Photography/ShutterStock.com

While it’s important to have a variety of stocks in your portfolio, I always look for affordable dividend-paying stocks. Identifying the best dividend stocks to buy is a sure ticket to investing success.

I like dividend stocks because they provide a steady income stream. The best dividend stocks pay a consistent, if not growing, dividend quarterly or monthly. That income stream can help investors supplement their income through their investments.

And many companies work to grow their dividends over time consistently. Owning the best cheap dividend stocks on the market allows you to grow those payouts over time.

And finally, I love that you can continually reinvest your dividend payouts into your portfolio – either into the same company or to take a stake in a different equity. Dividend reinvestment plans allow you to use your payout to buy additional shares automatically. It’s a great way to maximize your portfolio growth.

Here are seven great dividend stocks under $25 that you can buy now – all of them get excellent grades in the Dividend Grader.

Wendys Company (WEN)

Source: Deutschlandreform / Shutterstock.com

Ohio-based Wendy’s Company (NASDAQ:WEN) operates the Wendy’s fast-food chain. With 7,000 locations, it’s grown to be the No. 3 burger chain (by size) in the U.S.

The company is on solid financial footing, with first-quarter revenues of $528.81 million coming in better than expectations for $522.43 million. Earnings per share were 21 cents, a penny better than expected.

Those solid financials will help Wendy’s pay one of the better dividends you can find in the restaurant industry. WEN stock currently offers a dividend yield of 4.5%.

With the stock up by 6% since mid-March, you can expect those dividends to keep coming. WEN stock has an A rating in the Dividend Grader.

Ford (F)

Source: JuliusKielaitis / Shutterstock.com

The iconic automotive company Ford (NYSE:F) has long been one of the cheaper stocks on the market. And it’s also one of the best dividend-paying stocks you can get.

Ford’s priced at less than $15 per share but pays a generous 60 cents annually in dividends. That equates to a 4.4% dividend yield at today’s prices – an excellent return on your investment.

Ford is also getting a lot of investor attention after the company announced a partnership with Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) that will allow Ford’s electric vehicles to use Tesla’s charging technology. F stock is up 15% since the announcement.

With those kinds of gains, it won’t be long before Ford climbs to $20 and higher. F stock has a “B” rating in the Dividend Grader.

New York Community Bancorp (NYCB)

Source: Piotr Swat / Shutterstock

Regional bank New York Community Bancorp (NYSE:NYCB) became a hot stock in March when it agreed to buy most of the deposits and $13 billion in loans of the failed Signature Bank (OTCMKTS:SBNY). In all, it took about $38 billion in assets.

That announcement pushed NYCB up close to $30 in a matter of days – and it hasn’t looked back. New York Community Bancorp is over $11 per share, up more than 70% from that mid-March announcement.

New York Community Bancorp used Signature’s demise for its benefit. Taking on the company’s discounted assets lets NYCB shore up its balance sheet. It ended the first quarter with $123.8 billion in assets, an increase of 37% from the previous quarter.

NYCB also offers an excellent 6.1% dividend yield. It has a “B” rating in the Dividend Grader.

North European Oil Royalty Trust (NRT)

Source: Oil and Gas Photographer / Shutterstock.com

North European Oil Royalty Trust (NYSE:NRT) is a great way to invest in the European oil and gas market through local subsidiaries of two enormous companies.

The trust manages oil and gas production in Germany that is contracted to German subsidiaries of Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) and Shell (NYSE:SHEL). It doesn’t have any business operations of its own – it only collects the income from royalty rights and distributes them to shareholders.

Also valuable for investors to know – the royalty trust structure means that these kinds of companies can offer a dividend greater than other companies because the distributions are not considered taxable events.

That’s why NRT, priced at less than $13, shows a dividend yield of 26.5%. That’s worth a “B” rating in the Dividend Grader.

Urstadt Biddle Properties (UBA)

Source: Vitalii Vodolazskyi / Shutterstock

Another great way to get high dividends is to invest in real estate investment trusts, or REITs. REITs have a unique tax structure that requires them to return 90% of their profits to shareholders. That creates some great opportunities for yield if you’re looking for regular income.

Urstadt Biddle Properties (NYSE:UBA) is a retail REIT with holdings around New York City, including some properties in Connecticut and New Jersey. The company specializes in properties anchored by grocery stores in community shopping centers or neighborhoods.

