However, there are a number of other EV stocks lurking on Wall Street looking to dethrone chief executive officer Elon Musk and his empire.Of course, Tesla just opened a brand new manufacturing plant outside of Berlin, Germany that will employ 12,000 people and produce 500,000 vehicles per year going forward. In turn, the firm hopes to produce 20 million EVs per year by 2030. Furthermore, the German plant opened just after the company announced that it has received approval to expand its existing plant in Shanghai, China. Moreover, it was recently reported that Tesla is exploring a possible stock split, as well as a special dividend to shareholders. In other words, Tesla is firing on all cylinders — and that continues to be good news for shareholders. Specifically, TSLA stock is up 40% over the past six months — including a 24% gain in the last month. However, as successful as Elon Musk and Tesla have been, there are numerous EV firms nipping at Tesla’s heels looking to take market share from the company. So, with that in mind, here are three up-and-coming EV stocks that I think could topple Tesla.Lucid MotorsRivianNioNow, let’s dive in and take a closer look at each one.EV Stocks to Watch: Lucid MotorsSource: gg5795 / Shutterstock.comThe company that is most often mentioned as the one that could dethrone Tesla is Newark, California-based Lucid Motors. The company is run by CEO Peter Rawlinson, who previously worked at Tesla. That said, Lucid is competing directly against Tesla in the market for luxury EVs, and it already boasts a superior battery to the ones used by Tesla. In fact, Lucid’s first electric vehicle — the Lucid Air — has an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certifieddriving range of 517 miles. That is 20% more than the Tesla Model S Plaid. And it was one of the reasons the Lucid Air was namedMotor Trend’s 2022 Car of the Year.Of course, Lucid Air has a long way to go to catch Tesla in terms of production. The Lucid Air sedan only began production last fall, and the company forecasts that it will produce between12,000 and 14,000 vehicles this year compared to1.4 million expected to roll off the assembly lines at Tesla. However, Lucid is ramping up its production aggressively, forecasting that it will manufacture 50,000 vehicles by the end of 2023.Furthermore, Lucid’s innovation is top tier as well. The company is bringing an electric SUV to market in 2024 called the Lucid Gravity, and its battery pack offers the fastest charging times of any EV company with the ability to recharge a depleted battery to 90% within 46 minutes. So, with all of this combined, LCID stock is one of the top EV stocks to watch moving forward.RivianSource: Michael Vi / ShutterstockIn many ways, Rivian is already ahead of Tesla. Last September, the company became the first EV maker to bring a fully electric pick-up truck to market. In fact, the company’s R1T truck beat Tesla’s Cybertruck to market, as well as planned pick-ups from both General Motors(GM) and Ford(F).Early reviews of the R1T electric truck have verged on ecstatic, with Motor Trend naming it the2021 Truck of the Year. And at the end of last year, Rivian reported that it had more than70,000 pre-ordersfor its R1T truck. Additionally, the company already has production facilities around the world, and has plans to build a brand new$5 billion production center in Georgia.Overall, the success Rivian has experienced with its R1T truck helped the company to raise $13.5 billion in what was one of the biggest initial public offerings (IPOs) of last year. RIVN stock skyrocketed on its market debut, rising as high as $179.47 a share on investor euphoria before pulling back to its current, more moderate level of right around $50 per share. In addition to sales of its R1T pick-up truck, Rivian also has a lucrative arrangement to supply e-commerce giant Amazon(AMZN) with100,000 electric delivery vans. The Amazon arrangement has also inspired confidence in Rivian and its future ability to compete against Tesla and other established automakers. And while management has madea few missteps in recent months, the long-term prospects for Rivian and RIVN stock remain largely positive.EV Stocks to Watch: NioSource: Sundry Photography / Shutterstock.comNio is often referred to as the “Tesla of China,” and one of the leading candidates to supplant Elon Musk’s company not only in the Chinese market, but around the world.Nio is making strides in that direction, expanding sales of its electric sedan to Europe late last year with plans to be operating in25 foreign markets, including the U.S., by 2025. At home in China, Nio continues tobeat its own production targets, most recently announcing that itdelivered 6,131 vehiclesin February, a 10% year-over-year (YOY) increase. In turn, this brings its cumulative deliveries for 2022 across all of its EVs to 182,853.Furthermore, Nio has began the production of its new ET7, an electric sedan that boasts a 1,000-kilometer driving range on a single battery charge, besting the driving range of all other EVs — even the Lucid Air sedan.Collectively, Nio stock has been beaten down in recent months, having dropped 33.5% year-to-date (YTD) to $21.06. However, NIO stock got a boost recently after it was announced that the company would pursue asecondary listingon the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. And, Nio is also pioneering a successful“Battery as a Service”model where customers pay a monthly fee to swap depleted electric vehicle batteries for fully charged ones, cutting down on costs for at-home charging stations. So while shares may be down, that just makes NIO stock one of the top EV stocks for investors to keep their eye on.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"RIVN":0.9,"NIO":0.9,"LCID":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":652,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9042731609,"gmtCreate":1656532058301,"gmtModify":1676535845779,"author":{"id":"4111097445812502","authorId":"4111097445812502","name":"Aotearoa Moa","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/a228aa98ede7843fbb0bc1bd3497447d","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4111097445812502","idStr":"4111097445812502"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"<a href=\"https://ttm.financial/S/RKLB\">$Rocket Lab USA, Inc.