Speaking about AMC, she said the risk far outweighs the reward.\n\"This is a company whose management has a voracious appetite for capital -- 104 million shares outstanding a year ago, 513 [million] now. Insiders are selling … and it's got negative earnings to boot,\" Tengler told CNBC's \"Trading Nation\" on Monday. \"I would be a seller as fast as I possibly could at these levels and investors … should be aware of what their largest holdings are in any ETF.\"\nAn upcoming rebalancing for the Russell 2000 on June 25 should minimize some of the risk, according to Ari Wald, head of technical analysis at Oppenheimer.\n\"The rebalancing will take care of that issue for investors on their own. These two stocks are only 2% combined of the Russell 2000 value ETF. So that's the beauty of a diversified ETF, you get a little of that, you get a little of this,\" Wald said during the same interview.\nThe Russell 2000, meanwhile, should continue to drive higher, predicts Wald.\n\"Small caps overall are positioned to break to the upside. As a result, countries like Vietnam and India benefited as companies set up shop there.\nBut the situation is changing, and supply chains could pivot back to China as cases spike in India and Vietnam, according to Zhang Zhiwei, chief economist at Pinpoint Asset Management.\n\nThe Covid-19 resurgence in some parts of Asia could lead to a change in fortunes for China, according to an economist.\nPreviously, the U.S.-China trade war caused companies to move their supply chains out of China, shifting their production and distribution networks for products and services. As a result, countries like Vietnam and India benefited as companies moved to set up shop in their countries.\nBut the situation appears to be changing, and supply chains could pivot back to China as cases spike in India and Vietnam, according to Zhang Zhiwei, chief economist at Pinpoint Asset Management.\n\"Before the pandemic, we saw factories moving out of China — Samsung, Foxconn these big name companies — setting up factories in Vietnam, India,\" he told CNBC's \"Street Signs Asia\" on Monday.\nThe spike in cases in those two countries has forced factories owned by Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn, a major Apple supplier, to shut down facilities in India and Vietnam, he said.\n\"This could put the relocation of supply chains on hold for quite some time. The key issue here is that international travel is suspended, so multinational companies can't send their staff to India and Vietnam to set up new factories,\" Zhang added.\nCases in India surged to record-breaking highs in April andshows little signs of abating significantly—economists have predicted the South Asian economy will likely contract this quarter.\nIn Vietnam, the northern province of Bac Giang on Tuesday ordered four industrial parks — including three that house production facilities of Taiwan's Foxconn— to temporarily shut down due to an outbreak of Covid-19.\nThe situation could benefit China, Zhang suggested. However, he pointed out that the extent of how much China could stand to gain will depend on how long the situation in India and Vietnam continues for.\nRight now, export growth in China is between 20% to 40% a month, he said. If the factories in India and Vietnam return to production very soon, China's exports would be expected to slow down in the second half of the year as companies move their manufacturing to those two countries.\n\"But if supply chain (in India and Vietnam) is disrupted for a long time, we could see this kind of 20%, 30% export growth (in China) to continue into next year,\" Zhang said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":35,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":882147053,"gmtCreate":1631669782672,"gmtModify":1676530604549,"author":{"id":"3581998173257990","authorId":"3581998173257990","name":"kyawkh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b6819d2405688957eac033bb43e588a5","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581998173257990","authorIdStr":"3581998173257990"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool","listText":"Cool","text":"Cool","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/882147053","repostId":"1164586794","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1164586794","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1631668402,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1164586794?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-09-15 09:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Microsoft boosts dividend 11%, sets new $60 billion buyback","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1164586794","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"Microsoft(NASDAQ:MSFT)has announced aboosted dividend and a new share repurchase program.\nShares are","content":"
\n
Microsoft(NASDAQ:MSFT)has announced aboosted dividend and a new share repurchase program.
\n
Shares are up 0.5%after hours.
\n
The company's new $0.62 per share quarterly dividend is up $0.06, or 11%, from last quarter.
\n
Meanwhile it approved a new buyback of up to $60 billion in stock. It’s still an important market, and enterprising investors might considerCoursera(NYSE:COUR) as COUR stock recently became available for public trading.