But be aware that UBA has a deal on the books to be acquired later this year by Regency Centers Corp. (NASDAQ:REG) in an all-stock deal. That deal will keep UBA stock priced at around $20.

Until then, you can enjoy the 4.1% dividend yield of this REIT, which has a “B” rating in the Dividend Grader.

Sirius XM (SIRI)

Source: Shutterstock

Satellite radio company Sirius XM (NASDAQ:SIRI) has had a tough year – shares are down 33%, and the company issued guidance for 2023 that was weaker than expected, citing expectations that consumer spending would continue to slow and the automotive market was soft.

While I’ve had my reservations and Sirius XM, it’s also important to point out that the company is showing signs of life. Shares are up 13% since May 10.

Just as significantly, management is changing gears regarding its 2023 guidance. In issuing Q1 results in April, Sirius increased full-year guidance for adjusted EBITDA and free cash flow. It’s projecting adjusted EBITDA of $2.75 million, free cash flow of $1.1 billion, and revenues of $9 billion.

The company provides a 2.5% dividend yield that’s increased in the last six years. SIRI stock appears to be back and has an “A” rating in the Dividend Grader.

Ruth’s Hospitality (RUTH)

Source: Jonathan Weiss / Shutterstock.com

This cheap dividend stock won’t be around for long, but you can still get some income while it’s here. Ruth’s Hospitality (NASDAQ:RUTH) is being bought by Darden Restaurants (NYSE:DRI).

The deal was announced in May and is scheduled to go through later this year. The all-cash deal values Ruth’s at $715 million, or $21.50 per share. That’s where the stock price will likely hold.

Ruth’s, which operates the high-end Ruth’s Chris Steak House chain, pays a quarterly dividend with a 3% yield. It has an “A” rating in the Dividend Grader.

