looks bleak for these cryptocurrencies.","content":"

The bankruptcy of FTX and rapid drop in the FTX Token has caused a lot of investors to rethink the value in these cryptocurrencies. In particular, project, exchange, and meme tokens should be questioned more than ever.

Three that I think should be avoided at all costs right now are ApeCoin, BNB, and Dogecoin.

ApeCoin's questionable use cases

The launch of ApeCoin was one of the strangest in 2022. Yuga Labs, which launched the Bored Ape Yacht Club and related non-fungible tokens (NFTs), was not technically involved in the token's launch, but it was given 16% of the tokens at launch and the four Yuga Labs founders were given 8% of the tokens. Launch contributors were given another 14%.

The remaining 62% of ApeCoin supply was, or will be, claimable by some NFT owners. These are the tokens being traded today. The intention long term is that the ApeCoin will be used in the Bored Ape Yacht Club's metaverse game, but there's currently no game and no launch date.

What we don't know is what value the token has or why it deserves to have a $3.1 billion fully diluted market capitalization. Proponents might claim value in a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) or staking, but these have never proven to deliver long-term value to investors.

Someday, Yuga Labs could provide a use case for the token that provides real value, but until it does, investors should be skeptical. The reality is that no one knows if Bored Apes or their game will have any value a year from now, and I think the token will be far less valuable than it is today.

BNB is another exchange token

The Binance Coin has a total value of $51.3 billion and has limited uses. According to the token's site, you can "use BNB to pay for goods and services, settle transaction fees on Binance Smart Chain, participate in exclusive token sales and more."

There's also a BNB Chain ecosystem, which gives the token more utility. But this is ultimately a token tied to Binance's exchange business, and we saw how that ended with FTX. Binance doesn't have publicly available financials and operates outside of U.S. securities laws, so investors should be skeptical.

The reality of the BNB token is that it's reliant on a single company -- Binance -- to generate value. This is a single point of failure that hasn't worked out well for the FTX, Celsius, and Voyager tokens that have all collapsed in value in large part because their creators went into bankruptcy. I'm not calling for Binance's bankruptcy, but taking a risk on a token tied to one company isn't wise after how we've seen similar tokens collapse in value.

Dogecoin's meme status might end

The Dogecoin community leans into the fact that this was a joke token to begin with. But investing your money is no joke.

It's true that Dogecoin has been accepted as payment in some forums, but it's not taken as seriously by businesses as a stablecoin or even Ethereum or Polygon would be.

I think the problem today is that meme coins are going to be taken even less seriously in the future. Real businesses will move in and use the blockchain, but they'll want to be taken seriously with tokens like Ethereum or stablecoins, not a meme with a dog image.

The rise of Dogecoin was a by-product of the bull market in crypto. That bull market has come to a crashing end, and I think meme coins like Dogecoin will go with it.

