Speaking about AMC, she said the risk far outweighs the reward.\n\"This is a company whose management has a voracious appetite for capital -- 104 million shares outstanding a year ago, 513 [million] now. Insiders are selling … and it's got negative earnings to boot,\" Tengler told CNBC's \"Trading Nation\" on Monday. \"I would be a seller as fast as I possibly could at these levels and investors … should be aware of what their largest holdings are in any ETF.\"\nAn upcoming rebalancing for the Russell 2000 on June 25 should minimize some of the risk, according to Ari Wald, head of technical analysis at Oppenheimer.\n\"The rebalancing will take care of that issue for investors on their own. These two stocks are only 2% combined of the Russell 2000 value ETF. So that's the beauty of a diversified ETF, you get a little of that, you get a little of this,\" Wald said during the same interview.\nThe Russell 2000, meanwhile, should continue to drive higher, predicts Wald.\n\"Small caps overall are positioned to break to the upside. We were on the show a couple weeks ago talking about an early summer rally. The Russell 2000 has formed a coiled spring. It appears to be breaking to the upside. As a result, countries like Vietnam and India benefited as companies set up shop there.\nBut the situation is changing, and supply chains could pivot back to China as cases spike in India and Vietnam, according to Zhang Zhiwei, chief economist at Pinpoint Asset Management.\n\nThe Covid-19 resurgence in some parts of Asia could lead to a change in fortunes for China, according to an economist.\nPreviously, the U.S.-China trade war caused companies to move their supply chains out of China, shifting their production and distribution networks for products and services. As a result, countries like Vietnam and India benefited as companies moved to set up shop in their countries.\nBut the situation appears to be changing, and supply chains could pivot back to China as cases spike in India and Vietnam, according to Zhang Zhiwei, chief economist at Pinpoint Asset Management.\n\"Before the pandemic, we saw factories moving out of China — Samsung, Foxconn these big name companies — setting up factories in Vietnam, India,\" he told CNBC's \"Street Signs Asia\" on Monday.\nThe spike in cases in those two countries has forced factories owned by Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn, a major Apple supplier, to shut down facilities in India and Vietnam, he said.\n\"This could put the relocation of supply chains on hold for quite some time. The key issue here is that international travel is suspended, so multinational companies can't send their staff to India and Vietnam to set up new factories,\" Zhang added.\nCases in India surged to record-breaking highs in April andshows little signs of abating significantly—economists have predicted the South Asian economy will likely contract this quarter.\nIn Vietnam, the northern province of Bac Giang on Tuesday ordered four industrial parks — including three that house production facilities of Taiwan's Foxconn— to temporarily shut down due to an outbreak of Covid-19.\nThe situation could benefit China, Zhang suggested. However, he pointed out that the extent of how much China could stand to gain will depend on how long the situation in India and Vietnam continues for.\nRight now, export growth in China is between 20% to 40% a month, he said. If the factories in India and Vietnam return to production very soon, China's exports would be expected to slow down in the second half of the year as companies move their manufacturing to those two countries.\n\"But if supply chain (in India and Vietnam) is disrupted for a long time, we could see this kind of 20%, 30% export growth (in China) to continue into next year,\" Zhang said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":28,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":882147053,"gmtCreate":1631669782672,"gmtModify":1676530604549,"author":{"id":"3581998173257990","authorId":"3581998173257990","name":"kyawkh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b6819d2405688957eac033bb43e588a5","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581998173257990","authorIdStr":"3581998173257990"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cool","listText":"Cool","text":"Cool","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/882147053","repostId":"1164586794","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1164586794","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1631668402,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1164586794?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-09-15 09:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Microsoft boosts dividend 11%, sets new $60 billion buyback","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1164586794","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"Microsoft(NASDAQ:MSFT)has announced aboosted dividend and a new share repurchase program.\nShares are","content":"
\n
Microsoft(NASDAQ:MSFT)has announced aboosted dividend and a new share repurchase program.
\n
Shares are up 0.5%after hours.
\n
The company's new $0.62 per share quarterly dividend is up $0.06, or 11%, from last quarter.
\n
Meanwhile it approved a new buyback of up to $60 billion in stock. It’s still an important market, and enterprising investors might considerCoursera(NYSE:COUR) as COUR stock recently became available for public trading.

Sure, there was the hype phase during Coursera’s initial public offering (IPO).