","source":"investorplace","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
7 Great Dividend Stocks Under $25 for 2023
\n\na,abbr,acronym,address,applet,article,aside,audio,b,big,blockquote,body,canvas,caption,center,cite,code,dd,del,details,dfn,div,dl,dt,\nem,embed,fieldset,figcaption,figure,footer,form,h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6,header,hgroup,html,i,iframe,img,ins,kbd,label,legend,li,mark,menu,nav,\nobject,ol,output,p,pre,q,ruby,s,samp,section,small,span,strike,strong,sub,summary,sup,table,tbody,td,tfoot,th,thead,time,tr,tt,u,ul,var,video{ font:inherit;margin:0;padding:0;vertical-align:baseline;border:0 }\nbody{ font-size:16px; Photography/ShutterStock.comWhile it’s important to have a variety of stocks in your portfolio, I always look for affordable dividend-paying stocks. Identifying the best dividend stocks to buy is a sure ticket to investing success.I like dividend stocks because they provide a steady income stream. Here are seven great dividend stocks under $25 that you can buy now – all of them get excellent grades in the Dividend Grader.Wendys Company (WEN)Source: Deutschlandreform / Shutterstock.comOhio-based Wendy’s Company (NASDAQ:WEN) operates the Wendy’s fast-food chain. With 7,000 locations, it’s grown to be the No. 3 burger chain (by size) in the U.S.The company is on solid financial footing, with first-quarter revenues of $528.81 million coming in better than expectations for $522.43 million. Earnings per share were 21 cents, a penny better than expected. Those solid financials will help Wendy’s pay one of the better dividends you can find in the restaurant industry. WEN stock currently offers a dividend yield of 4.5%.With the stock up by 6% since mid-March, you can expect those dividends to keep coming. WEN stock has an A rating in the Dividend Grader.Ford (F)Source: JuliusKielaitis / Shutterstock.comThe iconic automotive company Ford (NYSE:F) has long been one of the cheaper stocks on the market. And it’s also one of the best dividend-paying stocks you can get.Ford’s priced at less than $15 per share but pays a generous 60 cents annually in dividends. That equates to a 4.4% dividend yield at today’s prices – an excellent return on your investment.Ford is also getting a lot of investor attention after the company announced a partnership with Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) that will allow Ford’s electric vehicles to use Tesla’s charging technology. F stock is up 15% since the announcement. With those kinds of gains, it won’t be long before Ford climbs to $20 and higher. F stock has a “B” rating in the Dividend Grader.New York Community Bancorp (NYCB)Source: Piotr Swat / ShutterstockRegional bank New York Community Bancorp (NYSE:NYCB) became a hot stock in March when it agreed to buy most of the deposits and $13 billion in loans of the failed Signature Bank (OTCMKTS:SBNY). In all, it took about $38 billion in assets. That announcement pushed NYCB up close to $30 in a matter of days – and it hasn’t looked back. New York Community Bancorp is over $11 per share, up more than 70% from that mid-March announcement.New York Community Bancorp used Signature’s demise for its benefit. Taking on the company’s discounted assets lets NYCB shore up its balance sheet. It ended the first quarter with $123.8 billion in assets, an increase of 37% from the previous quarter.NYCB also offers an excellent 6.1% dividend yield. It has a “B” rating in the Dividend Grader.North European Oil Royalty Trust (NRT)Source: Oil and Gas Photographer / Shutterstock.comNorth European Oil Royalty Trust (NYSE:NRT) is a great way to invest in the European oil and gas market through local subsidiaries of two enormous companies. That’s worth a “B” rating in the Dividend Grader.Urstadt Biddle Properties (UBA)Source: Vitalii Vodolazskyi / ShutterstockAnother great way to get high dividends is to invest in real estate investment trusts, or REITs. REITs have a unique tax structure that requires them to return 90% of their profits to shareholders. That creates some great opportunities for yield if you’re looking for regular income.Urstadt Biddle Properties (NYSE:UBA) is a retail REIT with holdings around New York City, including some properties in Connecticut and New Jersey. The company specializes in properties anchored by grocery stores in community shopping centers or neighborhoods. But be aware that UBA has a deal on the books to be acquired later this year by Regency Centers Corp. (NASDAQ:REG) in an all-stock deal. That deal will keep UBA stock priced at around $20.Until then, you can enjoy the 4.1% dividend yield of this REIT, which has a “B” rating in the Dividend Grader.Sirius XM (SIRI)Source: ShutterstockSatellite radio company Sirius XM (NASDAQ:SIRI) has had a tough year – shares are down 33%, and the company issued guidance for 2023 that was weaker than expected, citing expectations that consumer spending would continue to slow and the automotive market was soft. While I’ve had my reservations and Sirius XM, it’s also important to point out that the company is showing signs of life. Shares are up 13% since May 10.Just as significantly, management is changing gears regarding its 2023 guidance. SIRI stock appears to be back and has an “A” rating in the Dividend Grader.Ruth’s Hospitality (RUTH)Source: Jonathan Weiss / Shutterstock.comThis cheap dividend stock won’t be around for long, but you can still get some income while it’s here. Ruth’s Hospitality (NASDAQ:RUTH) is being bought by Darden Restaurants (NYSE:DRI).The deal was announced in May and is scheduled to go through later this year. The all-cash deal values Ruth’s at $715 million, or $21.50 per share. That’s where the stock price will likely hold.Ruth’s, which operates the high-end Ruth’s Chris Steak House chain, pays a quarterly dividend with a 3% yield. It has an “A” rating in the Dividend Grader.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":113,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":256607757869272,"gmtCreate":1703682276109,"gmtModify":1703763583166,"author":{"id":"4109835253470190","authorId":"4109835253470190","name":"SnakeToad","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/b99cfe4b0a492018c40761a39a193aa8","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4109835253470190","authorIdStr":"4109835253470190"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"one word to describe my portfolio: enlightening because I'm learning to integrate options in my strategy","listText":"one word to describe my portfolio: enlightening because I'm learning to integrate options in my strategy","text":"one word to describe my portfolio: enlightening because I'm learning to integrate options in my strategy","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":2,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/256607757869272","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":107,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9922324483,"gmtCreate":1671699325542,"gmtModify":1676538578147,"author":{"id":"4109835253470190","authorId":"4109835253470190","name":"SnakeToad","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/b99cfe4b0a492018c40761a39a193aa8","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4109835253470190","authorIdStr":"4109835253470190"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Huat big big","listText":"Huat big big","text":"Huat big big","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":12,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9922324483","repostId":"1102116872","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1102116872","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1671722826,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1102116872?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-12-22 23:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Is a 2023 Stock-Market Rebound in Store After 2022 Selloff?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1102116872","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"History shows back-to-back losing years for the stocks are rare — but the size of the market’s drop ","content":"

History shows back-to-back losing years for the stocks are rare — but the size of the market’s drop in 2022 with no sign the Federal Reserve is ready to ride to the rescue means investors should beware, analysts warned.