Stick to the best of the best

The future of cryptocurrency is uncertain, but I think investors would be wise to stick with the highest quality and most widely used tokens available. Ethereum and Solana have two of the biggest development communities, and they would be better picks. Right now, being cautious is a wise approach, and one should stay out of tokens that have little to no use cases today.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Cryptos to Avoid No Matter What
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Cryptos to Avoid No Matter What\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-11-25 15:05 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The bankruptcy of FTX and rapid drop in the FTX Token has caused a lot of investors to rethink the value in these cryptocurrencies. The move showed that the central bank is deadly serious about taking on the stubbornly high inflation that has been plaguing the economy since the middle of 2021.The Fed’s turn toward an aggressive anti-inflationary policy may not be hard enough, however, as the September data, released this morning, showed the headline consumer price index (CPI) at an annualized rate of 8.2%, slightly lower than August’s 8.3%, but slightly higher than the 8.1% which had been forecast. There’s no good news here, and we should expect the Fed to take further aggressive rate hiking action at the next FOMC meeting on November 1 and 2.After the data release, the 2-year Treasury bond yield jumped by 16 basis points and hit 4.45%, and the 10-year note once again moved above 4%. These moves portend a shift by investors from stocks toward bonds, to lock in higher yields. For investors still intent on sticking with stocks, the logical move is find a defensive play that will provide some protection against inflation. Dividend stocks, especially the high-yield payers, are the ‘standard’ move in the defensive playbook, and we’ve used the TipRanks data to look up two that offer yields high enough to give some insulation against inflation. And even better, they both have a ‘Strong Buy’ consensus rating from the wider analyst community. Let’s take a closer look.Alpine Income Property Trust (PINE)The first high-yield div payer we’ll look at is Alpine Income Property Trust, a commercial net lease REIT with a focus on retail properties. Alpine’s portfolio is composed of open-air strip malls and stand-alone retail locations, spread across 35 states. The company is headquartered in Florida, where it has 4 properties; the state with the largest number of Alpine properties is Texas, with 25, while Ohio and New York tie for second place, each with 12 properties.Alpine has a total of 143 properties in its portfolio, a combined 3.3 million square feet of leasable space. The company boasts, justifiably, that it has a 100% occupancy rate. Revenues and earnings have been strong over the past two years, with consistent sequential gains at the top line.Alpine saw revenues of $11.3 million in 2Q22, the last quarter reported. Earnings spiked in that quarter, to $14.3 million, after coming in at just $304K one year earlier. Alpine had a diluted EPS of $1.05 in 2Q22. Of particular interest to dividend investors, Alpine reported an adjusted funds from operations (AFFO) of $0.47 for 2Q, a 20% increase year-over-year, and more than enough to fully cover the regular stock dividend. That dividend deserved a closer look. The most recent declaration, made in August, was for 27.5 cents per common share, a modest bump of 1.9% from the previous quarter – but the sixth dividend increase in the past three years. Alpine’s current common share dividend annualizes to $1.10 and gives a yield of 7%, more than triple the average dividend yield in the broader markets, and high enough to be useful as insulation against current inflation. In the eyes of Raymond James analyst RJ Milligan, who holds a 5-star ranking from TipRanks, all of this adds up to a company in a very solid position.“Investors continue to build positions in more defensive sectors (including net-lease) given concerns about a coming recession, which has helped drive the net lease sector’s YTD outperformance despite spiking rates and high inflation. We expect PINE will continue to benefit from this rotation given its high quality portfolio, discounted valuation, and well-covered dividend,” Milligan opined.Following from this upbeat stance, Milligan rates PINE shares an Outperform (i.e. Buy), and his price target of $23 implies a one-year upside potential of 44%.While this commercial REIT has only picked up 5 recent analyst reviews, those were all positive, testifying to PINE’s underlying strength and attractive qualities – and giving the stock a unanimous Strong Buy consensus rating. The shares are selling for $15.87 and their average price target of $21.25 indicates a potential gain of 33% in the next 12 months.CTO Realty Growth (CTO)Let’s stick with REITs, a sector known for its dividend champs. CTO Realty Growth is another commercial REIT with income-generating shopping mall and retail investments in 9 states. CTO has 6 properties in its home state of Florida, and 3 each in Georgia and Texas. The bulk of CTO’s assets are in the coastal Southeast or the Southwest, but the company does have a 15% ownership interest in Alpine, the stock discussed above. In recent weeks, CTO has announced two important developments that have enhanced the company’s liquidity. First was the September 21 notice that the firm had expanded its credit facility to $565 million, and that was followed on September 26 by the announcement that the company had sold off three properties in Jacksonville, Florida for a total of $34.9 million.Earlier in the summer, CTO reported its results for 2Q22, with fund from operations (FFO) coming in at $1.41 per share for the quarter, up 60% year-over-year, and adjusted FFO growing 38% to reach $1.48 per common share. These results were more than enough to support the dividend, which was declared for Q3 on August 22 and paid out on September 30. The Q3 dividend was raised by a modest 1.8% and paid out at 38 cents per common share. The dividend’s annualized rate of $1.52 gives a yield of 8.6%, which is higher than current inflation numbers and ensures a real rate of return for investors.AnalystRobert Stevenson, watching this stock for investment firm Janney Montgomery, is unabashedly bullish on CTO. He says of the company, “Our continued positive view on the stock is based on the company’s assets, high dividend yield, and ability to continue to grow earnings and dividends for shareholders… CTO is one of our favorite yield names within our REIT coverage universe.”Factoring in a discounted valuation and attractive growth potential, Stevenson rates CTO a Buy, along with a price target of $25. If his price target is achieved, investors could realize a potential total return of ~44%There are 4 recent analyst reviews on file for CTO and they are unanimously positive, to give the stock its Strong Buy analyst consensus rating. The shares are priced at $17.54 and their $25 average target matches Stevenson’s 42% upside forecast.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":537,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9980315466,"gmtCreate":1665650029255,"gmtModify":1676537642834,"author":{"id":"4126580484917442","authorId":"4126580484917442","name":"Mike Owen","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aca319dd0911e89355fa97a5e384d9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4126580484917442","authorIdStr":"4126580484917442"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good ","listText":"Good ","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9980315466","repostId":"1187146611","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1187146611","pubTimestamp":1665674581,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1187146611?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-13 23:23","market":"other","language":"en","title":"5 Cryptos to Sell Now Before They Crash","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1187146611","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"These seven tokens all make the list of cryptos to sell, for those focused on quality.Shiba Inu (SHI","content":"

These seven tokens all make the list of cryptos to sell, for those focused on quality.

