Plus, banks can invest their excess cash by buying Treasury bills, and they are doing so. The one-month yield on Treasury bills is currently 4.16%, but these securities are less liquid than reserves; They have to be sold to be turned into cash, while a reserve account acts like a savings account that banks can withdraw directly.</p><p>Banks are on their own balance sheets, and banks don't call these reserves \"reserves\".
