CEO Jim Farley said the move was \"difficult but necessary\" to achieve long-term growth.
\n
\"Despite investing significantly in India, Ford has accumulated more than $2 billion of operating losses over the past 10 years and demand for new vehicles has been much weaker than forecast,\" Farley said.
\n
Ford's India head, Anurag Mehrotra, said that the unit has not been able to find a \"sustainable path forward to long-term profitability that includes in-country vehicle manufacturing.\" He added that the decision was \"reinforced by years of accumulated losses, persistent industry overcapacity and lack of expected growth in India's car market.\"
\n
Two Ford plants in the cities of Sanand and Chennai will shutter in the coming months and the company will \"work closely\" with employees affected by the closures.
\n
Ford (F) has long struggled in India, which was the world's fifth largest auto market last year. The automaker began operations there in 1995, and has invested more than $2 billion in the country over the past 25 years.
\n
But it has barely picked up any market share. Ford's control of the market stood at roughly 1.8% in July, down from nearly 2.1% a year ago, according the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, a body representing automobile dealers.
\n
Top carmaker Maruti Suzuki — an Indian firm owned by Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation — had nearly 45% market share in July, while South Korea's Hyundai (HYMTF) controlled 17%.
\n
Even with those challenges, the decision to end production surprised some industry experts.
\n
\"It has come as a shock since they had invested so much in India,\" said Hormazd Sorabjee, editor of Autocar India. He attributed Ford's problems to the company's inability to \"get the Indian psyche,\" saying that the automaker had spent money in areas that customers did not appreciate.
\n
Sorabjee pointed, for example, to the Sanand plant, which he argued was too costly. (The factory cost $1 billion and opened in 2015, according to Reuters.)
\n
\"It is built like a Taj Mahal,\" he added. \"The western manufacturers just don't think frugal.\"
\n
In 2019, Ford reached a deal with local rival Mahindra to transfer most of its Indian business into a new joint venture, but the deal fell apart late last year. CEO Jim Farley said the move was \"difficult but necessary\" to achieve long-term growth.\n\"Despite investing significantly in India, Ford has accumulated more than $2 billion of operating losses over the past 10 years and demand for new vehicles has been much weaker than forecast,\" Farley said.\nFord's India head, Anurag Mehrotra, said that the unit has not been able to find a \"sustainable path forward to long-term profitability that includes in-country vehicle manufacturing.\" He added that the decision was \"reinforced by years of accumulated losses, persistent industry overcapacity and lack of expected growth in India's car market.\"\nTwo Ford plants in the cities of Sanand and Chennai will shutter in the coming months and the company will \"work closely\" with employees affected by the closures.\nFord (F) has long struggled in India, which was the world's fifth largest auto market last year. The automaker began operations there in 1995, and has invested more than $2 billion in the country over the past 25 years.\nBut it has barely picked up any market share. Ford's control of the market stood at roughly 1.8% in July, down from nearly 2.1% a year ago, according the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, a body representing automobile dealers.\nTop carmaker Maruti Suzuki — an Indian firm owned by Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation — had nearly 45% market share in July, while South Korea's Hyundai (HYMTF) controlled 17%.\nEven with those challenges, the decision to end production surprised some industry experts.\n\"It has come as a shock since they had invested so much in India,\" said Hormazd Sorabjee, editor of Autocar India. He attributed Ford's problems to the company's inability to \"get the Indian psyche,\" saying that the automaker had spent money in areas that customers did not appreciate.\nSorabjee pointed, for example, to the Sanand plant, which he argued was too costly. (The factory cost $1 billion and opened in 2015, according to Reuters.)\n\"It is built like a Taj Mahal,\" he added. \"The western manufacturers just don't think frugal.\"\nIn 2019, Ford reached a deal with local rival Mahindra to transfer most of its Indian business into a new joint venture, but the deal fell apart late last year. The companies cited \"fundamental changes in global economic and business conditions\" caused in part by the pandemic.\nFord is the latest US carmaker to cut back its India business in recent years. General Motors (GM) announced in 2017 that it would stop selling cars in the country.\n\"While India appears to be a very promising market from outside, it is also a really tough one,\" said Ruchit Agarwal, co-founder and CFO of CARS24, an online marketplace for used cars. He called the market \"price-sensitive,\" adding that the average selling price of a new car is about $10,000.\nThat cheap car market is \"locked by a handful of manufacturers\" who have figured out how to operate in Asia's third largest economy, Sorabjee said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":287,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":888563595,"gmtCreate":1631508517217,"gmtModify":1676530561375,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Expensive The other still thinks that AAPL shares could drop 40%. Is the sizable downside risk realistic?
