The smarter play, however, is to concentrate on buying and holding stocks that have a history of growing their payouts. Stocks in that category have a history of producing higher returns than companies that strive to maintain outsized payouts.

The data is eye-opening. Over the last 50 years, dividend growers and initiators have delivered total annual returns averaging 10.7% -- higher than the S&P 500's 8.2% average annual total return -- according to data by Ned Davis Research and Hartford Funds. For comparison, companies that maintained their dividends only produced average annual total returns of 7.1%.

Tech giants Apple and Broadcom both have long histories of dividend growth. And with more payout increases likely down the road, they're smart buys for dividend investors as we start the year.

A cash flow machine

Some income-focused investors may dismiss Apple's stock given its paltry payout. Its current dividend yield of 0.7% is lower than the S&P 500's 1.7% yield.

However, what Apple's dividend lacks in size, it more than makes up for in growth. The tech giant has increased its payout every year since it re-instituted its dividend in 2012, and has increased its annual payouts by 143% since then. Those growing payouts have helped drive market-crushing annualized total returns for Apple of nearly 21%, significantly outpacing the 13.2% average annual total returns of the S&P 500.

Despite its mammoth size, Apple continues to grow at a healthy rate. It delivered another record-breaking quarter last period, with its revenue expanding by 8%. Meanwhile, its operating cash flow increased by $18 billion to more than $122 billion. That gave the company more money to invest in developing products and services, and more to return to shareholders via dividends and share repurchases. Between those two, Apple sent investors more than $29 billion last quarter, including about $3.7 billion in dividends.

Even with those outlays, it maintained a robust balance sheet with nearly $170 billion of cash and marketable securities. With its current dividend payment consuming only a small percentage of its cash flow, Apple has plenty of room to grow its payout.

Accelerating its software growth

Broadcom holds a more obvious appeal for income investors given its relatively attractive yield of 3.2%. That above-average payout is due to the company's strong cash flows and its dividend payout policy. The company converted 49% of its revenue into free cash flow in its fiscal 2022, which ended Oct. 30. Meanwhile, it set a policy to pay 50% of its prior fiscal year's free cash flow to shareholders via the dividend. It uses the other half to invest in growth and to repurchase shares. As it has been generating strong and growing free cash flow, Broadcom has steadily increased its dividend.

The semiconductor and infrastructure software solutions company increased its dividend by 12% for its fiscal 2023. That marked Broadcom's 12th straight year of increasing its payout since it initiated a dividend in its fiscal 2011. The company has increased its payout by a jaw-dropping 5,650% since that first payment. That has helped power it to a market-obliterating average annual total return of 31.3%, compared to 12.2% for the S&P 500.

Broadcom should be able to continue growing its dividend. A big driver of its earnings is its burgeoning software business. The company is working to accelerate its software capabilities by acquiring VMware in a $61 billion cash-and-stock deal. That deal should provide new growth opportunities, helping Broadcom to continue expanding its free cash flow and dividends.

Consider the total picture

It can be easy for income-focused investors to be drawn to the allure of high current dividend yields. However, the wiser investments can be those companies that are well-positioned (and well-inclined) to grow their payouts, because those companies have historically produced higher total returns for their shareholders. That has certainly been the case for Apple and Broadcom since they started paying dividends more than a decade ago. With more dividend growth ahead, these tech giants look like smart dividend stocks to buy this year.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Genius Dividend Stocks to Buy in 2023
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Genius Dividend Stocks to Buy in 2023\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2023-01-22 15:44 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
KEY POINTSOver the long term, dividend growth stocks have outperformed companies that tend to hold their payouts steady.Apple has been a standout dividend grower, increasing its payouts every year ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"AAPL":"苹果","AVGO":"博通"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2023/01/21/2-genius-dividend-stocks-to-buy-in-2023/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1172208937","content_text":"KEY POINTSOver the long term, dividend growth stocks have outperformed companies that tend to hold their payouts steady.Apple has been a standout dividend grower, increasing its payouts every year since it brought its dividend back a decade ago.Since initiating payouts 12 years ago, Broadcom has delivered eye-popping dividend growth. This is a savvier way to invest in dividend stocks. Many dividend-seeking investors gravitate to certain stocks because of their yields. The market is expected to see some 375 deals for the year, raising $125 billion, according to Renaissance, beating the $97 billion raised in 2000 during the dot-com boom.
\n