Shiba Inu (SHIB): 2021 was a big year for Shiba Inu, but that ship has long sailed.

ApeCoin (APE): A spike in exchange supply pushing selling activity higher.

The Sandbox (SAND): Both user interest and transactions are dropping.

Dogecoin (DOGE): Valuations and bad media don’t look good for this coin.

Bitcoin Cash (BCH): Only a miracle can help BCH recover from its crash in May.

There’s a time to buy high-flying momentum-driven cryptocurrencies, but right now, you should be looking at which cryptos to sell.

During the bull market, nearly any investor who threw money at any digital currency saw outsized returns. However, today, most investors are focused on putting together a list of cryptos to sell.

After all, we’re in the midst of a bear market in crypto assets. And this bear market could get much worse.

This “crypto winter,” as many in the community call this bear market, has been vicious. The total market capitalization of all digital currencies has dropped to around $920 million at the time of writing.

Previously, this sector peaked at around $3 trillion nearly one year ago.

For those looking to upgrade their portfolio in terms of quality, here are five cryptos to sell right now.

Shiba Inu (SHIB-USD)

One of the hottest trending cryptos of last year, Shiba Inu(SHIB-USD) is a token many may be well aware of. This token surged millions of percent in a matter of months during 2021, making investors who put up relatively small amounts of money very rich in a short amount of time.

As it is with these get-rich-quick schemes, what goes up often comes down just as fast. This certainly appears to be the case for Shiba Inu, which has lost more than 90% of its value from its peak last year.

Like other meme tokens on this list, there’s really not a lot under the hood when looking at Shiba Inu. This is a token that appears more gimmicky than substantial. With little in the way of fundamentals to value this token, it’s unclear just how low SHIB can go.

The selling may be far from over in the crypto market. Accordingly, for those looking to protect capital, this is one of the cryptos to sell right now.

ApeCoin (APE-USD)

Another meme token many have watched closely this year is ApeCoin(APE-USD). This meme token is one of the newest of the bunch, having been launched in March of this year.

Since its launch at $1 per token, APE then soared to nearly $40 in short order. Much of this has to do with the crypto’s ties to the Bored Ape Yacht Club, makers of popular NFTs which remain very highly valued (though less so than at their peak).

Today, this token still hovers above the $5 level, an impressive feat for early investors. This token has still managed to provide 400% returns for early investors. Thus, it’s one many may say is among the more stable meme tokens out there.

Perhaps. That said, NFT demand in terms of volume and transaction size isn’t looking as healthy as they once were. As less capital flows to more speculative assets, I think the NFT space is one investors need to be careful of.

Maybe there’s something behind ApeCoin that’s worth a long-term bet for investors who don’t mind near-term volatility. For everyone else, this is one of the cryptos to sell, at least in my books.

The Sandbox (SAND-USD)

There are certainly reasons why many investors continue to be bullish on The Sandbox(SAND-USD). Indeed, I’ve touted the potential benefit of this token for aggressive investors in the past.

However, this metaverse-related crypto project is one that’s become divisive. That’s because there’s a growing debate around the real utility generated by these blockchain-based virtual worlds.

This crypto has been dropping despite making serious efforts to boost its value. The Sandbox recently announced a partnership with football star Kun Aguero.

It plans to launch the Kuniverse in the first week of November, but that hasn’t helped its price, with SAND continuing lower, and question of how low this token can go taking center stage. Right now, I don’t think this is a token that’s worth the risk in this market.

Dogecoin (DOGE-USD)

Yet another meme token on this list, Dogecoin(DOGE-USD) is perhaps the father of them all.

A token inspired by a Shiba Inu dog (which has clearly inspired future iterations of this in the form of Shiba Inu and others), Dogecoin’s rise to fame has largely been associated with the token’s self-proclaimed “Dogefather,” Elon Musk.

Cryptic tweets from Elon Musk isn’t necessarily the fundamental catalyst many investors are looking for. Thus, in the eyes of many investors, this is clearly one of the top cryptos to sell. I happen to broadly share this view.

The project’s founders previously cashed out a long time ago, citing speculative rises that didn’t make sense then. If they didn’t make sense before, they probably didn’t make sense last year. Thus, this is a token with a floor that many can’t see right now. That’s a scary thing.

Bitcoin Cash (BCH)

Rounding out our list of cryptos to sell is Bitcoin Cash(BCH-USD).