\n
On the first day of September, one of the rare Wall Street bears on Apple stock (AAPL) finally gave in and dropped his sell rating. The last remaining one still sees shares dropping to a price target of $90, representing risk of loss of around 40%.
\n
Could New Street’s Pierre Ferragu, the last remaining Apple bear on Wall Street, be right about his downside call? The Apple Maven looks a bit closer at the argument.
\n
Why bearish on Apple?
\n
The core of Pierre’s bearish argument seems to be the iPhone. The analyst has called the upcoming device launch a “12S cycle”, arguing that the best of Apple’s iPhone upgrade wave, the so-called 5G super cycle, has been left in the rearview mirror.
\n
New Street subscribes to the view that the strong iPhone 12 cycle has pulled forward smartphone sales, leaving a gap in demand going forward. Interestingly, this is exactly the opposite opinion of bullish Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, who said the following during an interview with the Apple Maven:
\n
\n “What the Street underestimates is how massive and elongated this super cycle is. […] 5G does not get fully embraced for the next two or three years, until the networks are built out. In China [where the 5G infrastructure is further ahead], the iPhone 12, especially the larger Pro versions, really sold extremely well.”\n
\n
Still on the iPhone, Mr. Ferragu laid out his expectations for 2022 back in April (I am unaware of revisions since then). He believes that iPhone shipments will reach 190 million units, suggesting segment revenues of around $150 billion – a modest annual increase of 5% from COVID-19 levels.
\n
Could AAPL sink 40%?
\n
Now, let’s put pen to paper. For Apple stock to be valued at $90 apiece, one of two things would need to happen: either financial performance would need to lag consensus expectations, or valuations would need to contract (or a combination of both).
\n
On results,Wall Street currently sees fiscal 2022 EPS landing at $5.63, roughly flat against a 2021 that has been impressive so far. For AAPL to drop 40% in price, therefore, next-year earnings would need to miss consensus substantially, by at least a couple of dollars. I find this highly unlikely.
\n
On valuations, AAPL currently trades at a fiscal 2021 earnings multiple of 27 times. Assuming consensus-matching results in the future, this multiple would need to drop to about 16 times for AAPL shares to sink to $90. The stock’s forward P/E has not been this low in years.
\n
The Apple Maven’s take
\n
I find it very improbable, if not virtually impossible, for Apple to ever be valued at $90 per share again. It is much more reasonable, in my opinion, that New Street’s current price target on the stock is simply stale, following AAPL’s 25% rally in the past six months.
\n
Therefore, I would not be surprised to see Wall Street’s last AAPL bear eventually (soon?) give in on his downside convictions, at least in what pertains to his current price target.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Bear Attack: Could Apple Stock Really Drop 40%?
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nBear Attack: Could Apple Stock Really Drop 40%?\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-09-02 22:07 GMT+8 Thestreet\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
One of two Wall Street analysts that had a sell rating on Apple stock threw in the towel. The stock’s forward P/E has not been this low in years.\nThe Apple Maven’s take\nI find it very improbable, if not virtually impossible, for Apple to ever be valued at $90 per share again. It is much more reasonable, in my opinion, that New Street’s current price target on the stock is simply stale, following AAPL’s 25% rally in the past six months.\nTherefore, I would not be surprised to see Wall Street’s last AAPL bear eventually (soon?) give in on his downside convictions, at least in what pertains to his current price target.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":330,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":812139944,"gmtCreate":1630560607488,"gmtModify":1676530340701,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Noise","listText":"Noise","text":"Noise","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/812139944","repostId":"1186705409","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":287,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":812197474,"gmtCreate":1630560453198,"gmtModify":1676530340668,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Waiting!","listText":"Waiting!","text":"Waiting!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/812197474","repostId":"1146807552","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":256,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":812194415,"gmtCreate":1630560360837,"gmtModify":1676530340637,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Noise","listText":"Noise","text":"Noise","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/812194415","repostId":"1199171689","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":113,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":812195142,"gmtCreate":1630560237886,"gmtModify":1676530340598,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$8VIC(8VI.AU)$waiting waiting ","listText":"$8VIC(8VI.AU)$waiting waiting ","text":"$8VIC(8VI.AU)$waiting waiting","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c612dde9c7d48bad8aeabaaa7b816d0b","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/812195142","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":192,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":816667292,"gmtCreate":1630498261516,"gmtModify":1676530320189,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good candidate for options!","listText":"Good candidate for options!","text":"Good candidate for options!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6bb7631ce0cab8c861dade21b97c68ec","width":"1080","height":"2300"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/816667292","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":214,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":818490453,"gmtCreate":1630423416072,"gmtModify":1676530300600,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"A company with strong competitive advantage but with regulatory risks. Everything from passive investing to buybacks is trotted out to explain it, but the real reason is the uncanny predictability of corporate America’s earnings machine.