Sure, there was the hype phase during Coursera’s initial public offering (IPO).

However, the enthusiasm has already worn off and the share price has fallen sharply.

It’s an interesting situation in which the market doesn’t seem fully convinced of Coursera’s value. So, should we listen to the market and avoid COUR stock altogether?

Since Coursera recently released some critical fiscal data, we can just examine the facts and make our own decisions. After all education is the key to success in the long run. I’m sure Coursera would agree.

A Closer Look at COUR Stock

March 31, 2021 was an important day as that’s when COUR stockbecame available for public tradingon the New York Stock Exchange.

The stock was originally expected to be priced between $30 and $33. Coursera ended up setting the offering price at $33, but the stock actually opened for public trading at $39.

That day, COUR stockclosed up 36%at a price of $45. With that, Coursera now had a market capitalization of $5.9 billion.

The rally did continue for a little while longer. On April 7, the stock reached a 52-week high of $62.53.

However, COUR stock declined after that. At the end of the trading day on May 7, the shares were priced at $36.14. It will open today at about $39.

Should the stockholders give up hope and should prospective investors stay away?

Again, we’ll dig deeper and let the data guide us. In doing so, perhaps we can identify reasons to stay the course with Coursera.

Democratizing Education, Profitably

With higher education being so expensive nowadays, I’ve got to give Coursera credit for making college-level learning more accessible to the public.

As co-founder and Chairman Andrew Ng put it, “We started Coursera to democratize access to high-quality education [with a mission] to transform lives through learning.”

There are statistics to demonstrate that Coursera is succeeding in this endeavor. Impressively, more than 200 universities and institutions of learning have worked with Coursera.

And, there’s practically something for everyone who’s interested in adult education. Coursera offers:

more than 4,600 courses

over 1,000 “guided projects” to learn job skills in less than two hours

a variety of professional certification programs

Is all of this translating into revenues? It’s still an important market, and enterprising investors might considerCoursera(NYSE:COUR) as COUR stock recently became available for public trading.Sure, there was the hype phase during Coursera’s initial public offering (IPO).However, the enthusiasm has already worn off and the share price has fallen sharply. It’s an interesting situation in which the market doesn’t seem fully convinced of Coursera’s value. So, should we listen to the market and avoid COUR stock altogether?Since Coursera recently released some critical fiscal data, we can just examine the facts and make our own decisions. After all education is the key to success in the long run. I’m sure Coursera would agree.A Closer Look at COUR StockMarch 31, 2021 was an important day as that’s when COUR stockbecame available for public tradingon the New York Stock Exchange. The stock was originally expected to be priced between $30 and $33. Coursera ended up setting the offering price at $33, but the stock actually opened for public trading at $39.That day, COUR stockclosed up 36%at a price of $45. With that, Coursera now had a market capitalization of $5.9 billion. The rally did continue for a little while longer. On April 7, the stock reached a 52-week high of $62.53.However, COUR stock declined after that. At the end of the trading day on May 7, the shares were priced at $36.14. It will open today at about $39.Should the stockholders give up hope and should prospective investors stay away?Again, we’ll dig deeper and let the data guide us. In doing so, perhaps we can identify reasons to stay the course with Coursera.Democratizing Education, ProfitablyWith higher education being so expensive nowadays, I’ve got to give Coursera credit for making college-level learning more accessible to the public. As co-founder and Chairman Andrew Ng put it, “We started Coursera to democratize access to high-quality education [with a mission] to transform lives through learning.”There are statistics to demonstrate that Coursera is succeeding in this endeavor. Impressively, more than 200 universities and institutions of learning have worked with Coursera. And, there’s practically something for everyone who’s interested in adult education. Coursera offers:more than 4,600 coursesover 1,000 “guided projects” to learn job skills in less than two hoursa variety of professional certification programsIs all of this translating into revenues? I’d say the answer is yes, but don’t just take my word for it.Instead, take the company’s word for it. According to Coursera, the company had over 77 million registered learners on the platform at the end of 2020.Moreover, Coursera claims to have more than 2,000 business customers. If you’re impressed with those figures, it only gets better from here.Embracing Online LearningNot long after the company’s IPO, Coursera posted its first-quarter 2021 fiscal results. If there was any doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic provided a tailwind for Coursera, the company’s quarterly revenues should put that doubt to rest.Specifically, Coursera’sfirst-quarter revenues totaled $88.4 million. That represents a 64% increase on a year-over-year basis. We can break this down into segments:Consumer revenues of $51.9 million, up 61%Enterprise revenues of $24.5 million, up 63%Revenues from degree programs totaling $12 million, up 81%In case that isn’t enough for you, then note that Coursera added five million net new registered learners during the first quarter. But in reality, you don't have to have a master's degree in finance to generate returns that beat those of the average investor. After all, the average investor, according to research by Dalbar, has underperformed the S&P 500 over the past 20 years through the end of 2019, with an average return of just over 4%.
\n
While there is certainly a lot to learn, beginners and those who haven't been able to devote countless hours to studying the market can still top the average investor by just following a few simple concepts.
\n
\n
1. Keep it simple with ETFs
\n
ETFs, or exchange-traded funds, are a great way for investors to get a diversified portfolio of stocks in one investment vehicle. ETFs are baskets of stocks that typically track an index, although there are many that track customized indexes and some that are even actively managed. But while they are diversified, like mutual funds, they trade on exchanges like stocks.
\n
Rather than building a diversified portfolio of stocks complete with growth and value names and stocks that balance each other out to outperform through various market cycles, you can accomplish all this through a few ETFs. You can invest in the biggest technology names through an ETF like the Invesco QQQ, which tracks the Nasdaq 100 index, and maybe balance that out with a broad-market ETF like the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF, which tracks all 3,700-plus stocks on the market, or a large-cap ETF, like the SPDR S&P 500 ETF.
\n
Investing in a few different ETFs, as opposed to a bunch of individual stocks that perhaps you haven't fully researched, will give you a diversified portfolio with access to the top-performing stocks as well as returns that, at worst, match the benchmarks. At best, some well-chosen ETFs can even beat the major benchmarks.
