, 2022. Similarly, the MS analysts&#39; research work suggests that the lead time for the MacBook Pro M1 declined from 62 days to 56 days over the same period.</p><p>In my view, an easing of supply chain constraints as evidenced by the improvement in lead times mentioned above should be a positive re-rating catalyst for Apple in the short term.</p><p><b>What Is The Long-Term Prediction For Apple Stock?</b></p><p>The key aspect of any long-term financial predictions for Apple is the potential improvement in the company&#39;s profitability. As I discussed earlier in this article, a growing percentage of sales derived from higher-margin services should result in an expansion of Apple&#39;s profit margins in the long run. Based on financial projections sourced from<i>S&amp;P Capital IQ</i>, AAPL&#39;s gross profit margin is forecasted to increase from 41.8% in fiscal 2021 to 43.5% by FY 2026.</p><p>The market&#39;s expectations of increased services revenue contribution and improved profitability are reasonable. Apple has been putting in a huge amount of effort to make it easier for the company to cross-sell additional hardware devices and services to its iPhone users as seen with its recent press release.</p><p>On June 6, 2022, Apple revealed the features of its new operating system for the iPhone (iOS16), and also disclosed the introduction of two new laptops.</p><p>In this announcement, AAPL explained that certain &#34;new features for Apple&#39;s Macs and iPads are designed to make it easier to sync with the iPhone.&#34; As an example, the iPhone can be utilized as &#34;a webcam&#34; for &#34;video calls&#34; on Macs going forward, as highlighted in an article published by The Verge on the same day of Apple&#39;s announcement.</p><p>Separately, Apple&#39;s new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro devices will come with Apple&#39;s M2 chip. The company noted in the June 6, 2022, announcement that this is aligned with its goal of &#34;helping people toggle from one Apple device to another.&#34;</p><p>In summary, AAPL is moving in the right direction with new initiatives to enhance integration across the company&#39;s various hardware products, which will increase user switching costs and boost cross-selling efforts (for other hardware devices and services). (NASDAQ:TSLA) is all about anticipating nonlinear effects. Investors not only need to have the ability to see around the corner but also need to do so before most people. However, to say this is hard is simply a truism. And a &#34;trick&#34; I find effective in analyzing nonlinear situations is to draw analogies from another nonlinear situation. I, of course, did not invent this trick. Others have discussed it in length, and books have been written about it. A recent one that I found very readable is David Epstein&#39;s bestseller entitled<i>&#34;Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World&#34;</i>. Highly recommended.</p><p>Now, the art of drawing analogies lies in the <i>range</i>(hence the title of Epstein&#39;s book). Drawing analogies from similar situations does not help too much. We need to draw analogies from situations with <i>range</i>. Citing an example from his book, if you try to analyze the new competing landscape amid M&amp;As in a dynamic market, analyzing &#34;similar&#34; M&amp;As won&#39;t be too helpful. Most likely, there are no &#34;similar&#34; prior examples. It is more helpful to draw analogies from a completely different domain, for example, the power struggle of countries during a dynamic time (say Europe during the 1500s and 1600s).</p><p>Now, back to TSLA. The thesis is to analyze the current situation between its battery production and the QWERTY keyboards. Despite (or thanks to) the wide range of these two examples, you will see the central argument is that due to the lack of standardization, the battery issue potentially creates a winner-take-all situation in EV space, just like the QWERTY keyboard did in the keyboard space. Note that the thesis is not to argue if such potential is good or bad. Whether the dominance of the QWERTY keyboard is good or bad depends on your perspective and historical context. The thesis is just that there is such a potential and TSLA is one of the main contenders, thus creating an investment opportunity with enormous upside.</p><p><b>QWERTY Keyboard and EV Battery</b></p><p>A bit of background on the QWERTY keyboard first - in the off chance that some readers never paid attention to its history. The QWERTY design was designed for typewriters and became popular in 1878. It has remained in ubiquitous use since then. Before it became popular, there was a multitude of contemporary alternatives. But once it did, it dominated and became the <i>only</i> one left.