Are we there yet again?

Recession is defined as " a period of temporary decline in economic activity in which trade and industrial activity decreases, generally a fall in GDP for 2 successive quarters". Although countries have generally avoided this, the sombre mood amidst the recessions feel like its a recession. Job cuts and suspensions in hirings have started in several major companies, such as $Twitter(TWTR)$, Lyft, $Apple(AAPL)$ and many others.

But are we really there yet? Signs say not quite as data on job hirings and company growth continue to surge in some sectors. Typically, there would be less growth but this isn't it.

As an investor, I've been waiting for the pivot to come but it still feels like we haven't reached that point. Is it possible that we are not heading towards a heavy recession but a mild one (in fact, this one feels like a mild one, unlike the certainty we faced during the COVID-19 period)?

Well, I don't know. But this is why I am saying that we should be looking into the long run and to understand that this could be a long drawn operation. This means investing defensively and planning for not just money but time to retrieve profits. Savings to tide you through this difficult period just in case are a must so that you do not withdraw your investments prematurely. Since anything is possible and we can't time the market, invest as though we aren't there but will get there eventually.