\n
2. Be patient and don't overreact to market volatility
\n
One of the biggest mistakes that the average investor makes is overreacting to market volatility. Invariably, when the market goes down, or suffers a correction, meaning a drop of 10%, many average investors tend to sell to cut their losses. But what they are doing is locking in their losses -- those paper losses only become real losses when you sell. But in reality, you don't have to have a master's degree in finance to generate returns that beat those of the average investor. After all, the average investor, according to research by Dalbar, has underperformed the S&P 500 over the past 20 years through the end of 2019, with an average return of just over 4%.\nWhile there is certainly a lot to learn, beginners and those who haven't been able to devote countless hours to studying the market can still top the average investor by just following a few simple concepts.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. Keep it simple with ETFs\nETFs, or exchange-traded funds, are a great way for investors to get a diversified portfolio of stocks in one investment vehicle. ETFs are baskets of stocks that typically track an index, although there are many that track customized indexes and some that are even actively managed. But while they are diversified, like mutual funds, they trade on exchanges like stocks.\nRather than building a diversified portfolio of stocks complete with growth and value names and stocks that balance each other out to outperform through various market cycles, you can accomplish all this through a few ETFs. You can invest in the biggest technology names through an ETF like the Invesco QQQ, which tracks the Nasdaq 100 index, and maybe balance that out with a broad-market ETF like the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF, which tracks all 3,700-plus stocks on the market, or a large-cap ETF, like the SPDR S&P 500 ETF.\nInvesting in a few different ETFs, as opposed to a bunch of individual stocks that perhaps you haven't fully researched, will give you a diversified portfolio with access to the top-performing stocks as well as returns that, at worst, match the benchmarks. At best, some well-chosen ETFs can even beat the major benchmarks.\n2. Be patient and don't overreact to market volatility\nOne of the biggest mistakes that the average investor makes is overreacting to market volatility. Invariably, when the market goes down, or suffers a correction, meaning a drop of 10%, many average investors tend to sell to cut their losses. But what they are doing is locking in their losses -- those paper losses only become real losses when you sell. If you hold through the volatility, you'll likely regain those losses and then some.\nLook at last year as a prime example. The market dropped about 33% in a span of about a month, finishing its drop on March 16. If you sold stocks on March 16 when the S&P 500 plunged to around 2,300, you locked in that 33% loss. But if you held on, well, the S&P 500 is now over 4,200 in a little over a year -- so you do the math.\nConversely, it is also just as important not to chase returns. Many investors see a stock surge and buy in to ride the wave, but what they are often doing is buying high. They likely missed out on the catalyst that caused the surge, and now have a stock that has plateaued or will drop. That then leads to the vicious circle of getting frustrated and dumping at the drop -- in effect buying high and selling low. Been there, done that.\n3. Think long-term and have a goal\nAnother mistake the average investor makes is trying to time the market, meaning buying low and selling high. This strategy rarely works for the average investor. If you are investing in stocks for short-term profit, you are missing the big picture.\nWhether you are investing in a portfolio of individual stocks or ETFs, you should go in with a mindset that you are in it for the long term to ride out the market volatility. If you set goals for your investments, the long-term focus is built in. If you are investing for college costs 15 years down the road, then stick to that plan. Speculation that the next iPhone will have satellite capabilities ramped up this week after TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the phone will probably work with spectrum owned by Globalstar Inc.
\n
That’s led to conjecture that the iPhone will become something akin to a satellite phone, freeing users from having to rely on cell networks. But Apple’s plan is initially more limited in scope, according to the person, with the focus on helping customers handle crisis scenarios.
\n
And though the next iPhone could have the hardware needed for satellite communications, the features are unlikely to be ready before next year, said another person, who asked not to be identified because the plans aren’t yet public. The features could also change or be scrapped before they’re released.
\n
An Apple representative declined to comment.
\n