</p><p>Now, back again to TSLA and batteries. A few key similarities here. First, the battery issue now, just like the keyboard design in the 1870s, lacks standardization and there is a multitude of alternative designs. TSLA itself has used and is still using multiple cell designs (18650, 2170, and more recently 4680), and it is unlikely that the EV industry will reach a standardization agreement anytime soon.</p><p>Second, the battery issue is crucial to the EV industry, just like the keyboard design is to the typewriter industry. We will elaborate more on the importance later.</p><p>Third, the winner does not have to be the &#34;best&#34; design, just like in the typewriter case. Many readers try to analyze the technical superiority of battery design A vs B. But the matter of fact is that in a highly nonlinear and dynamic market, many factors besides technical superiority contribute and convolute. Furthermore, once dominance is established, it sticks. The QWERTY keyboard in a sense is the least efficient design for modern computers, but this does not stop it from being <i>the</i> standard keyboard today when jamming the keys is a concern at all.</p><p><b>TSLA&#39;s Battery Plan</b></p><p>Let&#39;s discuss the crucial role of the battery issue in the EV industry. Simply put, it is <i>the</i> bottleneck issue. In my view, our EV problem equals a battery problem. TSLA (and other EV players too) recognized the issue a long time ago. For example, back in its 2020 Battery Day presentation, TSLA announced a battery plan to improve design, build its own cells, and better integrate the cells into the vehicle.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ff981e3a652331155c7f5886da20e486\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"312\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>TSLA Investor Presentation</p><p>Fast-forward to 2022, TSLA celebrated its one-millionth 4680 cell production earlier in the year, as you can see from the following Twitter message sent out by Elon Musk. It&#39;s a baby step, admittedly. Each Model Y needs about 1k of these cells. So 1 million 4680 cells are only enough for about 1,000 Model Ys. But it is a good start. You may or may not know that it&#39;s also the owner of the online video platform YouTube, and you likely don&#39;t realize it&#39;s also the name behind the mobile operating system Android. Android and Google are (by far) the dominant names in their respective arenas, according to data from GlobalStats. While YouTube is in a category mostly by itself, it&#39;s still a clear powerhouse when it comes to keeping people entertained. Market research outfit eMarketer estimates more than 130 million consumers in the United States alone will watch YouTube videos on a true television set this year, pitting it against more traditional streaming names like Netflix as well as traditional cable TV services.</p><p>The point is, wherever Alphabet goes, it tends to dominate.</p><p>2. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NOW\">ServiceNow</a></p><p>You may not be familiar with a company called ServiceNow (SNOW 5.88%), but there&#39;s a good chance you&#39;re a customer of a company that relies on the software it provides. As of its most recent tally, about 7,400 organizations are ServiceNow clients, collectively contributing more than $1.7 billion worth of revenue during the first quarter of this year alone. That&#39;s 29% better than ServiceNow&#39;s top line from the same quarter a year earlier, underscoring the growth potential of the no-code workflow software market.</p><p>In the simplest terms, workflow software provides a way for workers to build their own computer programs even if they don&#39;t actually have any coding experience or training. By empowering employees with these tools, efficiency goes up, and costs go down. ServiceNow offers custom-built workflow solutions for clients ranging from human resources departments to risk-management teams to a company&#39;s customers themselves.</p><p>The industry is still in its infancy too. Fortune Business Insights estimates the workflow software market is on pace to grow by an average of more than 30% per year between 2020 and 2028, boding well for ServiceNow and its shareholders.</p><p>3. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MRK\">Merck</a></p><p>Merck was never one of the top contenders in the race to create a COVID-19 vaccine, nor in the effort to find an effective treatment for those who had been infected by the virus. That&#39;s the biggest reason this stock didn&#39;t perform as well as many other drugmakers&#39; stocks did in 2020 and 2021.