As a result, many of the world's most valuable companies experienced steep declines in their share prices.

The economically challenging year highlighted the importance of holding stocks for the long term because your investment may just be facing temporary headwinds. For instance, many stocks have been rising since the start of 2023, which would be a missed opportunity for those who sold at the bottom last year.

So, want to get richer? Here are three stocks you can buy now and hold forever.

1. Amazon

Amazon (AMZN) had a worse year than most in 2022, with its stock falling 49.6%. The decline was mainly due to challenges in its e-commerce segment, which reported operating losses totaling $10.6 billion for the year.

Despite the losses, Amazon proved the strength of its diversified business model with its cloud platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), earning 100% of the company's $12.2 billion in operating income. AWS also reported a year-over-year revenue increase of 28.7% to $80 billion.

Amazon may have started 2023 at a disadvantage, but it remains one of the best growth stocks out there. The company's shares have risen 23% over the last five years and 609% over the last 10 years. Meanwhile, its annual revenue has increased 189% to $513.98 billion since 2018, and operating income has soared 198% to $12.2 billion over that same time frame.

In the coming years, Amazon's leading market share in e-commerce and cloud computing will likely continue to pay off. Despite recent declines in its online retail business, the market still has plenty of room for growth, making Amazon's stock an excellent investment to buy now and hold forever.

2. Apple

Apple's (AAPL) stock is always easy to recommend and makes a great addition to almost any portfolio. For instance, while the Nasdaq-100 Technology Sector index tumbled 40% in 2022, the iPhone maker proved its resilience by falling a more moderate 26.8%. Apple's stock also fared better than many of its peers amid economic challenges, as seen in the chart below.

Data by YCharts

Moreover, Apple has offered investors significant gains over the long term. Since 2018, the tech giant's stock has climbed 233%, and it's soared 837% since 2013. The impressive returns have come alongside five-year revenue growth of 130% to $394 billion, with its operating income increasing 144% to $119 billion during that time frame.

With reliable and consistent growth, it's not surprising Wall Street mogul Warren Buffett allocated 41.3% of Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio to Apple shares. In fact, Buffett saw the company's stock dip last year as a buying opportunity, boosting Berkshire's stake in the fourth quarter of 2022 by $3 billion.

Apple's stock has risen 179% since Berkshire first invested in 2016. The growth is thanks to its almost unparalleled brand loyalty and a walled garden of products that brings consumers deeper and deeper into its ecosystem with just one purchase. Apple's business has made it the world's most valuable company, with a market cap of $2.35 trillion, making it an excellent stock to hold indefinitely.

3. Advanced Micro Devices

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) was one of the hardest-hit companies last year, with its stock plummeting 55%. The business suffered from declines in the PC market, which saw worldwide shipments for components such as graphics processing units (GPUs) fall 42% year over year in the third quarter.

Despite the stock's substantial tumble, AMD shares have returned 538% in the last five years and over 3,000% in the last decade. Additionally, the company's annual revenue has increased by 264% to $23.6 billion since 2019, while operating income has risen 180% to $1.2 billion. AMD's growth has largely come from success in custom and consumer processors (CPUs), with its Ryzen series leading it to steal market share from Intel consistently. According to Statista, since Q2 2017, AMD's CPU market share has gone from 20.2% to 35.2%, while Intel's has gone from 79.7% to 62.8%.

