Chevron Charts New Course in Venezuela to Unlock Massive Oil Reserves

Deep News01-05

As the sole major U.S. company operating in Venezuela, Chevron finds itself in an advantageous position to capitalize on the commitment made by U.S. President Trump last Saturday to revitalize the Latin American nation's oil industry.

Following the U.S. apprehension of Venezuela's Nicolás Maduro, Chevron is poised to navigate a new path, aiming to maintain its foothold in some of the world's most resource-rich oil fields. For years, the oil giant has managed the country's political and economic turbulence, while its competitors have either withdrawn or been expelled by Venezuelan leadership.

Trump stated at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, "We are going to let our great U.S. oil companies, the biggest in the world, go into Venezuela, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly damaged infrastructure, the oil infrastructure, and start making money for the country."

Chevron said in a statement last Saturday that the company remains focused on the safety of its employees and the integrity of its assets in Venezuela.

The opportunity is immense. The Venezuelan government claims its proven oil reserves exceed 300 billion barrels, which, if accurate, would rank it first globally. Analysts suggest that aside from Chevron, other major oil firms interested in returning to Venezuela will almost certainly take time to assess the situation.