</p><p>In retrospect, though, perhaps Merck&#39;s unwillingness to pull out all the stops to address COVID-19 was a brilliant decision. Key coronavirus players like Moderna and Pfizer are now watching their stocks struggle because there&#39;s no proverbial second act to ending a pandemic. Or, perhaps just as problematic, the COVID-19 virus is evolving faster than the drugs and vaccines specifically designed for it are. The newest sub-variant of the omicron strain of the virus is surprisingly resistant to most of the approved vaccines aimed at the disease.</p><p>Rather than being bogged down by a short-lived, highly competitive coronavirus opportunity, Merck has continued to develop its flagship drug, cancer-fighting Keytruda. While most investors were eyeing the pandemic and what&#39;s happening in Washington, D.C., for the past couple of years, Keytruda was approved for several more uses that helped drive its sales higher by more than 50% during the first quarter of the year.</p><p>Sometimes staying focused is the smart-money move.</p><p>4. <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CMCSA\">Comcast</a></p><p>It&#39;s easy to dismiss Comcast as an investment prospect. It&#39;s parent to cable television provider Xfinity, after all, and the cable television business is slowly dying thanks to the continued cord-cutting movement.</p><p>What the assumption overlooks, however, is that cable television is only a small part of what Comcast does, and everything else Comcast does is capable of offsetting cable&#39;s headwind.</p><p>Some simple numbers flesh out the idea. By empowering employees with these tools, efficiency goes up, and costs go down. I did a comparison of Apple and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) in my previous April 6, 2022, article, and determined that AAPL was the better buy. In this latest update for AAPL, I analyze whether a buying opportunity for Apple has emerged as a result of the pullback in the company&#39;s share price year-to-date in 2022.</p><p>This is a good time to buy Apple&#39;s stock, as the dip in its share price year-to-date has made its valuations more attractive with its forward P/E multiple reverting close to its five-year historical mean. There is room for AAPL&#39;s valuation multiples to expand in tandem with higher profit margins resulting from a superior sales mix tilted towards services.</p><p>AAPL Stock Basics</p><p>Prior to touching on AAPL&#39;s stock price correction, valuations, and outlook, it is relevant to revisit the basics for Apple. In other words, I will be discussing the company&#39;s business model and the investment thesis for the stock in the current section of this article.</p><p>Apple&#39;s business model is to continue expanding the installed base for its flagship hardware device, the iPhone, and cross-sell other hardware products and services to its iPhone users.</p><p>At the company&#39;s earnings call for the first quarter of fiscal 2022 (YE September 30) on January 27, 2022, Apple disclosed that its &#34;installed base of active devices&#34; has set &#34;a new all-time record of 1.8 billion devices.&#34; AAPL updated investors at its Q2 FY 2022 results briefing on April 28, 2022, that the company&#39;s &#34;installed base (of active devices) has continued to grow&#34;, while noting that &#34;the iPhone active installed base reached &#34;a new all-time high.&#34; According to the Business of Apps website&#39;s compilation of data on AAPL, the number of active iPhones (excluding other hardware devices such as iPads) on a worldwide basis had already crossed the 1.2 billion mark by the end of last year.</p><p>The investment thesis for AAPL is closely linked to its business model. Revenue for Apple&#39;s services like the App Store is expected to grow over time in tandem with the increase in the installed base for AAPL&#39;s iPhones and other hardware devices. This should translate into higher profit margins and faster earnings growth for Apple in the medium to long term, as AAPL benefits from a more favorable revenue mix with a rising proportion of sales contribution from higher-margin services.</p><p>The gross profit margin for Apple&#39;s services segment was 72.6% in Q2 FY 2022, which was twice that of the products segment&#39;s gross margin of 36.4% in the same quarter as highlighted at its most recent quarterly investor call. Also, AAPL only derived approximately 20% of its total Q2 FY 2022 revenue from services as per its quarterly earnings press release, so there is room for the company to further optimize its sales mix with a bias towards growing revenue contribution from services at a faster pace.</p><p>In the next section, I focus on Apple&#39;s stock price decline thus far this year.</p><p><b>Why Did Apple Stock Drop?</b></p><p>Apple&#39;s stock price dropped by -25.6% in 2022 thus far, and it underperformed the S&amp;P 500 which was down by -21.0% during the same period.