\n
Patience is being rewarded like at no other time. Thanks to a climb in profits that is as steady as it is steep, valuations that once made noses bleed turn out to be very reasonable when measured against income one or two years later. Call it retrospective P/E -- price divided by earnings that eventually come to pass.
\n
The result has been a rally that, while paling next to the late 1990s in terms of hysteria, has caught up in terms of duration. Every year, bears get more convinced the stock market will crash due to its high valuation. And every year it doesn’t.
\n
Case in point: the block of tech megacap companies known as the Faangs. Their tremendous ability to rapidly grow profits has defied Cassandras who said buying a Faang stock for more than 30 times earnings would haunt investors.
\n

\n
“Ultimately everything has to trade off fundamentals,” said Eric Marshall, a portfolio manager at Hodges Capital Management. “These Faang stocks are valued the way they are because they are disruptors -- they’ve changed the way people shop, they’ve changed the way people work, they’ve changed the way people consume media.”
\n
Take Facebook Inc. in 2013, for instance. The stock looked gravely expensive one year after its debut, fetching a price-earnings ratio of 62 based on the income it generated in the previous 12 months. However, when measured against the profit that the social-media company made one year later, the stock cost only half as much.
\n
Amazon.com Inc. showed a similar story. The internet giant was traded at roughly 183 times reported earnings back then. When judged by earnings that materialized five years out, it was cheap -- for a multiple of 14.
\n
Needless to say, that year was the onset of a 530% rally for the Faangs -- Facebook, Apple Inc., Amazon, Microsoft Corp. and Google parent Alphabet Inc., an advance that easily dwarfs every major industry in the S&P 500. Original Faang member Netflix Inc. has gained more than 1,000% since then.
\n
Bubble warnings were again heard when the broader market began to rally off the 2020 pandemic lows. Yet corporate profits have roared higher in such a spectacular fashion that those valuations, when analyzed against the actual earnings reported a year later, were almost 20% cheaper than analysts thought.
\n
Valuations are never great market-timing tools, yet they do matter in the long term since the more over-valued the market is, the lower its future returns. According to a study by Deutsche Bank AG, valuations similar to today’s have historically brought slightly negative returns on average in the ensuing five years.
\n
To Binky Chadha, Deutsche Bank’s chief strategist, current stretched multiples reflect confusion over exactly where the market is in the earnings cycle. With S&P 500 firms exceeding analyst estimates by more than 15% for five quarters in a row, stocks are priced for a prolonged recovery and for large beats to continue, he says. Yet earnings are already 10% above the trend seen in past decades.
\n
“With the current cycle advancing very quickly, the risk that the correction is hard is growing,” Chadha wrote in a client note.
\n
Of course, there is no guarantee the great expectations embedded in share prices will come true, not even for the largest companies. While some of the Faangs just rode a resurgence in consumer and business spending to a quarter of record profits, Apple has warned that sales growth may be slowing amid a tight supply and Alphabet said it’s too early to forecast longer-term trends due to uncertainty over the pandemic.
\n
Not to mention the heightened regulatory scrutiny these behemoths face. Apple shares dropped more than 3% Friday after the iPhone maker was ordered by a court to allow developers to steer consumers to outside payment methods for mobile apps.
\n
Big tech bulls aren’t deterred. The Faang stocks have risen 8% this quarter, joining defensive shares like utilities as market leaders. While some say this is driven by desires for stable businesses amid heightened macro uncertainty, it’d be remiss to credit it all to a rush for safety.
\n

\n
Except for Amazon, the rest of the Faangs have all seen their earnings estimates rise, jumping an average 13% in the past three months. That compared with a 7.5% increase for the S&P 500.
\n
Anyone who stared down the valuation warnings was proven right. The Faangs have added $8 trillion in share values since 2013, buttressed by an uninterrupted earnings expansion that endured the 2014-2015 oil shock and last year’s pandemic recession.
\n
And analysts’ estimates suggest the Faang bloc’s superior earnings strength will keep going, expanding at an annualized rate of 23% in the next three to five years, double the S&P 500’s expected growth rate.
\n
“Their business models appear to be almost bulletproof,” said Mike Mullaney, director of global market research at Boston Partners. “I’m more willing to pay up for that.”