This token is the direct result of a hard fork in the Bitcoin(BTC-USD) blockchain. Thus, as one of the oldest fork-related chains out there, Bitcoin Cash is a token that many have watched for some time.

The utility this project creates is centered on using Bitcoin for actual transactions in the real world, with business adoption being a key metric to watch.

Recently, BCH has been witnessing outflows mostly tied to ongoing macro concerns and the broader market selloff. However, should Bitcoin continue to remain dominant, it’s unclear just how much value will be reflected in Bitcoin Cash, particularly if this gap widens.

For these reasons, this token is one I think remains one of the cryptos to sell for investors looking to de-risk their portfolios right now.

","source":"investorplace","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
5 Cryptos to Sell Now Before They Crash
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n5 Cryptos to Sell Now Before They Crash\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-10-13 23:23 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
These seven tokens all make the list of cryptos to sell, for those focused on quality.Shiba Inu (SHIB): 2021 was a big year for Shiba Inu, but that ship has long sailed.ApeCoin (APE): A spike in ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/cryptos-to-sell/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1187146611","content_text":"These seven tokens all make the list of cryptos to sell, for those focused on quality.Shiba Inu (SHIB): 2021 was a big year for Shiba Inu, but that ship has long sailed.ApeCoin (APE): A spike in exchange supply pushing selling activity higher. The Sandbox (SAND): Both user interest and transactions are dropping.Dogecoin (DOGE): Valuations and bad media don’t look good for this coin.Bitcoin Cash (BCH): Only a miracle can help BCH recover from its crash in May.There’s a time to buy high-flying momentum-driven cryptocurrencies, but right now, you should be looking at which cryptos to sell.During the bull market, nearly any investor who threw money at any digital currency saw outsized returns. The total market capitalization of all digital currencies has dropped to around $920 million at the time of writing.Previously, this sector peaked at around $3 trillion nearly one year ago.For those looking to upgrade their portfolio in terms of quality, here are five cryptos to sell right now.Shiba Inu (SHIB-USD)One of the hottest trending cryptos of last year, Shiba Inu(SHIB-USD) is a token many may be well aware of. This token surged millions of percent in a matter of months during 2021, making investors who put up relatively small amounts of money very rich in a short amount of time.As it is with these get-rich-quick schemes, what goes up often comes down just as fast. This certainly appears to be the case for Shiba Inu, which has lost more than 90% of its value from its peak last year.Like other meme tokens on this list, there’s really not a lot under the hood when looking at Shiba Inu. This is a token that appears more gimmicky than substantial. With little in the way of fundamentals to value this token, it’s unclear just how low SHIB can go.The selling may be far from over in the crypto market. Accordingly, for those looking to protect capital, this is one of the cryptos to sell right now.ApeCoin (APE-USD)Another meme token many have watched closely this year is ApeCoin(APE-USD). This meme token is one of the newest of the bunch, having been launched in March of this year.Since its launch at $1 per token, APE then soared to nearly $40 in short order. Much of this has to do with the crypto’s ties to the Bored Ape Yacht Club, makers of popular NFTs which remain very highly valued (though less so than at their peak).Today, this token still hovers above the $5 level, an impressive feat for early investors. This token has still managed to provide 400% returns for early investors. Thus, it’s one many may say is among the more stable meme tokens out there.Perhaps. That said, NFT demand in terms of volume and transaction size isn’t looking as healthy as they once were. As less capital flows to more speculative assets, I think the NFT space is one investors need to be careful of.Maybe there’s something behind ApeCoin that’s worth a long-term bet for investors who don’t mind near-term volatility. For everyone else, this is one of the cryptos to sell, at least in my books. The Sandbox (SAND-USD)There are certainly reasons why many investors continue to be bullish on The Sandbox(SAND-USD). Right now, I don’t think this is a token that’s worth the risk in this market.Dogecoin (DOGE-USD)Yet another meme token on this list, Dogecoin(DOGE-USD) is perhaps the father of them all.A token inspired by a Shiba Inu dog (which has clearly inspired future iterations of this in the form of Shiba Inu and others), Dogecoin’s rise to fame has largely been associated with the token’s self-proclaimed “Dogefather,” Elon Musk.Cryptic tweets from Elon Musk isn’t necessarily the fundamental catalyst many investors are looking for. That’s a scary thing.Bitcoin Cash (BCH)Rounding out our list of cryptos to sell is Bitcoin Cash(BCH-USD).This token is the direct result of a hard fork in the Bitcoin(BTC-USD) blockchain. Thus, as one of the oldest fork-related chains out there, Bitcoin Cash is a token that many have watched for some time. The utility this project creates is centered on using Bitcoin for actual transactions in the real world, with business adoption being a key metric to watch.Recently, BCH has been witnessing outflows mostly tied to ongoing macro concerns and the broader market selloff. However, should Bitcoin continue to remain dominant, it’s unclear just how much value will be reflected in Bitcoin Cash, particularly if this gap widens. For these reasons, this token is one I think remains one of the cryptos to sell for investors looking to de-risk their portfolios right now.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":427,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9917810153,"gmtCreate":1665468387373,"gmtModify":1676537612098,"author":{"id":"4126580484917442","authorId":"4126580484917442","name":"Mike Owen","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aca319dd0911e89355fa97a5e384d9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4126580484917442","authorIdStr":"4126580484917442"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Thanks ","listText":"Thanks ","text":"Thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9917810153","repostId":"2274556952","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":593,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9917313069,"gmtCreate":1665442162053,"gmtModify":1676537604923,"author":{"id":"4126580484917442","authorId":"4126580484917442","name":"Mike Owen","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aca319dd0911e89355fa97a5e384d9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4126580484917442","authorIdStr":"4126580484917442"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good ","listText":"Good ","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9917313069","repostId":"2274565538","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":385,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9917319829,"gmtCreate":1665442132561,"gmtModify":1676537604908,"author":{"id":"4126580484917442","authorId":"4126580484917442","name":"Mike Owen","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aca319dd0911e89355fa97a5e384d9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4126580484917442","authorIdStr":"4126580484917442"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9917319829","repostId":"1197770679","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":362,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9917332087,"gmtCreate":1665441414749,"gmtModify":1676537604745,"author":{"id":"4126580484917442","authorId":"4126580484917442","name":"Mike Owen","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aca319dd0911e89355fa97a5e384d9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4126580484917442","authorIdStr":"4126580484917442"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Thanks","listText":"Thanks","text":"Thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9917332087","repostId":"2274215568","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2274215568","pubTimestamp":1665407157,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2274215568?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-10 21:05","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Down 30% in 2022, Is Target Stock a Buy?","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2274215568","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Can this resilient retailer overcome its near-term headwinds?","content":"