(RKLB)$</a>Rocket Lab is falling. Many investors are worried that the combination of rampant inflation, geopolitical conflict, and rising interest rates will cause a significant pullback in spending. In turn, that would negatively affect corporate revenue and profits. So to minimize near-term risk, many investors have been selling stocks, especially richly-valued growth stocks. However, some analysts think that selling is overdone. For instance, Daniel Kurnos of investment banking firm Benchmark has a price target of $305 on Roku, implying 166% upside from its current price. Similarly, JMP Securities analyst Devin Ryan has a price target of $394 on Coinbase Global, implying 145% upside from its current price.Given those analysts' bullish outlooks, let's take a closer look at both stocks.Image source: Getty Images.1. RokuFor millions of people, Roku has become the gateway to streaming entertainment. In fact, its platform powered nearly 32% of \"big screen\" (or television) viewing time last year, up 70 basis points from 2020. Meanwhile, second-place rival Amazon Fire TV captured just 16.5% market share, down 270 basis points from the prior year. Put another way, Roku is becoming more dominant, while its closest competitor is losing ground. What's driving that success? Management points to its operating system. Roku OS is the only operating system purpose-built for TV. Competing solutions like Amazon's Fire OS are modified versions of a mobile operating system. Roku believes its purpose-built approach creates a better viewing experience. CEO Anthony Wood recently said, \"If you look at the history of computing platforms [...] purpose-built operating systems traditionally have always won in terms of market share.\"In addition, Roku has also been investing in its ad-supported streaming service, The Roku Channel. It released more than 50 original titles in 2021, including its first feature-length film. With that strategy, Roku aims to drive viewer engagement (and ad spend) by further differentiating its platform. The early results are promising. In 2021, half of the top 10 titles on The Roku Channel were Roku Originals, and The Roku Channel itself ranked among the top five channels on the platform in the third and fourth quarters. In turn, monetized ad impressions on Roku's platform nearly doubled in 2021, which translated into strong financial results. Revenue soared 55% to $2.8 billion last year, and the company generated $188 million in free cash flow, up nearly threefold from $66 million in 2020. But shareholders have good reason to believe Roku can maintain that momentum. For many people, streaming media is already the go-to option for home entertainment, but ad budgets are still playing catch-up. Case in point: Connected TV (CTV) ad spend totaled $13.4 billion in the U.S. last year, but marketers spent $65.9 billion, nearly five times as much, on linear TV ads, according to eMarketer. As ad budgets continue to follow viewers to CTV, Roku should benefit. From that perspective, this growth stock could certainly generate 166% returns in the near term, but Roku is better viewed as a long-term investment.2. Coinbase GlobalCoinbase is the largest U.S. cryptocurrency exchange. Its platform offers a range of services to retail traders and institutional investors, helping them securely buy, sell, spend, store, and stake crypto assets. The company has achieved significant scale as it currently holds a market-leading 11.5% of all crypto assets on its platform. That creates a deep pool of liquidity that Coinbase can use to fund growth initiatives like its soon-to-launch non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace.More broadly, the Coinbase brand inspires trust, and for many investors, it has become synonymous with cryptocurrency. That has led to strong financial results. In 2021, Coinbase saw its number of monthly transacting users grow fourfold to 11.4 million, and trading volume rose more than eightfold to $1.7 trillion. In turn, revenue skyrocketed 514% to $7.8 billion, and GAAP earnings grew more than tenfold to $14.50 per diluted share.Looking ahead, Coinbase is well positioned to maintain that momentum. Cryptocurrencies are nothing if not volatile, and the company benefits from that volatility. Most of its revenue is generated through transaction fees. In other words, the more people trade, the more money Coinbase makes. And the crypto market has crashed twice in the past 12 months, meaning a lot of cryptocurrency was being bought and sold.In addition, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong believes the coming NFT marketplace could be bigger than its current cryptocurrency business. From that perspective, the analyst's price target of $394 seems entirely plausible. In a nutshell: The Federal Reserve is going to make a serious effort to fight inflation, and higher benchmark interest rates are on the way. That's putting the present values of stocks under pressure. However, despite the volatility, businesses that have the ability to raise their prices with limited consequences in an inflationary environment should still do exceptionally well. Three Fool.com contributors think Disney, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, and American Tower fit that description, and view them as quality names worth a look for investors now.Image source: Getty Images.A premier company in entertainment -- and entertainment technologyNicholas Rossolillo (Disney): Inflation is blasting consumers these days, but it's been a problem for entertainment businesses for years. With the rapid growth of new streaming services, there's been an explosion in demand for new films and TV series. Add in supply chain issues, and one can understand why entertainment