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Sky-High Faang Stocks Were Never Anything But Screaming Bargains
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nSky-High Faang Stocks Were Never Anything But Screaming Bargains\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-09-13 11:33 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
(Bloomberg) -- What explains the bull market’s ability to power on despite valuations that eclipse anything other than the dot-com bubble? With S&P 500 firms exceeding analyst estimates by more than 15% for five quarters in a row, stocks are priced for a prolonged recovery and for large beats to continue, he says. Yet earnings are already 10% above the trend seen in past decades.\n“With the current cycle advancing very quickly, the risk that the correction is hard is growing,” Chadha wrote in a client note.\nOf course, there is no guarantee the great expectations embedded in share prices will come true, not even for the largest companies. While some of the Faangs just rode a resurgence in consumer and business spending to a quarter of record profits, Apple has warned that sales growth may be slowing amid a tight supply and Alphabet said it’s too early to forecast longer-term trends due to uncertainty over the pandemic.\nNot to mention the heightened regulatory scrutiny these behemoths face. Apple shares dropped more than 3% Friday after the iPhone maker was ordered by a court to allow developers to steer consumers to outside payment methods for mobile apps.\nBig tech bulls aren’t deterred. The Faang stocks have risen 8% this quarter, joining defensive shares like utilities as market leaders. While some say this is driven by desires for stable businesses amid heightened macro uncertainty, it’d be remiss to credit it all to a rush for safety.\n\nExcept for Amazon, the rest of the Faangs have all seen their earnings estimates rise, jumping an average 13% in the past three months. That compared with a 7.5% increase for the S&P 500.\nAnyone who stared down the valuation warnings was proven right. The Faangs have added $8 trillion in share values since 2013, buttressed by an uninterrupted earnings expansion that endured the 2014-2015 oil shock and last year’s pandemic recession.\nAnd analysts’ estimates suggest the Faang bloc’s superior earnings strength will keep going, expanding at an annualized rate of 23% in the next three to five years, double the S&P 500’s expected growth rate.\n“Their business models appear to be almost bulletproof,” said Mike Mullaney, director of global market research at Boston Partners. “I’m more willing to pay up for that.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":663,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3582327204568575","authorId":"3582327204568575","name":"valuebay","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/975309cd3a6c14b9b84d70a743d8eb57","crmLevel":6,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"idStr":"3582327204568575","authorIdStr":"3582327204568575"},"content":"thought so too, wait for correctiom","text":"thought so too, wait for correctiom","html":"thought so too, wait for correctiom"}],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":895201946,"gmtCreate":1628743854585,"gmtModify":1676529839896,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Aiya...now only tell. These advantages mean that the company will remain superior in the near term when it comes to profitability and diversity within the EV industry and can best utilize the rapid growth rate the entire industry is expecting.
\n
The Long-Term Headwinds Haven't Changed
\n
As I've been highlighting for several months now,Tesla's long-term prospects have dimmedsince other automobile companies like Ford and General Motors (GM) in the United States, NIO (NIO) and others in the Asia-Pacific region and other European and South Korean automobile manufacturers moved up their electrification process timelines. The main reason for this is that these companies have very solid brand recognition, and individuals who have owned these models for years or decades have the option to opt for an electric version of those; they choose those over trying out a new untested model a majority of the time.
\n
With companies like Ford introducing the all-electric F-150 and others, it's unclear how Tesla can maintain this high growth rate beyond 2024 as these models are expected to hit the streets and begin capturing back market share away from Tesla and other current models. Other factors like Tesla opening up their charging station network to all EV models, as well as a massive capital injection into EV charging stations in the most recent infrastructure spending bill in the United States, will surely help Tesla's income when it charges for the use, but it also helps other companies overcome the main hurdle of widespread adoption - clearing a pathway for more and more EV models to emerge.
\n
The Short-Term Tailwinds Are Emerging
\n
Tesla has several near-term tailwinds which will keep way ahead of any competition for the next 12 to 24 months. These mostly all boil down to profitability but also focus on various business model advantages.
\n
1. A positive profit margin: While other companies are just now beginning to invest in transforming their manufacturing facilities from fossil fuel intake engines to electric vehicle production, Tesla has done this and way more efficiently. Since they've built these from scratch, they've mostly automated the process and thus enjoy a much higher profit margin. Other companies won't see a profit per vehicle for years to come.