Target was once considered a stable blue chip stock for conservative investors. It then leveraged that massive network of stores -- which are located within 10 miles of most customers in America -- to fulfill its online orders, same-day deliveries, and in-store pickups. That strategy enabled it to keep pace with Amazon without making massive logistics investments.

Why did Target lose its footing this year?

However, Target's growth throughout the pandemic, which was partly boosted by stimulus-induced spending, set it up for tough post-pandemic comparisons. That slowdown was already challenging, but inflationary headwinds and supply chain challenges exacerbated that pressure over the past year.

Inflation hurt Target in three ways: It throttled consumer spending on discretionary products, boosted the company's freight costs, and pressured it to raise wages. But total sales only increased 4% year over year to $50.5 billion in the first half of the year, driven by 3.3% and 2.6% comps growth in its first and second quarters, respectively. The company expects total revenue to only rise by the low- to mid-single digits for the full year, compared to its 13% growth in fiscal 2021.

It's a red flag if a retailer's inventories are rising faster than its sales. To restore that balance, Target must flush out its unwanted inventories with margin-crushing markdowns. That's why its gross margin shrank 670 basis points year over year to 23.5% in the first half of fiscal 2022 as its operating margin declined 650 basis points to 3.3%. It expects operating margin to stabilize and end the year at around 6% -- but that would still represent a 240 basis-point drop from 2021.

Based on these downbeat expectations, analysts believe Target's revenue will increase just 4% for the full year as its adjusted earnings plunge 41%. But next year, they expect the company's revenue and adjusted earnings to grow 4% and 48%, respectively, as it overcomes inventory problems.

Is Target too cheap to ignore?

Target isn't in the same sinking boat as struggling retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond or Kohl's. Its comps are still rising, it's firmly profitable, and it can easily cover its dividend. But its valuation also got a bit ahead of its growth rates last year, and the company couldn't live up to those expectations as growth cooled off this year.

But after that pullback, Target's stock now looks cheap at 13 times forward earnings, and it pays a forward dividend yield of 2.8%. Walmart -- which faces many of the same near-term inventory challenges as Target -- trades at 20 times forward earnings and pays a much lower forward yield of 1.7%.

Target is still a retail survivor, and I believe its growth will stabilize over the long term as it moves past all the near-term lumpiness from the pandemic, stimulus checks, supply chain issues, and inflation. Stocks still generally closed out the week higher. The "three stocks to avoid" in my column last week that I thought were going to lose to the market -- Apple, Conagra Brands, and Gold Fields -- rose 1.3%%, 0.7%, and 5.9%, respectively, averaging out to a 2.6% uptick.