However, the enthusiasm has already worn off and the share price has fallen sharply.

It’s an interesting situation in which the market doesn’t seem fully convinced of Coursera’s value. So, should we listen to the market and avoid COUR stock altogether?

Since Coursera recently released some critical fiscal data, we can just examine the facts and make our own decisions. After all education is the key to success in the long run. I’m sure Coursera would agree.

A Closer Look at COUR Stock

March 31, 2021 was an important day as that’s when COUR stockbecame available for public tradingon the New York Stock Exchange.

The stock was originally expected to be priced between $30 and $33. Coursera ended up setting the offering price at $33, but the stock actually opened for public trading at $39.

That day, COUR stockclosed up 36%at a price of $45. With that, Coursera now had a market capitalization of $5.9 billion.

The rally did continue for a little while longer. On April 7, the stock reached a 52-week high of $62.53.

However, COUR stock declined after that. At the end of the trading day on May 7, the shares were priced at $36.14. It will open today at about $39.

Should the stockholders give up hope and should prospective investors stay away?

Again, we’ll dig deeper and let the data guide us. In doing so, perhaps we can identify reasons to stay the course with Coursera.

Democratizing Education, Profitably

With higher education being so expensive nowadays, I’ve got to give Coursera credit for making college-level learning more accessible to the public.

As co-founder and Chairman Andrew Ng put it, “We started Coursera to democratize access to high-quality education [with a mission] to transform lives through learning.”

There are statistics to demonstrate that Coursera is succeeding in this endeavor. Impressively, more than 200 universities and institutions of learning have worked with Coursera.

And, there’s practically something for everyone who’s interested in adult education. Coursera offers:

more than 4,600 courses

over 1,000 “guided projects” to learn job skills in less than two hours

a variety of professional certification programs

Is all of this translating into revenues? It’s still an important market, and enterprising investors might considerCoursera(NYSE:COUR) as COUR stock recently became available for public trading.Sure, there was the hype phase during Coursera’s initial public offering (IPO).However, the enthusiasm has already worn off and the share price has fallen sharply. It’s an interesting situation in which the market doesn’t seem fully convinced of Coursera’s value. So, should we listen to the market and avoid COUR stock altogether?Since Coursera recently released some critical fiscal data, we can just examine the facts and make our own decisions. After all education is the key to success in the long run. I’m sure Coursera would agree.A Closer Look at COUR StockMarch 31, 2021 was an important day as that’s when COUR stockbecame available for public tradingon the New York Stock Exchange. The stock was originally expected to be priced between $30 and $33. Coursera ended up setting the offering price at $33, but the stock actually opened for public trading at $39.That day, COUR stockclosed up 36%at a price of $45. With that, Coursera now had a market capitalization of $5.9 billion. The rally did continue for a little while longer. On April 7, the stock reached a 52-week high of $62.53.However, COUR stock declined after that. At the end of the trading day on May 7, the shares were priced at $36.14. It will open today at about $39.Should the stockholders give up hope and should prospective investors stay away?Again, we’ll dig deeper and let the data guide us. In doing so, perhaps we can identify reasons to stay the course with Coursera.Democratizing Education, ProfitablyWith higher education being so expensive nowadays, I’ve got to give Coursera credit for making college-level learning more accessible to the public. As co-founder and Chairman Andrew Ng put it, “We started Coursera to democratize access to high-quality education [with a mission] to transform lives through learning.”There are statistics to demonstrate that Coursera is succeeding in this endeavor. Impressively, more than 200 universities and institutions of learning have worked with Coursera. And, there’s practically something for everyone who’s interested in adult education. Coursera offers:more than 4,600 coursesover 1,000 “guided projects” to learn job skills in less than two hoursa variety of professional certification programsIs all of this translating into revenues? I’d say the answer is yes, but don’t just take my word for it.Instead, take the company’s word for it. According to Coursera, the company had over 77 million registered learners on the platform at the end of 2020.Moreover, Coursera claims to have more than 2,000 business customers. If you’re impressed with those figures, it only gets better from here.Embracing Online LearningNot long after the company’s IPO, Coursera posted its first-quarter 2021 fiscal results. If there was any doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic provided a tailwind for Coursera, the company’s quarterly revenues should put that doubt to rest.Specifically, Coursera’sfirst-quarter revenues totaled $88.4 million. That represents a 64% increase on a year-over-year basis. We can break this down into segments:Consumer revenues of $51.9 million, up 61%Enterprise revenues of $24.5 million, up 63%Revenues from degree programs totaling $12 million, up 81%In case that isn’t enough for you, then note that Coursera added five million net new registered learners during the first quarter. But in reality, you don't have to have a master's degree in finance to generate returns that beat those of the average investor. After all, the average investor, according to research by Dalbar, has underperformed the S&P 500 over the past 20 years through the end of 2019, with an average return of just over 4%.
\n
While there is certainly a lot to learn, beginners and those who haven't been able to devote countless hours to studying the market can still top the average investor by just following a few simple concepts.
\n
\n
1. Keep it simple with ETFs
\n
ETFs, or exchange-traded funds, are a great way for investors to get a diversified portfolio of stocks in one investment vehicle. ETFs are baskets of stocks that typically track an index, although there are many that track customized indexes and some that are even actively managed. But while they are diversified, like mutual funds, they trade on exchanges like stocks.
\n
Rather than building a diversified portfolio of stocks complete with growth and value names and stocks that balance each other out to outperform through various market cycles, you can accomplish all this through a few ETFs. You can invest in the biggest technology names through an ETF like the Invesco QQQ, which tracks the Nasdaq 100 index, and maybe balance that out with a broad-market ETF like the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF, which tracks all 3,700-plus stocks on the market, or a large-cap ETF, like the SPDR S&P 500 ETF.
\n
Investing in a few different ETFs, as opposed to a bunch of individual stocks that perhaps you haven't fully researched, will give you a diversified portfolio with access to the top-performing stocks as well as returns that, at worst, match the benchmarks. At best, some well-chosen ETFs can even beat the major benchmarks.
\n
2. Be patient and don't overreact to market volatility
\n
One of the biggest mistakes that the average investor makes is overreacting to market volatility. Invariably, when the market goes down, or suffers a correction, meaning a drop of 10%, many average investors tend to sell to cut their losses. But what they are doing is locking in their losses -- those paper losses only become real losses when you sell. If you hold through the volatility, you'll likely regain those losses and then some.
\n
Look at last year as a prime example. The market dropped about 33% in a span of about a month, finishing its drop on March 16. If you sold stocks on March 16 when the S&P 500 plunged to around 2,300, you locked in that 33% loss. But if you held on, well, the S&P 500 is now over 4,200 in a little over a year -- so you do the math.
\n
Conversely, it is also just as important not to chase returns. Many investors see a stock surge and buy in to ride the wave, but what they are often doing is buying high. They likely missed out on the catalyst that caused the surge, and now have a stock that has plateaued or will drop. That then leads to the vicious circle of getting frustrated and dumping at the drop -- in effect buying high and selling low. Been there, done that.