With just a handful of trading days left in what is shaping up to be the worst year for the U.S. stock market in over a decade, the S&P 500 index is on track to close out the year down more than 18.5%.

That is the large-cap index’s first double-digit percentage loss since 2008, when it slid 36.6% during the global financial crisis, according to Dow Jones Market Data.

However, it is extremely rare for the S&P 500 to post back-to-back down years. The S&P has fallen for two straight years less than 10% of the time from 1928 to 2021. In the year after a negative total annual return for the S&P, the index is up by 12.6% on average and is positive 17 out of 25 years, according to data compiled by DataTrek Research.

But the market’s performance after posting a double-digit percentage drop has been less straightforward.

“The S&P 500 has a much better win rate (79% vs 55%) and average performance (up 17.5% vs. 6.4%) in the 12 months following a down calendar year of less than 10% than one that does worse than that, and 2022 is shaping up to be in the latter camp,” said Jessica Rabe, co-founder of DataTrek Research, in a Tuesday note.

Rabe, however, noted that in the few instances when the S&P 500 has dropped consecutive calendar years, it’s been due to a major economic event, such as the Great Depression between 1929 and 1939, or a geopolitical shock, such as the World War II and the oil crisis in 1972, or both, in the case of the early 2000s when there was the bursting of the dot-com bubble, the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and the subsequent U.S. invasion of Iraq.

She argued that there would likely need to be another major economic or geopolitical crisis for the S&P 500 to fall for a second consecutive year in 2023. However, help from the Federal Reserve in the form of lowering interest rates or a rise in federal government spending would be crucial for a bounce in the U.S. equities after a hard year.

“The Financial Crisis is a useful example to show that when times get truly difficult, fiscal and monetary policy stimulus can help the S&P rebound after a horrible year,” Rabe wrote.

The S&P 500 booked an annual loss of over 36% in 2008 after Lehman Brothers went bankrupt under the weight of $619 billion in debt due to investments in subprime mortgages. The index was up 25.9% in the following year after the Federal Open Market Committee decided to increase the size of the Fed’s balance sheet by purchasing additional government-sponsored agency mortgage-backed securities, in response to the severity of the economic contraction.

However, Wall Street strategists warned stock-market investors that they should not expect any form of “Fed put” next year.

Investors have talked of a figurative Fed put since at least the October 1987 stock-market crash prompted the Alan Greenspan-led central bank to lower interest rates. An actual put option is a financial derivative that gives the holder the right but not the obligation to sell the underlying asset at a set level, known as the strike price, serving as an insurance policy against a market decline.

Victoria Fernandez, chief market strategist at Crossmark Global Investments, thinks the Fed is going to let the market work through the “shallow recession” in 2023 and not immediately jump in and cut rates.

“Historically we assumed and knew that we would have a ‘Fed put’, that immediately Fed steps in and handles it for us. But what Powell is trying to make markets understand is, hey, we are not going to be doing this,” Fernandez told MarketWatch on Tuesday.

“They’re just willy-nilly trying to drive us over the cliff,” she added.

“That’s why U.S. equities are so volatile just now, as no one knows when the Fed will pivot to being more accommodative. Chair Powell is solely focused on bringing down inflation to the Fed’s 2% target and he has the latitude to do so given the strength of the U.S. labor market,” said Rabe at DataTrek.

U.S. stocks rallied on Wednesday after snapping four-day losing streak in the previous session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.6% higher, but was on pace to book an annual loss of 8.2%. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.5%, but has decreased by 31.5% year-to-date. The S&P 500 gained 56.82 points, or 1.5%, finishing at 3,878.44.

David Wagner, portfolio manager for Aptus Capital Advisors in Cincinnati, told MarketWatch that he expects the stock market to experience less pain and less price volatility next year, but that doesn’t mean investors will see positive market returns.

“We believe that a policy error has already been committed by the Fed. The real and long-lasting policy error would be if inflation were to become unanchored, thus the emphasis on the market focusing on price stability, specifically wage inflation, in the near-term,” Wagner said.