</p><p><b>AAPL&#39;s 2022 Year-to-date Share Price Chart</b></p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/39057828144a7f0bc9c470f048173d9e\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"221\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Seeking Alpha</span></p><p>AAPL&#39;s share price weakness is partly attributed to the correction in the broader stock market and technology stocks as a result of investors&#39; worries over higher-than-expected inflation and a potential recession. But there are also company-specific factors that have driven a decline in Apple&#39;s stock price.</p><p>In the past three months, the Q3 FY 2022 consensus earnings per share estimate for Apple has been reduced by -7.5%. Specifically, 25 of the 44 Wall Street analysts covering AAPL&#39;s shares lowered their third-quarter EPS forecasts for the company in the last three months. This is consistent with Apple&#39;s forward-looking management guidance.</p><p>At its Q2 FY 2022 earnings briefing, AAPL had guided for a $4-$8 billion hit to its third-quarter revenue resulting from &#34;COVID-related disruptions (more specifically lockdowns in China) and industry-wide silicon shortages.&#34; The company also highlighted that it expects unfavorable exchange rate fluctuations and the suspension of sales in Russia to impact the YoY growth for its Q3 FY 2022 top line by -3.0 percentage points and -1.5 percentage points, respectively.</p><p>In the next section I touch on whether Apple&#39;s valuations have become more attractive after the year-to-date pull-back in its share price.</p><p><b>Is Apple Stock A Good Value Now?</b></p><p>Following the -25% decline in its stock price thus far this year, Apple&#39;s consensus forward next twelve months&#39; normalized P/E multiple has compressed from its 2022 year-to-date peak of 31.9 times as of January 3, 2022, to 22.0 times as of June 22, as per<i>S&amp;P Capital IQ</i>.</p><p>AAPL is currently trading at 22.0 times forward P/E, which is roughly on par with its five-year mean forward P/E multiple of 21.4 times. When the short-term headwinds (as discussed in the preceding section) eventually ease and the company manages to achieve a more optimal sales mix biased towards higher-margin services in the future, Apple should be able to trade at the high end of its five-year forward P/E valuation range (AAPL&#39;s peak forward P/E multiple in the last five years was 36.6 times) again.</p><p>In conclusion, I think Apple&#39;s stock is good value now, considering its historical valuations and future profitability outlook.</p><p><b>Is Apple Expected To Rise Again?</b></p><p>I am of the opinion that Apple&#39;s stock price is expected to rise again in the short term.</p><p>According to JPMorgan&#39;s (JPM) &#34;Global Product Availability Lead Time Tracker&#34; research report (not publicly available) published on June 19, 2022, the worldwide &#34;lead times in general moderated for Mac and iPads&#34; for the week ended June 17, 2022, which the JPM analysts highlight is &#34;in line with the reopening in China.&#34; Also, JPM&#39;s recent research work found that the current lead times for AAPL&#39;s other products such as the iPhone stayed low at below a week.</p><p>This is consistent with the findings from another bank&#39;s research team. Morgan Stanley (MS) published its North American IT hardware &#34;Monthly Data Tracker&#34; report (not publicly available) on June 22, 2022, which noted that the lead time for the iPad decreased from 15 days as of June 9, 2022, to 14 days as of June 16, 2022. Similarly, the MS analysts&#39; research work suggests that the lead time for the MacBook Pro M1 declined from 62 days to 56 days over the same period.</p><p>In my view, an easing of supply chain constraints as evidenced by the improvement in lead times mentioned above should be a positive re-rating catalyst for Apple in the short term.</p><p><b>What Is The Long-Term Prediction For Apple Stock?</b></p><p>The key aspect of any long-term financial predictions for Apple is the potential improvement in the company&#39;s profitability. As I discussed earlier in this article, a growing percentage of sales derived from higher-margin services should result in an expansion of Apple&#39;s profit margins in the long run. Based on financial projections sourced from<i>S&amp;P Capital IQ</i>, AAPL&#39;s gross profit margin is forecasted to increase from 41.8% in fiscal 2021 to 43.5% by FY 2026.</p><p>The market&#39;s expectations of increased services revenue contribution and improved profitability are reasonable. Apple has been putting in a huge amount of effort to make it easier for the company to cross-sell additional hardware devices and services to its iPhone users as seen with its recent press release.</p><p>On June 6, 2022, Apple revealed the features of its new operating system for the iPhone (iOS16), and also disclosed the introduction of two new laptops.