AMD and Cisco Launch AI Compute Infrastructure in Saudi Arabia with HUMAIN, Targeting 1GW Capacity by 2030

Saudi Arabia's AI compute infrastructure buildout has reached a new milestone.

On August 31, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Cisco, and Saudi AI firm HUMAIN announced that AI infrastructure powered by AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs has officially entered production in Saudi Arabia, with initial compute capacity now being offered to customers locally and across the broader region.

The deployment is driven by AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs, AMD EPYC CPUs, and Cisco's Silicon One networking infrastructure, with GPU high-speed interconnect enabled through the Cisco N9000 series platform and 800G optical technology, creating a network architecture optimized for AI workloads.

HUMAIN will deliver compute capacity to customers via a "GPU-as-a-Service" (GPUaaS) model, covering the full AI workflow from model training to inference. HUMAIN is backed by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and is positioned as a provider of full-stack AI solutions.

Where the rollout stands and what comes next

Initial compute capacity is now live, with the next phase of expansion slated for 2027. That phase will introduce AMD's next-generation Instinct MI400 series GPUs, paired again with AMD EPYC CPUs, the ROCm software platform, and Cisco networking infrastructure, with new capacity expected to come online in the second half of 2027.

The expansion is sized at up to 250 megawatts, marking a key step toward the trio's long-term compute ambitions. Driven by customer demand, the three companies are maintaining their previously announced overall plan to deploy up to 1 gigawatt (GW) of AI infrastructure by 2030, positioning it as one of the largest open AI compute platforms in Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle East.

AMD deepens Middle East push, open ecosystem as a differentiator

A defining feature of this project is its emphasis on an "open" AI infrastructure approach. The platform incorporates AMD's ROCm open-source software ecosystem, offering customers a compute alternative distinct from single, closed GPU ecosystems.

For Advanced Micro Devices, the Saudi project represents a large-scale commercial deployment of its Instinct series AI accelerators in the Middle East, with potential to expand its share of the AI data center market. For Cisco, the project provides a new commercial case for its Silicon One networking platform entering hyperscale AI compute clusters.

As Saudi Arabia continues to ramp up AI infrastructure investment, AMD and Cisco are leveraging HUMAIN's platform to accelerate the delivery of fully integrated AI compute infrastructure—combining GPUs, CPUs, networking, and software—into the Middle East market.