However, the biggest reason to invest in AMD is its resilience after a challenging 2022. In Q4 2022, the slumping PC market led the company's client and gaming segments to report revenue declines of 51% and 7%, respectively, year over year. As a result, AMD pivoted to more lucrative parts of its business, with its highest-earning division becoming data centers, which posted a revenue increase of 42% to $1.7 billion. Here are three stocks you can buy now and hold forever.1. AmazonAmazon (AMZN) had a worse year than most in 2022, with its stock falling 49.6%. The decline was mainly due to challenges in its e-commerce segment, which reported operating losses totaling $10.6 billion for the year.Despite the losses, Amazon proved the strength of its diversified business model with its cloud platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), earning 100% of the company's $12.2 billion in operating income. AWS also reported a year-over-year revenue increase of 28.7% to $80 billion.Amazon may have started 2023 at a disadvantage, but it remains one of the best growth stocks out there. Despite recent declines in its online retail business, the market still has plenty of room for growth, making Amazon's stock an excellent investment to buy now and hold forever.2. AppleApple's (AAPL) stock is always easy to recommend and makes a great addition to almost any portfolio. For instance, while the Nasdaq-100 Technology Sector index tumbled 40% in 2022, the iPhone maker proved its resilience by falling a more moderate 26.8%. Apple's stock also fared better than many of its peers amid economic challenges, as seen in the chart below.Data by YChartsMoreover, Apple has offered investors significant gains over the long term. In fact, Buffett saw the company's stock dip last year as a buying opportunity, boosting Berkshire's stake in the fourth quarter of 2022 by $3 billion.Apple's stock has risen 179% since Berkshire first invested in 2016. The growth is thanks to its almost unparalleled brand loyalty and a walled garden of products that brings consumers deeper and deeper into its ecosystem with just one purchase. Apple's business has made it the world's most valuable company, with a market cap of $2.35 trillion, making it an excellent stock to hold indefinitely.3. Advanced Micro DevicesAdvanced Micro Devices (AMD) was one of the hardest-hit companies last year, with its stock plummeting 55%. The business suffered from declines in the PC market, which saw worldwide shipments for components such as graphics processing units (GPUs) fall 42% year over year in the third quarter.Despite the stock's substantial tumble, AMD shares have returned 538% in the last five years and over 3,000% in the last decade. According to Statista, since Q2 2017, AMD's CPU market share has gone from 20.2% to 35.2%, while Intel's has gone from 79.7% to 62.8%.However, the biggest reason to invest in AMD is its resilience after a challenging 2022. Meanwhile, its embedded segment saw revenue grow over 1,800% to $1.4 billion. The redirection in its business meant the company retained growth despite market headwinds, with revenue rising 43.6% to $23.6 billion in its fiscal 2022.AMD has solid leadership, with CEO Lisa Su taking the company from the brink of bankruptcy prior to 2017 to a dominating position in tech. AMD's performance under pressure and immense long-term growth makes its stock one to buy and hold forever.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":215,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9956857325,"gmtCreate":1673970155967,"gmtModify":1676538910704,"author":{"id":"4127625745778862","authorId":"4127625745778862","name":"mavis88","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/02b482b2c40d0e87999261caefcc5e95","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4127625745778862","authorIdStr":"4127625745778862"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Thanks for sharing ","listText":"Thanks for sharing ","text":"Thanks for sharing","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9956857325","repostId":"2304351004","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2304351004","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1674042636,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2304351004?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2023-01-18 19:50","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Better Buy: Nvidia vs. Taiwan Semiconductor Stock","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2304351004","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These two chip giants are down big, but could be worth buying now.","content":"

KEY POINTS

Nvidia isn't just about gaming anymore.

Taiwan Semi is the safest bet in the chip industry.

Both stocks could be worth buying now.