\n
“After the long summer break, this week is a litmus test for upcoming tech, biotech, and consumer IPOs,” Smith wrote in a market commentary. The list includes a Swiss running-shoe company backed by tennis giant Roger Federer, a drive-through coffee kiosk operator and a mortgage insurer that was spun out of insurer Genworth Financial.
\n

\n
The biggest deal of the week is expected to come from Thoughtworks,a Chicago-based technology consultancy that will go public at a valuation of up to $6.1 billion.
\n
The company, which expects to change its name from Turing Holding Corp. to Thoughtworks with completion of the IPO, said a total of 36.84 million shares will be offered, split between the company and selling shareholders.
\n

\n
The deal is expected to price at between $18 and $20 a share, and the stock will trade on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “TWKS.” Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan are the lead underwriters. The company recorded net income of $79.3 million on revenue of $803.4 million in 2020, after income of $28.4 million on revenue of $772.2 million in 2019.
\n
The Swiss athletic-footwear maker On Holding is expected to raise up to $622 million at a valuation of almost $6 billion. On has applied to list 31.1 million shares priced at $18 to $20 each on the New York Stock Exchange, under the ticker symbol “ONON.”
\n

\n
Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Morgan Stanley are lead underwriters in a syndicate of nine banks on the On deal. Proceeds are to be used for general corporate purposes. The company has a line that it co-developed with Federer.
\n

\n
The company had net income of 3.8 million Swiss francs ($4.1 million) in the six months through June 30, after a loss of 33.1 million francs in the year-earlier period, according to its IPO documents. Sales came to 315.5 million francs, up from 170.9 million francs.
\n

\n
Also from Switzerland, sports betting site Sportrader Group AG plans to offer 19 million shares priced at $25 to $28 each, for a valuation of up to $31 billion. The company has applied to list on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “SRAD.” JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and UBS are lead underwriters in a syndicate of 13 banks working on the deal.
\n

\n
Proceeds are to be used for working capital and to spur growth. The company had a net profit of $29.9 million in the first six months of the year, on revenue of $321 million, according to its filing documents.
\n

\n
Dutch Bros Inc.,an operator of drive-through shops that serve hot and cold drinks mostly in western U.S. states, is planning to offer 21.1 million shares priced at $18 to $20 each in its IPO, valuing the company at up to $3.3 billion.
\n

\n
BofA Securities, JPMorgan and Jefferies are lead underwriters in a syndicate of 13 banks working on the deal. The company has applied to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “BROS.”
\n
Proceeds are to be used to purchase additional Class A shares — the company is planning to have four classes of stock with differing voting rights. The company had a net loss of $13.6 million, or 32 cents a share, in the first six months of the year, narrower than the loss of $16.5 million, or 38 cents a share, posted in the year-earlier period. Revenue fell to $227.9 million from $327.4 million.
\n

