0857 ET - If there's a caveat in the latest Canadian inflation data, which saw headline CPI cool to the central bank's 2% target in August, it that base-year effects played a role. In particular, the fall in gasoline prices last month is thanks at least in part to comparisons with the rise seen in the same month last year. Economists at Desjardins have noted base effects should fade in the coming months and lead to slightly higher inflation by the end of the year. And Bank of Canada Gov. Tiff Macklem this month said that while officials expect inflation to ease further in the months ahead, but warned it may accelerate late in the year as those base effects unwind.
