IWD: Women Investors in the Tiger Community(II)

We used to believe women investors are few in the financial circle. But a new survey shows that 48% of women currently invest in the stock market and they on average achieve positive returns. These brilliant women can perform well in the market because of their insights and powerful mind.

On this special day, we sincerely encourage female investors to be more confident in investing. And here are another 3 women investors from Tiger Community to share their investing stories with us.

@佳霖

I am a mother of 2 children and had studied in UK. I currently live in Harbin city, Heilongjiang Province. This screen name in Tiger community is also my real name. I am good at cooking and baking. My hobbies are self-driving tours as well as learning financial knowledge concerning US stocks and finance. If the pandemic eases, I would love to get a diving license.

Hi, Jia Lin, can you share with us your investment story?

Since my parents work in banks and I studied in the UK for many years, I have known about Hong Kong and US stocks for a long time. In the 2000s, I have paid attention to Amazon and it was only a few dollars at that time when the Internet was still in its initial stage.

Until 2007, I began my investment when the fund just appeared. I bought the first Huaxia Global Selection Fund. I opened my position in A-shares in 2015 because of Wuliangye and Maotai(the Chinese baijiu liquor). I opened my position of U.S. stock account at Tiger Fintech in 2018 when PDD went public.

Why do you choose Tiger? Which aspects did you find most attractive?

I opened a US stock account on July 26, 2018, because PDD was listed in the US and wanted to buy its shares. Of so many brokers, I choose Tiger because it has this cute icon and good services with a fast deposit and withdrawal process. In addition, the functions on the app are simple and the community is very interesting.

Generally, women are less interested in numbers and finance compared to men. So why are you fond of dealing with numbers and stocks every day?

My family members(my grandfather and my parents) work in banks, so I was exposed to finance and numbers from a young age.

Do your families know and support you in trading stocks?

Yes, they know and support me in doing so

What are your investment preferences?

I prefer large-cap tech stocks, and panic index-related products in derivatives. For derivatives, I usually trade in short term; and I hold stocks for medium or long term. I haven't buy options because I don't think I know enough about them.

Can you tell us your most unforgettable investing story(get considerable return or suffer from a heart-broken loss)? How did you feel at that time?

I earn most on PDD. As I mentioned, I opened a US stock account because of it. I bought PDD at $16 and earned 3x. I lose around $10000 on derivatives when I 3x long crude oil ETN.

One lesson I have learned is to be in awe of the market. There are a lot of derivatives in US stocks, but the risk is very high. I try to do more underlying stocks as well as stocks with good fundamentals.

Do you have any new insights on recent market fluctuations?

The market is very beneficial for retail investors in 2020 when there are a lot of opportunities to make money, especially in the field of new energy. But it is more difficult in 2021, and 2022 even harder because many high valuation stocks have dropped a lot. The retracement of large tech stocks are even more jaw-dropping. So my opinion is we should not operate frequently in 2022.

As 2022 is likely to be very volatile, we should preserve the principal and don’t put too much money on one stock and more cash in the position means more active rights. I am still bullish on US large tech stocks, but I need to cautiously measure the valuation and current prices.

How do you do stock investment research in your everyday life? Do you have any research methods for newcomers?

I get most of the stock research information from the Tiger app. I also pay attention to international affairs and some long and data in my every day life. My knowledge on stocks are also limited so my advice to newcomers is to never stop learning. Only by constantly learning can I raise my knowledge to a high level and avoid risks. For example, I randomly speculated on derivatives which led to large losses. So my only advice is to keep learning.

What changes have investments brought to you?

Through investment, I become more calm and have new understanding of gains and losses, mainly because I have improved my learning ability.

What do you do on IWD? Do you spend time with other women like families or friends?

I have afternoon tea with my girlfriends; the company also shows movie on this day. My husband also takes the initiative to undertake household chores when he gets home. I look forward to this day and I feel women are well respected.

Do you have any wishes on the IWD?

I hope the pandemic will pass soon so that I can take my children to travel and get diving license.

What would you like to say to female Tiger friends in our community?

I hope that you can find your own hobbies while taking care of families, and learn more to improve yourselves. Investing can make you better and earn some money to live an independent and fulfilling life. The most important one is that be yourself and that’s what makes you enchanted.

@小韭儿

I’m a retail investor trading US stocks. Thanks to Tiger for providing a platform to express my views. I don't have any special hobbies. My daily routine is to check the A-shares during the day, look at US stocks at night, and walk my dog. This basically all I do and I like to do.

When did you become interested in financial management?

I've been a saver since I was a kid. And my family started to teach me the idea of financial management in my childhood. From the pocket money to red envelopes money earned in the Spring Festival, I put them in the bank regularly. Later I also invested in P2P, funds, stocks, options, digital currencies, NFT. Basically, I've been involved in everything I've seen.

What is your view on investment?

I think investing is a lifelong process and requires continuous learning. There is a news impressed me: a 104-year-old women still insist on watch the stock market every day and like to talk about stocks. I used to view investing as a tool to make money, but I was very inspired after reading this news. I found that’s how my ideal life looks like: I got a lifelong hobby and can continue to watch stocks when I am old.

Why did you choose Tiger? What did you find most attractive?

I had used other apps before. But after comparing these apps, I felt that design on the Tiger is more simple and convenient. After I get used to it, I don’t want to change for other apps. Its design and content are also youthful and aesthetically pleasing.

Generally, women are less interested in numbers and finance compared to men. So why are you fond of dealing with numbers and stocks every day?

I always insist on this point, financial independence is important for girls. Money can not solve everything, and it's just a cold number. But it can be a solid back-up for you to bravely say "no" to things you don't like and don't want to do. You do not have to be proficient in all financial management skills, but you can not refuse to explore the way to become wealthy. The stock market is the best path to wealth for the average person. In the stock market, your background, education or family won’t be judged, so you have unlimited possibilities.