</p><p>In this announcement, AAPL explained that certain &#34;new features for Apple&#39;s Macs and iPads are designed to make it easier to sync with the iPhone.&#34; As an example, the iPhone can be utilized as &#34;a webcam&#34; for &#34;video calls&#34; on Macs going forward, as highlighted in an article published by The Verge on the same day of Apple&#39;s announcement.</p><p>Separately, Apple&#39;s new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro devices will come with Apple&#39;s M2 chip. In this latest update for AAPL, I analyze whether a buying opportunity for Apple has emerged as a result of the pullback in the company's share price year-to-date in 2022.This is a good time to buy Apple's stock, as the dip in its share price year-to-date has made its valuations more attractive with its forward P/E multiple reverting close to its five-year historical mean. There is room for AAPL's valuation multiples to expand in tandem with higher profit margins resulting from a superior sales mix tilted towards services.AAPL Stock BasicsPrior to touching on AAPL's stock price correction, valuations, and outlook, it is relevant to revisit the basics for Apple. In other words, I will be discussing the company's business model and the investment thesis for the stock in the current section of this article.Apple's business model is to continue expanding the installed base for its flagship hardware device, the iPhone, and cross-sell other hardware products and services to its iPhone users.At the company's earnings call for the first quarter of fiscal 2022 (YE September 30) on January 27, 2022, Apple disclosed that its \"installed base of active devices\" has set \"a new all-time record of 1.8 billion devices.\" AAPL updated investors at its Q2 FY 2022 results briefing on April 28, 2022, that the company's \"installed base (of active devices) has continued to grow\", while noting that \"the iPhone active installed base reached \"a new all-time high.\" According to the Business of Apps website's compilation of data on AAPL, the number of active iPhones (excluding other hardware devices such as iPads) on a worldwide basis had already crossed the 1.2 billion mark by the end of last year.The investment thesis for AAPL is closely linked to its business model. But there are also company-specific factors that have driven a decline in Apple's stock price.In the past three months, the Q3 FY 2022 consensus earnings per share estimate for Apple has been reduced by -7.5%. Specifically, 25 of the 44 Wall Street analysts covering AAPL's shares lowered their third-quarter EPS forecasts for the company in the last three months. This is consistent with Apple's forward-looking management guidance.At its Q2 FY 2022 earnings briefing, AAPL had guided for a $4-$8 billion hit to its third-quarter revenue resulting from \"COVID-related disruptions (more specifically lockdowns in China) and industry-wide silicon shortages.\" The company also highlighted that it expects unfavorable exchange rate fluctuations and the suspension of sales in Russia to impact the YoY growth for its Q3 FY 2022 top line by -3.0 percentage points and -1.5 percentage points, respectively.In the next section I touch on whether Apple's valuations have become more attractive after the year-to-date pull-back in its share price.Is Apple Stock A Good Value Now?Following the -25% decline in its stock price thus far this year, Apple's consensus forward next twelve months' normalized P/E multiple has compressed from its 2022 year-to-date peak of 31.9 times as of January 3, 2022, to 22.0 times as of June 22, as perS&P Capital IQ.AAPL is currently trading at 22.0 times forward P/E, which is roughly on par with its five-year mean forward P/E multiple of 21.4 times. When the short-term headwinds (as discussed in the preceding section) eventually ease and the company manages to achieve a more optimal sales mix biased towards higher-margin services in the future, Apple should be able to trade at the high end of its five-year forward P/E valuation range (AAPL's peak forward P/E multiple in the last five years was 36.6 times) again.In conclusion, I think Apple's stock is good value now, considering its historical valuations and future profitability outlook.Is Apple Expected To Rise Again?I am of the opinion that Apple's stock price is expected to rise again in the short term.According to JPMorgan's (JPM) \"Global Product Availability Lead Time Tracker\" research report (not publicly available) published on June 19, 2022, the worldwide \"lead times in general moderated for Mac and iPads\" for the week ended June 17, 2022, which the JPM analysts highlight is \"in line with the reopening in China.