The S&P 500 experienced a 1.5% move lower, better than two of the three stocks but still short of the overall return. I was wrong. I have, though, been right in 32 of the past 51 weeks, or 63% of the time.

Now let's look at the week ahead. I see Walgreens Boots Alliance, Blue Apron, and, again, Gold Fields as stocks you might want to consider steering clear of this week. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.

1. Walgreens Boots Alliance

It isn't easy being a drugstore operator these days. New platforms are upending and undercutting the way we fulfill prescriptions. E-commerce and third-party delivery apps are eating away at the need to drive to a drugstore for stocked essentials. It's against this grim backdrop that Walgreens Boots Alliance will step up to deliver financial results this week for the quarter that ended in August.

On the surface it may seem insane to bet against Walgreens Boots Alliance at this point. The stock hit a new 10-year low on Friday, and it's now trading for just five times trailing earnings. The stock is yielding a record high of 6.2%. This could make it a magnet for income-chasing value investors, but you may want to wait until it announces its quarterly results this week. Analysts see revenue and earnings per share declining 6% and 34%, respectively.

Analysts see revenue recovering next year, but Wall Street's eyeing just 1% growth. The bottom line is expected to keep shrinking, and it's easy to see why. This is a highly leveraged company. Having more than $38 billion in debt is a bad look heading into a time where refinancing rates are skyrocketing. Walgreens Boots Alliance may seem like a smart idea at five times trailing earnings, but would you say the same if I told you that it's fetching seven times forward earnings? The fundamentals are going to the wrong way.

2. Blue Apron

One of last week's biggest losers was Blue Apron. The pioneer of home-delivered meal kits shed more than half of its value, down 56% after announcing a stock offering. You may not think announcing a modest $15 million at-the-market equity offering would result in the shedding of more than $100 million in market cap, but think about it. If the news sank the stock and Blue Apron went on with the offering anyway, it's a sign of how desperate it has become for liquidity.

There's a lot going wrong here. Growth is a missing ingredient, as revenue has failed to top a 2% year-over-year gain in each of the last four years. Losses are mounting, and Blue Apron has posted a larger deficit than analysts were expecting in at least the last four quarters. With too many competitors promoting aggressively to win their way into your kitchen, this is not going to be moneymaker for investors in the near term.

3. Gold Fields

I went with Gold Fields last week because I felt gold miners would slip if the market bounced back in October. I got the second part right. Stocks did bounce back. Unfortunately for this particular call, gold prices moved even higher. It also only helped Gold Fields that it would schedule a shareholder meeting to vote on a pending deal for a Canadian gold miner that was initially valued at $6.7 billion.

Gold isn't an inverse market fund. It may be a flight to safety when there's turmoil, but the shiny previous metal has still lost value this year. I still think investors will rotate out of gold if this early October rally continues into the new trading week.