Semiconductor companies are cyclical and heavily influenced by macroeconomic factors. The biggest boost had come from iPhone maker Apple Inc after Goldman Sachs initiated coverage with a \"buy\" rating. But equities gave up earlier gains as yields on U.S. 10-year Treasury notes and the 2-year Treasuries yield came back from early declines after data showed new orders for U.S.-manufactured goods fell less than expected in January.Rising bond yields tend to weigh on equity valuations, particularly those of growth and technology stocks, as higher rates reduce the value of future cash flows.\"The market is in a holding pattern because this week will be key to shedding light on what's going on with the U.S. economy,\" said Irene Tunkel, chief U.S. equity strategist for BCA Research in New York, who plans to keep a close watch on February's U.S. non-farm payrolls report, due out Friday.\"People are worried about the jobs number and the economic data because they're worried about what the Fed will do. Ultimately all roads lead to the Fed.\"And with potential Fed rate hikes their key concern, Monday's data had already dampened investor enthusiasm, said Shawn Cruz, head trading strategist at TD Ameritrade in Chicago.\"The market pullback was because there is still a lot of work to do on inflation,\" said Cruz. \"We're not seeing the type of demand slowdown we need to see. The whole point of the Fed hiking rates is to slow down the economy.\"The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 40.47 points, or 0.12%, to 33,431.44; the S&P 500 gained 2.78 points, or 0.07%, at 4,048.42; and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 13.27 points, or 0.11%, to 11,675.74.Among the S&P's 11 major industry sectors, six ended the day higher. The commodity-linked materials sector was the biggest decliner, falling 1.7%, after China set a lower-than-expected target for economic growth this year at around 5%.The technology sector was the top gainer, with the biggest lift from Apple, which closed up 1.9%. Other strong boosts came from Microsoft Corp, which added 0.6%, and Google parent Alphabet Inc, which rose 1.6%.The three main U.S. stock indexes had rallied on Friday and notched weekly gains after comments from Fed policymakers calmed jitters around aggressive rate hikes. But San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank President Mary Daly said on Saturday that if inflation and labor market data continue to come in hotter than expected, interest rates would need to go higher and stay there longer than Fed policymakers had projected in December.Investors will look for clues about the Fed's future rate hiking path when Powell testifies before Congress on Tuesday and Wednesday. Since Powell last spoke strong economic data and hotter than expected inflation have raised concerns the Fed will raise rates higher than expected or keep them higher for longer.Traders expect at least three more 25-basis-point hikes this year and see interest rates peaking at 5.44% by September from 4.67% now.Shares of cryptocurrency-related companies were volatile after Silvergate Capital Corp pulled the plug on its crypto payments network and raised doubts about the company's ability to stay in business. pleased to know that REITs continue to offer a dependable source of passive income that they can rely on.

Despite the twin challenges of surging inflation and soaring interest rates, well-managed REITs with quality assets can hold their own and continue to churn out regular distributions.

Of course, the trick is to stick with REITs that are supported by strong sponsors and resilient tenants.

With the global economy teetering on the brink of a recession, investors should seek safety in well-known names with long track records.

The good news is that with interest rates poised to rise further, REITs are also seeing their distribution yields become more attractive.

Here are four Singapore REITs that pay out a distribution yield of 6% or higher.

Mapletree Industrial Trust (SGX: ME8U)

Mapletree Industrial Trust, or MIT, owns a portfolio of 85 properties in Singapore and 56 in the US comprising light industrial properties, business parks, and data centres.

The total assets under management (AUM) stood at S$8.8 billion as of 31 December 2022.

For the third quarter of MIT’s fiscal 2023 (3Q FY2023), gross revenue inched up 5% year on year to S$170.4 million.

Net property income (NPI) edged up 4.9% year on year to S$128.8 million but distribution per year declined by 2.9% year on year to S$0.0339.

The higher revenue and NPI were driven by contributions from new leases within the Singapore portfolio, but DPU fell because of higher operating and borrowing costs.

MIT’s trailing 12-month DPU came in at S$0.1373, giving its units a trailing distribution yield of 6%.

The industrial REIT maintained a gearing of 37.2% with close to three-quarters of its loans on fixed rates.

The redevelopment at the Kolam Ayer cluster is partially complete, with one of the blocks (165 Kallang Way) receiving its temporary occupation permit in November last year.

Starhill Global REIT (SGX: P40U)

Starhill Global REIT, or SGREIT, owns 10 retail cum office properties in Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, and China.

The total value of its portfolio stood at S$2.9 billion as of 31 December 2022.

SGREIT reported a decent financial result for its fiscal 2023’s first half (1H FY2023).

Gross revenue rose 4.1% year on year to S$94.7 million while NPI improved by 6.7% year on year to S$74.3 million.

DPU inched up 2.2% year on year to S$0.0182.

The REIT’s annualised DPU stood at S$0.0364, giving its units a forward distribution yield of 6.8%

SGREIT’s portfolio enjoyed a high occupancy of 97.1% with a long weighted average lease expiry (WALE) of 6.8 years by net lettable area (NLA).

Gearing stood at 36.3% with 84% of its borrowings hedged to fixed rates.

Lendlease Global Commercial REIT (SGX: JYEU)

Lendlease Global Commercial REIT, or LREIT, owns a portfolio comprising Jem and 313 Somerset in Singapore and Sky Complex in Milan, Italy.

These properties had a value of S$3.6 billion as of 30 June 2022.