\n
Rounding out the list are:
\n
• Definitive Healthcare Corp., a Massachusetts-based provider of healthcare commercial intelligence, is planning to offer 15.56 million shares in its PO, which is expected to price between $21 and $24 a share. At that pricing, the company could be valued at up to $3.55 billion.
\n
• Enact Holdings Inc., a mortgage insurer owned by Genworth, is planning to offer 13.3 million shares priced at $19 to $20 each. The company would be valued at $3.3 billion at the top of that range. The company said all shares will be sold by Genworth and it will not receive any proceeds. The market is expected to see some 375 deals for the year, raising $125 billion, according to Renaissance, beating the $97 billion raised in 2000 during the dot-com boom. \n\n“After the long summer break, this week is a litmus test for upcoming tech, biotech, and consumer IPOs,” Smith wrote in a market commentary. The list includes a Swiss running-shoe company backed by tennis giant Roger Federer, a drive-through coffee kiosk operator and a mortgage insurer that was spun out of insurer Genworth Financial. \n\nThe biggest deal of the week is expected to come from Thoughtworks,a Chicago-based technology consultancy that will go public at a valuation of up to $6.1 billion.\nThe company, which expects to change its name from Turing Holding Corp. to Thoughtworks with completion of the IPO, said a total of 36.84 million shares will be offered, split between the company and selling shareholders.\n\nThe deal is expected to price at between $18 and $20 a share, and the stock will trade on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “TWKS.” Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan are the lead underwriters. The company recorded net income of $79.3 million on revenue of $803.4 million in 2020, after income of $28.4 million on revenue of $772.2 million in 2019.\nThe Swiss athletic-footwear maker On Holding is expected to raise up to $622 million at a valuation of almost $6 billion. On has applied to list 31.1 million shares priced at $18 to $20 each on the New York Stock Exchange, under the ticker symbol “ONON.”\n\nGoldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Morgan Stanley are lead underwriters in a syndicate of nine banks on the On deal. Proceeds are to be used for general corporate purposes. The company has a line that it co-developed with Federer.\n\nThe company had net income of 3.8 million Swiss francs ($4.1 million) in the six months through June 30, after a loss of 33.1 million francs in the year-earlier period, according to its IPO documents. Sales came to 315.5 million francs, up from 170.9 million francs.\n\nAlso from Switzerland, sports betting site Sportrader Group AG plans to offer 19 million shares priced at $25 to $28 each, for a valuation of up to $31 billion. The company has applied to list on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “SRAD.” JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and UBS are lead underwriters in a syndicate of 13 banks working on the deal.\n\nProceeds are to be used for working capital and to spur growth. The company had a net profit of $29.9 million in the first six months of the year, on revenue of $321 million, according to its filing documents.\n\nDutch Bros Inc.,an operator of drive-through shops that serve hot and cold drinks mostly in western U.S. states, is planning to offer 21.1 million shares priced at $18 to $20 each in its IPO, valuing the company at up to $3.3 billion.\n\nBofA Securities, JPMorgan and Jefferies are lead underwriters in a syndicate of 13 banks working on the deal. The company has applied to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “BROS.”\nProceeds are to be used to purchase additional Class A shares — the company is planning to have four classes of stock with differing voting rights. The company had a net loss of $13.6 million, or 32 cents a share, in the first six months of the year, narrower than the loss of $16.5 million, or 38 cents a share, posted in the year-earlier period. Revenue fell to $227.9 million from $327.4 million.\n\nRounding out the list are:\n• Definitive Healthcare Corp., a Massachusetts-based provider of healthcare commercial intelligence, is planning to offer 15.56 million shares in its PO, which is expected to price between $21 and $24 a share. At that pricing, the company could be valued at up to $3.55 billion.\n• Enact Holdings Inc., a mortgage insurer owned by Genworth, is planning to offer 13.3 million shares priced at $19 to $20 each. The company would be valued at $3.3 billion at the top of that range. The company said all shares will be sold by Genworth and it will not receive any proceeds. It has applied to list on Nasdaq under the ticker “ACT.” Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan are lead underwriters in a team of nine banks working on the deal.\n• ForgeRock, a California-based identity security platform, is looking to raise up to $264 million with an offering of 11 million shares priced between $21 and $24 a share. That pricing would value the company a valuation of up to $1.91 billion.\nThe stock is expected to list on the NYSE under the ticker symbol “FORG.” Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan are the lead underwriters. The company recorded a net loss of $41.8 million on revenue of $127.6 million in 2020, after a loss of $36.9 million on revenue of $104.5 million in 2019.\n•Dice Therapeutics is expected to raise up to $170 million at a valuation of up to $583 million and list on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “DICE.” The biotech is developing therapies to treat chronic diseases in the field of immunology.\n•Surgical robotics developer Procept BioRobotics,is aiming to raise up to $132 million at a valuation of about $1 billion with plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “PRCT.” BofA Securities and Goldman Sachs are lead underwriters.\n“We develop, manufacture and sell the AquaBeam Robotic System, an advanced, image-guided, surgical robotic system for use in minimally invasive urologic surgery with an initial focus on treating benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH,” the company says in its IPO documents.\n•Tyra Biosciences is aiming to raise $107.2 million in IPO proceeds at a valuation of $589 million. The biotech’s leading product candidate is a treatment for bladder cancer. It has applied to list on Nasdaq under the symbol “TYRA.”\n•EzFill Holdings, an app-based mobile fueling company in South Florida, is planning to raise $25 million at a valuation of $100 million. The company has applied to list on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “EZFL.” ThinkEquity is sole underwriter.\nThe Renaissance IPO ETF has gained 6% to date in 2021, while the S&P 500 has advanced 19%.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":42,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9091135943,"gmtCreate":1643798815488,"gmtModify":1676533857587,"author":{"id":"4087959350378170","authorId":"4087959350378170","name":"Jialatsia","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087959350378170","authorIdStr":"4087959350378170"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Meep","listText":"Meep","text":"Meep","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9091135943","repostId":"2208357786","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2208357786","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1643795522,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2208357786?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-02 17:52","market":"us","language":"en","title":"7 Stocks To Watch For February 2, 2022","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2208357786","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Some of the stocks that may grab inve3stor focus today are:\n","content":"