production costs have been skyrocketing at double-digit percentage paces annually. However, I believe Disney has pricing power in this space. Disney+ is a fantastic product. For fans of Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and more, the company's marquee streaming service is the home of the latest and greatest content. Even if Disney boosts the monthly subscription price, I don't see many viewers getting upset enough to cancel. But there's an additional advantage in play here. Disney's technology should help it keep content creation costs in check. For example, when Mickey and Co. acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, it got more than just the Star Wars franchise. It also got cinematography tech assets like Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). One innovation that has come out of ILM in recent years is StageCraft, visual effects technology that uses walls of LED TV screens for on-set production. Basically, there's no need to send an entire cast and crew to exotic locales for filming anymore, thanks to those mega-sized screens. And multiple \"sets\" can be quickly changed out on the same day. ILM StageCraft has been used on Disney TV shows and movies, as well as for commercials and music videos.Disney's vertical integration will work wonders for it if the cost of doing business rises significantly due to inflation. The company owns the whole pipeline of entertainment production, from technology to popular franchises to distribution channels. All told, while Disney continues to rebound from the effects of the pandemic, it boasts a fantastic business model that's built to withstand all sorts of stresses. I expect Disney will grow its revenue at a modest pace in the coming years, but anticipate its profitability will balloon as Disney+ makes progress toward breakeven -- a milestone it's expected to hit in the company's fiscal 2024.Disney stock currently trades for 23 times forward earnings. With the stock down by some 30% over the last year, I'm a buyer at these levels. The world's most essential chip producer is already raising prices Billy Duberstein (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing): When looking for stocks that can beat inflation, look for companies that provide unique, essential services, and can also raise their prices if necessary.Taiwan Semiconductor is the world's largest semiconductor foundry, and has a lead over competitors in producing leading-edge semiconductors. If you're Apple or Nvidia and need the most advanced process technology, you need to go with Taiwan Semi -- at least for the foreseeable future. Rivals Samsung and Intel are attempting to catch up, but that process could take years, if they are able to at all.Since there's still a semiconductor shortage, and also a scarcity of materials such as silicon wafers, Taiwan Semi is raising its prices. The company actually started that process in August, boosting prices on leading-edge semiconductors by 10% and lagging-edge mature nodes by 15% to 20%. While there are shortages of all types of chips, it's actually the ones manufactured with older processes -- which are widely used in autos and Internet of Things applications -- that have been experiencing the biggest shortfalls. And just last month, it was reported Taiwan Semi would be raising prices for lagging-edge chips by another 10% to 20% in the third quarter of this year. The price increases announced in August took effect in the first quarter of 2022, so they should lead to stronger results when Taiwan Semi reports on the quarter on April 14. Since Taiwan Semi also regularly reports its monthly revenues, we already know sales grew by 35.8% year over year in January and 37.9% in February. Expect strong revenue growth this quarter, and for Taiwan Semi to hike its 2% dividend in line with revenue and earnings growth later this year. All in all, demand for semiconductors should continue to increase even if the economy slows down. That's because the growing AI, the Internet of Things, 5G, and cloud computing markets all need more semiconductors. Since it can raise prices to keep up with inflation without fear of losing sales, Taiwan Semi is a stock to buy with confidence amid the tech sector pullback. The complete packageAnders Bylund (American Tower): For a company to be a reliable hedge against inflation, it should come with a few specific qualities. It needs to have staying power for the long run, offering products or services that will be in high demand for decades. The stock should be positioned to beat the broader market, either due to a low buy-in price or a history of upward momentum. The stock should offer a dividend with a meaningful yield.Cell tower manager American Tower checks all of these boxes. It leases out space on cell towers and other wireless network hubs to telecoms around the world. Yes, around the world -- the company name is a bit misleading. Half of American Tower's 2021 revenues came from international assets, and the company's fastest-growing markets are in Africa and Latin America. As long as people need wireless networks, American Tower will be in business. The stock isn't exactly cheap, trading at 47 times earnings and 13 times sales. You get what you pay for, though -- a high-quality business with industry-leading scale, financial growth, and profit margins. Meanwhile, the stock is down more than 9% year to date in 2022. There should be a serious rebound somewhere in this stock's near future. And then there's the dividend. As a real estate investment trust (REIT), American Tower is obligated to pay out at least 90% of its taxable income every year in the form of dividends. Otherwise, it would lose the tax benefits that come with its REIT status. As such, you can rest assured that American Tower will keep those payouts coming. At today's share prices, it's delivering an effective yield of 2.1%.Taken together, American Tower's fantastic long-term growth prospects plus a modest dividend bonus should add up to shareholder returns that far outpace inflation.