\" Also, JPM's recent research work found that the current lead times for AAPL's other products such as the iPhone stayed low at below a week.This is consistent with the findings from another bank's research team. Morgan Stanley (MS) published its North American IT hardware \"Monthly Data Tracker\" report (not publicly available) on June 22, 2022, which noted that the lead time for the iPad decreased from 15 days as of June 9, 2022, to 14 days as of June 16, 2022. Similarly, the MS analysts' research work suggests that the lead time for the MacBook Pro M1 declined from 62 days to 56 days over the same period.In my view, an easing of supply chain constraints as evidenced by the improvement in lead times mentioned above should be a positive re-rating catalyst for Apple in the short term.What Is The Long-Term Prediction For Apple Stock?The key aspect of any long-term financial predictions for Apple is the potential improvement in the company's profitability. As I discussed earlier in this article, a growing percentage of sales derived from higher-margin services should result in an expansion of Apple's profit margins in the long run. Based on financial projections sourced fromS&P Capital IQ, AAPL's gross profit margin is forecasted to increase from 41.8% in fiscal 2021 to 43.5% by FY 2026.The market's expectations of increased services revenue contribution and improved profitability are reasonable. Apple has been putting in a huge amount of effort to make it easier for the company to cross-sell additional hardware devices and services to its iPhone users as seen with its recent press release.On June 6, 2022, Apple revealed the features of its new operating system for the iPhone (iOS16), and also disclosed the introduction of two new laptops.In this announcement, AAPL explained that certain \"new features for Apple's Macs and iPads are designed to make it easier to sync with the iPhone.\" As an example, the iPhone can be utilized as \"a webcam\" for \"video calls\" on Macs going forward, as highlighted in an article published by The Verge on the same day of Apple's announcement.Separately, Apple's new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro devices will come with Apple's M2 chip. I was wrong, but I have still been correct in 24 of the past 35 weeks.</p><p>Where do I go to next? I see <b>Rite Aid</b>, <b>MicroStrategy</b>, and <b>CVR Energy</b> as stocks you may want to consider steering clear of this week. Let&#39;s go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.</p><h2><b>Rite Aid</b></h2><p>Time hasn&#39;t been kind to Rite Aid since it rejected a buyout proposal to take the drugstore operator private at $14.60 a share three months ago. The stock begins this holiday-shortened trading week at $6.20.</p><p>It doesn&#39;t help that Rite Aid also posted a much larger quarterly loss than analysts were expecting in April. Adding fuel to the fire sale, the drugstore chain reports fresh financials on Thursday morning.</p><p>There&#39;s always hope that Rite Aid eventually finds a suitable exit strategy. It never truly recovered from when shareholders shot down a proposed pairing with Walgreens a few years ago. It also has assets it may be able to unlock. <b>Deutsche Bank</b> stunned the market when it slashed its price target on Rite Aid from $16 to $1 three months ago. Deutsche Bank analyst George Hill has since boosted that price goal to $2, and then $4 on the potential for Rite Aid to raise money by selling its pharmacy benefits manager business, but he&#39;s sticking to his bearish sell rating. The upside is there if Rite Aid can ever get beyond its arrogance, but for now it has a pending quarterly earnings update, and that didn&#39;t go well last time.</p><h2><b>MicroStrategy</b></h2><p>There&#39;s been something wrong with the crypto market in recent months, and the chaos is only intensifying. We&#39;ve even seen a stablecoin and a decentralized finance platform slam on the brakes in the past couple of weeks. The market&#39;s confidence in digital currencies has been rattled, possibly to the point where it&#39;s irreversible. Where does that leave MicroStrategy?</p><p>CEO Michael Saylor has gone all in on <b>Bitcoin</b> (BTC 6.58%). It&#39;s a decision that seemed brilliant when he invested billions in the top crypto as it was rising. But it&#39;s been disastrous on the way down. More to the point, the enterprise software company that Sailor should be focusing on was never exciting. We&#39;re talking about declining annual revenue in six of the past seven years. Bitcoin&#39;s crash is showing us that the emperor has no clothes, but it&#39;s not as if MicroStrategy itself was a snappy dresser before the costly infatuation with the imploding crypto market.</p><h2><b>CVR Energy</b></h2><p>After back-to-back weeks of greater-than 5% slides, I want my third pick to be hopeful for a general market rebound. This means betting against an investment that&#39;s been rising as general markets are falling. One of the largest companies to have more than doubled in 2022 is CVR Energy.