Shares of Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng Inc. skyrocketed nearly 20% on Wednesday, following the company's launch of its first AI-powered P7+ sedan with an attractive starting price tag of 186,800 yuan ($26,134).
The P7+ unveiling, which came a day after Xpeng showcased its new extended-range hybrid technology, is seen as the company's pivot to more cost-competitive products beyond pure electric vehicles. Analysts believe this strategic shift could significantly boost Xpeng's sales by tapping into broader consumer demand.
Nomura analysts noted that Xpeng is at the forefront of AI-related auto technologies like smart driving and robotics, positioning the company to deliver robust growth fueled by innovative offerings like the P7+. They added that if the sedan's pricing comes in around 185,000 yuan or lower, Xpeng could be poised for "a strong wave of demand."