\n
2. Surging battery manufacturing: Although other companies have a mixed position on whether to manufacture their own batteries or set up joint ventures with existing companies, Tesla has been churning out batteries for years and have, as similar with the vehicle manufacturing process, nearly fully automated the process to maximize profits per unit.
\n
3. International manufacturing: Other companies, thus far, have focused on restructuring and transforming current assembly plants in the United States and will likely take several more years before they do so for other international facilities, which means they will need to spend a fortune shipping these new vehicles around the world to the EMEA and the Asia-Pacific. Tesla, on the other hand, has manufacturing facilities in the United States and in China and is set to open their plant in Germany as well as being in final development stages of an India plant, which will allow them to access a much larger market.
\n
4. Charging stations advantage: Although the new infrastructure bill in the United States, as well as massive investments in countries like Japan and China, are certain to put in hundreds of thousands of new EV charging stations across the globe, this will take time. So far, only Tesla has a real robust charging network across the world. A recent development, which does have negative elements to it as mentioned earlier, has a positive near term one - they will be raking in net profits from allowing other electric vehicles to charge on their network. This means that they'll likely be profiting from each vehicle their competitors churn out, at least until the scaling up of non-Tesla charging stations takes place.
\n
5. \"Other Business\" growth rate: While other automobile companies are still spending hand over fist on their other models and products, Tesla enjoys being only in high-growth industries like SolarCity's solar panels and battery sales. As I'll expand on in the next segment, they also don't have near-term or long-term financial obligations from these \"other business\" segments as establishment automobile companies have.
\n
Balance Sheet Advantages
\n
Although some elements of their balance sheet advantage are set to help them in the long run as well, they're mostly advantages for the short term since once these other companies begin making a profit from their EV sales - a lot of this will be reversed.
\n
Tesla's main advantage, as mentioned earlier, is that they're actually raking in cash from each car they sell, allowing them to use that cash to continue and set up more manufacturing facilities and invest in battery technology, solar technology and production increases. This is contrary to other automobile companies which have high financial obligations to their other business segments like pensions and leases. This will further aid the company's overall profit margin, while they don't struggle with such obligations.
\n
These other companies will need to use profits and cash from their existing legacy business segments to pay for their losses on each vehicle they produce, hurting their overall valuation moving forward.
\n
Although Tesla has $6.9 billion inlong-term debt, a factor which kept many investors on the sidelines as debt racked up, they currently hold just under $16.3 billion in cash and equivalents, making their net debt position negative. They've been using the cash to pay down their debt as well, reducing their interest expense burdenfrom almost $800 million in 2020 to just over $500 million in 2021. Tesla paid back $15 billion in debt in 2021 for a net debt reduction of $6 billion. There's very little doubt that other automobile companies will be forced to take on more debt to finance increased production and in this raising rate environment, that can snowball.
\n
Tesla is set to seecash flowof around $10 billion annually whereas a company like Ford has been fluctuating between a net positive and negative cash flow status for the past few years, and that's not expected to change through 2025 as they continue to increase investments in the electrification of their vehicles.
\n
What About Current Valuation
\n
Analystscurrently expect the company to report EPS of $5.38 for 2021 and grow at a fast pace to reach EPS of $10.33 for 2024. As I mentioned in my earlier article, I believe that, given comparison with other major automobile companies, the company is fairly valued at around 75x forward earnings.
\n
I do, however, believe that some of the current competition expectations are overblown for the near term, as I've been mentioning throughout the entire article. Therefore, I do believe that Tesla will outperform current expectations at least through 2023. This means that a 75x forward earnings multiple is the ground base for appropriate valuation, I believe.
\n
This presents the following fair value, with the implied increase potential:
\n
As you can see, this means that Tesla is almost 40% overvalued relative to earnings expectations, even if they overcome them by as much as 20%. However, given that these expectations are likely to be beaten, I don't believe that shorting the company is a good idea, but one thing that is worth looking out for is a general market correction.
\n
The Biggest Risk Of Owning Tesla
\n
The biggest risk with owning Tesla right now is that, in a general market correction, which can happen at any moment as the post-pandemic trade is winding down, companies with lofty expectations tend to fall the most as fair value is sought beyond what their potential is way down the line.
