5. Opening Summary
The Hang Seng Index opened modestly higher, hovering just below the 26,000 mark as investors weighed overnight Wall Street strength against lingering global growth concerns. A 0.15% uptick for the benchmark and a 0.33% improvement for the Hang Seng Tech Index signalled a tentative risk-on mood, while the HSCEI advanced 0.13%.
Large technology counters were split. Hardware-oriented names such as Lenovo (+3.53%) and Alibaba (+2.07%) outperformed, aided by continued interest in AI infrastructure build-outs and upbeat PC shipment data. Tencent gained 1.19% to approach HK$500, but food-delivery major Meituan slipped 1.13% amid profit-taking. NetEase (-0.97%) and Bilibili (-0.47%) also softened.
The most eye-catching individual mover was Z.AI, jumping 3.96% to HK$1,050 on sustained AI enthusiasm, while MINIMAX (+3.39%) and ASMPT (+3.16%) added to hardware strength. Conversely, optical component maker ZJ Innolight plunged nearly 15%, dragging peer YOFC down over 5% as traders rotated out of the sector.
Sector rotation favoured AI hardware, PC makers and semiconductor foundries, while optical components, telecom gear and selected online services lagged. No major IPO priced this morning, keeping primary-market activity quiet. Investors now look to earnings guidance from heavyweight tech firms later this week for direction.