“History shows us that markets are a sprint lower and a marathon higher. The S&P has fallen for two straight years less than 10% of the time from 1928 to 2021. In the year after a negative total annual return for the S&P, the index is up by 12.6% on average and is positive 17 out of 25 years, according to data compiled by DataTrek Research. But the market’s performance after posting a double-digit percentage drop has been less straightforward.“The S&P 500 has a much better win rate (79% vs 55%) and average performance (up 17.5% vs. 6.4%) in the 12 months following a down calendar year of less than 10% than one that does worse than that, and 2022 is shaping up to be in the latter camp,” said Jessica Rabe, co-founder of DataTrek Research, in a Tuesday note.Rabe, however, noted that in the few instances when the S&P 500 has dropped consecutive calendar years, it’s been due to a major economic event, such as the Great Depression between 1929 and 1939, or a geopolitical shock, such as the World War II and the oil crisis in 1972, or both, in the case of the early 2000s when there was the bursting of the dot-com bubble, the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and the subsequent U.S. invasion of Iraq. She argued that there would likely need to be another major economic or geopolitical crisis for the S&P 500 to fall for a second consecutive year in 2023. However, help from the Federal Reserve in the form of lowering interest rates or a rise in federal government spending would be crucial for a bounce in the U.S. equities after a hard year.“The Financial Crisis is a useful example to show that when times get truly difficult, fiscal and monetary policy stimulus can help the S&P rebound after a horrible year,” Rabe wrote. However, Wall Street strategists warned stock-market investors that they should not expect any form of “Fed put” next year.Investors have talked of a figurative Fed put since at least the October 1987 stock-market crash prompted the Alan Greenspan-led central bank to lower interest rates. An actual put option is a financial derivative that gives the holder the right but not the obligation to sell the underlying asset at a set level, known as the strike price, serving as an insurance policy against a market decline.Victoria Fernandez, chief market strategist at Crossmark Global Investments, thinks the Fed is going to let the market work through the “shallow recession” in 2023 and not immediately jump in and cut rates.“Historically we assumed and knew that we would have a ‘Fed put’, that immediately Fed steps in and handles it for us. But what Powell is trying to make markets understand is, hey, we are not going to be doing this,” Fernandez told MarketWatch on Tuesday.“They’re just willy-nilly trying to drive us over the cliff,” she added.“That’s why U.S. equities are so volatile just now, as no one knows when the Fed will pivot to being more accommodative. Chair Powell is solely focused on bringing down inflation to the Fed’s 2% target and he has the latitude to do so given the strength of the U.S. labor market,” said Rabe at DataTrek.U.S. stocks rallied on Wednesday after snapping four-day losing streak in the previous session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.6% higher, but was on pace to book an annual loss of 8.2%. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.5%, but has decreased by 31.5% year-to-date. The S&P 500 gained 56.82 points, or 1.5%, finishing at 3,878.44.David Wagner, portfolio manager for Aptus Capital Advisors in Cincinnati, told MarketWatch that he expects the stock market to experience less pain and less price volatility next year, but that doesn’t mean investors will see positive market returns.“We believe that a policy error has already been committed by the Fed. The real and long-lasting policy error would be if inflation were to become unanchored, thus the emphasis on the market focusing on price stability, specifically wage inflation, in the near-term,” Wagner said.“History shows us that markets are a sprint lower and a marathon higher. With the potential for slowing global growth and a less accommodative Fed, this marathon may include more hills than plains, which could create constant volatility in the market,” he said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":70,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9964791069,"gmtCreate":1670204807752,"gmtModify":1676538319521,"author":{"id":"4109835253470190","authorId":"4109835253470190","name":"SnakeToad","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/b99cfe4b0a492018c40761a39a193aa8","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4109835253470190","authorIdStr":"4109835253470190"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9964791069","repostId":"1193274971","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1193274971","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1670203286,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1193274971?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-12-05 1H2022.

An interim dividend of S$0.015 was paid out on 1 December, the same quantum as a year ago.

Mapletree Industrial Trust

Mapletree Industrial Trust, or MIT, owns a portfolio of 85 properties in Singapore and 56 in the US worth S$8.9 billion as of 30 September 2022.