\n
I don't believe that shorting Tesla is the right approach, even though my disclosures down below and in previous article state that I am, given general market exposure. I am short simply because I don't believe that much upwards potential is there, whilst downward potential in a market correction is vast. These advantages mean that the company will remain superior in the near term when it comes to profitability and diversity within the EV industry and can best utilize the rapid growth rate the entire industry is expecting.\nThe Long-Term Headwinds Haven't Changed\nAs I've been highlighting for several months now,Tesla's long-term prospects have dimmedsince other automobile companies like Ford and General Motors (GM) in the United States, NIO (NIO) and others in the Asia-Pacific region and other European and South Korean automobile manufacturers moved up their electrification process timelines. The main reason for this is that these companies have very solid brand recognition, and individuals who have owned these models for years or decades have the option to opt for an electric version of those; they choose those over trying out a new untested model a majority of the time.\nWith companies like Ford introducing the all-electric F-150 and others, it's unclear how Tesla can maintain this high growth rate beyond 2024 as these models are expected to hit the streets and begin capturing back market share away from Tesla and other current models. Other factors like Tesla opening up their charging station network to all EV models, as well as a massive capital injection into EV charging stations in the most recent infrastructure spending bill in the United States, will surely help Tesla's income when it charges for the use, but it also helps other companies overcome the main hurdle of widespread adoption - clearing a pathway for more and more EV models to emerge.\nThe Short-Term Tailwinds Are Emerging\nTesla has several near-term tailwinds which will keep way ahead of any competition for the next 12 to 24 months. These mostly all boil down to profitability but also focus on various business model advantages.\n1. Other companies won't see a profit per vehicle for years to come.\n2. Surging battery manufacturing: Although other companies have a mixed position on whether to manufacture their own batteries or set up joint ventures with existing companies, Tesla has been churning out batteries for years and have, as similar with the vehicle manufacturing process, nearly fully automated the process to maximize profits per unit.\n3. International manufacturing: Other companies, thus far, have focused on restructuring and transforming current assembly plants in the United States and will likely take several more years before they do so for other international facilities, which means they will need to spend a fortune shipping these new vehicles around the world to the EMEA and the Asia-Pacific. Tesla, on the other hand, has manufacturing facilities in the United States and in China and is set to open their plant in Germany as well as being in final development stages of an India plant, which will allow them to access a much larger market.\n4. This means that they'll likely be profiting from each vehicle their competitors churn out, at least until the scaling up of non-Tesla charging stations takes place.\n5. \"Other Business\" growth rate: While other automobile companies are still spending hand over fist on their other models and products, Tesla enjoys being only in high-growth industries like SolarCity's solar panels and battery sales. As I'll expand on in the next segment, they also don't have near-term or long-term financial obligations from these \"other business\" segments as establishment automobile companies have.\nBalance Sheet Advantages\nAlthough some elements of their balance sheet advantage are set to help them in the long run as well, they're mostly advantages for the short term since once these other companies begin making a profit from their EV sales - a lot of this will be reversed.\nTesla's main advantage, as mentioned earlier, is that they're actually raking in cash from each car they sell, allowing them to use that cash to continue and set up more manufacturing facilities and invest in battery technology, solar technology and production increases. This is contrary to other automobile companies which have high financial obligations to their other business segments like pensions and leases. This will further aid the company's overall profit margin, while they don't struggle with such obligations.\nThese other companies will need to use profits and cash from their existing legacy business segments to pay for their losses on each vehicle they produce, hurting their overall valuation moving forward.\nAlthough Tesla has $6.9 billion inlong-term debt, a factor which kept many investors on the sidelines as debt racked up, they currently hold just under $16.3 billion in cash and equivalents, making their net debt position negative. They've been using the cash to pay down their debt as well, reducing their interest expense burdenfrom almost $800 million in 2020 to just over $500 million in 2021. Tesla paid back $15 billion in debt in 2021 for a net debt reduction of $6 billion. There's very little doubt that other automobile companies will be forced to take on more debt to finance increased production and in this raising rate environment, that can snowball.\nTesla is set to seecash flowof around $10 billion annually whereas a company like Ford has been fluctuating between a net positive and negative cash flow status for the past few years, and that's not expected to change through 2025 as they continue to increase investments in the electrification of their vehicles.\nWhat About Current Valuation\nAnalystscurrently expect the company to report EPS of $5.38 for 2021 and grow at a fast pace to reach EPS of $10.33 for 2024. As I mentioned in my earlier article, I believe that, given comparison with other major automobile companies, the company is fairly valued at around 75x forward earnings.