A new year comes with new hopes Stocks to watch in 2023 would be stocks which are closer to home, stocks like staples and travel-related stocks But not to over-invest as recession has been anticipated to be coming soon, which could see US and Europe getting very heavily affected Could see a small rebound in the short term before it starts going down again Asian stocks such as Hong Kong or even SG should be relatively safer compared to stocks in US or European markets Best stocks to hold at this stage would be banks as they benefit most from the interest rate hikes If in doubt of what to invest or simply want to hold back and see how this recession fears might turn out, another great investing idea would be the 6-month Singapore Treasury Bills It provide very high short term returns, which

Why I started trading is due to boredom and to make my friend happy after I accepted the invitation to join Tiger.I initially thought the free Apple share was a joke as it felt unbelievable that Tiger would give such an expensive share just for signing up.I bought another Apple shares when it went down to 150+ and recently sold both Apple shares and made my first trade profit when it went close to 180.I bought back 1 Apple share when it went down to 171. I plan to buy when it drops and sell when it goes up.I'm thinking of playing around more before actually investing more into the market.

Q&M Dental Group (CSGCIMB Research) Tender win alleviates short-term pressure - Diagnostics arm Acumen has won a tender from the Ministry of Health (MOH) to operate a Joint Testing & Vaccination Center (JTVC), said Q&M. The tender, estimated to be worth S$3.6m in revenue, is for a period of 15 months, from October 2022 to December 2023. - Upgrade from Hold to Add, with TP unchanged at S$0.44, as current valuation of 15x forward P/E (-2 s.d. below 5-year mean) looks attractive. Acumen likely to return to profitability in FY23F Q&M estimates a revenue contribution of S$3.6m from the operation of the JTVC, which will commence on 21 Nov 22. We have yet to incorporate the potential earnings impact as the contribution is less significant compared to an estimated contribution in e

Manulife US REIT (UOB KayHian Research) Lower overall occupancy 2Q22 overall portfolio occupancy fell 1.7ppt qoq to 90.0%, driven by non-renewals and downsizing in existing properties (Figeuroa, Exchange, Penn and Capitol). Large tenants have been re-evaluating their office spaces amidst growing adoption for hybrid working arrangements. Two of MUST's top 10 tenants by gross rental income, TCW group (3.8% of GRI) and Quinn Emanuel (2.9% of GRI), have plans to vacate by end-23 and have already downsized its offices in MUST's Figeuroa asset. To backfill these vacancies, MUST has been in negotiation with prospective tenants to take over these vacated spaces, which we reckon may take time. Hotelisation of its assets To ensure its properties remain competitive and command premium rents, MUST has

I would think $Xero(XRO.AU)$ is great for investing long term.Xero provides accounting solutions online which is subscription based. This implies recurring revenue from corporate companies that will last for many years. That's because it'll be troublesome or even costly to keep training their staff to use new systems if the companies keep changing their systems such as accounting systems. This, in turn, guarantees recurring revenue in the long term once the customer signs on to use their accounting package.Furthermore, Xero boosts a lot of great functions that help cut down time and makes work a lot easier. Such as automatically linking to the bank to download daily bank statements and the system also tries to suggest matching entries and t

$Apple(AAPL)$  Market seems to have turned bullish. Hope that the worse is really over by now. I would love to see my portfolio finally turn green. It seems like permanently red shortly after I started investing in the US market. Would be good to see something different. Apple is the only US stock I'm holding now, so I'll be rooting for Apple to be bullish in this coming week. Hopefully the economy will start picking up and we won't go into a recession.

Parkway Life REIT Hospital Operations Normalising With Return Of Foreign Patients Singapore hospitals are benefitting from resumption of medical tourism. More local and foreign patients returned for treatments and operations at Parkway Life REIT (PREIT) Singapore hospitals in 1H22. Revenue intensity increased 23% in 1H22 as case-mix skewed towards acute patients. Foreign patients have returned in significant numbers after Singapore reopened its international borders in Apr 22. This was offset by a significant tapering of COVID-19 related services. In particular, sponsor IHH has ceased its arrangement with the Ministry of Health to set aside beds for COVID-19 patients. On track to commence upgrading of Singapore hospitals. Renewal term for PREIT's Singapore hospitals has commenced with rent

AEM Holdings Ltd: Fears of order deferments (CGSCIMB Report) AEM share price reacted negatively to news of US restricting exports of chips to China and media reports of possible job cuts at its major customer, Intel. Investor focus has shifted to capex cuts by Intel affecting AEM; a view we do not share. We think there is a risk of order deferment instead, over FY23-24F. Reflecting this view, we cut our FY23-24F sales forecasts and P/E multiple to factor in an earnings slowdown, leading to a lower TP of S$3.76. Negative newsflow affecting AEM share price AEM share price fell 21.5% from S$4.14 on 7 Oct 2022 to S$3.25 on 13 Oct 2022, reacting to new US restrictions on chip-related exports to China and media reports (Yahoo news, 12 October 2022) of possible job cuts at Intel (INTC US, Not Rat

I use Facebook and Messenger daily. Not really sure why Meta's fell so much. Meta and other social apps actually can't really make much money on their own. They depend heavily on advertising for revenue. With the recent economic weakness and rising inflation, I suppose a lot of changes have been made by companies to cut costs and advertising would be one of the first few.

Hard to determine which is a loser or which is a winner.  I feel that the best way to get out of this is to only choose good companies which are fundamentally strong. Most preferably market leaders in their own sector or industry. This could help to cut down the risk of investment being placed in a company that could go bankrupt and close down. Then as prices drop, do dollar cost averaging periodically and don't look back. Once, the economy is back to normal, all these investment should become very profitable but this could take years.  Patience is the key here.  In times of rising interest rates, banks should benefit the most. Can actually consider buying more bank shares.

