πππThe word "Trading" implies the frequent buying and selling of stocks. I prefer to use the word "Investing" rather than trading as I am more of a Buy and Hold kind of person.
That said, to me Left Side Trading implies "Contrarian Investing". This refers to a strategy that looks for profit opportunities in trades that go against the current market sentiment. For example, if the market is Bullish, the contrarian investor is Bearish and will look for opportunities to sell.
A recent example is my tactical trade by using $Direxion Daily Semiconductors Bull 3x Shares(SOXL)$
SOXL is a Bullish Bet on Semiconductors Stocks as it seeks daily investment results of 300% of the performance of NYSE Semiconductor Index. The market can change from Bearish to Bullish day to day but in the long run, I believe that the major semiconductor stocks such as $NVIDIA Corp(NVDA)$
Left Side Trading appears to offer more profit potential but it also comes with higher risk as Buying may not occur at the lowest point and Selling may not happen at the highest point.
Right side trading is simpler as it aligns with the stock's trend and helps to avoid mistakes in both Bullish and Bearish markets. There is a saying "Follow The Trend". This means one should buy an asset when its price trend go up and sell when its trend goes down.
A good example currently is $NVIDIA Corp(NVDA)$
42 Wall Street Analysts surveyed by Tipranks are Bullish on Nvidia with a Buy rating, Average Target price of USD 153.24, an upside potential of 28%.
So if we follow the trend, Nvidia is definitely a Buy right now as it is on an upward trajectory.
I tend to get really excited when the markets are down as I love bargain hunting. So in that respect I am more of a Left Side Trader. However my tendency is to hold the stock long term after buying so as to enjoy the magic of compounding.
As Warren Buffett likes to say "When there is Fear in the markets it is time to be greedy". Just like him, I love to buy Wonderful Companies at a Fair Price and my favourite holding period is Forever.