It's going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments. If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in Walgreens, Blue Apron, and Gold Fields this week.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks to Avoid This Week
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks to Avoid This Week\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-10-11 23:19 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
October got off to an encouraging start, but it didn't take long for the markets to start selling off. J.P. Morgan’sAlex Yao has an idea. The analyst believes “sentiment-driven fund flow is the current key share price driver and revenue recovery is the key determinant of market sentiment.”That is a bit of problem, then. Because Yao expects weak China consumption in the September quarter (F2Q23) to impact the revenue outlook.Since late August, Covid has once again been a disruptive force in a host of cities across China, and as such, Yao expects “limited improvement” in Alibaba’s core-core CMR (customer-management revenue) compared to the June quarter. The analyst sees the September quarter’s CMR falling by 4% from the same period last year, hardly any better than the June quarter’s 5% drop. On account of “low visibility of consumer sentiment improvement” or any relaxion of the Covid policies, the decline will continue in the December quarter, albeit at a slower pace (Yao expects a 2% year-over-year decline vs. anticipation of a positive turn previously). In contrast, given Alibaba’s firm commitment to cost-cutting and efficiency-improving measures, Yao sees “potential upside to consensus bottom-line projections.”However, that might not have enough of a positive effect right now. “Alibaba’s weakening revenue outlook in the near term could continue to weigh on the share price despite an unchanged, or even potentially better, profit outlook,” the analyst said, before summing up, “Nonetheless, we believe Alibaba’s share price is attractive on a 12-month view on 1) profit growth recovery to 20%+ in FY2024, 2) current consensus FY2024 PE of only 9x.”To this end, Yao rates BABA shares an Overweight (i.e., Buy) along with a $135 price target. This figure leaves room for 12-month share appreciation of ~69%. Yao’s rating stays an Overweight (i.e., Buy).Overall, Wall Street takes a bullish stance on Alibaba shares. 17 Buys and 1 Sell issued over the previous three months, making the stock a Strong Buy. Meanwhile, the $149.06 average price target suggests ~86% upside from current levels.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":168,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":9980524622,"gmtCreate":1665787583366,"gmtModify":1676537663134,"author":{"id":"4126580484917442","authorId":"4126580484917442","name":"Mike Owen","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aca319dd0911e89355fa97a5e384d9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4126580484917442","idStr":"4126580484917442"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Thanks","listText":"Thanks","text":"Thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9980524622","repostId":"1140902779","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":537,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9917333991,"gmtCreate":1665441120413,"gmtModify":1676537604644,"author":{"id":"4126580484917442","authorId":"4126580484917442","name":"Mike Owen","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aca319dd0911e89355fa97a5e384d9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4126580484917442","idStr":"4126580484917442"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Noted","listText":"Noted","text":"Noted","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9917333991","repostId":"2274656821","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":313,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9912059265,"gmtCreate":1664714037357,"gmtModify":1676537497429,"author":{"id":"4126580484917442","authorId":"4126580484917442","name":"Mike Owen","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aca319dd0911e89355fa97a5e384d9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4126580484917442","idStr":"4126580484917442"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9912059265","repostId":"1157459217","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1157459217","pubTimestamp":1664676789,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1157459217?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-02 10:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Alibaba Stock: Attractive Valuation Despite Mid-Term Headwinds","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1157459217","media":"TipRanks","summary":"Over the mid term,Alibaba’s share price has had a habit of moving in step with earnings revisions but during the past 3 months, this relationship has weakened.During the period, Alibaba’s forecast for adj EPS in FY2024 has been cut by 4%, yet the share price has dropped by 34%.Moving forward, how can this be corrected?","content":"
\n
Over the mid term, Alibaba’s (BABA)share price has had a habit of moving in step with earnings revisions but during the past 3 months, this relationship has weakened.During the period, Alibaba’s ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"lsy1606183248679","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; In particular, project, exchange, and meme tokens should be questioned more than ever.

In particular, project, exchange, and meme tokens should be questioned more than ever.Three that I think should be avoided at all costs right now are ApeCoin, BNB, and Dogecoin.ApeCoin's questionable use casesThe launch of ApeCoin was one of the strangest in 2022. Yuga Labs, which launched the Bored Ape Yacht Club and related non-fungible tokens (NFTs), was not technically involved in the token's launch, but it was given 16% of the tokens at launch and the four Yuga Labs founders were given 8% of the tokens. Launch contributors were given another 14%.The remaining 62% of ApeCoin supply was, or will be, claimable by some NFT owners. Proponents might claim value in a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) or staking, but these have never proven to deliver long-term value to investors.Someday, Yuga Labs could provide a use case for the token that provides real value, but until it does, investors should be skeptical. But investors should be particularly judicious with their investing capital in the current market. You shouldn't put your money toward any investment just because it's trading up or down, or because of primarily near-term factors.

Rather, any investment thesis should be built around a solid business that has long-term growth potential, strong financials, and quality leadership -- and you should plan to buy and hold for at least several years. You shouldn't be investing money that you'll soon require for bills or other financial obligations, and you shouldn't be dipping into your nest egg or emergency stash to fund your portfolio.

With all that being said, if you have $1,000 at the ready to invest in the stock market, here are two incredible companies to consider adding to your portfolio in the near future.

1. Amazon: E-commerce is just the tip of the iceberg

Amazon has fallen nearly 30% this year as factors like inflation, supply chain and labor disruptions, fears about a global recession, and changes in consumer spending have impacted its balance sheet and caused some investors to head for the hills. While these factors will undoubtedly take time to resolve, I have no qualms about maintaining and even adding to my position.

Frankly, it would have been unrealistic to expect even a company like Amazon to be totally immune to the current global catalysts impacting businesses across a range of sectors, such as "inflationary pressures in fuel, energy, and transportation costs," as CEO Andy Jassy said in the most recent quarterly report.

In the long run, though, the diversity of Amazon's businesses and its leadership in the massive, dynamic markets in which it operates can still drive considerable growth for the company in the years ahead. Even with the present business and market environment, analysts still think the stock could hit as much as $215 over the next 12 months, a nearly 80% upside from its current share price.

