Elon Musk's America Party - Visionary or Volatility?
Elon Musk's launch of the America Party has sparked a firestorm. Tesla share price had plunged 7% erasing USD 80 billion in market value when it was announced due to investors' fear that Elon Musk could be distracted from focusing on Tesla and its governance risk. With Elon Musk now juggling Tesla, Space X, xAI, X (formerly Twitter) and political ambitions, investors are asking - can he still lead Tesla with a laser focus?

Model Y L - Tesla's Luxury Model Counterstrike
Tesla is launching Model Y L, a 6 seater SUV with extended wheelbase and upscale features. These include heated seats for all passengers, redesigned rear spoiler with updated lighting elements, exclusive gold paint option and new alloy wheel designs for a premium look. Model Y L also has the latest infotainment and safety tech including Autopilot and optional Full Self Driving capability.
Tesla's Model Y L will be built at Giga Shanghai with a China first rollout and potential global expansion. Model Y L is Tesla's answer to the growing demand for spacious, tech forward family EVs. If the launch of Model Y L is a success, it could help lift Tesla out of the current drop in demand for Tesla's EVs.
Analysts Price Targets - A Wide Spectrum
Analysts are mixed on Tesla.
Dan Ives of Wedbush Securities currently maintains a price target of USD 550 for Tesla with a Bull case of USD 650 by the end of 2025. He believes that Tesla is entering a golden era of autonomy especially with the Robotaxi rollout in Austin Texas and broader FSD adoption. He sees this as a multi trillion dollar opportunity. Dan Ives' USD 550 target price does not include any value for Optimus, Tesla's humanoid robot. If successful, this could be a major upside catalyst.
In contrast, one of the most vocal Tesla bears is Guggenheim Securities which has maintained a Sell rating and a Target price of USD 175. Guggenheim said that Tesla's core metrics like margins, delivery growth and demand are weakening at an alarming rate.
Guggenheim also cited Cybertruck recall fallout in which nearly every Cybertruck was recalled due to crash risks and this has dented confidence in Tesla's execution and innovation narrative.
Guggenheim expressed concern that Elon Musk's political ventures such as DOGE activities and forming political party are seen as distractions that could erode shareholder value. There is also rising threats from competitors like BYD, legacy automakers and new entrants (Jeff Bezos' new EV venture called Slate).
Guggenheim's USD 175 target implies a downside of over 45% from current levels, making it one of the most aggressive bearish calls on Tesla.
My Target Price for Tesla - USD 355
After factoring Tesla's Robotaxi potential, AI monetisation and the strategic launch of Model Y L, my target price of USD 355 reflects a balanced view. I believe that in the short term, Tesla will face lots of volatility, but in the long term if Elon Musk is more laser focused on Tesla, its share price will take off like a Space X Rocket to Mars.
Concluding Thoughts
Tesla's Q2 25 is an important quarter and will reflect whatever Elon Musk chooses to focus on. If he delivers a clear road map for FSD, Cybercab and energy growth, Tesla could break out. But if political drama dominates amid rising competition from BYD and others, it may not augur well for Tesla.
Tesla's future isn't just about earnings. It is more about whether its CEO can resist becoming his own biggest distraction. I sincerely hope that Elon Musk makes the right decision in focusing on Tesla, his biggest and most important company, the one that makes him a billionaire.
I quote one of Elon Musk's most quoted philosophies:
"Focus is a superpower. Most people don't use it."