MIT reported a mixed performance for manager intends to release S$6.6 million of tax-exempt income over the next three quarters to mitigate the rise in operating costs.

Singapore Airlines Limited

Singapore Airlines Limited, or SIA, is Singapore’s flagship carrier.

The group has enjoyed stronger business volumes as economies reopened and pent-up demand led to more people booking air tickets for vacations.

Passenger numbers have soared for SIA’s 2Q2023 ending 30 September 2022, going from 466,000 in the prior year to 6.3 million.

As a result, the airline’s 1H2023 numbers came in very strong as it reported arecord-high operating profitof S$1.2 billion.

SIA also resumed its dividend payments, declaring an interim dividend of S$0.10 to be paid out on 22 December.

For context, its latest interim dividend was even higher than the S$0.08 that was paid out in November 2019 before the pandemic hit.

Singtel

Singtel is Singapore’s largest telecommunication company (telco).

The group posted amixed set of earningsfor 1H2023, with revenue dipping by 5.1% year on year to S$7.3 billion.

However, an exceptional gain booked for the sale of a 3.3% stake in Bharti Airtel led to net profit climbing 23% year on year to S$1.2 billion.

If this exceptional gain was excluded, core net profit still inched up 2% year on year to S$1 billion.

Because of the divestment, Singtel declared a special dividend of S$0.05 to be paid out equally in two tranches – during its interim results and then again when it reports its FY2022 earnings in May next year.

The telco also announced an interim dividend of S$0.046.

Both airline’s 1H2023 numbers came in very strong as it reported arecord-high operating profitof S$1.2 billion.SIA also resumed its dividend payments, declaring an interim dividend of S$0.10 to be paid out on 22 December. For context, its latest interim dividend was even higher than the S$0.08 that was paid out in November 2019 before the pandemic hit.Singtel Singtel is Singapore’s largest telecommunication company (telco). If this exceptional gain was excluded, core net profit still inched up 2% year on year to S$1 billion.Because of the divestment, Singtel declared a special dividend of S$0.05 to be paid out equally in two tranches – during its interim results and then again when it reports its FY2022 earnings in May next year. The telco also announced an interim dividend of S$0.046.Both dividends will be paid out on 9 December.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":89,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9940358629,"gmtCreate":1677716711062,"gmtModify":1677716715177,"author":{"id":"4109835253470190","authorId":"4109835253470190","name":"SnakeToad","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/b99cfe4b0a492018c40761a39a193aa8","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4109835253470190","authorIdStr":"4109835253470190"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a The unemployment rate is seen steady at 3.5%, while the average hourly earnings are estimated to rise 0.4%, following a 0.5% rise in the previous month.

"The labor market needs to show signs that it's on the path to returning to a state of relative balance, where job openings are roughly the same as the number of people looking for jobs--and if it does not show that, then concerns about a more hawkish-for-longer Fed will rise, and that's not good for stocks," wrote Essaye in a note on Thursday.

'Too Hot'

According to Essaye, if the employment results come in "too hot" with nonfarm payrolls rising more than 350,000 for the month and the unemployment rate falling below 3.5%, stocks would drop sharply in what might be a "less-intense repeat" of last Friday, as markets price in higher interest rates for longer.

U.S. stocks tumbled last Friday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing down more than 1,000 points for its worst daily percentage drop in three months, after Chair Powell said in his Jackson Hole address that the central bank will continue its battle to get the annual inflation rate back to its 2% target "until the job is done".

"Numbers this strong would underscore that the labor market remains out of balance, and that would keep the Fed focused on slowing demand via higher rates," said Essaye. "Practically, this would increase the chances the 'terminal' fed funds rate moves above 4% and hopes for a rate cut in 2023 would likely be dashed."

He expects the yield-curve spread between the 10-year and 2-year Treasurys to rise as the 2-year yield shoots higher on the prospect of higher rates, while the 10-year yield would also likely rise, but less so.

The 2-year Treasury yield hit a fresh 15-year high at 3.528% on Thursday, while the 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 3.266%, its highest level since late June.

'Just Right'

However, if job growth falls in a range of zero to 300,000 while the unemployment rate rises above 3.7%, the stock market may expect a modest rally given the drop in stocks over the past five days, according to Essaye.

U.S. stocks were mixed in late trade on Thursday.
