Good//@PearlynCSY: Not just US Services Sector looking bad. The latest IMF report said the Ukraine crisis would increase the number of refugees fleeing to Europe, compound supply-chain bottlenecks, add pressures to inflation and deepen output losses. The biggest risk, it said, was that Russia would suddenly stop supplying oil and gas to Europe, leading to significant output losses. The report said for the whole EU, a complete stop to all Russian oil and gas imports could mean a loss of 3% of GDP in 2023.

That’s just a prelude to the main event, when US officials are expected on Wednesday to raise borrowing costs by the same amount to keep up the pressure on resurgent inflation. //@ericbqlee: [smile] //@PearlynCSY: April’s consumer price index showed an 8.3% jump, higher than the 8.1% increase expected by economists polled by Dow Jones. The price surge remained near the 40-year high pace of 8.5% seen in March. Not all analysts are convinced the data suggests inflation has reached a peak. Good//@PearlynCSY: Mainland Chinese indexes led losses as Asia-Pacific markets fell sharply on Monday following a sell-off on Wall Street on Friday. "It’s no surprise and it makes all sorts of logical sense that the market should be concerned about the Covid situation because that clearly is impacting economic activity. It’s impacting earnings potential for many parts of the market,” said Timothy Moe, chief Asia-Pacific equity strategist at Goldman Sachs. China has been struggling to contain its worst outbreak of the virus despite harsh lockdowns in its largest city, Shanghai. Over the weekend, capital Beijing, warned that the virus has been spreading undetected for about a week.
