Newbie's Blog: Dealing with Volatility
I am currently holding on to $DBS GROUP HOLDINGS LTD(D05.SI)$ and $Grab Holdings(GRAB)$
The factors of volatility were initially the War in Ukraine, Inflation and possible recession. While these factors still affect us, we have more or less learnt to live with the effects. While the market is in the red again and prices seem to be low (not as low as during and after the COVID-19 period), it may seem like a good time to sell stocks and stay away.
As of this morning, it seems like the Fed has raised interest rates for the last time this year ("seems"). In general, there is also an underlying fear that recession is looming.
But my opinion is that having been through the rough patch, we are approaching a possible rally. Of course, I can't tell you when, but being unable to time the market, I think it's important to hold on to stocks, now more than ever. This is because of a few possible scenarios such as (1) Inflation going down below 4 and so on, (2) economy recovering and soaring despite high interest rates and (3) most importantly, generally market optimism which occurs after the market is down (as the market begins to adjust and accept reality). Of course, any positive remarks from the Fed will really boost optimism especially if the rate hikes in June are halted, confirming the pause. That being said, I think the volatility now is temporary and should be ignored as much as possible.
In the markets' current level, I think stocks could be ripe or potentially ripe for the picking. For one, $DBS GROUP HOLDINGS LTD(D05.SI)$ is once again below $32.4 which I think is a good opportunity (needless to caveat, you need to consider this with your own analysis).
So generally, my perspective is that we are quickly approaching the light at the end of the unnel. In fact, tech stocks like $Microsoft(MSFT)$
P.s. Sorry for my long absence. My exams just ended, which gives me more time to write. I will try my best to catch up with more articles.
