In late March, despite the second-largest bank failure in U.S. history and the Federal Reserve raising its rate hike by 25 basis points again, the S&P 500 still rose 3%, as reflected in the stock market performance.</p><p>According to a recent report by Rubner, Wall Street trend-following traders, also known as commodity trading advisors (CTAs), currently have around $26 billion in positions betting on the S&P 500 falling, the largest short position since October 2021.</p><p>Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA) funds, also known as managed futures funds, refer to professional fund managers who use funds entrusted by clients to invest in the global futures and options markets to obtain returns, while also charging corresponding management fees.</p><p>This overly bearish position led Rubner to believe that the rally in the U.S. stock market would continue into April.</p><p>“There’s too much going on on the ‘macro’ side to be confident about trading, but I’m bullish on the stock market in April,” he added.</p><p>Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at market consulting firm Carson Group, agreed with Rubner, especially considering that the U.S. stock market is entering one of the best periods of a four-year presidential term in history.</p><p>“Historically, the average increase in the second quarter of the year before an election is 4.8%, and historically it could be higher 72% of the time.
