Hi Tigers,
Welcome to our Interview with @ShenGuang.
As a researcher and financial personnel, ShenGuang introduced his investing strategy and tactical trading. If you are curious about how to get a 50%-60% winning rate or $Gold - main 2308(GCmain)$ , just discover in this interview!
1. What's your most profitable or successful trade?
In my "core" portfolio, i.e. the portion where I allocate capital on a long-term basis, gold has delivered me the best hit in global commodities with a nearly 15% on a 1-year basis.
Some of my best investments in equities have been Indian stocks in recent times. Among my "India" portfolio, Tata Steel has seen 28% and 107% on a 1-year and 5-year basis, Reliance Industries Ltd has seen 17% and 155% and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has seen 123% and 366%!
2. Do you remember how you made the decision on the trade? Any reasons?
My gold investment was driven by solid long-term macro trends that suggested a steady flight of capital into a safe haven. The most "traditional" safe haven has been gold. I'm interested in how my gold play pans out as macro conditions get more cloudy. As for my "India" portfolio, it comes from a deep study of policies, impact, deal flow, etc. in addition to macro trends.
I also have a number of plays the world over. Those are driven by analysis of trends, macros and sentiments. These require a lot more attention.
3. Do you think this trade or strategy or skills can be duplicated to increase your winning rate?
Yes, of course. If I'm able to allocate more resources going forward for research, I am confident I'll increase my success rate.
4. How do you plan your trades to increase the trades winning rate?
I'm a big believer of tactical trading, which I do via my "satellite" portfolio. The way I plan to boost my success rate is tap into data to see where convictions are ebbing and flowing to come up with investment decisions. However, with every investment in the "satelite" comes an exit strategy within a matter of days (if not hours).
5. What's your expected investment targets in 2023?
I'm expecting around 50-60% returns by the end of the year, unless I ramp up my trading volume in my "satellite" portfolio. Professional commitments come in the way of my doing this but we'll see.
6. What's your most bullish or favorite industrial or sectors?
I'm deep into heavy as well as niche industrials. It's the intricacy of exploration and discovery of production optimization, market capture techniques, etc. It's a very engaging topic of reading for me (I used to be an engineer).
7. Do you have any special investing notes or sharing to Tigers?
Never buy the hype, even if it's your own. However, DO capitalize on hype as and when possible.
8. What's your investing background?
I currently lead research at a European asset management firm that issues Exchange-Traded Products for retail investors. Over the course of my adult life, I have worked in the media, consulted corporations on roads, ports and highways, been a manager at an investment bank, and built indices for Nasdaq. I hold an MS in Finance as well as an MBA.