Do your families know and support you in trading stocks?

I mention it occasionally. But they don't want me to take high risks. I use my own money to invest, so it doesn't really matter. As long as you set a rule for yourself and don't let stocks bother your normal life.

What are your investment preferences?

For US stocks, I still like short term options trading. It's fast and exciting, but it also makes you lose a large amount of money in one minute.

Can you tell us your most unforgettable investing story(get considerable return or suffer from a heart-broken loss)? How did you feel at that time?

There are too many experiences that I can't tell all the stories here. But you can read my article"I learned these truths after losing $200w a year". I paid so many “the tuition fees” over these years.

Are there some insights into the recent market fluctuations?

The recent market are also very difficult to earn money, but there are also opportunities.

In fact, I have liquidated my position previously, and short some Tesla shares. This market is not worth to look into, but I did not expect to earn more than 20 percent. Under this background, when the stocks plunges, you will profit a lot; or they drop a little bit, you make small profit.

For the Russia-Ukraine war, I looked at some historical data of war impact on the stock market. In fact, similar to the previous situation, pre-war confrontation and the early stages of the war will form a blow to the global stock market. But these are temporary, as long as the Russian-Ukraine war tends to be clear, I think the stock market will soon return to normal.

Do you have any advice for new tigers in terms of stock learning methods?

I usually read a lot of information. I also have a lot of friends who like to share their stock trading thoughts so we communicate with each other every day. I suggest that you can join a stock trading circle and communicate with others, you can exchange ideas with them.

What changes have investments brought to you?

The most important impact is not the money and wealth, but the test of humanity and profound self-reflection. Especially with options, I can feel the ups and downs of life in just one day. I have been around too many people who got rich overnight, or many who went bankrupt overnight because of options. In the end, money is just a string of numbers that you can chase, but don't get too attached to.

What’s your plan on IWD?

I'm going to have a meal with my friends and chat with them.

Do you have any wishes on the IWD?

Get rich!

One sentence to send blessings to female Tiger friends?

I wish you all to be rich and happy, as happy as a clam.

@不段说

“不段说” has special meanings because “段”-my first name and “断”-stop are homophones. Thus, this name sounds like “keep talking” in Chinese. This meaning also explains what I’m doing as a youtuber shooting financial videos. I use the name “不段说” on many platforms like Bilibili, Youtube and etc.

How long have you been investing? When did you start to invest in US and HK stocks?

I have been in Hong Kong for many years, and I have much exposure to the US and Hong Kong stock markets because of my work. I have invested for more than 10 years, but I have too many new things to learn every day, so I view myself as a senior investment learner.

What’s your impression of Tiger, and which part do you like most?

At first, I was invited by Tiger's operation team, maybe they like my high-quality content...... I'm just kidding haha. When I started to operate the video, I got in touch with the Tiger team very early. I felt the team try to be at the forefront, and I appreciate this point.

There is a big gap between the ratio of male and female investors, can you talk about the characteristics of female investors?

At the moment, from the viewing of the show from the section said, the male audience is still the main audience. But I will actually have quite a few female investor friends who are also invited to be guests on the show. People will find that the women who can survive in this environment are very insightful and powerful, and many are particularly committed like me, so investment does not differentiate between men and women.

Currently, man is still the main audience of my show. But there are many female investors and I also invited them to my show. I find that the women who can survive in this environment and keep investing are very insightful and powerful. Many of them are particularly committed to trading like I did. So I think investment is open to anyone, irrespective of gender.

Do your families know and support you in stock investing?

My mother is a very strong-minded A-share stock investor and she has a better mindset than I do. I follow the market movements very closely which makes me stressed-out. But my mother gets used to the fluctuations of A-share and has a better attitude towards stocks.

What kinds of stocks do you prefer? Tell us about your investment preferences

I prefer to trade underlying stocks, both in short and long term. I've always liked the large tech and Internet stocks, but I'm not good at the biotech companies

Can you talk about your most impressive trading experience, which stock was it?

The most recent one was last year when I was convinced that Meituan was a good investment choice. And I insisted on it. Later, I was a little bit obsessive, and held too many shares. So I freaked out. Last year, I stopped most of my losses. I felt that I should have stopped losses much earlier. If I really liked the Meituan’s shares, I could have waited and bought it at a lower level. I think it's important to have a good mindset to face fear.

Do you have any new insights into the recent market fluctuations

The new insight is that, fortunately, I stop losses and take profit previously. I feel very comfortable now.

Another thing is that a bear market can help people better understand themselves than in a bull market.

What kinds of tools do you use to do stock investment research?

The certification exam is to force yourself to learn systematically. I also watch videos and read a lot of texts, including investment banking reports and online analysis. There are so many great people out there. You can find learning resources everywhere, but time for learning is so limited. If you ever watch my videos, you will find that I’m committed to finding more excellent minds and sharing the essence of the analysis with everyone. And I think opinions from different perspectives are better than one point. And I believe that their ideas are very precious. One best part about my work is that together with these insightful investors I can learn from the market to confirm some views. In my financial videos and live streaming, we can discuss together like friends.

What changes have investment brought to you?

I got one more place to confirm my judgment and decisions.

Happy IWD! Do you have any holiday wishes?

Thanks for the reminder of this wonderful day and I hope that women's rights are protected every day. Equal rights + World peace!

What would you like to say to female Tiger friends?

Investment is open to anyone, irrespective of gender.

Let’s give thanks to all the ladies in our community for their contributions!

Wish you a happy International Women’s Day! ❤️❤️❤️
