How To Trade JPM Before/After Its Earnings Release on 14 Jul 2023
In my earlier article, I have shared on I would be planning my trade for C3.ai before and after the CPI data release on 12 Jul 2023.
In this article, I will be looking at $JPMorgan Chase(JPM)$ this week as JPM will be releasing their earnings pre-market on 14 Jul.
I am expecting some positive earnings and news from JPM for this quarter and 2023.
Let us look at some of the fundamental data from JPM.
JPM Earning Data
It look like the market is expecting JPM EPS to perform much better than the same period in 2022 And they do exceed the market estimate in EPS in their last earning report in April 2023.
I would think they should be able to beat the forecast of $3.96.
JPM Past EPS and Estimate
If we look at the past few quarter EPS, JPM has beaten the estimate and this would be no difference for Q2 2023, I would expect the EPS to be better than the forecast of $3.96.
JPM has been resilience during the market volatility as we can see a number of other hedge funds also recently modified their holdings of JPM.
Retirement Financial Solutions LLC acquired a new stake in JPMorgan Chase & Co. in the 4th quarter valued at approximately $26,000.
Adirondack Retirement Specialists Inc. raised its position in JPMorgan Chase & Co. by 510.8% in the 1st quarter.
Adirondack Retirement Specialists Inc. now owns 226 shares of the financial services provider’s stock valued at $29,000 after buying an additional 189 shares during the last quarter.
Creative Capital Management Investments LLC acquired a new stake in JPMorgan Chase & Co. in the 4th quarter valued at approximately $30,000.
Boulder Wealth Advisors LLC acquired a new stake in JPMorgan Chase & Co. in the 4th quarter valued at approximately $43,000.
Finally, Capital Directions Investment Advisors LLC acquired a new stake in JPMorgan Chase & Co. in the 4th quarter valued at approximately $44,000. Institutional investors and hedge funds own 70.10% of the company’s stock.
JPM Insider Trading
Even though we see that there was around 24.7M shares decreased over the last 3 months though insider trading. There have been new BUY transactions seen in July.
This would mean confidence in corporate insiders on the bank have been positive.
This would mean positive for the stock price.
JPM Stock Price Before and After Last Earnings Report
I would like to use the past stock price trading of JPM before and after in April 2023, it seem like just a day before the earning report, normally the stock would be trading and close flat.
As the earning report would be released in pre-market, it might be better for me to plan my trade 1-2 days before earning report to capture a good entry price.
Price surge on the day after EPS beat estimate on 14 April 2023 and you can see that it continue to go higher a day after as well.
Let us take a look at what technical analysis can tell us about JPM current trend.
JPM on Simple Moving Averages (SMA)
JPM has been in Bull trend for more than 100 trading days. As seen in the SMA chart below, it is currently building up a strong bull trend.
SMA50 and SMA200 range wider would mean a stronger bull trend. You can see similar occurrence at the 500 period.
JPM on Parabolic SAR
I think similar signal have been seen in SAR, as we are seeing a very Strong bullish uptrend for JPM.
As wide range between the dots and price have indicate the bullish uptrend is getting stronger.
Summary
As we have seen how JPM has been resilient throughout the rate hike and geopolitical triggered economic uncertainties.
I believe JPM is a resilience stock which we can held for long term and also do a short term trade. It is having a strong bullish uptrend.
Past data have shown that JPM will rise on positive earnings report and a better than expected EPS.
I will be monitoring JPM from 10 Jul 2023 and see how it will be trading and find a best entry price to trade.
