@JordenTan is a star contributor in the Tiger Community with excellent video content, and he is also our upcoming guest for a live interview (scheduled at 19:00, 21 Mar, stay tuned!).
Currently, most of his portfolio is in the US market, but he might add more into SG stocks in the future. He has unique insights and investment experience in dividend investing, and he has also earned a 110% profit on Berkshire Hathaway, which never pays dividends. Additionally, he conducted his own research on Bitcoin investments and started investing in BTC when the price was only $500.

Briefly introduce yourself, share your personal investment growth experience, and how you made your first bucket of gold in the market?
Hi! My name is Jorden. I started investing during covid because back then, we had a lot of time and nothing much to do. Thus I read more and invited a little more aggressively.
I might not have made my first pot of gold, but fun fact. $Berkshire Hathaway(BRK.B)$ which is a stock I bought myself as a birthday gift has grown almost 110%!
From your shared orders and some of your videos, it seems that you're focusing more on "dividend" stocks and ETFs, right? So why do you choose this as one of your strategies? Could you share your investment philosophy and thoughts behind this?
Dividend investing is something that not many people like or appreciate because the gains are ‘lower’ at 4-7% per annum. As compared to trading where you can get 10% in a month if you’re good.
One of the key considerations I had when deciding to invest in dividend stocks, is my day job. I know I won’t enjoy trading as a day job because it’s stressful and probably will take up a lot of time which is something I don’t like.
But with dividend investing, this allows me to free up time to do things that I really enjoy like creating content about personal finance on YouTube, writing articles or even just doing a 2 hour cycle around Singapore. Knowing that my dividend stocks/ETF won’t plummet to 0 overnight or during the times I’m doing something else to fulfill my life.
I noticed you will also engage in options trading, mostly selling puts? What are your considerations on this? Regarding options, will you also choose other strategies, such as buying calls, etc.?
I sell puts to get that premium which can serve as additional income on top of my dividend strategy. I don’t do it regularly but only when there’s some news that I can capitalise on, then I’ll be selling some puts.
What is the most impressive investment experience you have ever had?
Outside of equities and stocks, it’s Bitcoin. $CME Bitcoin - main 2403(BTCmain)$
Investing in BTC set me up for my investing journey. I got BTC at ~$500 way back. Then there was the ICO times, IDO and much more. This got me interested in reading up on the tokens, what they do and how to ‘evaluate’ them.
With crypto, I’m buying and owning those crypto directly and not via an ETF because I’m always invested in them and more comfortable owning them instead of through an ETF.
One of my favourite ways to buy Crypto is via $Coinbase Global, Inc.(COIN)$ . And I also do some options trading on Coinbase as well. Having some knowledge in the space and also using the product/service, I do have some ‘advantage’ when trading the options!
How do you control risks and manage your portfolio? How about your current asset allocation between the US and SG markets?
Throughout the last 2 years, I have rebalanced my stock portfolio quite abit. I removed ‘duplicate’ stocks that I’m holding, which is also in the ETFs that I’m purchasing. This allows me to reallocate that money into something else.
Right now, I’m split 35% in SG stocks and 65% in US Stocks. Might be looking to add more into SG stocks to take advantage of the ‘No Dividend Taxes’.
What is your follow-up trading plan? What are the key directions you pay attention to?
Since I’m in the tech sector, I’m looking at tech pretty closely. Things like $Invesco QQQ Trust-ETF(QQQ)$ would be an interesting play, but maybe when the prices calms down a little more.
Otherwise, I’m just doing DCA into ETFs that pays me a dividend and this allows me to accumulate those dividends that goes into Tiger Vault.
If you were to use one sentence as a slogan to get people to subscribe to your Trade Feed account, what would it be?
I invest to ‘buy’ time which I can use to spent it with my loved ones.

Buffet has a well-known saying: Everybody wants to get rich, but nobody wants to get rich slowly… think it’s perfect for dividend investing. True, 4-7% apr is not that much, but more importantly we’re growing rich step by step 💪
