Australia Shares Set for Modest Opening Rise -- Market Talk

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 looks set to rise at the open following another strong lead from all three major U.S. indices. ASX futures are up by 0.2% ahead of Monday's open, suggesting that the benchmark index could have a shot a fresh record. It closed at a record on Thursday before retreating 0.1% in the week's final session. Ahead of the open, Northern Star said it agreed to acquire rival gold miner De Grey in a A$5 billion all-stock deal. Supermarket supplier Metcash posted a 5.5% fall in first-half profit and cut its dividend. (stuart.condie@wsj.com)