Sembcorp Marine - Closer to becoming the largest regional yard More favourable than previous terms We think the revised terms work in slight favour of SMM. The number of shares to be issued by SMM will be reduced by 3.1bn to 36,848m (previously 39,950m) with enlarged share of 68.237m (previously 71.34m). No court approval is required for the transaction but simple majority shareholders approval by SMM and KEP. Temasek will retain its stakeof 35.5%. The simplified transaction structure's revised terms appear to have improved and reflect possible previous pushback from SMM's minority interests. SMM's proforma NTA/share improves c.5% from S$0.065 to S$0.068 based on the enlarged entity based on FY21 NTA of S$4.6bn. S$18bn order book in the bag quickens SMM's path to profitability Combined YT

To recap, Aztech reported 2Q22 revenue/net profit of S$236.6m/S$29.0m as the company executed well to meet order backlog in that quarter. Estimates: margins could be pressured Revenue: FY22-24F forecasts are unchanged as Aztech's order book remains fairly resilient. However, supply chain, logistics and manpower issues could continue to pressure margins. We cut FY22-24F gross profit margin by 0.5-1.0% pt leading to a 3.8-7.5% decrease in EPS estimates. FY23F EPS is reduced by 7.5% to S$0.124. Valuation: switch to -0.5 s.d. P/E W

First Resources - Buoyed By Strong Sales Volume And Stable Downstream Margin 3Q22 Preview FR's 3Q22 results announcement is scheduled to be released on 14 Nov 22 before market opens. Based on our current estimates, we expect FR to report a core net profit of US$55m-60m for 3Q22 (2Q22: US$54m; 3Q21: US$53m). Key items to look out for are:- a) Lower upstream margin due to lower CPO ASP and higher cost (mainly from fertilisers). In 3Q22, Indonesia's CPO domestic prices hit as low as Rp7,100/kg in Jul 22 before recovering to Rp10,000–11,000 in Sep 22. b) Stronger sales volume. We expect a strong sales volume with the high inventory carried forward from 2Q22 and also the recovery of Indonesia palm oil exports as the government is slowly relaxing the exports control. c) Better refining margins.

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding First of likely more LNG carrier orders Secured its first LNG carrier orders; YTD order wins at US$4.08bn YZJSB clinched its first order for two 175,000 cubic meters (CBM) liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. These are YZJSB's first GTT Mark III LNG carrier orders after obtaining the GTT licence on 8 Sep 2022. This win brings YZJSB's YTD order wins to US$4.08bn and orderbook to c.US$10.75bn. These LNG carriers are scheduled for delivery over 2025-2026 for a European customer. We estimate the two LNG carriers were secured at market price of US$240m each. A recent 174k CBM LNG carrier clinched by Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Samho for Jan 2026 delivery was priced at US$246.9m while Daewoo priced a set of similar vessels for MISC/Petronas at US$214.5m. I'm thinking maybe I'll want to read a novel by Philip Pullman called "His Dark Materials". I was very much fascinated by the movie The Golden Compass and then learnt that the movie was based on a book called Northern Lights which is the first book of a trilogy. The second book is called The Subtle Knife followed by The Amber Spyglass. But sadly, the movie producers did not continue filming the rest of the two sequels. So I guess I'll have to read the actual book, the trilogy. Not sure if anyone here have read these the books lol.

Definitely the electronics sector. The export restrictions to China that was recently being imposed by US will have a very negative impact on all electronics companies, such as Applied Materials, AMD, Intel and Nvidia etc. The impact is so big that even companies on the downstream will be affected negatively such as AEM, UMS, Venture and Nanofilm etc. Those restrictions will give greater pressure on the US economy as revenues go down.

Put half of the money into Singapore Savings Bonds (SSB). SSB rates have gone up to more than 3% already. If the stock market goes down further, just withdraw and buy stocks. Put the other half into high yield retail bonds that can be as high as 6% such as $Astrea7CLB620527#(V7BB.SI)$  . The combined returns would be easily more than 4.5% which I think would be a very good way to get high returns. SSBs are 10 years, but you can withdraw anytime. The Astrea VII 6% bond is into 2027. The combined returns of more than 4.5% easily beat inflation rates on the average and you can hold it for many years too, if no plans to invest the money elsewhere. This returns will also beat the 4.0% returns in CPF SA Account. Good returns

ANCHUN: Is it time to reward shareholders? Next week (25 Oct) Anchun International will mark its 12th year of listing on the Mainboard of the Singapore Exchange. Anchun can be said to be a rare survivor among S-chips, keeping its head above water where it could and sinking quite a few times, financially-speaking, in past years. In the last 10 years, Anchun has paid a dividend only once - in 2020 for its 2019 performance. The dividend was SGD0.026 a share, which was 50% of net profit. Based on my understanding of management's intentions, in other years, it would have liked to pay a dividend if it weren't for the poor business. The business has been poor in the last decade because of an oversupply in China's fertiliser industry, leading to poor profitability for many of Anchun's customers. H

$Apple(AAPL)$I feel that Apple is betting heavily on raising its prices. Especially in times like this when people are cutting down on spending, this move could be disastrous. However, it seems that Apple could be handsomely rewarded for this move. The latest model seems to be sold out in less than a week and people need to place pre-orders.Things could look good for Apple while other companies are struggling. Their Q4 results could be very surprising.
