$SPX 20240517 5105.0 PUT$  My worst one day loss  A very good event for me to keep staying alert
$SINGAPORE AIRLINES LTD(C6L.SI)$   I used to own some SIA shares.  Personal view: Air travel will still continue for the future. Business may still be profitable. But I have been hearing of people complaining about the high prices of air tickets. People may choose other airlines to have better savings over comfort Expenses wise. High chance that fuel costs will keep increasing and will lower the income
Accumulation of $1.2mil for passive income of $5000 per month. How achievable is it? The initial part is always slow. Assume I invest $40,000 yearly, the first year interest is only $2000. With more money invested and the interest will increase to $39,200. Subsequently, the interest itself will exceed my principal amount that I regularly invest. Compound interest is very important. A lot of people ask me why I DCA regularly. The above is my reason. The starting part is always painful. Some people may start to withdraw the dividends and spend them away. This is part of the reasons why some people will never achieve the expected outcome for financial freedom. Set the goal and continue to monitor the progress along the way. I am on the way to achieve this results. For 2023, my return was
$SPX 20240517 5055.0 CALL$  Before the market closed yesterday, I opened 2 lots of SPX call Marginal loss I will suppose that S&P will increase by 0.8% today and be able to sell off my calls at $88 Let's see if I can pull off something spectacular results

When to sell your shares? My friends and I discussed this during the National Day period. Most suggest to sell thebest stocks they are holding and keep the worst performing ones. Others suggest to cut losses and keep the best performing ones.I treat this similar to a job.If I am a boss, will I let go of my best staff ifhis salary reaches 20% of his original pay? And I continue to keep the worst performingstaff just because their salaries are the lowest? For me. I rather sell off the worst performingshares I am currently holding to cut losses. For stocks posting gains repeatedly is due to their own strategies for the next 5 to 10 years.

Why 3x ETFs Are Riskier Than You Might ThinkMy friend introduced me to the item of 3x ETF. A good read by InvestopediaBy JOHN EDWARDS Updated April 03, 2022Reviewed by ANDY SMITHLeverage involves borrowing in order to amplify the returns of an investment. This means that potential gains, but also losses, can be increased. A common form of leveraged stock investing involves buying on margin. However, there are also ETF products that already come with leverage built-in, seeking 2x or 3x the returns of the index or sector that they track.Investors face substantial risks with all leveraged investment vehicles. However, 3x exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are especially risky because they utilize more leverage in an attempt to achieve higher returns. Leveraged ETFs may be useful for short-term trad

Investment using ESG criteriaWhy is more companies using ESG criteria?ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance.Global warming is creating more environmental issues worldwide now. Without taking care of our environments, we will either need more money from Government to make good whatever we have not done so good in the past. It is more costly also. Start immediately so that more generations after us can continue to enjoy the fruits of our Mother Earth Social. More companies are embarking on Corporate social Responsibility activities to help the less needy. This is good for the companies as it encourages more of its staff to help to continue to serve the community should there be a need somewhere else. It also helps the companies to gain awareness.Governance is always a prob

This can be the deadliest mistakes as I am putting my emotions into play. Just for illustration. I choose construction companies. What can I do now?Look around my house or my workplace to see if there are construction sites. If there are, check out the names of the constructions. Then go and check on internet or S

I introduced quite a lot of people to join Tiger Brokers. The first question they ask me after signing up is always “What should I buy ah!??”I am totally surprised by such questions. It seems to me they are asking me which company I should I join.Long story short. We have too many different investment products in the market.A StocksB OptionsC FuturesD Forex E ETFF Commodities G Etc etcI think they are meaning that there are so many investment ideas. Which one should they choose? Normally I will just suggest stocks for a start. A lay person like me will use simple ways to invest. -ZOOMZero in on few areas of interest. Saving money is really important Many people all want to make investment gains. They want to make a lot of money.  Next question I asked is how much they have invested. They will say $10,000 to $20,000over the last 5 years or so. Then they will tell me no money.  What is the real reason for no money to invest? Cos they do not believe in setting aside money regularly so that we can continue to invest in the long term. I have great fun in reading this book "The Psychology of Money" there are so many ideasabout money.  Please start to save regularly. Once the money is there, your next problem will then be toinvest in which stock.
Fed has made clear very well already. If inflation rate never dropped below 3%, interest rate will remain clearly on track not to be reduced in the near term.  In my view, the earliest sign of rate cut is in September 2024. Else, it will happen next year in 2025 already.  When I invest, I look for longer term view instead of short term focus. Whether interest rates go up or down, the most important point is whether the companies I am investing in are making money. I will always stay invested for the longer term  Happy investing

