Wednesday Afternoon Market Recap
$Carvana Co.(CVNA)$ β Shares soared 40.2% after the used-car retailer reached a deal that will reduce its total outstanding debt more than $1.2 billion. The agreement will eliminate over 85% of its 2025 and 2027 unsecured note maturities and lower its required cash interest expense $430 million a year for the next two years.
$Goldman Sachs(GS)$ β The banking titan advanced 1% despite missing expectations of analysts polled by Refinitiv for earnings and revenue. Goldman said the profit miss was tied to write-downs in the commercial real estate business and the sale of lending unit GreenSky.
$Amazon.com(AMZN)$ β The e-commerce giant traded 1.9% higher after Bank of America reiterated the stock as a buy, saying itβs optimistic on earnings.
Futures&Commodities
Inflation concerns in major countries around the world have slowed down, making investors raise their expectations that the interest rate hike cycle is drawing to a close. Some analysts said that the improvement in inflation data means that oil demand has improved. International oil prices rose by more than 1% in the intraday session, but turned down in late trading. WTI crude oil futures for August closed down $0.40, or 0.53%, to $75.35 a barrel. Brent September futures closed down $0.17, or 0.21%, at $79.46 a barrel.
Gold futures for August delivery on COMEX closed flat at $1,980.80 an ounce. August silver futures closed up 0.50% at $25.258 an ounce. Investors bet that the Fed's interest rate hike cycle is coming to an end. Spot gold rose slightly at one point and hovered at its eight-week high since May 24 yesterday.
