Deep News2025-12-29
New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will cease sales of the MetroCard on December 31, fully launching the "tap-and-go" OMNY system citywide; reloadable cards will be available for purchase at retailers including CVS Health (CVS) and Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA).
December 31, 2025, marks the final deadline for purchasing or refilling a MetroCard, as the entire transit system completes its full transition to the OMNY contactless payment platform. Passengers can simply tap a credit card, mobile phone, or other smart device to pay the fare, offering a level of convenience akin to everyday retail transactions.