\n
3. Think long-term and have a goal
\n
Another mistake the average investor makes is trying to time the market, meaning buying low and selling high. This strategy rarely works for the average investor. If you are investing in stocks for short-term profit, you are missing the big picture.
\n
Whether you are investing in a portfolio of individual stocks or ETFs, you should go in with a mindset that you are in it for the long term to ride out the market volatility. If you set goals for your investments, the long-term focus is built in. If you are investing for college costs 15 years down the road, then stick to that plan. If you are investing for retirement in 25 years, then invest with that in mind.
\n
Your best opportunity to build wealth is to invest in good companies over the long haul, taking advantage of not only solid annual returns, but compounding dividend reinvestment and ongoing contributions to make your money work for you. But in reality, you don't have to have a master's degree in finance to generate returns that beat those of the average investor. After all, the average investor, according to research by Dalbar, has underperformed the S&P 500 over the past 20 years through the end of 2019, with an average return of just over 4%.\nWhile there is certainly a lot to learn, beginners and those who haven't been able to devote countless hours to studying the market can still top the average investor by just following a few simple concepts.\nImage source: Getty Images.\n1. Keep it simple with ETFs\nETFs, or exchange-traded funds, are a great way for investors to get a diversified portfolio of stocks in one investment vehicle. ETFs are baskets of stocks that typically track an index, although there are many that track customized indexes and some that are even actively managed. But while they are diversified, like mutual funds, they trade on exchanges like stocks.\nRather than building a diversified portfolio of stocks complete with growth and value names and stocks that balance each other out to outperform through various market cycles, you can accomplish all this through a few ETFs. You can invest in the biggest technology names through an ETF like the Invesco QQQ, which tracks the Nasdaq 100 index, and maybe balance that out with a broad-market ETF like the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF, which tracks all 3,700-plus stocks on the market, or a large-cap ETF, like the SPDR S&P 500 ETF.\nInvesting in a few different ETFs, as opposed to a bunch of individual stocks that perhaps you haven't fully researched, will give you a diversified portfolio with access to the top-performing stocks as well as returns that, at worst, match the benchmarks. At best, some well-chosen ETFs can even beat the major benchmarks.\n2. Be patient and don't overreact to market volatility\nOne of the biggest mistakes that the average investor makes is overreacting to market volatility. Invariably, when the market goes down, or suffers a correction, meaning a drop of 10%, many average investors tend to sell to cut their losses. But what they are doing is locking in their losses -- those paper losses only become real losses when you sell. If you hold through the volatility, you'll likely regain those losses and then some.\nLook at last year as a prime example. The market dropped about 33% in a span of about a month, finishing its drop on March 16. If you sold stocks on March 16 when the S&P 500 plunged to around 2,300, you locked in that 33% loss. But if you held on, well, the S&P 500 is now over 4,200 in a little over a year -- so you do the math.\nConversely, it is also just as important not to chase returns. Been there, done that.\n3. Think long-term and have a goal\nAnother mistake the average investor makes is trying to time the market, meaning buying low and selling high. This strategy rarely works for the average investor. If you are investing in stocks for short-term profit, you are missing the big picture.\nWhether you are investing in a portfolio of individual stocks or ETFs, you should go in with a mindset that you are in it for the long term to ride out the market volatility. If you set goals for your investments, the long-term focus is built in. If you are investing for college costs 15 years down the road, then stick to that plan. Chairman Osamu Nagayama will seek to convince shareholders Friday he deserves another chance to try and overhaul the 145-year-old nuclear energy to electronics conglomerate.
\n
The 74-year-old is trying to win enough investor votes to stay at the helm of the crisis-stricken Japanese icon, which is under fire from corporate governance experts after an independent investigation uncovered alleged collusion with top government officials to influence last year’s board selection. On Friday, shareholders meet in Tokyo to vote on his and several other directors’ re-appointment, and analysts expect Nagayama to squeeze through by a narrow margin.
\n
The report was a rare public account of how Japan’s bureaucrats allegedly coordinated with a private company to exert control over foreign shareholders, and intensified the controversy surrounding a manufacturer roiled by accounting scandals, business missteps and the departure of its chief executive officer. Effissimo Capital Management Pte., Toshiba’s largest shareholder, said the report shows the Japanese company has “dysfunctional” corporate governance and an “ineffective” board of directors.
\n
“As the chairperson my priority is to provide Toshiba with the governance and leadership that you deserve,” Nagayama said in a letter to shareholders last week. “I pledge to you that I will continue to be an agent of positive change, not a protector of the status quo.”
\n
Toshiba doesn’t disclose how shareholders have exercised their votes ahead of the meeting, a company representative said.
\n
Once a storied name in Japan, Toshiba has faded dramatically since its glory days after years of management missteps. It paid a record fine in an accounting scandal and then lost billions on a bungled foray into nuclear power. The conglomerate invented flash memory three decades ago, but was forced to sell most of its prized chip business in 2018 because of losses in its nuclear-power operation. That deal led to an infusion of cash -- but also a large contingent of more vocal shareholders.
\n
Nagayama has vowed to bring in new board members to improve corporate governance, and Toshiba said this month it’s dropping two existing directors. Yet the chairman argued in his letter that the company needs a rapid rebuild rather than a reformation of the board.
\n