Some of the stocks that may grab inve3stor focus today are:

Wall Street expects Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE:TMO) to report quarterly earnings at $5.26 per share on revenue of $9.29 billion before the opening bell. When she was shot at six times as she rode down the Mall at the Trooping of the Colour in 1981, she didn't know the assailant was firing blanks, but she carried on the parade regardless. That is the kind of raw courage we took for granted from her.Britain has undergone several extremely difficult moments over the past 70 years as it has been transformed in almost every conceivable way. The Suez Crisis, only four years into the Queen's reign, forced us to come to terms with the loss of the largest empire in world history over the course of only a decade or so, yet we never responded to the imperial humiliation in the way that France did in Algeria, let alone the way Putin is doing in Ukraine. The 1970s saw the serious danger of Britain slipping into the position of a third-rank power, and the tough-love medicine that Margaret Thatcher imposed to reverse that trajectory in the 1980s led to violent strikes and riots, yet not to worse. The issue of race hatred is thankfully largely behind Britons now, but we must never forget that it occasionally caused civil unrest. The refusal of much of the Establishment to accept the result of the Brexit referendum toxified British politics for half a decade. British history since 1952 hasn't been plain sailing.Yet the knowledge that at the apex of our political system, our constitutional structure, our armed forces, our Commonwealth, our legal system and our national church stood a lady of irreproachable morals, who moreover confined her political involvement to advising, encouraging and warning but never to partisan politics, has exercised an inestimably positive influence on our public life. Liz Truss wasn't exaggerating when she perceptively said that the Queen was \"the rock upon which modern Britain was built.\"Although she was a small \"c\" conservative in many aspects of life, as many nonagenarians naturally are, The Queen was always exemplary in the way that she never interfered in politics, and Sir Keir Starmer's public statement showed that the Labour Party admired her just as much as the large-c Conservatives. In a country that is being riven by extreme partisan politics at the moment, as Britons face a post-Covid future and inflationary spirals, admiration for her was one of the few things that united both frontbenches in parliament. Now even that has gone.More than a century separated the births of The Queen's first prime minister, Winston Churchill, and her last, Liz Truss. Even more extraordinary, the 96 years of her life constitutes 39% of the existence of the United States as an independent country. Her love of the United States -- her only incognito holidays were taken in Kentucky -- was instrumental in keeping our most important alliance, the Special Relationship, as fresh as it is profound. We have only just begun to note the number of ways we are going to miss her, on both the international and the domestic stages.A millennium-old monarchy is a book of many chapters. One unusually long and glorious chapter has closed, and a new one is now opening. If Britain today seems somewhat untethered, mournful of course but also apprehensive, it is because King Charles III has almost impossibly large boots to fill. Yet he has been waiting for 70 of his 73 years for the role to devolve upon him and is therefore supremely ready for it. There is something immensely spiritually right that a role such as this is assumed during a period of mourning. Politicians take power feeling like they have won the lottery; monarchs accede to thrones mournful at the death of their parent. Succession at a time of somber reflection rather than exultant triumph is part of the genius of constitutional monarchy.Queen Elizabeth II in the House of Lords for the opening of Parliament, May 2015. She continued to fulfill her duties until the end, appointing her 15th prime minister, Liz Truss, on Sept 6.We as a nation made The Queen do things that we would never, ever, even consider doing ourselves. We expected her to do her job to the age of 96, when we retire at 65, and to keep doing it up to two days before her death. We expected her to invite bloodthirsty dictators to stay in her home, because British foreign policy interests required it. We expected her, aged 86, to stand on a boat in the Thames in the freezing rain during the diamond jubilee, waving for hour after hour. We expected her to shake the hand of a former IRA gunmen who approved the murder of her husband's uncle. We expected her to smile and charm and shake hands cordially, whatever she might privately have been feeling inside about her family's all-too-public traumas. She did all of it, and in 70 years she never once complained. She was the best of us.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":337,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9002413359,"gmtCreate":1642065792629,"gmtModify":1676533677438,"author":{"id":"4087959350378170","authorId":"4087959350378170","name":"Jialatsia","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":7,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4087959350378170","authorIdStr":"4087959350378170"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Meep","listText":"Meep","text":"Meep","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9002413359","repostId":"1106321762","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1106321762","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1642064877,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1106321762?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-01-13 17:07","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Hot Chinese ADRs Fell in Premarket Trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1106321762","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Alibaba, JD.com, Pinduoduo, TAL, Tencent Music, DiDi and Nio fell between 1% and 3% in premarket tra","content":"