\nI do, however, believe that some of the current competition expectations are overblown for the near term, as I've been mentioning throughout the entire article. Therefore, I do believe that Tesla will outperform current expectations at least through 2023. This means that a 75x forward earnings multiple is the ground base for appropriate valuation, I believe.\nThis presents the following fair value, with the implied increase potential:\nAs you can see, this means that Tesla is almost 40% overvalued relative to earnings expectations, even if they overcome them by as much as 20%. However, given that these expectations are likely to be beaten, I don't believe that shorting the company is a good idea, but one thing that is worth looking out for is a general market correction.\nThe Biggest Risk Of Owning Tesla\nThe biggest risk with owning Tesla right now is that, in a general market correction, which can happen at any moment as the post-pandemic trade is winding down, companies with lofty expectations tend to fall the most as fair value is sought beyond what their potential is way down the line.\nI don't believe that shorting Tesla is the right approach, even though my disclosures down below and in previous article state that I am, given general market exposure. I am short simply because I don't believe that much upwards potential is there, whilst downward potential in a market correction is vast. So, given that I am mostly long, this short is a general portfolio hedge while I reduce positions in case of a correction.\nIn Conclusion\nTesla has several positive catalysts which should keep them on top of the EV industry growth roster for the next 24 to 36 months, while other companies struggle to make even a single penny on their new vehicles. These are set, I believe, to allow them to beat earnings expectations for that time period.\nEven so, their long-term competitive pressures remain high and as I stated in my previous article - their long-term growth prospects will continue to dim as time moves on.\nEven with these positive near-term advantages, I still believe that the company is overvalued by as much as 40%, and although I do not favor shorting the company for this overvaluation, I remain slightly bearish on their long-term prospects and neutral to slightly bullish on their near-term one.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":61,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":863227553,"gmtCreate":1632401086272,"gmtModify":1676530772898,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$KraneShares MSCI All China Health Care Index ETF(KURE)$CXO","listText":"$KraneShares MSCI All China Health Care Index ETF(KURE)$CXO","text":"$KraneShares MSCI All China Health Care Index ETF(KURE)$CXO","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/728c88c173dd5ac8f4b8126992d8b692","width":"1080","height":"2126"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/863227553","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":570,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":887897026,"gmtCreate":1632015073765,"gmtModify":1676530686288,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Celularity Inc.(CELU)$potential billion dollar company?","listText":"$Celularity Inc.(CELU)$potential billion dollar company?","text":"$Celularity Inc.(CELU)$potential billion dollar company?","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cf13097aa800192e0d08b994afffc177","width":"1080","height":"2213"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/887897026","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":849,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":895268424,"gmtCreate":1628748395668,"gmtModify":1676529841540,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Jeng jeng jeng!!","listText":"Jeng jeng jeng!!","text":"Jeng jeng jeng!!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8a050ef01624ae36ee31db1e4cb2f21a","width":"1080","height":"3100"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/895268424","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":132,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":887897401,"gmtCreate":1632015136203,"gmtModify":1676530686279,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$8VIC(8VI.AU)$come on! continued.\n
\n
Key Points
\n
\n
Markets were mixed to start September.
\n
Chewy saw share prices fall after an earnings report that included continued supply chain challenges.
\n
Veeva Systems also took a hit after earnings.
\n
\n
The stock market started September with mixed performance from major indexes, as many investors looked forward to employment data due out Friday to give a hint on the future direction of the market. The Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC)managed to climb to another record high, but the S&P 500(SNPINDEX:^GSPC) was just about unchanged, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI)actually gave up ground.
\n

\n
The string of high-profile earnings reports continuedafter the market closedon Wednesday, and some stocks took big hits despite companies offering relatively strong results. Among the big decliners on the day after hours wereChewy(NYSE:CHWY)andVeeva Systems(NYSE:VEEV). Below, we'll look into both companies and their latest reports to see if there's any reason for the stock price declines.
\n
Every dog might have its day -- but not today
\n
Chewy announced its second-quarter results after the bell on Wednesday. The pet retailer's stock promptly fell sharply, down 9% as of 5:30 p.m. EDT.
\n
Chewy's numbers didn't seem to deserve such a negative reaction. Revenue grew at a 27% pace year over year to $2.16 billion. Gross margin figures rose by 2 full percentage points. Chewy saw the number of active customers rise by 21% from year-ago levels to more than 20 million, and average sales per active customer picked up 13% over the same time period to more than $400. Chewy posted a modest loss, but free cash flow came in positive after a substantial negative result the year before.
\n
Yet investors responded poorly to someissues Chewy continued to face. Out-of-stock items remained at elevated levels during the period, although the situation improved somewhat from three months ago as supply chain issues improved in some cases. Moreover, production-capacity issues continued to plague Chewy in key areas like wet dog food sales.