The first component, dubbed Emergency Message via Satellite, will let users text emergency services and contacts over a satellite network when there’s no cell signal available. That feature will be integrated into the Messages app as a third protocol -- alongside the standard SMS and iMessage -- and appear with gray message bubbles instead of green or blue. The second feature will be a tool to report major emergencies, such as plane crashes and sinking ships, also using satellite networks.
\n
The texting-via-satellite tool, codenamed Stewie inside Apple, will restrict messages to a shorter length. The texts will automatically push through to an emergency contact’s phone, even if the do-not-disturb setting is on. One planned design will let a user send the message by typing “Emergency SOS” where they would usually input a contact name. In addition to delivering texts, the service may eventually be able to handle some phone calls too.
\n
Such an option will be useful in areas such as mountains or remote lakes, where 4G or 5G coverage may be unavailable. As part of its broader efforts, Apple has even considered eventually deploying its own satellites, but this feature is likely to rely on existing networks.
\n
The second emergency feature is focused on letting users report a crisis. The phone will ask what kind of emergency is happening, such as whether it involves a car, boat, plane or fire.
\n
The system is also able to take more specific information, such as a person falling overboard or a ship sinking. It will ask a user if search and rescue services are needed, if there is suspicious behavior or weapons involved, and if a person has suffered a traumatic injury.
\n
When reaching emergency services, the feature can send a user’s location and Medical ID, a virtual card in the Health app with a list of a user’s medical history, age, medications, and information like height and weight. It can also a notify a user’s emergency contacts, typically a person’s family, friends or doctors.
\n
It’s unclear which emergency services or providers the system would tap into. The set of features would compete with the Garmin inReach device, which lets users send short messages or an SOS over satellite networks.
\n
Both features are, of course, dependent on satellite availability and local regulations. They’re not designed to work in every country, and Apple has created a mechanism that will ask users to be outdoors and walk in a certain direction to help the iPhone connect to a satellite. Linking to a network also won’t always be instantaneous, with testing of the feature indicating that it could sometimes take up to one minute to work.
\n
To connect to satellites, Apple will need a special chip. While the company is developing its own custom cellular modems for use in the coming years, it still plans to rely on a Qualcomm Inc. modem in the near term.
\n
Speculation that the next iPhone will have satellite capabilities sent shares of Globalstar soaring on Monday. That company previously said it had signed an agreement with an unidentified party to develop a new service -- a disclosure that some now believe is evidence that it’s Apple’s partner.
\n
Apple isn’t teaming up with Globalstar rival Iridium Communications Inc. on the effort, people familiar with matter said. And Omnispace LLC, another satellite company, hasn’t yet committed to building systems that could support such services, said industry analyst Tim Farrar.
\n
Apple plans to debut its latest iPhones as early as the middle of next month. Beyond the possible satellite functionality, the company plans to include a narrower display cutout with an updated Face ID system and a faster processor. The new model also will have significant camera hardware and software upgrades.
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Plans to Add Satellite Features to iPhones for Emergencies
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nApple Plans to Add Satellite Features to iPhones for Emergencies\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-31 05:44 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
(Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc.’s push to bring satellite capabilities to the iPhone will be focused on emergency situations, allowing users to send texts to first responders and report crashes in areas ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/055c4217dd4a625fcc87242f26885514","relate_stocks":{"GRMN":"佳明","QCOM":"高通","IRDM":"铱星通讯","AAPL":"苹果"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/apple-plans-add-satellite-features-214430167.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5f26f4a48f9cb3e29be4d71d3ba8c038","article_id":"2163835600","content_text":"(Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc.’s push to bring satellite capabilities to the iPhone will be focused on emergency situations, allowing users to send texts to first responders and report crashes in areas without cellular coverage.\nThe company is developing at least two related emergency features that will rely on satellite networks, aiming to release them in future iPhones, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.\nApple has been working on satellite technology for years, with a team exploring the concept since at least 2017, Bloomberg has reported. In addition to delivering texts, the service may eventually be able to handle some phone calls too.\nSuch an option will be useful in areas such as mountains or remote lakes, where 4G or 5G coverage may be unavailable. As part of its broader efforts, Apple has even considered eventually deploying its own satellites, but this feature is likely to rely on existing networks.