Setting goals towards financial freedom Was chatting with my colleague on Friday. He told me that he wanted to achieve financial freedom. I asked him further on his plans. He did not have any. I was not surprised by his answers. Cos I have too many friends and colleagues having the same thinking. What exactly are they lacking in? I want to know better so that I can better advise them in future.Typical answers I got:1. I do not know how to start.2. I need to read and study.3. I do not have the cash4. I am afraid of losing money 5. I do not interest in investing6. Etc, etcI will then share with them on my goal settings:My end point is say $5,000 per month of passive income by 62 years old. It means $60,000 per year. Say I want to find an investment that gives me 5% dividend yie

Investing in semi conducting industries In Feb 2022, there was news of global shortage of chips. US is going to force countries not to sell to China. There was frenzy then and prices of stocks like TSMC shot up. But prices quickly went south once again. What really happened? People usually reacted strongly to good or bad news adversely. And decisions will flow quickly, usually wrong decisions. When news came out, the global economy was heading in the direction of high inflation and global recession. As such, prices may go up for a short while. Once this news had been absorbed, prices will move in the other direction faster. With the view of high inflation and global recession, think most investors are trying to keep their money for ofher purposes.

The Wheel StrategyA lot of people are talking about this strategy. I have seen my friend doing this. He is getting about US$2000 per month currently. I intend to try out soon also.Below is a website I found.Just be careful when applying. As different people use different strategies and also their risk appetites are different https://seekingalpha.com/instablog/1046492-markus-heitkoetter/5562174-trading-wheel-options-strategy-3-reasons-why-lose-money-this-strategy?source=acquisition_campaign_google&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=17125379236&utm_term=135003782766%5Edsa-1485125212058%5E%5E595907318368%5E%5E%5Eg&internal_promotion=true&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1YCC9afu-QIVwZJmAh2OJwtCEAAYASAAEgLvfvD_BwE

Practical investment portfolio Insurance agents or financial advisors typically will advise us to put allocate our funds into different baskets for long time retirement goals. How does it work in practice? My allocation will be separated into differentaccounts first. Eg) SRS to reduce my personal income tax, cash accounts for long term in case of unemployment of at least 6 months worth of funds, CPF - RA for 65 years oldonwards. Say I have $60,000 I will deposit $15,300 into SRS to reduce taxes. Amount of tax reduction follows according to the table below by IRAS. I will use this fund to purchase shares like REITs or Bankswhich can typically give me a return of between 3.5% to 5% As for the cash account, I will invest around $20,000 with the rest of $24,700 for raining days. I will p

Apple share So much has been talked about on Apple. I did a study myself since it's year end to determine whether Apple is still a worthy company to invest in.  In terms of growth, it still has a lot of growth. People have been saying that China-US relation is getting worse, but people still like Apple products. Slowdown in China due to COVID-19 restriction will gradually improved as China is opening up too.  Price to book and Price to Sales figures are good from the charts below.  I will definitely buy some shares to keep.

DCA  Why I like DCA in both up and down markets? I will purchase 1.5x to 2x my usual amount of investments during down markets to add more shares in my investment portfolio. During up markets, I will purchase 1x to 1.5x. Based on my past 1 year of DCA, I make some gains. But I will definitely keep adding in. Some ideas to make this investment better? 1. Sell half my portfolio that may have increased by 20% to 30% in the up markets. 2. Buy only quality stocks that will be still in the markets for the next 50 years. 3. Keep adding in more shares during down markets.