LREIT reported a 159.6% year on investors will be pleased to know that REITs continue to offer a dependable source of passive income that they can rely on.Despite the twin challenges of surging inflation and soaring interest rates, well-managed REITs with quality assets can hold their own and continue to churn out regular distributions.Of course, the trick is to stick with REITs that are supported by strong sponsors and resilient tenants. With the global economy teetering on the brink of a recession, investors should seek safety in well-known names with long track records. The good news is that with interest rates poised to rise further, REITs are also seeing their distribution yields become more attractive. Here are four Singapore REITs that pay out a distribution yield of 6% or higher.Mapletree Industrial Trust (SGX: ME8U)Mapletree Industrial Trust, or MIT, owns a portfolio of 85 properties in Singapore and 56 in the US comprising light industrial properties, business parks, and data centres. The total assets under management (AUM) stood at S$8.8 billion as of 31 December 2022.For the third quarter of MIT’s fiscal 2023 (3Q FY2023), gross revenue inched up 5% year on year to S$170.4 million.Net property income (NPI) edged up 4.9% year on year to S$128.8 million but distribution per year declined by 2.9% year on year to S$0.0339.The higher revenue and NPI were driven by contributions from new leases within the Singapore portfolio, but DPU fell because of higher operating and borrowing costs.MIT’s trailing 12-month DPU came in at S$0.1373, giving its units a trailing distribution yield of 6%.The industrial REIT maintained a gearing of 37.2% with close to three-quarters of its loans on fixed rates. The redevelopment at the Kolam Ayer cluster is partially complete, with one of the blocks (165 Kallang Way) receiving its temporary occupation permit in November last year.Starhill Global REIT (SGX: P40U)Starhill Global REIT, or SGREIT, owns 10 retail cum office properties in Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, and China. The total value of its portfolio stood at S$2.9 billion as of 31 December 2022.SGREIT reported a decent financial result for its fiscal 2023’s first half (1H FY2023).Gross revenue rose 4.1% year on year to S$94.7 million while NPI improved by 6.7% year on year to S$74.3 million.DPU inched up 2.2% year on year to S$0.0182.The REIT’s annualised DPU stood at S$0.0364, giving its units a forward distribution yield of 6.8%SGREIT’s portfolio enjoyed a high occupancy of 97.1% with a long weighted average lease expiry (WALE) of 6.8 years by net lettable area (NLA).Gearing stood at 36.3% with 84% of its borrowings hedged to fixed rates.Lendlease Global Commercial REIT (SGX: JYEU)Lendlease Global Commercial REIT, or LREIT, owns a portfolio comprising Jem and 313 Somerset in Singapore and Sky Complex in Milan, Italy. These properties had a value of S$3.6 billion as of 30 June 2022.LREIT reported a 159.6% year on year jump in gross revenue to S$101.7 million for 1H FY2023 with the addition of Jem into its portfolio.NPI shot up 157.8% year on year to S$76.4 million.DPU increased by 2.1% year on year to S$0.0245, with annualised DPU coming in at S$0.049.LREIT’s units provide a forward distribution yield of 7.4%.The REIT’s gearing ratio stood at 39.2% with a low weighted average cost of debt of 2.35%.The good news is that LREIT’s portfolio enjoyed near full occupancy at 99.8% as of 31 December 2022.Its WALE by NLA was also high at 8.3 years.Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust (SGX: BUOU)Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust, or FLCT, owns a portfolio of 105 industrial and commercial properties across Australia, Germany, Singapore, the UK and the Netherlands. The REIT’s AUM stood at S$6.7 billion as of 31 December 2022.For its fiscal 2022 (FY2022) ending 30 September 2022, FLCT saw revenue dip by 4.1% year on year to S$450.2 million.Adjusted NPI fell by 3.7% year on year to S$342.1 million while DPU slid by 0.8% year on year to S$0.0762.Units of FLCT provide a trailing distribution yield of 6.3%.FLCT reported a strong set of operating metrics for its fiscal 2023’s first quarter (1Q FY2023).Rental reversion hit positive 11% while the occupancy rate and WALE stood healthy at 95.9% and 4.6 years, respectively.Aggregate leverage stood at just 27.9% as of 31 December 2022 with a low cost of borrowings of 1.7%.78.7% of the REIT’s borrowings were on fixed