Alibaba, JD.com, Pinduoduo, TAL, Tencent Music, DiDi and Nio fell between 1% and 3% in premarket trading.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The Straits Times Index now sits just above the 3,290-point plateau although the rally figures to stall on Monday. The global forecast for the Asian markets is weak on continuing fears over the outlook for interest rates, with oil and technology stocks expected to lead the way lower. The European and U.S. markets were down and the Asian bourses are tipped to open in similar fashion. The STI finished barely higher on Friday following gains from the properties and a mixed picture from the financial sector. For the day, the index rose 0.04 points or 0.00 percent to finish at 3,294.86 after trading between 3,281.58 and 3,298.94. Volume was 1.03 billion shares worth 1.12 billion Singapore dollars. There were 229 decliners and 224 gainers.Among the actives, Ascendas REIT advanced 0.70 percent, while CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust rose 0.50 percent, City Developments added 0.56 percent, Comfort DelGro climbed 0.73 percent, DBS Group retreated 1.22 percent, Genting Singapore slumped 0.64 percent, Keppel Corp surged 1.32 percent, Mapletree Commercial Trust and Singapore Technologies Engineering both gained 0.54 percent, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation collected 0.08 percent, SATS soared 1.27 percent, Singapore Airlines spiked 1.19 percent, Singapore Exchange eased 0.10 percent, Singapore Press Holdings lost 0.43 percent, SingTel increased 0.40 percent, Thai Beverage jumped 0.76 percent, United Overseas Bank and Wilmar International both were up 0.23 percent, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding tumbled 1.49 percent and Dairy Farm International, Mapletree Logistics Trust and SembCorp Industries were unchanged. The lead from Wall Street is negative as the major U.S. markets were down again on Friday, hugging both sides of the unchanged line in the morning before going into freefall in the afternoon to end in the red for the fourth straight session. For the day, the Dow plummeted 450.02 points or 1.30 percent to finish at 34,265.37, while the NASDAQ plunged 385.10 points or 2.72 percent to close at 13.768.92 and the S&P 500 tumbled 84.79 points or 1.89 percent to end at 4,397.94.The particularly harsh drop on the NASDAQ was fueled by a weak earnings report from Netflix, which set off a cascade of selling pressure among the other markets.Surging bond prices also drove the markets lower, exacerbating interest rate concerns; most analysts believe a rate hike of at least 25 basis points from the FOMC is imminent in March.Oil prices fell finished lower on Friday for the second straight session, although they came up from session lows. Crude's correction continued after touching a seven-year high earlier in the week on demand optimism and short-term supply disruptions. West Texas Intermediate crude futures were down 0.86 percent at $84.81 per barrel after falling as much as 3.2 percent earlier.Closer to home, Singapore will release December figures for consumer prices later today, with forecasts suggesting an annual increase of 3.75 percent overall and 1.7 percent for core CPI.