\nThe second emergency feature is focused on letting users report a crisis. The phone will ask what kind of emergency is happening, such as whether it involves a car, boat, plane or fire.\nThe system is also able to take more specific information, such as a person falling overboard or a ship sinking. It will ask a user if search and rescue services are needed, if there is suspicious behavior or weapons involved, and if a person has suffered a traumatic injury.\nWhen reaching emergency services, the feature can send a user’s location and Medical ID, a virtual card in the Health app with a list of a user’s medical history, age, medications, and information like height and weight. It can also a notify a user’s emergency contacts, typically a person’s family, friends or doctors.\nIt’s unclear which emergency services or providers the system would tap into. The set of features would compete with the Garmin inReach device, which lets users send short messages or an SOS over satellite networks.\nBoth features are, of course, dependent on satellite availability and local regulations. They’re not designed to work in every country, and Apple has created a mechanism that will ask users to be outdoors and walk in a certain direction to help the iPhone connect to a satellite. Linking to a network also won’t always be instantaneous, with testing of the feature indicating that it could sometimes take up to one minute to work.\nTo connect to satellites, Apple will need a special chip. While the company is developing its own custom cellular modems for use in the coming years, it still plans to rely on a Qualcomm Inc. modem in the near term.\nSpeculation that the next iPhone will have satellite capabilities sent shares of Globalstar soaring on Monday. That company previously said it had signed an agreement with an unidentified party to develop a new service -- a disclosure that some now believe is evidence that it’s Apple’s partner.\nApple isn’t teaming up with Globalstar rival Iridium Communications Inc. on the effort, people familiar with matter said. And Omnispace LLC, another satellite company, hasn’t yet committed to building systems that could support such services, said industry analyst Tim Farrar.\nApple plans to debut its latest iPhones as early as the middle of next month. Beyond the possible satellite functionality, the company plans to include a narrower display cutout with an updated Face ID system and a faster processor. The new model also will have significant camera hardware and software upgrades.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":39,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":892766549,"gmtCreate":1628690268281,"gmtModify":1676529822628,"author":{"id":"3581998173257990","authorId":"3581998173257990","name":"kyawkh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b6819d2405688957eac033bb43e588a5","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581998173257990","authorIdStr":"3581998173257990"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/892766549","repostId":"2158821262","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2158821262","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1628688540,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2158821262?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-08-11 21:29","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Citigroup tries hand as matchmaker for U.S. small businesses and local banks","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2158821262","media":"Reuters","summary":"Aug 11 (Reuters) - $Citigroup Inc(C-N)$ is launching a pilot service to digitally match U.S. small- ","content":"
Aug 11 (Reuters) - $Citigroup Inc(C-N)$ is launching a pilot service to digitally match U.S. small- and medium-sized businesses with local and regional banks willing to lend them up to $10 million.
\n
Citigroup, the third-biggest U.S. bank by assets, said it started the pilot on Wednesday with 18 banks in states in the Southeast, plus Texas, Colorado and Nebraska.
\n
The service was developed out of a Citigroup innovation lab and the pilot phase will not earn any fees or interest revenue for the bank, said Rohit Mathur, a Citigroup senior vice president and a leader of the effort.
\n
\"We want to see how the borrowers and lenders interact,\" Mathur said. \"We're hoping to have good responses and we'll use the data to decide what we do next.\"
\n
Among big banks, Citigroup has relatively few U.S. branches, with 659 concentrated in six big cities. $Bank of America Corp(BAC-N)$, JPMorgan Chase & Co and Wells Fargo & Co each have more than 4,000 branches spread throughout the country.
\n