Outside lawyers appointed by Effissimo reported that Toshiba had teamed up with the Japanese government to repel activists and press shareholders not to act against management. The report mainly criticized former CEO Nobuaki Kurumatani, but stakeholders have also cast doubt on whether Nagayama fulfilled his duty as the chairman.
\n
Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, State Board of Administration of Florida and Calvert Research and Management are among shareholders who’ve disclosed they’re voting against Nagayama’s re-election. Toshiba’s management is “outdated” and its corporate governance needs improvement, said Chieko Matsuda, a professor at Tokyo Metropolitan University.
\n
“If he ends up approved, that would only be investors judging it’s not the best to hunt them all down at once,” said Shin Ushijima, president of Japan Corporate Governance Network. “Foreign investors are skeptical that he may not have done what he should have done.”
\n
But shareholders including California State Teachers’ Retirement System have indicated they are voting for Nagayama’s re-election. Nagayama’s backers point to his track record as a leader of Chugai Pharmaceutical Co. and an outside director at Sony Group Corp., with his departure only inviting further confusion.
\n
What Bloomberg Intelligence Says
\n
Toshiba’s governance may now improve allowing the company to focus on growth, following the results of an independent probe into last year’s shareholder meeting that found it attempted to influence a key vote. With the investigation complete, it could now concentrate on technologies such as quantum key distribution, which could add 10% to its implied medium-term operating profit target of 400 billion yen by 2030, in our view.
\n
- Takeshi Kitaura and Ian Ma, analysts
\n
“He was open to change, provided strong and steady decision making, and made an invaluable contribution to Sony overcoming a difficult period and finding its way back to shareholder value creation,” John Roos, the former U.S. ambassador to Japan who worked with Nagayama on Sony’s board, said in a statement through a Toshiba spokeswoman last week.
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Toshiba Chairman Faces Vote for Survival as Opposition Grows
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nToshiba Chairman Faces Vote for Survival as Opposition Grows\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-24 08:52 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
(Bloomberg) -- Toshiba Corp. The lockdown that will remain in effect until mid June has raised concerns over the full-year growth target.\"Since February, the external economic environment has improved, even though the pandemic continues to disrupt activities in many economies and threatens to undermine any recovery,\" it said.\"While the recent tightening of domestic restrictions and border controls represents a setback to segments of the economy, the broader economy should still see a recovery this year in tandem with the global economic rebound and further progress in the domestic vaccination programme.\"The performance of the economy in the first quarter of 2021 was stronger than expected. The final estimate for first-quarter growth came at 1.3 per cent on a yearly basis, compared to an earlier estimate of 0.2 per cent and the 2.4 per cent contraction in the previous quarter. The January-March growth was even higher than the 0.9 per cent growth projected by economists in a Reuters poll.On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally-adjusted basis, the economy grew by 3.1 per cent, extending the 3.8 per cent expansion in the fourth quarter of last year. The first quarter growth came on the back of the manufacturing sector's 10.7 per cent year-on-year expansion, faster than the 10.3 per cent growth recorded in the previous quarter.MTI said the Jan-March growth was due to output expansions in the electronics, precision engineering and chemicals clusters, which outweighed output declines in transport engineering, general manufacturing and biomedical manufacturing. The wholesale trade sector expanded by 3.5 per cent year-on-year, faster than the 1.8 per cent growth registered in the previous quarter, and the retail trade sector grew by 1.4 per cent.Growth of the information & communications sector accelerated to 6.4 per cent year-on-year, from the 2.6 per cent achieved in the previous quarter. However, the construction sector contracted by 22.7 per cent and the transportation and storage sector shrank by 16.5 per cent, compared with the same period last year. The food & beverage services sector contracted by 9.4 per cent year-on-year.MTI said that it is still possible that the Singapore economy will outperform the 4-6 per cent growth forecast for 2021, there are also significant downside risks, with the most important being the trajectory of the pandemic.\"Countries are experiencing recurring waves of infections, with the emergence of more transmissible strains of the virus, the easing of safe management restrictions, and delays in vaccinating populations.\"The ministry said these resurgences, as well as the countries' public health responses to them, will inevitably affect their economic growth.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":134,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":191344764,"gmtCreate":1620860836558,"gmtModify":1704349339340,"author":{"id":"3581998173257990","authorId":"3581998173257990","name":"kyawkh","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b6819d2405688957eac033bb43e588a5","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581998173257990","authorIdStr":"3581998173257990"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hopefully..","listText":"Hopefully..","text":"Hopefully..","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/191344764","repostId":"1145231490","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1145231490","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1620832810,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1145231490?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-12 23:20","market":"us","language":"en","title":"AMC Stock Didn’t Have the Q1 Some People Seem to Think It Did","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1145231490","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"Don't assume that there will be a sustained relief rally in AMC stock.\n\nIt could be said that movie-","content":"
\n Don't assume that there will be a sustained relief rally in AMC stock.\n
\n
It could be said that movie-theater chainAMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC) stock is the ultimate beneficiary of the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