In the most recent quarter, unprofitability, combined with a decline in operating and free cash flow, understandably unnerved some investors. At the same time, net sales rose 7% year-over-year, though that does represent a pullback from the previous quarterly growth figures investors had become accustomed to previously.

But the broader dynamics that can drive Amazon's future growth trajectory are far more favorable. Amazon is known first and foremost as an e-commerce stock, and it continues to control a significant share of this multi-trillion industry. Amazon captures 38% of the online retail market in the U.S. alone. Even in the current environment, Amazon still reported that on this year's Prime Day Event in July it saw more transactions than on any other Prime Day to date.

While the company notably has its fingers in many pies, from healthcare to groceries to entertainment, the largest slice of its business besides e-commerce is its cloud business, Amazon Web Services. In the most recent quarter, AWS saw net sales jump 33% year-over-year. Bear in mind, AWS continues to dominate the $200 billion cloud infrastructure market, outpacing giants like Alphabet and Microsoft.

And while management can only do so much to combat the impact of inflation, the company is making changes that should help improve its top line and move it back to profitability, such as improvements to its fulfillment network. All of this portends a strong recovery for Amazon stock in the future, as current headwinds eventually subside.

2. Walmart: A safe haven for consumers and investors alike

Another household name, and the number-two company behind Amazon among the largest online retailers in the country, Walmart is only down about 8% from the beginning of this year.

Walmart has weathered many market and economic storms in its day, and its stable, consistent financial growth has translated to steady returns for investors throughout the years. The Dividend Aristocrat -- which is just one year's dividend increase away from being crowned a Dividend King -- currently yields 1.7%. Over the past five years, the stock has yielded a total return of about 86%, compared to the S&P 500's 63%. During that same five-year period, the company has grown its annual revenue and annual net income by 14% and 39%, respectively.

Walmart's business footprint covers a variety of lucrative, non-cyclical industries, ranging from consumer staples like food and household supplies to healthcare. This gives the company many reliable streams of revenue growth to tap into, even in a turbulent business environment. Walmart's "Every Day Low Price" strategy is especially compelling for consumers looking for ways to reduce costs in a high-inflation economy, and that bears up in the company's recent financial figures.

In the most recent quarter, Walmart reported total revenue growth of 8% year-over-year to $152.9 billion, while net income increased 20% year-over-year to $5.1 billion. Its U.S. comp sales and e-commerce sales rose 7% and 12%, respectively, from the year-ago period. On a two-year basis, these two metrics rose 12% and 18%. More and more consumers are also flocking to its warehouse retailer subsidiary Sam's Club, which saw sales jump 10% year-over-year, while its member base hit an all-time high, pushing membership income up 9% year-over-year.

And while foreign currency headwinds are impacting a variety of businesses including Walmart, its international sales were still up 6% year-over-year. Stepping away from the retail side, its global ad division, which represents a rapidly growing segment of its business, saw sales skyrocket 30% from the year-ago period.

The consistent growth that Walmart has realized even in the current environment demonstrates the resilience of its business. With its history of robust financial performance, the stock is a favorable choice for investors to buy and hold for many years in all types of markets.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":593,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9961742846,"gmtCreate":1669072011586,"gmtModify":1676538146080,"author":{"id":"4126580484917442","authorId":"4126580484917442","name":"Mike Owen","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aca319dd0911e89355fa97a5e384d9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4126580484917442","idStr":"4126580484917442"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Thanks","listText":"Thanks","text":"Thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9961742846","repostId":"2285079688","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":292,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9917339626,"gmtCreate":1665441072166,"gmtModify":1676537604628,"author":{"id":"4126580484917442","authorId":"4126580484917442","name":"Mike Owen","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aca319dd0911e89355fa97a5e384d9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4126580484917442","idStr":"4126580484917442"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Thanks","listText":"Thanks","text":"Thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9917339626","repostId":"1151369435","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":91,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9917319829,"gmtCreate":1665442132561,"gmtModify":1676537604908,"author":{"id":"4126580484917442","authorId":"4126580484917442","name":"Mike Owen","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/0aca319dd0911e89355fa97a5e384d9f","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"4126580484917442","idStr":"4126580484917442"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9917319829","repostId":"1197770679","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1197770679","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1665408960,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1197770679?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-10-10 21:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Hot Chinese ADRs Crashed in Morning Trading, With iQiyi and Bilibili Tumbling Over 8%","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1197770679","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Hot Chinese ADRs crashed in morning trading, with iQiyi Inc. and Bilibili Inc. tumbling over 8%.","content":"

Hot Chinese ADRs crashed in morning trading, with iQiyi Inc. and Bilibili Inc. tumbling over 8%.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