Citigroup has saved money by cutting back on branch buildings and staff in favor of offering deposit and credit card accounts online. The lockdown that will remain in effect until mid June has raised concerns over the full-year growth target.\"Since February, the external economic environment has improved, even though the pandemic continues to disrupt activities in many economies and threatens to undermine any recovery,\" it said.\"While the recent tightening of domestic restrictions and border controls represents a setback to segments of the economy, the broader economy should still see a recovery this year in tandem with the global economic rebound and further progress in the domestic vaccination programme.\"The performance of the economy in the first quarter of 2021 was stronger than expected. The final estimate for first-quarter growth came at 1.3 per cent on a yearly basis, compared to an earlier estimate of 0.2 per cent and the 2.4 per cent contraction in the previous quarter. The January-March growth was even higher than the 0.9 per cent growth projected by economists in a Reuters poll.On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally-adjusted basis, the economy grew by 3.1 per cent, extending the 3.8 per cent expansion in the fourth quarter of last year. The first quarter growth came on the back of the manufacturing sector's 10.7 per cent year-on-year expansion, faster than the 10.3 per cent growth recorded in the previous quarter.MTI said the Jan-March growth was due to output expansions in the electronics, precision engineering and chemicals clusters, which outweighed output declines in transport engineering, general manufacturing and biomedical manufacturing. The wholesale trade sector expanded by 3.5 per cent year-on-year, faster than the 1.8 per cent growth registered in the previous quarter, and the retail trade sector grew by 1.4 per cent.Growth of the information & communications sector accelerated to 6.4 per cent year-on-year, from the 2.6 per cent achieved in the previous quarter. However, the construction sector contracted by 22.7 per cent and the transportation and storage sector shrank by 16.5 per cent, compared with the same period last year. The food & beverage services sector contracted by 9.4 per cent year-on-year.MTI said that it is still possible that the Singapore economy will outperform the 4-6 per cent growth forecast for 2021, there are also significant downside risks, with the most important being the trajectory of the pandemic.\"Countries are experiencing recurring waves of infections, with the emergence of more transmissible strains of the virus, the easing of safe management restrictions, and delays in vaccinating populations.\"The ministry said these resurgences, as well as the countries' public health responses to them, will inevitably affect their economic growth.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":141,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":191344764,"gmtCreate":1620860836558,"gmtModify":1704349339340,"author":{"id":"3581998173257990","authorId":"3581998173257990","name":"kyawkh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b6819d2405688957eac033bb43e588a5","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581998173257990","authorIdStr":"3581998173257990"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hopefully..","listText":"Hopefully..","text":"Hopefully..","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/191344764","repostId":"1145231490","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1145231490","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1620832810,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1145231490?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-12 23:20","market":"us","language":"en","title":"AMC Stock Didn’t Have the Q1 Some People Seem to Think It Did","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1145231490","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"Don't assume that there will be a sustained relief rally in AMC stock.\n\nIt could be said that movie-","content":"
\n Don't assume that there will be a sustained relief rally in AMC stock.\n
\n
It could be said that movie-theater chainAMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC) stock is the ultimate beneficiary of the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. Or at least, that’s what some AMC stockholders are hoping for.
\n
Source: Helen89 / Shutterstock.com
\n
Granted, AMChas reopenednearly all of its theaters in North America. Moreover, the company is gradually bringing moviegoers back to cinemas in Europe.
\n
On the other hand, AMC CEOAdam Aron has admitted that the company nearly filed for bankruptcy five times during the Covid-19 pandemic.
\n
As the old expression goes, we’re not out of the woods yet. The recovery process from a once-in-a-generation black-swan event won’t be easy. And that leads us to another old expression: let the buyer beware.
\n
A Closer Look at AMC Stock
\n
AMC Entertainment reported its first-quarter fiscal data on May 6, and we’ll certainly dive into the details of that.
\n
First, though, I’d like to put a microscope to the market’s reaction to the earnings report.
\n
The following trading day, AMC stock jumped 5.67%, closing at $9.51. That’s a pretty clear signal from the market that it felt good about the company’s financial results.
\n
At the same time, investors should know that the company’s trailing 12-month earnings per share is -$15.60. That’s not great, especially for a stock trading today around $10..
\n
With that in mind, let’s rewind a bit. Back in mid-January, AMC stock was trading at around $2.
\n
Then the Reddit crowd pounced on it, and the share price quickly rocketed to a 52-week high of $20.36.
\n
Sensible minds advised caution at that time, but their warnings often fell upon deaf ears. By mid-February, the stock price had declined to $5 and change.
\n