</p><p>The petroleum refiner and maker of nitrogen fertilizer is booming alongside most oil and gas stocks this year. With petroleum prices soaring, it&#39;s easy to see why the stock is up 105% year to date. However, the good times aren&#39;t expected to last. Revenue and earnings are skyrocketing this year, but analysts see an 8% revenue decline come 2023, with earnings cut nearly in half. Looking back, it has also posted a larger-than-expected adjusted loss in two of the past three quarters. If the overall market starts to recover, there will be some rotation out of this red-hot sector. CVR Energy is doing a lot of things right, but even winners need to take a breather now and then.</p><p>It&#39;s going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments. The three stocks I thought were going to move lower for the week -- Oracle, Beyond Air, and Blink Charging -- finished up 1%, up 5%, and flat, respectively, averaging out to a 2% gain.The S&P 500 experienced a 5.8% drop, and the investments I figured would fare worse did a lot better. I was wrong, but I have still been correct in 24 of the past 35 weeks.Where do I go to next? I see Rite Aid, MicroStrategy, and CVR Energy as stocks you may want to consider steering clear of this week. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.Rite AidTime hasn't been kind to Rite Aid since it rejected a buyout proposal to take the drugstore operator private at $14.60 a share three months ago. The stock begins this holiday-shortened trading week at $6.20.It doesn't help that Rite Aid also posted a much larger quarterly loss than analysts were expecting in April. Adding fuel to the fire sale, the drugstore chain reports fresh financials on Thursday morning.There's always hope that Rite Aid eventually finds a suitable exit strategy. It never truly recovered from when shareholders shot down a proposed pairing with Walgreens a few years ago. It also has assets it may be able to unlock. Deutsche Bank stunned the market when it slashed its price target on Rite Aid from $16 to $1 three months ago. Deutsche Bank analyst George Hill has since boosted that price goal to $2, and then $4 on the potential for Rite Aid to raise money by selling its pharmacy benefits manager business, but he's sticking to his bearish sell rating. The upside is there if Rite Aid can ever get beyond its arrogance, but for now it has a pending quarterly earnings update, and that didn't go well last time.MicroStrategyThere's been something wrong with the crypto market in recent months, and the chaos is only intensifying. We've even seen a stablecoin and a decentralized finance platform slam on the brakes in the past couple of weeks. The market's confidence in digital currencies has been rattled, possibly to the point where it's irreversible. Where does that leave MicroStrategy?CEO Michael Saylor has gone all in on Bitcoin (BTC 6.58%). It's a decision that seemed brilliant when he invested billions in the top crypto as it was rising. But it's been disastrous on the way down. More to the point, the enterprise software company that Sailor should be focusing on was never exciting. We're talking about declining annual revenue in six of the past seven years. Bitcoin's crash is showing us that the emperor has no clothes, but it's not as if MicroStrategy itself was a snappy dresser before the costly infatuation with the imploding crypto market.CVR EnergyAfter back-to-back weeks of greater-than 5% slides, I want my third pick to be hopeful for a general market rebound. This means betting against an investment that's been rising as general markets are falling. One of the largest companies to have more than doubled in 2022 is CVR Energy.The petroleum refiner and maker of nitrogen fertilizer is booming alongside most oil and gas stocks this year. With petroleum prices soaring, it's easy to see why the stock is up 105% year to date. However, the good times aren't expected to last. Revenue and earnings are skyrocketing this year, but analysts see an 8% revenue decline come 2023, with earnings cut nearly in half. Looking back, it has also posted a larger-than-expected adjusted loss in two of the past three quarters. If the overall market starts to recover, there will be some rotation out of this red-hot sector. CVR Energy is doing a lot of things right, but even winners need to take a breather now and then.It's going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments. If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in Rite Aid, MicroStrategy, or CVR Energy this week.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":122,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