\n
Nevertheless, Chewy is excited about its opportunities for growth. In particular, the launch of the Chewy Health veterinarian marketplace on the company's website aims to provide an alternative to some of the pet-focused websites that rivals have spawned, instead making direct connections with thousands of veterinary clinics to build up the value of the Chewy ecosystem. Combine that with favorable trends toward pet ownership, and that makes it easier to see the after-hours drop as a bargain opportunity.
\n
Veeva looks less vivacious
\n
Veeva Systems shares saw similar declines, falling almost 9% in after-hours trading. The provider of life-sciences cloud solutions wasn't able to meet the high expectations of its shareholders in its second-quarter results.
\n
Veeva had plenty of good things to say about the most recent quarter. Overall revenue climbed 29%, tracking the rise in subscription services sales perfectly. Adjusted net income came in up 31% year over year to $152.7 million, and adjusted earnings of $0.94 per share were above what most investors had expected from thecloud stock.
\n
Yet investors didn't seem satisfied with the view Veeva has of its immediate future. The Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC)managed to climb to another record high, but the S&P 500(SNPINDEX:^GSPC) was just about unchanged, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI)actually gave up ground.\n\nThe string of high-profile earnings reports continuedafter the market closedon Wednesday, and some stocks took big hits despite companies offering relatively strong results. Among the big decliners on the day after hours wereChewy(NYSE:CHWY)andVeeva Systems(NYSE:VEEV). Below, we'll look into both companies and their latest reports to see if there's any reason for the stock price declines.\nEvery dog might have its day -- but not today\nChewy announced its second-quarter results after the bell on Wednesday. The pet retailer's stock promptly fell sharply, down 9% as of 5:30 p.m. EDT.\nChewy's numbers didn't seem to deserve such a negative reaction. Revenue grew at a 27% pace year over year to $2.16 billion. Gross margin figures rose by 2 full percentage points. Chewy saw the number of active customers rise by 21% from year-ago levels to more than 20 million, and average sales per active customer picked up 13% over the same time period to more than $400. Chewy posted a modest loss, but free cash flow came in positive after a substantial negative result the year before.\nYet investors responded poorly to someissues Chewy continued to face. Out-of-stock items remained at elevated levels during the period, although the situation improved somewhat from three months ago as supply chain issues improved in some cases. Moreover, production-capacity issues continued to plague Chewy in key areas like wet dog food sales.\nNevertheless, Chewy is excited about its opportunities for growth. In particular, the launch of the Chewy Health veterinarian marketplace on the company's website aims to provide an alternative to some of the pet-focused websites that rivals have spawned, instead making direct connections with thousands of veterinary clinics to build up the value of the Chewy ecosystem. Combine that with favorable trends toward pet ownership, and that makes it easier to see the after-hours drop as a bargain opportunity.\nVeeva looks less vivacious\nVeeva Systems shares saw similar declines, falling almost 9% in after-hours trading. The provider of life-sciences cloud solutions wasn't able to meet the high expectations of its shareholders in its second-quarter results.\nVeeva had plenty of good things to say about the most recent quarter. Overall revenue climbed 29%, tracking the rise in subscription services sales perfectly. Adjusted net income came in up 31% year over year to $152.7 million, and adjusted earnings of $0.94 per share were above what most investors had expected from thecloud stock.\nYet investors didn't seem satisfied with the view Veeva has of its immediate future. The company projected third-quarter sales of between $464 million and $466 million and earnings of $0.87 to $0.88 per share, which were only slightly above expectations. Similarly, full-year guidance for sales of $1.83 billion to $1.835 billion would represent growth rates of just 25%, and adjusted earnings projections of $3.57 per share would still leave the stock's earnings multiple above 90 before the after-hours drop.\nEven with the drop, Veeva is still up 20% just since May. If the life sciences industry shows renewed growth, then it could help Veeva's stock recover.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":287,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":812195142,"gmtCreate":1630560237886,"gmtModify":1676530340598,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$8VIC(8VI.AU)$waiting waiting ","listText":"$8VIC(8VI.AU)$waiting waiting ","text":"$8VIC(8VI.AU)$waiting waiting","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c612dde9c7d48bad8aeabaaa7b816d0b","width":"1080","height":"1920"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/812195142","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":192,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":816667292,"gmtCreate":1630498261516,"gmtModify":1676530320189,"author":{"id":"4089691390674800","authorId":"4089691390674800","name":"KolinRRJ","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7011069511b27ceab2225c880a41670c","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089691390674800","authorIdStr":"4089691390674800"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good candidate for options!","listText":"Good candidate for options!","text":"Good candidate for options!","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6bb7631ce0cab8c861dade21b97c68ec","width":"1080","height":"2300"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/816667292","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":214,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
