According to a notice published on the official website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on January 6, the ministry places great importance on the protection of user rights. In accordance with laws and regulations such as the Personal Information Protection Law, the Cybersecurity Law, the Telecommunications Regulations, and the Provisions on the Protection of Personal Information of Telecommunication and Internet Users, the MIIT continuously works to rectify violations of user rights by apps. Recently, the ministry organized a spot check conducted by a third-party testing agency, which identified 22 apps and SDKs that were found to be infringing upon user rights; these are now publicly disclosed.
Among the apps, "Mei Liao" (妹聊), sourced from the Honor App Market, was found to involve the excessive collection of personal information, as well as the improper collection and use of personal data. The app "Dang Jia" (当家), available on the Samsung App Store, failed to clearly indicate the scope of personal information collection and was involved in the improper collection of personal information. "Qi Hua Yun Xiang" (祈花云享), found on the App Store, was implicated in the unauthorized collection of personal information. Apps such as "Xian Lai Xiao Yi Xiao" (闲来消一消) and "Le Qu Dian Dian" (乐趣点点), sourced from KUAISHOU-W, were also involved in the improper collection of personal information.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that the aforementioned apps and SDKs must carry out rectifications in accordance with relevant regulations. For those that fail to implement the necessary corrections adequately, the ministry will initiate appropriate disciplinary actions in accordance with the law.
