The USD 110 Billion Thunderclap: OpenAI & The Era of Artificial General Intelligence

🌟🌟🌟On February 27 2026, OpenAI finalised a staggering USD 110 billion funding round, valuing the company at an eye watering USD 840 billion post funding.  This isn't just an ordinary funding round.  It is a geopolitical statement of intent aimed at one singular goal:  Artificial General Intelligence or AGI.

The Quest for the "Silicon Soul": What is AGI?

Why is $Amazon.com(AMZN)$  $NVIDIA(NVDA)$  and SoftBank pouring the equivalent of a small country's GDP into OpenAI?  They are chasing AGI - the Holy Grail of computing.

Human Level Cognition: Unlike "Narrow AI" that writes code or poems, AGI is the leap to a machine that can learn any intellectual task a human can do.

The System 2 Brain: AGI does not just predict the next word.  It possesses reasoning and logic.  It understands cause and effect, solving problems that it has never seen before.

Innovation or Inflation? The Monetisation Reality

The Acceleration: Open AI's CFO Sarah Friar said that OpenAI's revenue tripled in 2025 to reach USD 20 billion annualised.  This capital provides the "Silicon Oxygen" (5 gigawatts of compute) needed to reach AGI fast enough to meet insatiable demand.

The Inflation Reality:  Critics point to catastrophic losses, with internal documents predicting a USD 14 billion net loss in 2026.  Can OpenAI reach its projected USD 280 billion revenue by 2030 or is this a capital intensive cycle that defies tradition ROI?

The Juggernaut IPO:  Is This The Start of OpenAI Exponential Growth or The Peak?

For some analysts, the USD 1 Trillion IPO would solidify AI as a mainstream moneymaking reality, similar to Facebook's 2012 debut.

For skeptics, the reliance on "circular financing" between the tech giants might signal the peak of the most capital intensive cycle in history.

The "Holy Trinity" of Conviction

The scale of this investment signals an unprecedented alliance between NVIDIA (the Silicon King), Amazon (the Commerce Titan) and SoftBank (The Global Visionary).

Amazon, with USD 50 billion, is leading the charge.  It aims to fast track AI  innovation, integrates OpenAI models into AWS Bedrock and create "Stateful Runtime Environments" for developers globally.

AWS Bedrock can be likened to an ultimate high end supermarket for AI models.  It gives businesses "Serverless" access to the world's best models including OpenAI's exclusive high octane models via a single API.

Stateful Runtime Environments provide long term memory.  Currently AI is mostly "stateless".  It is like a genius with amnesia.  Every time you talk to it, it "forgets" who you are unless you remind it.  Stateful Runtimes change everything.

The Digital Continuity:  It allows an AI agent to have long term memory.  It remembers your preferences and your previous code.

The Agentic Edge: For AGI to work, it needs to "live"in a Stateful environment where it can carry out complex, multi day tasks such as managing a global supply chain without hitting "refresh".

The Infrastructure: Amazon is building 5 gigawatts data centers specifically to handle these always on Stateful brains.

NVIDIA:  Beyond the cash, this deal with OpenAI secures OpenAI's future on Vera Rubin systems, providing 3 gigawatts of dedicated inference capacity and 2 gigawatts of training.

SoftBank:  Masayoshi Son returns to his "Full Throttle" roots, doubling down on the belief that AGI is the ultimate destination for global capital.

Concluding Thoughts

With OpenAI securing 5 gigawatts of compute and USD 110 billion in cash, the "AI Highway" is now open for business.  My strategy is to stay invested in the hyperscalers like NVIDIA and Amazon that are fueling this growth.  I will also prepare some cash reserves for OpenAI IPO.  Because in the Year of the Fire Horse, to stay on the sidelines and not prepare for OpenAI IPO, is to lose out on the most compelling AI story of the decade.

$110B OpenAI Check: New Era or AI Bubble Bursting?
OpenAI just secured a staggering $110B funding round β€” including $30B from SoftBank, $30B from Nvidia, and $50B from Amazon. This signals unprecedented U.S. conviction in AI infrastructure, model development, and ecosystem dominance. But it also raises the obvious question: when capital scales this aggressively, does it accelerate innovation β€” or inflate expectations beyond monetization reality? If OpenAI eventually goes public, will it mark the birth of a new AI era? Or the peak of the most capital-intensive cycle in tech history?