Since that time, AMC stock has wiggled and wobbled in both directions. Clearly, this isn’t a stock that anyone should pour his or her life savings into. Small position sizes should be the rule, not the exception.
\n
Sorry, Not a Winner
\n
If you only look at the market’s reaction to AMC’s first-quarter data release, you might assume that it was a winning quarter in terms of earnings.
\n
However, that’s not the case. Or at least, that’s what some AMC stockholders are hoping for.\nSource: Helen89 / Shutterstock.com\nGranted, AMChas reopenednearly all of its theaters in North America. Moreover, the company is gradually bringing moviegoers back to cinemas in Europe.\nOn the other hand, AMC CEOAdam Aron has admitted that the company nearly filed for bankruptcy five times during the Covid-19 pandemic.\nAs the old expression goes, we’re not out of the woods yet. The recovery process from a once-in-a-generation black-swan event won’t be easy. And that leads us to another old expression: let the buyer beware.\nA Closer Look at AMC Stock\nAMC Entertainment reported its first-quarter fiscal data on May 6, and we’ll certainly dive into the details of that.\nFirst, though, I’d like to put a microscope to the market’s reaction to the earnings report.\nThe following trading day, AMC stock jumped 5.67%, closing at $9.51. That’s a pretty clear signal from the market that it felt good about the company’s financial results.\nAt the same time, investors should know that the company’s trailing 12-month earnings per share is -$15.60. That’s not great, especially for a stock trading today around $10..\nWith that in mind, let’s rewind a bit. Back in mid-January, AMC stock was trading at around $2.\nThen the Reddit crowd pounced on it, and the share price quickly rocketed to a 52-week high of $20.36.\nSensible minds advised caution at that time, but their warnings often fell upon deaf ears. By mid-February, the stock price had declined to $5 and change.\nSince that time, AMC stock has wiggled and wobbled in both directions. Clearly, this isn’t a stock that anyone should pour his or her life savings into. Small position sizes should be the rule, not the exception.\nSorry, Not a Winner\nIf you only look at the market’s reaction to AMC’s first-quarter data release, you might assume that it was a winning quarter in terms of earnings.\nHowever, that’s not the case. As it turns out, AMC reported a first-quarter loss of $567.2 million, which translates to $1.42 a share. Analysts, on average, were expecting the company to lose $1.31 per share.\nSo, that was a “miss” for AMC. The quarterly revenues were also a “miss” as the company reported $148.3 million, versus the analysts’ average forecast of $156.3 million in revenues.\nTo use percentages instead of dollar amounts, AMC’s first-quarter revenuesfell by a whopping 84.3%on a year-over-year basis. Furthermore, the company sustained an 88.8% decline in attendance due to the Covid-19 pandemic.\nQuoting Churchill?\nUnder normal circumstances, the foregoing stats should induce a share-price decline. But then, we’d be hard-pressed to find evidence that these are “normal” circumstances.\nPossibly, the market reacted positively to Aron’s statement during the conference call that “our market share in the United States has soared, increasing by about 25% compared to prepandemic levels.”\nThat’s impressive, but for me, the revenues are the top line and the earnings are the bottom line.\nIt’s fine to see butts in seats, but an investor should want to see dollars in hand. Again, recall the -$15.60 per share trailing 12-month earnings I cited earlier.\nI don’t know about you, but I wasn’t too pleased with the CEO quoting Winston Churchill during the conference call:\n\n “‘This is not the end. It not even the beginning of the end. But it is perhaps the end of the beginning.’… “Sir Winston won his titanic fight. I believe that AMC will win our war too.”\n\nI won’t dare say that Aron is arrogant, or that he’s starting to lose his mind. The pandemic has been hard on all of us, so I’ll give him a pass, this time.\nThe Bottom Line\nChurchill quote gaffe aside, I’m having trouble developing a solid bull thesis in favor of AMC stock.\nTherefore, my recommendation is to grab some popcorn, ease the seat back, and enjoy the presentation as a spectator.\nOn the date of publication, David Moadel did not have (either directly or indirectly) any positions in the securities mentioned in this article.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":115,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":815856618,"gmtCreate":1630669008834,"gmtModify":1676530371309,"author":{"id":"3581998173257990","authorId":"3581998173257990","name":"kyawkh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b6819d2405688957eac033bb43e588a5","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581998173257990","authorIdStr":"3581998173257990"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$BIT Mining Limited(BTCM)$omg","listText":"$BIT Mining Limited(BTCM)$omg","text":"$BIT Mining Limited(BTCM)$omg","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6f42e533d0e6af4e9aa17714f3e9cfc8","width":"1440","height":"2712"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/815856618","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":75,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
